is still a few months away from opening, but Byron still knows how to host a great film event. First up this week, Flickerfest Director Bronwyn Kidd will be hosting a free short film masterclass at SAE Byron from 4-6pm on Friday touching on everything from what the big Aussie festivals are looking for to what you need to know to make your film market-ready. Next Tuesday night, there are two epic film events to choose from in the Bay. First up, Pighouse Flicks will be screening the Byron premiere of The Map to Paradise, an adventurefilled doco about the birth of the global movement to protect the ocean. Welcome cocktails will be served by Brookie’s Gin from 5pm, with the film rolling from 6pm, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers from 7:40pm. Tickets are $23.50 via tickettailor.com. At 7:30pm, Byron Surf Flix will present The Heart & The Sea at Byron Theatre ($15; byroncentre.com.au). The third film from independent Aussie filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the heartfelt doco explores the joy that lies at the very centre of a surfing life: family, friends and a shared intimacy with the sea. P.S. The bar will be open from 6pm!

DEAR KEENWA, I've been experiencing an array of aches and pains, and immune dysfunction over the past few months. Neither my Naturopath, Astrologer, Kinesiologist, Acupuncturist, Breathwork Therapist, nor Past Life Healer have answers. I understand I am way more enlightened than the people around me, and am probably going through this to help evolve others (which I don't mind) but tell me, does this sound like a classic case of ascension flu? - Pain in the AuraÂ
DEAR PAIN IN THE AURA, I have to know one more thing, if you can just close your eyes and check in with your spirit guides for a second. Ask them honestly, if you are experiencing any electrical and mechanical malfunctions by any chance? A trick question I know, as mercury is already in the throes of its retrograde shadow period, but when you are around, do light bulbs flicker, computers lock up, or the radio goes haywire?
DEAR KEENWA, Re: Married At First Sight T.V. show, I know we're not supposed to watch television if we live in the Shire, but I want in. Even though only one of the twelve couples aren't killing each other, it is legit neuroscience matchmaking run by professionals. There is a shrink on hand to iron out all your lover's quarrels, imagine! Any tips on my application? - Love Junkie
DEAR LOVE JUNKIE, Do you also like watching train wrecks? That's how I felt when I dipped into one episodes as research, for your benefit. Although watching stranger's unhealthy attachment patterns play out does have its allure, I am surprised that peeps are actually still genuinely looking for love outside of themselves. You are right, the producers are very talented at matching couples perfectly to make just enough hyper-arousal of our viewer brain chemistry to have our drama needs satiated, yet enough happily ever after, not to quit the show entirely.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THURSDAY MIGHT BE AN OPPORTUNE
or a tricky day; it all depends on how disciplined, patient and realistic you can be. Since we are in the middle of a retrograde Mercury in Pisces sojourn, any messages or ideas need to stand the test of time to prove their viability. Resist the urge to make big decisions because there are more facts and fiction to be revealed in the near future; only by midApril can you be sure you’re on the right track. Now is the time to re-evaluate and reassess any options patiently and thoroughly. The combination of the extremely creative and visionary Pisces energy (Sun, Mercury and Neptune), with the very practical and persistent Taurean Mars, in trine to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, grants the discipline and x-ray vision necessary to probe deeply into any shortcomings or problems you encounter. From Friday to Monday retro Mercury is very busy; he unites with the Sun, squares Jupiter and sextiles Pluto, as well as Mars. Ideas or inventions that pop up need to be scrutinised cautiously before they are implemented, there could be plenty of illusion and confusion. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The 10 of Cups is drawn for the second consecutive time! Your overflowing benevolent energy and enthusiasm may touch many people this week. Don’t ask if you are doing enough, you are being enough! You naturally bless others with the radiance of your being and invite them to feel their own delight, peace and serenity.
h TAURUS
With the 7 of Swords drawn and Mars very prominent in your sign this week, you may have to be strategic in your thinking and planning, but extremely flexible in your response to any perceived obstacles. Be aware of selfsabotage and cutting corners; there are no shortcuts available right now.
i GEMINI
The 4 of Cups asks you to pause, use some time for inward reflection and apply your discernment wisely, before you embark on a new project or accept an alluring offer that promises to give you what you want. Holding off decisions might be your best option, unless you are willing to change course later.
j CANCER
The Temperance Tarot card encourages you to hold on to your visions and dreams. Like a medieval alchemist you might have to find ways to mix, blend and fuse seeming contradictions, polarities and paradoxes in your life. What is emerging is your new, individual life-path as an art form in itself.

