the likes of Jack Johnson, Paul Kelly and Hozier performing this year, it looks set to be a goodie. There are also a few free gigs worth catching in town, including acoustic folk rock siblings Boatkeeper at The Northern on Saturday (with support acts kicking off from 9pm) and coastal folk singer Tim Stokes at Three Blue Ducks on Sunday from 6pm. If you’d rather some retail therapy, don’t miss the Bangalow Designers Market on Saturday at Bangalow Public School (8am-3pm), and the Byron Beachside Market in Denning Park on Sunday (8am-4pm).

On Tuesday evening, Palace Cinemas will be hosting the Byron premiere of 2040, a documentary that explores what the future could look like if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream. The 6:30pm screening will be followed by a Q&A with local filmmaker Damon Gameau, so stick around. For tickets (at usual screening prices), visit palacecinemas.com.au. Also on Tuesday, Byron Youth Service will present Art Lab, a free two-day creative workshop in Suffolk Park for girls aged 12-15 (9:30am-2:30pm Tuesday and Wednesday). Contact Karma Barnes on 0450 707 709 to find out if there are any spots left.

DEAR KEENWA, So Easter. Woah, that has rolled around quickly. My northern hemisphere sisters are honouring goddess Oestre, painting eggs and getting their fertility dance on. It ain't exactly spring here. Any Aussie eco-pagan tips? - Southern Down Under Witch

DEAR SOUTHERN DOWN UNDER WITCH, Given that fertility really is a given in the shire, I cannot stress enough that preparation is the key at this festive time. Here's a few extra tips: stock up on organic snacks; and biodynamic, dairy-free, fair-trade eggs, and turmeric. Do not leave home. Do not pass Ewingsdale Road. Do not collect a million hitchhiking backpackers unless you're renting out your vehicle as a private Uber bus for extra cash obvs. By all means lend out your wellies, also. Give your water tanks the heads up that they will be busy all weekend. If all goes well, you shall be resurrected the weekend after with epic offshore winds, and a plethora of available parking spots at the farmer's market.

DEAR KEENWA, Bluesfest 2019! Yew, so pumped! I've been saving all year for the compulsory paid parking, but do you reckon they'll let me take my own snacks in? I'm already well over budget. I'm hoping pill testing is also an option as I've had to buy cheapies this year due to these other expenses. Do you know if either service offers Afterpay? - Festival Faux Pas

DEAR FESTIVAL FAUX PAS, Despite disco bikkie test machines in Europe showing changed behaviour - 50% of those who had their drugs tested said the results affected their consumption choices, and two-thirds said they wouldn’t consume the drug and would warn friends in cases of negative results. Our government would prefer us not to be informed consumers, nor reduce harm from illicit drug use. They also seem very concerned that paid parking will lead to...more parking. A serious and potentially fatal activity.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

MERCURY JUST MOVED INTO FIERY AND

fierce Aries, ready to unite with Chiron, the asteroid that represents our wounds and the transformation that can happen when we allow healing. This aspect happens over the Easter weekend and during the Full Moon in the very last degree of Libra. Be very conscious about your style of relating! Watch what triggers you to ruffle other’s feathers, or when and how you compromise yourself for the sake of ‘harmonious’ relationships. On Saturday evening the Sun moves into security-loving and sensual Taurus, but most likely the craved comfort-zone is elusive and short-lived, because the Sun is merging with the mover and shaker of the zodiac, revolutionary Uranus (exact on Tuesday). This is unique for most of us, since this has not happened in Taurus for 84 years! Any new ideas and impulses concerning your values or the dichotomy between security and freedom need to be embraced and contemplated. Maybe you feel inspired to liberate yourself and give yourself permission to express your unique individuality more fully. On Sunday lady Venus enters the archetypal warrior zone of Aries and unites with Chiron on Wednesday. She is in a fiery mood, takes herself very seriously, and values self-preservation and –assertion. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The Judgement Tarot card implies that it is absolutely essential to be sure about your motives before you speak or act during the Easter holidays. Impulsiveness could backfire big time! On the other hand if you carefully reflect on all your options, you may have great insights and awaken to new possibilities.

h TAURUS

The 9 of Cups and Taurus both have a great sense for beauty, style and refinement. This is the week to graciously accept all the little, beautiful offerings that life throws your way, or to improve your home, comfort-zone or lifestyle to reflect more of who you truly are and what you value.

i GEMINI

With the Sun Tarot card drawn your energy levels are up and you are ready to shine your light forth brilliantly. Work, fun and creativity blend into each other and may produce great results. Cooperation, collaboration and partnerships may be exciting; they amplify the fun as well as productivity.

j CANCER

The 2 of Wands symbolises an inner power struggle. You might not be quite sure whether to take a risk, or you just don’t trust the way you did your risk calculation. However you know that to achieve what you set out for, you have to leave familiar ground and make use of a very interesting opportunity.

