HERE’S SOME GOOD
news to kick start the weekend. Bees are very adaptable. Why does that matter? Please read on. Last week’s global climate change protests were all about the weather. Some believe changes to the weather indicate that we are hurtling towards a man-made climate catastrophe, others that it is simply the natural cycle of things. Melting polar ice-caps, dying frogs, disappearing coastlines, bleached reefs. Is there a measure of climate change that could make us all take notice? The number of protests or protesters, the celebrity of the spokesperson, or the anger levels of Sir David Attenborough. Whichever ones we use, as one of the protest signs so eloquently put it, if we get it wrong, “There is no Planet B”. And no bees. Busy, buzzing honeybees may be our canary in the coalmine. Bees are dying. Ten million hives have disappeared in the last three years. With one third of our food supply relying on bees and their pollination, less bees means less food. Almonds, blueberries, avocados and apples all disappear without honeybee pollination. Imagine a world without avo on toast or blueberry muffins, apple pies and almond tarts, honey dripping from pancake stacks. It would be anarchy in a bee-less world. But here’s the good news - planet A can learn from the bee. Bees are adaptable. They find simple, practical ways to adjust to suit the conditions. They don’t go out when it rains. When it’s stinking hot they gather water to keep the colony cool. Guard bees defend the entrance to the hive from thieves. Forager bees fly longer hours to bring in the pollen. Processor bees work harder to make and store honey. The Queen slows down her baby bee cycle to ease the demand for food. Admirably, bees work as a collective to ensure their future, relying heavily on open communication, flexibility and general co-operation. No time for a game of bee name and shame. Hmmm – smart insect the old honeybee. We should add SAVE THE BEE to our list of carbon footprint reduction activities. Plant a pollinator-friendly garden and maximise floral blooms; grow plants on windowsills and porches; leave sugar water out for thirsty bees to sup; and please, keep the Mortein away from beehives. Whatever the weather, whatever measure you choose, we need to work together, keep up the buzz, and as always, stay chilled. Tony, Byron Bazaar

This week's mantra
CLARITY COMES FROM WITHIN. A prayer for inner clarity.
Clear the table. So I can sit with myself. Eye to eye and heart to heart. Make me still and silent. So I can hear myself again. Unburden me of the weight created by a lack of discernment. Help me lay down what I’ve picked up that does not belong to me.
NEW - HYPNOTHERAPY - BYRON BAY
Let me build a fire. Let me burn down the doubts and misconceived ideas, turn them to smoke. Offering up who I could have been, who I should have been. For who I really am.
Make Appt with Julia 0404 863 757
Working together with deep relaxation methods to address your Life concerns and achieve a more harmonious way to be.
Stop me from searching outside of myself. Point my compass inward toward the folded helix of my heart. Let me take direction from the wisdom layered within those tender tissues. Create a quiet landscape in my mind. Smooth it out. Illuminate the darkness with a reflection of truth. Like a full moon reflecting the light of the sun. Like a dark lake reflecting the light of the moon. Make me like moon light. Devoted to the steady reflection of a celestial truth. Give me the courage to issue an arsenal of “No”s Let them march from my mouth like little revolutionaries. Defending my energy. Clearing the way. So I can once again recognise the “Yes” as it thunders forth from my depths. That subtle roar of applause, my cells resounding in delight. So that “Yes” bursts forth only in the company of that truthful trinity: resonance, desire, intention. So that “Yes” once again becomes a jubilation. A celebration. A creation. A seed. A bud. A bloom. A blossoming. Intention in action.

