Later on, Future Faktori will be hosting its third birthday at The Brewery from 3pm. At the same time, awardwinning filmmaker Jack McCoy is set to present a twohour audiovisual ‘talk story’ alongside surfing legend Mark Occhilupo at Byron Theatre, with another session at 7pm. Tickets are $38 via byroncentre.com.au. If you haven’t yet seen Bangalow filmmaker Damon Gameau’s documentary 2040 – which explores what the future could look like by 2040 if we embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet, it's still showing at Palace Cinemas, and is well worth catching while you can (bring your kids!). Across town, Bang Bang chef Tyler Preston will be slinging $10 and $20 plates of goodness at Barrio’s monthly guest chef night, with $10 glasses of plonk by Smallfry Wines. See you there!

JUST OVER ONE MONTH AGO, ON THURSDAY 2ND MAY 2019, THE TEAM AT

Byron Bazaar wished you all farewell. Dan, Carla, Loren, Caitlin and Bjorn were ready to start new adventures, new beginnings but no-one had yet stepped forward to keep their precious weekly mag running. About that time, Jo and I found ourselves sitting in the Brunswick Heads Hotel on a glorious Sunday afternoon, listening to a few tunes and settling into a second bottle of wine. That would pose a problem as we still needed to drive home and we had by now forgotten who was to be the designated driver! As she always does, Jo soon solved the problem. A bit of phone surfing, a couple of text messages, and we were all set. We would stay overnight in the hotel right next door, and head home early in the morning. Upon that day I picked up the April 25th issue of Byron Bazaar. I had to take a look, because April 25th is my birthday, and there inside I saw a perfect gift advertised – “Byron Bazaar is for sale”. As they say in the classics, the rest is history. Some hastily arranged meetings, some fruitful discussions, some budding relationships – and here we are, the proud new owners of the Byron Bazaar. Jo and I look forward to getting to know you all – readers, writers, designers, distributors, and clients. We plan to keep the vibe, the buzz, the quality – dare I say, serenity - that has been the trade mark of the Bazaar for 238 issues. I am pleased [actually very pleased!] to say that Dan has agreed to stay on to help us with all that. So – after a month on the sidelines, and a week warming up, welcome to issue 239 of the Byron Bazaar. We hope you like it .... Peace in. Tony and Jo Byron Bazaar Adopters

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

A

JUPITER/NEPTUNE

SQUARE

FROM

Sagittarius to Pisces is a predominant influence this year and right now it is extremely strong. On the upside there may be an expansive, creative flow with great cosmic insight and inspiration. If you experience the downside of this aspect, it may be difficult to discern boundaries, and truth may become rather illusive. Whether you build castles in the air or make dreams come true may depend on how much faith you have in yourself and how much getup-and-go you have. Some recurring issues may only become clear in late September… On Thursday Mars in Cancer squares Pluto in Capricorn; inner conflict may manifest as an argument with one of your nearest and dearest. Most likely it won’t go anywhere. This is not a good day to negotiate sensitive topics! The Winter solstice occurs on Saturday and is defined by the Sun entering Cancer. It coincides with Neptune turning retrograde, and reinforces the strength of the square to Jupiter. In addition, Venus in Gemini is very chatty and forms a t-square with Jupiter and Neptune from Saturday to Tuesday (exact on Monday!). Whatever is presented as truth might need to be taken with a grain of salt. Also, connecting with others might work much better if you resist pushing your strong convictions and values. Unsolicited advice might not be well received and endless discussions may prove futile. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The Princess of Cups can have a very gentle, dreamy and romantic influence on your mood during this week. She nudges you to think with your heart rather than with your head. Allow the more sensitive you to come out and take the lead.

h TAURUS

The 9 of Swords describes a worry-pattern that easily makes you tense and anxious, especially if you feel your sense of security is threatened. This can happen due to the current astro flavour! Don’t be hard on yourself and maybe indulge in some sensual pleasures which make you feel better…

i GEMINI

The 3 of Wands focuses on body-mind-spirit alignment as well as questions of ethics and integrity. Don’t make any decisions or move into a new direction before you feel at one on all levels within yourself. Only then your big plans are grounded enough to grow and bear fruit.

j CANCER

The Hierophant Tarot card represents the archetype of the spiritual seeker, who finds valuable lessons in everything that is encountered, even in small and mundane things. Your Cancerian intuition is finely tuned and unless you get stuck in resistance to whatever is presented, you find plenty of opportunity for internal growth this week.

BY GISELA

k LEO

The 8 of Cups indicates that your overall energy levels might have reached a low point. Maybe you feel drained or burnt out? This is not a good time to make farreaching decisions. First allow some time for r&r to recharge your batteries. It will soothe your soul, and is especially important if you ponder questions around boundaries.

l VIRGO

c SAGITTARIUS

The Lovers Tarot focuses on the art and craft of relating. It offers new ways, in particular how to integrate seeming polarities. Opposition or differences in wants and needs pop up naturally when we get very close to another. Can you build a bridge or are you stuck in a ‘my way or the highway attitude’?

d CAPRICORN

The 6 of Disks promises a successful week. This is a good time to advance or showcase a project. You can gather support but you could also be the one who mentors others and passes on knowhow. Your organising and communication skills get you what you want, while being in service for a greater cause.