BY GISELA

k LEO

The Strength Tarot card symbolises great passion and a zest for life. You navigate any difficulties with great courage, composure and resolve. This is a great time to advance any creative endeavour or to work on a project that consumes you totally. Your fiery energy needs a worthwhile outlet.

l VIRGO

The Queen of Wands knows herself and has awakened to her deepest essence, which is compassion for everything that is alive, including herself! With her by your side you easily overcome your inner critic and your need for outer perfection. You simply do your best and forget the rest.

a LIBRA

The Temperance Tarot card represents the universal principle of synthesis and synergy. This week you may find ways to integrate some polarities or paradoxes of your life and this may bring forth more beauty, balance and relaxation. There is also a great potential for any artistic venture.

b SCORPIO

The Prince of Cups has a very passionate heart and is driven by his desire nature. Many achievements or victories felt hollow until he learned unconditional self-love that is not dependent on outcomes. Your deep internal life may create suffering or lead you to a path of greater insights and awareness; the choice is always yours.

c SAGITTARIUS

The Empress Tarot card represents feminine leadership that is nurturing, tender and benevolent. You are not interested in personal gratification but in creating better outcomes for everyone involved. Make sure you have enough time to spend in beautiful nature which recharges your batteries.

d CAPRICORN

The Lovers Tarot card describes the art and craft of relationships; it is about giving and receiving, trust and openness. New ideas, situations and people may pop up in your life and initiate a transformative experience that leads to more wholeheartedness, readily expressed in a joyful way.

e AQUARIUS

The 6 of Swords encourages original and innovative thinking. It assists you to move away from who you used to be and towards who you want to be. The motto is: ‘Be the change that you want to see in the world.’ This way you overcome hurdles and you can be very inspiring for others.

f PISCES

With the Ace of Disks drawn, which is the highest manifestation card in the deck, you can expect concrete results and rewards. They are not so much depending on huge efforts and hard labour, but rather on your inner attitude of worthiness and an alignment with the principle of abundance.

With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra

“ALL ACTS ARE EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE, EITHER AS SKILFUL STATEMENTS OR CALLS FOR LOVE IN DISGUISED FORMS.” -ALAN COHEN.

Sometimes it’s hard to understand why she people can be such...assholes. I consider myself to be a pretty compassionate person. I’ve invested in the development and cultivation of understanding and kindness I can meet the world with more resonance and harmony. But even still, every so often I encounter someone who really gets under my skin. When that happens, I remind myself of this little gem. It has helped me find compassion for even the most tremendous assholes: “All acts are expressions of love, either as skilful statements or calls for love in disguised forms.” -Alan Cohen. Seeing the world through that lens explains a lot doesn’t it? It explains why some people insist on playing that tired old role of martyr or victim. It explains why some people must win at all costs. It explains why kids throw tantrums. It explains overachievement. Competitiveness. Jealousy. Addictions. Social media obsessions. All just calls for love. Clumsy ones. Desperate ones. Ugly ones. But calls for love nonetheless. The truth is, we all just want to be loved. So let’s bring more awareness and consciousness to the ways in which we are asking for love. Notice your behaviours and look for opportunities to be a little more honest about what you’re really seeking. Seek out opportunities to express your love as a skilful statement. And when we witness an act that is a “disguised call for love,” let’s see it for what it is. Simply recognising that someone is feeling unloved, outcast, small, alone or disregarded instantly softens our stance and melts away the armour so that at the very least, we can meet them with more compassion. And at best, we can use the opportunity to respond to their call (however clumsy it may be), rather than reject it, thereby breaking a cycle and creating a healed dialogue. I’m not saying you have to go and embrace every asshole in your life. I’m just saying, remind yourself that what we are all seeking is the feeling of that four-letter word. Then, see if you can make love both your skilful statement and your graceful response.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: Call Me Evie AUTHOR: J.P.Pomare NUMBER OF PAGES: 368 EST. READ TIME: 5 hours and 1 minute PRICE: $32.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Evie is being held against her will

in a small rural town in New Zealand. Far from her home in Melbourne and under the control of her uncle, she has no memory of why and how she got there. Her name isn’t really Evie and her uncle isn’t who he says he is either. What has Evie done and why can’t she remember? Will Evie escape her captor ? Or is he someone she should trust?

WHO IT'S FOR: Lovers of a thriller and a who dunnit. Think Gone Girl with a great twist.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: This book had me on the

edge of my seat the entire way through. It was like a magician performing a trick - hands at the front distracting your eyes whilst behind the scenes something else was brewing. Something much more intricate and interesting. Characters tightly wound into one another and surprises where you least expect them. Call Me Evie brings to light some of the dangers affecting teenagers in a technology driven world and the repercussions of being young and in love.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “Doubting what you see is a very odd experience. And doubting what you remember is also a pretty odd experience, because some memories come with a very compelling sense of truth about them, and that happens to be the case even for memories that are not true.”

This week's review written by Jessie Hilton @jessieahilton

Jessie Johns @MYNOURISHINGPANTRY WHAT IS DIETETICS? It’s the study and scientific understanding of diet and nutrition, and the affects it has on someone’s health - my passion! HOW TO MAKE THE WORLD’S BEST BREAKFAST? Condiments! I always go for a big ol’ nourish bowl when I have time to cook in the morning, but I’m always looking for new things to spice up my eggs a little. Cashew cheese, homemade pesto, dukkah, sauerkraut. Condiment Queen! And if I’m eating bread, it’s gotta be Almond Road. IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE? I love the idea of a tropical paradise destination, but I’m already kind of living that at the moment! I’ve always been super drawn to Scandinavia the few times that I’ve been there. I love their education system, government infrastructure, language, terrain, health/ wellness scene, etc. WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD EVERYONE STAY AWAY FROM? Hmm.. tough one! The one thing I’ve learnt is that every person is so different when it comes to diet, but something that is pretty generalised to try and avoid would be preservatives (gums, emulsifiers, articificial colours/sweetners/etc). They all have different health risks, but aspartame is the most harmful and procarcinogenic one. If there’s loads of preservatives, chances are it hasn’t got much nutritional value and is potentially doing you more damage than good! WHAT EVEN IS XANTHAN GUM? It’s a fermented ingredient from plant-pathogenic bacterium used to make things thick, commonly used in gluten free products to replace the gluten, or even in skin products. It tends to swell in your intestines slowing down your digestion, causing bloating, cramping, and other digestive issues.
