In another celebration of women, the Brewery will be hosting Night of the She-Wolf on Saturday night from 6pm, featuring female-fronted bands and singer-songwriters including Nicole Brophy Music, Moreton, Demi Casha, Toms Daughter, Milli Lou May and Tilka Fosmale, with Wolf Man from Howl & Moon Records curating a dedicated female vinyl playlist between sets. Better yet, entry is free, with $5 tinnies all night! On Sunday, Byron’s Locura will see a DJ legend hit the decks: Norman Jay MBE, co-founder of Good Times Sound System and London dance music station KISS FM. Following the release of his ‘Mister Good Times’ compilation in 2017, Jay is currently taking his Good Times party to selected venues around the world. Special guests kick off the night from 5pm (tickets $32.40; residentadvisor.net).

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
A SATURN/NEPTUNE SEXTILE IS BUILDING
(exact on Friday). It may bring necessary grounding and structure to a creative dream, and help to pull it into reality through solid commitment and hard work. A Mars/Pluto square (exact on Saturday) adds stamina if you are on the right track, but can be very irritating if you find that you are not. During the weekend Venus, the goddess of love and appreciation, forms a fire trine to Uranus and desires something new, exciting and different. At the same time she is inclined to feel compassionate and allow healing of a strained relationship, including the relationship to the self! Monday is also a great day to talk things over and have a new start. A Mercury/Jupiter sextile supports open and free conversations about difficult issues. On the same day Venus moves into serious, realistic and responsible Capricorn where she resides for the whole month of February. Tuesday’s New Moon in Aquarius fits very well into the vibe of the last few days and encourages free thought and truth spoken. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The 8 of Cups symbolises emotional exhaustion. Maybe you have been overextending yourself and now you feel like you have nothing more to give. It is important to honour your feelings; take time out to recharge your batteries and contemplate what is important to you.
When the Chariot Tarot card appears, a new decisiveness and determination is born. The changes you are about to implement create a new reality that assists your personal growth and evolution. You find security in times of transition by applying discipline, commitment and willpower to achieve your goals.
i GEMINI
The 3 of Disks indicates a week of practical and concentrated work, which you don’t mind. Maybe you can even get excited about it, because your objective is dear to your heart and you are prepared to invest all your energy in it. Teamwork could also prove very fruitful.
j CANCER
Peace of mind is the issue of the 2 of Swords. It may be achieved by making an informed decision, but it is also possible that your intuition tells you that the time is not ripe for it. If you are refusing to voice your verdict because you don’t want to rock someone’s boat, that’s a different matter and should be addressed.

With the Knight of Wands drawn you totally tap into the fiery energy of this week’s astro flavour, and you are ready to take a passionate leap of faith into uncharted territory. Your self-assured attitude leaves no room for doubt and your success is guaranteed because of it.
c SAGITTARIUS
With the Knight of Swords drawn you are the mover and shaker of this week. Your intellect is sharp and your passion for your mission so strong that nothing else matters much to you. However, rushing too fast and cutting corners might lead to complications or a change of mind later!
The Knight of Disks symbolises an overly subservient attitude. Often he is overworked, underpaid and not sufficiently recognised for his efforts. If that sounds familiar, you may want to investigate when, where and how you adopted the belief that you have to settle for small gains. Find a way to tap more into your unconditional worthiness.
d CAPRICORN
a LIBRA
In the light of the Moon Tarot card things look different. There are mysterious glows that are attractive and shadows that are elusive. You might be easily side-tracked or confused by appearances and might lose your footing more than once this week. Take some time out for soul-search or a pleasurable creative project….
The Ace of Swords heralds a new era of clarity and direction. Any confusion or doubt is dissolved by new awareness, insight and intuitive knowing. You might have a peak-experience or an aha-moment that gives you mental strength for a long time. This is a good time to implement original and creative ideas.
b SCORPIO
The Priestess Tarot card indicates an inward time. You may feel like withdrawing from involvement for a while, allowing time to commune with nature and your innermost feelings. As you listen closely to your inner dialogue and soften your tension, you nourish your soul.
The 3 of Cups emphasises feelings and connection in the spirit of cooperation and co-creation. This is a great week for collaborations and the blessings that can come if two or more people leave their egos behind and embark on a project that could not exist in isolation.
e AQUARIUS
f PISCES
The 10 of Cups promises serenity, delight and good times with friends, family and children. How marvellous is this wonderful, albeit fleeting, experience of peace, harmony and wholeness! Giving and receiving flow easily, and there are good vibes everywhere when you share from your heart.

DEAR KEENWA, I'm a single mum with a live-in lover. I don't like the term boyfriend as I don't believe in monogamy, or the patriarchal construct of a relationship. Centrelink want to know if I'm in a relationship, so they can cut my payment. He doesn't pay for my children at all, or even take the damn rubbish out. I don't get it? - Single White Female
DEAR SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, For most peeps outside of the Byron bubble including the man upstairs, women are property. According to them, when you have a boyfriend, you become his problem. Imagine if they actually came up with programs that help women transition from unpaid mother work to the work force outside the home (don't worry, they'll let you keep your home job too!) Oh, wait there is one, called Parents Next. A program that forces tired, under-supported mums to go the library for StoryTime, and report her attendance to her Cenno parole officer.

