On Saturday evening, Mullum’s Rock and Roll Coffee Company will be hosting Warm Up, a community charity event in aid of the Mullumbimby Neighbourhood Centre. Local DJs will be in charge of the eclectic playlist – from reggae to soul, disco to techno – from 5pm, with liquid courage and dance fuel available through to 11pm. Entry is by an item of canned food, which will go to the MNC. No plans for Father’s Day on Sunday? If you’ve got little ones, Club Lennox is the place to be from 4pm, when it will celebrate the opening of its new outdoor playground with food by Smokin’ Barrel, live music by Cecilia Brandolini, free kids face painting and playground fun. In Byron at the Beachy, Late for Woodstock will be belting out ‘60s and ‘70s classics just for dad from 4:30-7pm; bring your old man down for a boogie.

DEAR KEENWA, I'm an overweight cat that has learned how to type so that I can ask you a question. Are chubby cats cute, or should I lose the love handles and get my beach bod back in time for summer? I'm not kitten around. - Pussy Riot
DEAR PUSSY RIOT, I'm thinking your owner has you on a vegan diet. In the UK that would give them a criminal record. Also, the lack of protein encourages excess sugar cravings, which we know leads to tubby tummies. One word for you my kitty. Rewild. There was a time where you used to live at one with nature, and kill your own prey. A few months of chase, dive, hunt, and you'll be trim before you can say Falls Festival.
DEAR KEENWA, There is this bloke I'm into. Sometimes. Sometimes I'm into my job, or my neighbour or a one night stand more, but instead of communicating this clearly, I like to keep him hanging there. In case. We've never actually met IRL, wouldn't that be weird? Warmish Wendy
DEAR WARMISH WENDY, This sounds like a classic case of 'curving.' An annoying long distant cousin of our buddy ghosting. Whereby instead of actually just dropping off the face of the earth for your ex-girlfriend's mother in law's funeral overseas (still cannot believe you ran that story line Sam from MAFS last season) you keep responding to their lovely attempts at getting to know you, but bat away any questions regarding commitment or definitions of your relating. You forget about meeting up IRL, because deep down you know you can't truly know someone until you actually physically spend time together, which would mean you can no longer avoid any real feelings or intimacy fears. Batter up.

This week's mantra
CULTIVATE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE.
This column is part of a 4-part series on daily rituals that will help you retrain your mind and reclaim the goodness, joy and delight in your life by cultivating a positive perspective. Catch up on past columns on the Byron Bazaar website.
RITUAL 2: GRATITUDE. As humans we’re wired to look for what’s wrong. And while that can be a useful tactic to survive, it’s not all that helpful when you’re looking to thrive. So how to unstuck your brain from having DJ Debbie Downer on repeat? Make note of what you’re grateful for. Sounds simple, but it’s powerful enough to literally change your brain. A regular gratitude practice can be an effective way to develop a positive mindset, or what Harvard happiness expert Shawn Achor calls “the happiness advantage.” 1
BEAUTY ROOM FOR RENT
Above a beautiful busy hair salon with its own sink. Includes free Wifi, electricity and aircon/heating. Communal kitchen and bathroom. Cross-promotion opportunities with salon $275 plus gst per week - 0406 610 1480
Here’s why it works. A gratitude ritual retrains your attention and broadens your perspective to include the positive. It helps you to notice the things you might otherwise “see-through.” The invisible goodness. Those positive aspects of life that are so easily overlooked by our critical perspective. I dig Achor's advice on how to structure your gratitude practice. He suggests writing down three things you're grateful for from the last 24 hours. This is an effectual approach because it keeps your eye on the ball. It can be easy to slip into a gratitude rut, repeating the same "big" things every day (my health, my family, etc.,) but Achor's approach keeps your gratitude fresh, relevant, and calls your attention to the tiny gems that you might otherwise not notice. You start celebrating the small things and keep your eyes peeled for all the many blessings in your life. It can be gameful and fun (like a word search or one of those Where’s Wally books) and this helps to make it a ritual (not just a routine!) that you'll want to return to every day. So go forth and be grateful. 1. Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
FROM NOW UNTIL THE 14TH OF SEPTEMBER
we live under a predominantly Virgoan influence with Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars residing there. All things orderly, practical and perfect are appreciated. At the same time the outlook is overly idealistic; a lot of fault-finding leads to excessive nit-picking and worrying about everything. Micro-managing other people’s life is one of the downfalls of Virgo and we are all are more prone to it right now. On the upside it may be possible to find new methods and ways to work things out. On Friday the New Moon in Virgo might be challenging for relationships that are less than satisfactory. Sun, Venus and Mars travel closely together and can be in a hyper-critical mood. They form a trine to Uranus, the mover and shaker of the zodiac; here is an opportunity to inspire each other with amazing and unique ideas to solve old problems. This energy lasts during the weekend and on Monday it is Mercury’s turn to form a trine to Uranus. If we focus on solutions and the bigger picture, rather than being overwhelmed by working out details, great things might be instigated. One of the most wonderful traits of Virgo is its dedication to be of service to the greater whole; with that as a motto, nothing much can go wrong! Lady Venus might feel a bit edgy from Monday to Wednesday. First she trines Saturn and is ready to talk strategy and business, but then she squares Jupiter and suddenly feels overcommitted and wants more freedom. Next she opposes Neptune and may suffer from unfulfilled longings and confusion. Sun, Mercury and Mars unite on Wednesday and try to focus on a new beginning; this is a kind of cosmic reset, which could clear the air. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
When the Tower Tarot card appears it is time to surrender, which is not an easy thing for the Ram. If your plans get disrupted and events move beyond your control, there is nothing you can do but let go. This might be a humbling but obviously necessary development and it makes room for the new.
h TAURUS
The Knight of Cups indicates that you have learnt some valuable lessons concerning self-appreciation and selfcare. Because you balance self-love and your devotion to your nearest and dearest, you may enjoy relationships tremendously, while treasuring your personal freedom at the same time.
i GEMINI
The 2 of Swords is a very dualistic card, just as Gemini is a dualistic sign. The more you think about an issue, the more sides and possibilities you see. It gets increasingly difficult to make a decision, plus you might try desperately to keep everyone else happy. Search for the common denominator in all those different options to find clarity.
j CANCER
The 4 of Wands symbolises good times. You may have plenty of opportunity to celebrate life and your success. It is a good idea to acknowledge all the hard work that got you there, before you focus on new adventures and possibilities…
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Fool Tarot card heralds a new, courageous and wholehearted beginning. Things like status and prestige have lost their glitter, and you are now connecting with your true heart and spirit, to embark on the ecstatic adventure that this can bring.
l VIRGO
The Chariot Tarot card affirms the ‘cosmic reset’ mentioned above, especially if this is your birthday week. You might surprise yourself with new-found assertiveness and confidence, and you let people know how you want to be treated. This creates new realities…
a LIBRA
The 3 of Wands inspires bodymind-spirit consciousness. It may assist you to go beyond the top half of your body and include the lower chakras. Ground yourself on earth, walk barefoot and when you exercise pay attention to having a whole-bodied experience. Inner balance makes outer balance easier to achieve.
b SCORPIO
The 9 of Cups is often called the wish card. It heralds an experience that opens your heart and makes love and compassion, giving and receiving, your greatest pleasure this week. Don’t hide; mingle with people, so that you can take full advantage of this very social and fulfilling time.
c SAGITTARIUS
With the 7 of Wands drawn you may experience some personal pressure and you feel somewhat unsure how to respond. Take courage to stay true to your values and convictions. Go for what you want and don’t settle for less, otherwise you’ll regret it later…
d CAPRICORN
The Priestess Tarot card suggests withdrawing from involvement with people and duties for a while and spending some time in quiet contemplation. Trust it, when your inner voice tells you that you need to recharge your batteries. Your spiritual path includes keeping inner equilibrium and peace, and it is becoming increasingly important.
e AQUARIUS
The 2 of Cups is all about love and connection, as much within yourself, as with others. This is the perfect time to give love to those parts within yourself that you have been judging all your life. As you nurture these parts, you soften and heal.
f PISCES
With the 5 of Cups drawn you may feel disappointed and an inner emptiness is spreading around your heart. A lot of these feelings are connected to old hurts that exaggerate the momentary pain and may blow it out of proportion. Be gentle with yourself, this will pass too…

