2 BYRON BAZAAR
BEFORE I RUSH TO THE WEEK AHEAD, I WANT TO SEND A “YEWWWW BEAUTY”
to all those who have contributed to the Bazaar over the years. Last week Issue 250 distributed info and smiles throughout the streets of Byron, as it has done since October 2014. Starting life with a promise to offer “an eclectic marketplace where goods and services of all kinds are bartered, bought and sold”, the Bazaar continues that tradition, in its own unique way. Lots of folk made that little piece of history possible. Thankyou one and all. Now, to this week. Sportsfans will know that Australia just slapped the poms and retained the Ashes bragging rights. This was way more than just a cricket match. This was two teams representing their countries – two countries fighting for sporting supremacy – one star overcoming adversity to dominate the competition – one little urn returning to Australia. What a series! I’ve been so busy watching the all-night broadcasts, I haven’t got around to unpacking after our recent move to the bay. Much to the good wife’s displeasure, all the old CD’s from storage now lay strewn about the loungeroom floor. So many classics, so many good times, so many days of listening pleasure - SO much mess!! Modern tech makes listening to music so very much tidier. No tapes, no records, no CD’s – just download your favourites, sync to a boom box, and away you go. No covers to read, no albums or CD’s to store, no scratches to endure – just get straight into your musical pleasure zone. As well as the space savings, this system also frees you up to experiment - listen before you judge, try before you buy, trade an album of commitment for a single night’s stand. That sounds like the 1960’s!! Speaking of happy evenings - did you know that there are four main contributors to healthy doses of serotonin – the happy chemical? They are meditation, bright light, exercise and diet. I am going to add a fifth – good music. And where better to find all of those contributors in abundance than right here in Byron Bay?! We have no excuse not to be happy, healthy and high on life. Celebrate the Ashes, enjoy the sun, taste the fruits, dance to the music, listen to the vibe of your body - and stay chilled. Tony, Byron Bazaar