The Queen of Cups suggests taking time out of your normal business and allowing yourself to be nurtured by nature. In fact you may long for inner and outer communion so much, that you can’t resist, and so cast away your strong goal-orientated work ethics momentarily, to just find a little time for being, not doing...

a LIBRA

e AQUARIUS

The Princess of Swords stirs up the peace-loving harmony that Libra is constantly seeking, and offers a bit of a rebel attitude instead. This feistiness might just come at the right time to show people where you stand, and to find out what is worth fighting for. Take courage and go for it!

b SCORPIO

The 6 of Swords favours teamwork and cooperation. These might not be easy to master for the Scorpio personality, who rather goes it alone when things get tough. If you encounter a challenging situation, take a moment to consider the actions that lead you towards more inclusion and connection.

The Ace of Cups grants you the gift of open-heartedness. Even in difficult situations you remain transparent, and your emotional integrity sets the tone and standard for solving problems in an inclusive way. Cool and controlled habitual responses fall away and the heart takes the lead...

f PISCES

The 6 of Cups promise a delightful and socially active week. This is not the time to be in isolation. Get out, enjoy yourself and find ways to bring more kindness and joy into others’ lives as well. Your mission could be to find the sweet spot where giving and receiving is one and equally pleasurable.

DEAR KEENWA, Old and Gold. One word. Brutal. I sustained a hairline fracture to the wrist when I was inhumanely bowled over by a woman reaching for the same vinyl as me, even though my hands were clearly on the prize. I'm a DJ, that now can't work for six to eight weeks. She was wearing a pair of 501 originals, well worn Blundies and big glasses. If anyone knows of her whereabouts i'd greatly appreciate it. Please contact the cop shop with any info. - Ouch and Grouch

DEAR OUCH AND GROUCH, Not a very committed disc jockey are you mate? Like our hashtagging, we take our recycling as serious AF in these parts. You think she woke up in those Levis? It takes commitment to look this good. The rules are simple - head down, guns up, post and gloat.

DEAR KEENWA, I met the raddest chick on Tinder. We've had a bit of friendly banter, and I don't want to blow it. Especially, as she tells me her online dating experience before me has not been so cool, namely the high volume of genital pics she's received. But...could she be reverse psychology-ing me? Should a brother take a hint? I want her to know I'm serious about her. To send or not to send? - Sneaky Selfie

DEAR SNEAKY SELFIE, I happened to be telling a recent tinder date about said kinda pictures, to which he stormed out accusing me of castrating behaviours. Without paying for his beer. Now, I'm the first to admit i've been an emasculator in the past. But since the #himtoo movement i've consciously been cleaning up my act. Let me get this right, you want us to receive unsolicited pics, and give only positive feedback? Then not share such hilarity? I'm just as confused as you.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: The Familiars AUTHOR: Stacey Halls NUMBER OF PAGES: 352 EST. READ TIME: 5 hours and 39 minutes PRICE: $24.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: In Lancashire England during

the 1600s lives a young woman named Fleetwood. Married to a man her senior at the age of 13 she has been unable to provide an heir after some failed pregnancies. As her position as wife and her esteemed place in society is placed in jeopardy she stumbles upon a young midwife Alice, who might just have the answers to her problems. It soon becomes apparent that there may be more to Alice than first meets the eye. With women being rounded up in town accused of being witches what will be revealed about this towns ancient secrets?

WHO IT'S FOR: Those who like historical fiction and

the supernatural. Think Game of Thrones, Harry Potter or Downtown Abbey.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The Familiars sinks it’s teeth

into you and refuses to let go. The characters, even the bad ones, are layered. You can see them dining with you at a banquet and the crowds of villagers gathering at the famous witch trials. Set against the backdrop of countryside England it’s hard not to picture yourself running after Fleetwood through the treacherous forest and pouring rain.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “Suddenly the words seemed to fling

themselves from the page and wrap around my neck. And written too by a man whose name I did not recognise. So wreathed in pain was I when he visited that I could not recall a single detail about him: his touch, his voice or whether he was kind.” This week's review written by Jessie Hilton @jessieahilton

Belinda Hultgren @CIRCUSARTSAUSTRALIA WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN UP CIRCUS ARTS OVER 20 YEARS AGO? I love flying trapeze and circus. The idea of creating a space to teach and perform circus arts where I grew up was my dream. My inspiration comes from seeing what people can achieve through circus, things they thought were impossible or unobtainable before, that is why I love teaching. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A PART OF THE TRAVELLING CIRCUS MOVEMENT? Yes. I’ve toured Australia with Burton’s Circus, Lennon Brothers Circus and the Great Moscow Circus. I also toured the USA with Circus Chimera.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU THROUGH CIRCUS ARTS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED? Being able to teach and perform year round in my hometown. WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NIGHT MARKET ON JUNE 29TH, DO WE NEED TO KNOW ANY SPECIAL DETAILS ABOUT THE NIGHT? That it is not just any market. Lot’s of art forms will come together under one roof. You can expect live music, circus, visual and creative arts throughout the evening. There will be delicious food and drinks to enjoy while you browse the stalls packed with a diverse range of local products both new and vintage. DO YOU HAVE ANY CLICHÉ CIRCUS STORIES FOR US? My life is a ‘flyer meets catcher’ love story. My partner and I met on a flying trapeze and became close friends. We took different paths in circus but always stayed in touch. Years later we both moved back to the area, reconnected and now live happily ever after.

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Circus Arts Australia. To celebrate, join the free Night Market Under the Big Top on Sat 29th June, 4-9pm.