This week's review
TITLE: The Familiars AUTHOR: Stacey Halls NUMBER OF PAGES: 352 EST. READ TIME: 5 hours 39 minutes PRICE: $24.99 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? In Lancashire England during
the 1600s lives a young woman named Fleetwood. Married to a man her senior at the age of 13 she has been unable to provide an heir after some failed pregnancies. As her position as wife and her esteemed place in society is placed in jeopardy she stumbles upon a young midwife Alice, who might just have the answers to her problems. It soon becomes apparent that there may be more to Alice than first meets the eye. With women being rounded up in town accused of being witches what will be revealed about this town's ancient secrets?
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The Familiars sinks it’s teeth into you and refuses to let go. The characters, even the bad ones, are layered. You can see them dining with you at a banquet and the crowds of villagers gathering at the famous witch trials. Set against the backdrop of countryside England it’s hard not to picture yourself running after Fleetwood through the treacherous forest and pouring rain.
WHO IT'S FOR: Those who like historical fiction and the

This week's recommendation ALBUM TITLE: Duck ARTIST: The Kaiser Chiefs RELEASED: July 2019 GENRE: Indie Rock / Britpop
BIO: Named after the South African soccer team, the Kaiser Chiefs, have been ruling charts, pubs and dancefloors since 2000. They've got some big, big songs including Ruby, I Predict A Riot and Everyday I Love You Less and Less.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Tunes more infectious, and more
catchy than the winter cold. Instant gratification, finger tapping, feel good memorable lyrics. To look for the next Kaiser Chief anthem. An easily accessible album for Britpop fans.
WHAT WE LIKE: It is probably not an album the critics

will love but there is nothing wrong with poppy lyrics and catchy tunes and why should we hope that every album will be a classic. Pressing play, turning it up and enjoying the rock n roll without getting too deep or critical. If you have a lucky shirt that you think won't go out of fashion or you can't decide if Kurt Cobain or Fraiser ruled the 90s in Seattle then these pressing subjects are finally brought into the light here. Oh, musically, all bits of the usual guitar, bass, drums fit together with tight performances from an experienced band for that anthemic Kaiser sound, with a bit less of their punk sound.
STANDOUT TRACKS:
- Record Collection - Lucky Shirt - Electric Heart
PERFECT FOR: The start of a sunny day or after lunch
when you need a pick me up. For singing to in the car or shower. Pub rockin'.
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Oasis, Razorlight, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers.