This week's mantra
BUSYNESS IS NOT A BADGE OF HONOUR.
Busyness is not a badge of honour. Busyness is not synonymous with worthiness. Busyness is not a status symbol. Let's stop treating it as such. Let's stop making "busy" our default response to the question "how have you been?" "Busy" is not only a lazy (and boring) way of summing up our lives, but it creates an internal climate of overwhelm and perpetuates the cultural conditioning of fatigue and burnout. You don't need an excuse or a reason or permission to rest. You don't owe us an explanation. You don't need to wait until you get sick to stop. You don't need to wait until you're burned out to take a break.
NEW - HYPNOTHERAPY - BYRON BAY
Working together with deep relaxation methods to address your Life concerns and achieve a more harmonious way to be. Make Appt with Julia 0404 863 757
Reclaim agency over your energy. Ride your cycles of vitality like the waves they are. Rebel against the artificial currents of urgency and importance. Rebel with a pause. Rest is an inherent part of the natural world. All around us things ebb, flow, rise, fall, frost, melt, shine and hide. As human beings, why would be excluded from this law of nature? Rest is rich with merit, and yet our culture has discouraged us from having it, instructing us to override our instincts and instead push forward in a perpetual hustle. We've gone so far as to turn busyness into a badge of honour and twist rest into a source of shame. But that's a losing proposition. We're overriding our natural rhythms instead of embracing their wisdom. When we should be rising and falling like the seasons and the moon and the tides, we're burning ourselves out, buzzing and flickering erratically like a cheap neon light. We've forgotten how to rest. In fact, many of us are downright scared of rest. And yet, without rest, we can't really do, be or achieve our best. So let's reclaim rest, shall we? Because we all do our best when we let ourselves have a little rest.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY WE STILL
have Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in meticulous and organised Virgo; with a Mercury/Venus conjunction and Sun/Mars only five degrees apart. On Thursday Mars forms a square to Jupiter which could lead to internal struggle and much frustration. The Mercury/Venus union is exact on Saturday morning, just before the Full Moon; here is a chance for honest communication and fruitful interaction. Voice your concerns, maybe even agree to disagree, and try to move on in synchronicity with Mercury and Venus slipping into cooperative and diplomatic Libra in the afternoon. The Full Moon in Pisces always has a dreamy and extremely sensitive quality, and this time the Moon teams up with Neptune, which enhances these qualities even further. The Virgo Sun forms a trine to Pluto which could inspire great transformation and a new perspective, but Mars opposes Moon and Neptune which might raise confusion, a conflict of interests or outright deception. With so much going on during this time it might be a good idea to find a place of retreat and refuge from the business of the world around you! Time alone might prove to be very soothing… From Sunday onwards Mercury travels a little faster than Venus, but the pair stays in close contact for another week. Their mission is finding beauty, balance and harmony in all interactions. On Tuesday and Wednesday they oppose Chiron which may inspire reconciliation and embracing denied parts of the self, therefore mid-week is an ideal opportunity for a healing session. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The Queen of Wands lives her life in a wholehearted and compassionate way. She learned how to tame the inner beast of reactivity and judgement. With her by your side you may feel free, optimistic and cheerful, even if the world around you is not.
h TAURUS
The Ace of Swords brings the great gift of mental clarity and this week you may be able to resolve a difficult situation by being objective and utterly honest at the same time. You might be graced with some wonderful insights or ‘aha’ moments.
i GEMINI
The 7 of Cups paints a picture of being emotionally overwhelmed. When that happens to the Twins, the mind goes into overload and makes things worse. Even too much of a good thing can trigger you into chaotic feelings. Try to curb excessive behaviour and only indulge in things that truly calm you down and improve your mood long-term.
j CANCER
With the 4 of Disks drawn you may face an internal dilemma. On the one hand you struggle to keep clear boundaries, because you feel the needs of your nearest and dearest so much, but on the other hand you have to set clear limits otherwise you feel taken advantage off. It is important to make empowered decisions and not be guided by fear.
BY GISELA
k LEO
c SAGITTARIUS
l VIRGO
d CAPRICORN
The 8 of Cups symbolises emotional exhaustion. You may feel like you have nothing more to give, and your only choice is moving away from all involvements that drain your energy so much. It may help you to become less resentful of others if you contemplate that it was your own decision to overextend yourself in the first place.
The Temperance Tarot card describes the art of integrating polarities and paradoxes. You are challenged to find your inner balance and refrain from harsh self-judgement within, even though you may have opposing wants and needs. Once Mercury and Venus move into Libra this will be much easier…
a LIBRA
The Strength Tarot card represents resilience and stamina. It assists you to tap into latent potential and hidden reserves when under pressure. In contrast to other times in your life, any adverse situation right now may actually be invigorating and it strengthens your backbone.
b SCORPIO
The Prince of Disks’ main concern is to stay safe, therefore he moves slowly and cautiously. With him by your side you are taking care of details and wrapping up loose ends because you know these are the prerequisites for the next big step to follow. Thinking strategically really works this week!
The Ace of Disks holds the great gift of feeling comfortable, safe and protected. Often your philosophical approach to life denies these purely human needs, but right now you can say yes to material success and manifest what you want with ease. You are very willing to adopt a down-to-earth, practical attitude.
With the 9 of Disks drawn the time is ripe to allow yourself to enjoy the fruits of your hard labour. Make a point to open up to a more refined and comfortable lifestyle. If an opportunity presents itself that lets you relish the finer things in life and indulge a little, accept it graciously.
e AQUARIUS
The Empress Tarot card represents the archetype of motherhood and feminine leadership straight from the heart. When you combine your inner wisdom with loving action and guidance, you serve your immediate environment perfectly well. Express your tenderness and care in as many ways as possible.
f PISCES
The 2 of Disks symbolises the ancient wisdom that the only constant thing in life is change. With the Full Moon in your sign you might find that this weekend the tide is turning; if you stay in the flow without resistance, you intuitively gravitate towards greater opportunities and more fulfilment.

This week's review
TITLE: The Apricot Memoirs AUTHOR: Tess Guinery NUMBER OF PAGES: 212 EST. READ TIME: 2 hours 2 minutes PRICE: $40.00 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? The Apricot Memoirs is a collection
of poetry and prose about life, love, motherhood and adventure. A love letter to the universe and all it can throw at us. The Apricot Memoirs is a beautiful book to hold in your hands, with pretty apricot coloured pages and a poem devoted to each page, making it easy to digest. Each page reads like a short, punchy instagram caption. You could leave it by your bedside and devote time to read a page a day just as you wake up.
WHO IT'S FOR: Women, mothers, creatives, adventurers, professionals, writers and truth seekers.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: It’s an antidote to a bad
day and will warm your heart. I find poetry a kind of meditation and this book gives you a chance to pause and marinate on the remarkable in the simple, everyday moments.
NOTABLE QUOTE: "Fear takes up residence after
sneaking through the back gate. It becomes a nuisance, like a guest that has outstayed their welcome. It forces us into polite, tight lipped submission. It takes a quietened ear to hear lady wisdom whisper her reveals. So let the maverick in you rise to the occasion. Toss fear’s belongings into the street and quickly change the locks. I promise you the sway into freedom is sheer delight - the reward for your bravery is nothing but a sweet, silver thread of: intimacy, understanding, connection and freedom."