d CAPRICORN
The 5 of Disks pictures a time of doubt and insecurity. Maybe you are less productive than you expect, or get bogged down in negative ‘what-if’ scenarios that never turn into reality. Try to stay in the moment and find reassurance in the things that are working out right now.
The Magician Tarot card assists you to tap into your creative power. You might be able to create magical results or even miracles. All you have to do is to stay focussed and apply all your skills, tools and resources in the most potent way. Don’t overthink, just concentrate on the task and go for it, while keeping your judgemental mind at bay.
a LIBRA
In the light of the Moon Tarot card things look different; realities shift and morph in strange ways. Ideas conceived now might not be realistic but rather alluring. This is not the time to make big decisions but if you can, choose to work on something creative and soulsoothing. Time alone might make you happy.
b SCORPIO
The 9 of Swords indicates a tendency to be hard on yourself with severe selfjudgement. It might stem from early childhood conditioning, a time when your parents thought they had to be tough with you to make you a better person. This is the time to release yourself from these old patterns. Be kind, inspiring and motivating towards yourself and things work out easier…
The Strength Tarot card is drawn for the second consecutive time! You are on a roll and are almost unstoppable. Your unshakable optimism, combined with much passion and courage makes things happen, and you are a true inspiration for colleagues, friends and family.
The 9 of Cups is often called the wish-card. If it grants you one big wish this week, what would it be? Would it be about health, finances, work or about creativity, relationships or love? Getting clear about your wants, needs and intentions is the first step towards fulfilment.
e AQUARIUS
The Hanged Man Tarot card appears when you feel a little stuck, inflexible and maybe tired of your self-imposed limitations, fixed perspectives or unresolved ‘hang-ups’ that run your life. Take the time to investigate the root causes of your discontent and you’ll find a refreshing, new perspective.
f PISCES
With the World Tarot card drawn and so much Piscean flavour in the astro mix, your visionary and creative energy might feel like a tsunami that sweeps you away and beyond what you know. A new sense of freedom and integrity emerges and gives birth to new expressions or even a new life-plan.

TITLE: You Me Everything AUTHOR: Catherine Isaac NUMBER OF PAGES: 368 EST. READ TIME: 5 hours and 33 minutes PRICE: $23.75 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Jess is a single mum to her ten-year-
old boy William. Life is busy and being a young mum has been hard. Although she’d like to think she has things under control, a medical diagnosis throws their lives off course when Jess’s mum falls ill. Her dying wish is for Jess to reconnect with William’s father - who now lives in the French countryside and has a new girlfriend on his arm every season. Jess and William spend the summer in France for a summer vacation they’ll never forget.

this one comes with a twist!
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The dialogue in this book is
fresh and well written. The characters feel real and relatable It has a lot of heart and a bit more depth to it than first meets the eye. Think Bridget Jones’ Diary meets your quintessential British family drama. One of the things I loved about You Me Everything was Isaac’s descriptions of summertime. She really took you there and made you feel like you too could be sipping on rose by the pool. The book is full of laugh out loud moments and characters that feel like they could be your mates.
NOTABLE QUOTE: “Sometimes life takes the best and
worst it has to offer and throws the whole lot at you on the same day.”

This week's mantra
A PRAYER TO RELEASE THE DAY. I forgive the ways in which I did not rise today. I bless my mistakes. I release the need to account for supposed wrong doings. I grant pardon to the moments when I strayed from presence and wandered my attention away from what and who matters most. I use my breath to wipe away my worries, so that I might quiet my mind and rest well. I celebrate the moments of the day when I was of service, when I was brave, when I was present. I underline the tiny victories of vulnerability and courage. I sift through and select the sweetest moments, press them into my heart for safe keeping. I recommit myself to rising higher tomorrow. To making opportunities out of my mistakes. To believing in myself again. I shed this day like the skin it is. A container for this momentary expression of who I am. So, I can slide, naked and free into the next incarnation of me. Mantra: I release who I was today for who I can become tomorrow.

#DISABLEDSURFERSASSOCIATION
WHAT IS THE DISABLED SURFERS ASSOCIATION ALL ABOUT?
The Disabled Surfers Association was started in 1986 by Gary Blaschke after he sustained many injuries from a motorcycle accident and his friends got together to take him for a surf. From there we now have 18 branches around Australia and New Zealand, allowing many people with any disability to access the beach to have a safe water experience that most of us take for granted.
DO YOU HAVE ANY EVENTS COMING UP? Byron Bay has been
operating since 2003, and has a gathering in December and another one in March. The Far Out North Coast Branch also meets at Evans Head, Yamba, Minnie Water and Kingscliff.
DO YOU FEEL AS THOUGH THERE IS ENOUGH SUPPORT FOR THIS ORGANISATION? We are always in need of volunteers to help run our days smoothly. We try and operate on a minimum of 6 to 1, but that can also blow out to 30 to 1 for major disabilities.
HOW DO YOU GET PEOPLE ON BOARD TO HELP? Anyone with
surfing experience or just enthusiasm to get into the water is encouraged to attend for a rewarding fun filled experience. We supply training, rashvests, and lunch to all our volunteers. Our aim is to “put smiles on the dials” of participants and volunteers alike.
WHAT IS ONE EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE HAD IN YOUR WORK THAT YOU COULD NEVER FORGET? The one experience I recall
is a young girl being taken surfing and she was noncommunicative, but I saw her smile as she zoomed through the water and captured it on camera. I’ve never seen such happy joyful people, you go home with your face aching from smiling so much.
Go Byron hands on day March 16th. Meet at Clarkes beach carpark for volunteer sign up at 9am and 10am for participants. Call 0417 812 414 or visit www.disabledsurfers. org/nsw/far-north-coast-branch/ for more info.