I'm taking my boyfriend home to Melbourne for the first time for my bestie's wedding. Thing is, he has the worst white-boy dance moves I've ever seen. Literally. I love him dearly but I'm a bit nervous for what's about to go down on the d-floor. How do I politely encourage him to tone it down? - Blushing Bridesmaid

Are you sure about that 'dear' love? It sounds like you love parts of him. What else are you getting him to tone down? We nitpick and put down and compare our men to our sisters, emancipating them in the process, then complain they're not manly enough. The poor buggers can't win. I had the honour of sitting in a men's circle on the weekend, and I obviously can't break the cock code, but I was surprised to learn something. Men rule. There's a book called The Queens Code. Read it sis, and stop turning princes into frogs. If he's skipping a weekend wave to wear shoes and chat with your boring city mates, he sounds like a keeper.

Life throws you curveballs. You will feel scared or stressed or sad at some point. That’s inevitable. Life is inherently stormy. Mistakes will be made. Tires will go flat. Jobs will be lost. Relationships will dissolve. Loved ones will be lost. Unexpected bills will pop up. Shit happens. But how you relate to the shit is up to you. And the way you relate to these experiences is a reflection of your resilience and inner stability. Resilience and stability don’t mean being stoic and emotionless. Stability arises out of the understanding that challenging circumstances are just storms passing through - changeable, temporary. Resilience is the ability to rebound. To be so internally buoyant that you bounce back, no matter how hard the hits. It’s about having the strength and steadiness to dance with the weather of your life. So ask yourself...how steady is your ship when storms come? If you tend to capsize when life gets stormy, that’s okay. The good news is you can steady yourself. You can cultivate stability and resiliency. And meditation is the best way I know to do that. Meditation bolsters our reserves of resiliency and turns down the dial on reactivity by training us in the art of staying. Sitting still and noticing the changing landscape of emotions and thoughts in meditation helps us to practice staying (rather than avoiding or resisting) and witnessing (without judgement or attachment). Meditation also schools us in non-attachment which makes responding wisely to challenging emotions or experiences a heck of a lot easier. Plus, when we commit to meditating regularly, we build resilience. As Zen priest Steve Hagen put it, “if you can get past resistance to meditation, nothing else in life will be an obstacle.” P.S. If you’re ready to start meditating, I’d love to give you hand. Details are below!

This week's review
TITLE: One Day In December AUTHOR: Josie Silver NUMBER OF PAGES: 416 EST. READ TIME: 8 hours and 27 minutes PRICE: $14.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Two people find themselves drawn
to one another one day in December at a busstop in London. But before Laurie can hop off the bus to talk to her love at first sight the bus drives away, leaving both wondering whether they’d ever meet again. In a city full of millions of people their paths will cross again - but in a way they least expect. Does love at first sight exist? Will they end up together? Only time will tell.
WHO IT'S FOR: Fans of Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary and The Holiday.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: One Day in December
is a fun read. There’s a time and place for cheesy romantic comedies and somehow it’s all the more magical set during Christmas. My bet is this book will be made into a classic Christmas film in the coming years. This book spans across an extended period of time. It’s heartfelt, funny and sprinkled with British sensibilities. If you’re up for a lighthearted page turner this is for you.
NOTABLE QUOTE: “That’s the thing about flowers, isn’t
it? They’re lush and extravagant and demand your attention, and you think they’re the most exquisite thing, but then in the shortest time they’re not very lovely at all. They wilt and they turn the water brown, and soon you can’t hold on to them any longer.”

The Grigoryan Brothers and Wolfgang Muthspiel.
SLAVA AND LEONARD, WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO PLAY WITH KD LANG? It was an incredible experience on so many
levels. k.d. is such a natural and lovely person – no airs and graces and totally professional. Also welcoming were her band and crew – it really felt like we were part of a family. When you spend so much time on the road together this is such an important part of making a tour enjoyable.
WOLFGANG, HOW DID YOUR INTEREST IN BECOMING A JAZZ GUITARIST BEGIN? I was improvising music together with my brother Christian at an early age, before we had any idea of jazz. when we found out that improvisation was the core of jazz music, we became obsessed with it.
HOW DID YOU ALL COME TOGETHER MUSICALLY? Back in
2005 Slava toured Australia in a trio with Wolfgang and the iconic U.S. guitarist/composer Ralph Towner called MGT. This forthcoming tour Ralph had to cancel due to ill health and the natural progression was to have Len step in.
YOUR UPCOMING PERFORMANCE IN BYRON EXPLORES THE DIVERSITY OF THE GUITAR, WHICH TYPE OF GUITAR DO YOU THINK WILL BLOW PEOPLE AWAY THE MOST?
While we’ll be playing an array of guitars, they are only the tools we use. We hope that audiences will connect with the music. We’ll be playing a bunch of things from previous MGT recordings as well as new compositions written specifically for this tour.
WHAT DOES PERFORMING MEAN TO YOU? Grigoryan
Brothers: Playing music is just ‘home’ for us - full stop. To be able to do it for a living, travel and have people appreciate what we do is the icing on the cake. Wolfgang Muthspiel: A chance to enter a musical universe. For event details head over to byroncentre.com.au/whats-on/