"TRIVIA THURSDAYS WITH BEV AND THE TEAM @ GROUP 24"
This week's recommendation ALBUM TITLE: The Kids Are Coming ARTIST: Tones and I RELEASED: August 2019 GENRE: Electronica / Pop
BIO: Imagine something like this... your name is
Toni Watson A.K.A. Tones and I, you quit your job in Melbourne, move to Byron, live in a van for a year or so, busk on the streets of Byron, draw big crowds, get discovered, win some busking comps, draw a crowd of 20,000 as you play an opening set of Splendour this year, top the charts. Simple.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Less is more on an EP, so speaking concisely - it's top-notch.
WHAT WE LIKE: Song structures and arrangements
that are uncomplicated, after all, what we leave out of the mix is equally as important as what we leave in. Some thoughtful songwriting and honesty are allowed to shine as bright as Byron's lighthouse. It is a slam dunk with the title track's marching beat on The Kids Are Coming filing you straight into line. It will let you know about the 'kids' frustration with 'the mans' failings for future generations on planet earth. The smash-hit Dance Monkey drops in next for some happy dancing vibes before some deeper issues are explored in the coming tracks. And the final track Never Seen the Rain brings us all back together for an uplifting sing-along anthem. Following her rise from the streets to critical acclaim, the buzz of what comes next for Tones and I is more than inspiring.
STANDOUT TRACKS: - All 6 on the EP
PERFECT FOR: Marching (or dancing) to the beat of your own drum. Making the world a better place. Uniting the peeps.
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: G Flip, Thundamentals, SAFIA, Lorde.

DEAR KEENWA, On a fine morning down at SGB recently, a random woman threw sand at my kid. He was having a blast, literally. Minding his own business throwing sand at himself. He's two years old. She came up and got in his face for a bit of payback. She must have been at least 72. Still had a sharp strike on her. I was too stunned to react at the time, but I am ready now. Please help me track her down. - Granny Hunter
DEAR GRANNY HUNTER, What. The. Actual. Feck? Give me a moment, I am in shock. You mean you actually risked a run in with the SGB gang down at the beach, with your toddler? It clearly sounds as if granny was a member. Do not let the arthritis fool you. Can you remember any facial specifics? Neck tattoos? Was it a right or left handed throw?
DEAR KEENWA, A group of hippy mates recently took me on a bush walk. They demanded I take my shoes off. There were bindis, green ants, and a million other predators around, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I know spiritual growth is about taking yourself to your edge, but this was just too much. I like shoes. There I said it. Am I any less conscious? And is there really any substance to the barefoot thing, scientific or otherwise? Socks Also
DEAR SOCKS ALSO, I know those condescending conscious types. They glare at crying babies during ceremony, forgetting that in most traditions that they themselves practice, children, dogs and often cigarettes are part of spiritual life. There is no separation between the sacred and the mundane. I lived in a local community here once, and the conscious peeps had a meeting to remove our trampoline, as my kids' laughter disturbed their spiritual practices. I think God might have been telling them to jump more. But wtf would I know?
HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

YOU ARE ABOUT TO LAUNCH AN EXPERIENCE WHEREBY SOMEONE CAN SPEND A DAY WORKING AT THE BREWERY, NATURALLY, WE ASSUME INCLUDES SAMPLING. TELL US MORE... For years on our brewery tours, we have been asked by our drinkers how they can get their hands dirty and give brewing a crack. After seeing some great examples of immersive brewing experiences in the States, we thought why not create the opportunity right here in the Bay. As well as brewing a S&W brew, the small group of four will take a sensory class, learn about S&W’s approach to brewing and business, taste (more than a fair share) of beer from tap and tank, and finish up with a mini pub crawl through Byron. THE LAUNCH OF THE EXPERIENCE FOLLOWS FATHER'S DAY, HOW HAS YOUR DAD INSPIRED OR HELPED YOU IN LIFE? Well apart from introducing me to my first beers, my Dad is a Goldfield's born larrikin who doesn’t really care what anyone thinks. He’s the most open and appreciative person I know. WHAT DOES BYRON NEED MORE OR LESS OFF? Less – patchoul | More – drag queen trivia nights YOU ARE OFF TO A FANCY DRESS PARTY, WHO ARE YOU DRESSED AS? Boy George. IN A TERRITORIAL STANDOFF BETWEEN BRUSH TURKEYS AND GARDEN GNOMES WHO WOULD WIN AND WHY? Brush Turkeys. They ain’t no scrub
SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT
Are you a lover of all things social, based in the Shire, passionate about the music industry and ready to work in a fast-paced environment? We’re looking for an experienced Social Media Assistant with superstar skills to join us at Bluesfest and Bluesfest Touring. Have what it takes? Email your CV and cover letter to: ADMIN@BLUESFEST.COM.AU *Minimum 3 years experience. Full working rights in Australia are essential.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE BREWERY LIFE? I started as a teenage casual at Little Creature Brewing Co. in Freo – almost 13 years ago… loads of travel and working in breweries since then has made me appreciate the simplicity of beer hospitality – way less wank serving a beer than a wine! To find out how you can spend a day in the life of a brewer or tour the brewery head to stoneandwood.com.au/brewery-tours. To taste the best beer drop into your local or the Tasting Room on Cent. Crct., Byron Arts & Ind. Est.