And when I forget and feel confused or inundated or wayward, help me hush up the outer world, show me how to spiral inward. Remind me that an answer, an affirmation, an approval is not something to be fielded from outside of me, but rather, something that arises naturally from within me. Whenever I listen well.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
MERCURY AND VENUS IN LIBRA WANT
nothing more than peace and harmony but it might not be forthcoming easily this week. Both planets are under strain because of squares to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. On Thursday Venus is in the pressure-cooker with Saturn; maybe someone is demanding too much, but setting limits makes you feel uncomfortable. On Friday whatever happened on Thursday may have repercussions. A Mercury/ Pluto square amplifies inner and outer tensions, and arguments are highly likely. A Sun/Chiron opposition on the same day raises the question of how much compromise is too much. The New Moon in Libra on Sunday offers a little reprieve from all the stressful situations, and it is the perfect day to do something that uplifts your spirit. An outing into beautiful nature or socialising with good friends might give you the inspiration you need and may help to put things into perspective. On Tuesday it is Venus’ turn to form a square to Pluto and many of us will be back in the pressure-cooker. Be conscious about your own compulsive behaviour and be gentle with addressing others’. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The 8 of Disks suggests being as diligent as possible in all matters this week. Slow down, take care of details and don’t assume anything. The more order you create in your surroundings right now, the less chaotic you feel deep inside and the less reactive you’ll be! This in turn creates more overall harmony.
h TAURUS
With the 6 of Swords drawn you fare best with a rational and logical approach to all your affairs. A little teamwork and cooperation also go a long way! Resist the urge to react stubbornly. This is how you move on from being who you used to be towards who you want to be.
i GEMINI
The Queen of Swords is very open, direct and outspoken; she doesn’t mind ruffling others’ feathers, in fact at times she might quite enjoy it! With her by your side you are ready to face the truth. You see through pretence but your righteousness and reactivity might also be quite strong.
j CANCER
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Knight of Wands is passionate and hot tempered; he is a mover and shaker who never sweats the small stuff. With him by your side, you may leap forward into uncharted territory and enjoy the ride. Some people may call you reckless, but you may choose to not care about that.
l VIRGO
When the Hanged Man appears it is time to let go, surrender and stop struggling against the current tide. Your most successful approach to this week would encompass a radically new perspective and a letting go of out-dated or maybe even self-sabotaging habits. What would going with the flow mean to you right now?
a LIBRA
The 6 of Wands clears the road for success and triumph, but as a Libran and with Sun, Mercury and Venus in your sign, true victory means creating winwin situations all around. The New Moon in your sign might be especially potent for you in regards to peace-making with loved ones.
b SCORPIO
With the Prince of Cups drawn you might feel like retreating into your own private, maybe a bit dreamlike, space where you can be cushioned from the challenges of the world. Working by yourself on your favourite pet-project soothes your soul and helps you to deal with the extremely high emotional tide of this week.
The 4 of Wands represents a time of completion and new beginnings. Make sure you celebrate your achievements before you move on to the next big project. Acknowledging how far you have come is an important step for your self-evaluation and assists you to look into the future with excitement and positive expectation.
YOUR BUSINESS HERE FROM $17
c SAGITTARIUS
With the Priestess Tarot card drawn you may experience the very real and urgent need to withdraw from social or business involvement for a while. Time in nature, meditation and contemplation become increasingly important to redevelop your emotional/ spiritual balance. When you allow for that you hear your inner guidance loud and clear.
d CAPRICORN
The Sun Tarot card shines her brilliant light onto your everyday experience, delighting you with many little blessings and invigorating you with great vitality. This energy should not be used for work alone; it becomes even more enjoyable when you spend time with family and friends or your favourable pet project.
e AQUARIUS
When the Tower Tarot card appears you may have to adjust to sudden, unwanted changes in your life that bring chaos and upheaval. The more you resent what is going on, the more your energy gets drained into stubbornly trying to keep control of the uncontrollable. Flexibility is the keyword here!
f PISCES
The 3 of Wands symbolises the body-mind-spirit connection. Its focus is integrity and it favours choosing the high road rather than getting bogged down in your comfort zone. Physical exercise is an excellent way to clear the mind and spirit from cobwebs while it increases your energy on every level.

This week's review
TITLE: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing AUTHOR: Hank Green NUMBER OF PAGES: 352 EST. READ TIME: 5 hours 28 minutes PRICE: $29.99 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? 23 year old April is wandering the
streets of New York City in the early hours of the morning when she comes across a weird looking sculpture, a transformer looking robot. As an arts graduate, and a fan of creative pursuits she stops to admire it. April decides that the sculpture deserves some extra attention and asks her mate Andy to record her interviewing the giant robot, jokingly named Carl. Andy posts the video on youtube and by the next day both April and Carl have gone viral. What is it that makes Carl so special? And why has the world been waiting to see what happens next? April and Andy begin to realize that by stumbling upon this sculpture they have become part of something much, much bigger than themselves.
WHO IT'S FOR: Millennials will enjoy this book. This is a mystery and a comedy rolled into one.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: This book is dazzling,
fast paced, funny and grabs you by the collar from chapter one. It beckons you to come along for the ride. And you’ll do so willingly.
NOTABLE QUOTE: "I’d heard all this before, but I also
knew that this line of argument worked. If you tell people that they’re being attacked for their beliefs, then suddenly they want to defend their beliefs, even if they didn’t really believe them before. It’s pretty amazing, really."

This week's recommendation
ALBUM TITLE: Norman Fu#$ing Rockwell! ARTIST: Lana Del Rey RELEASED: August 2019 GENRE: Psychedelic Pop/Rock BIO: Hailing from the big apple, singer-songwriter
Lana Del Rey's music career really blew up from 2011 with the success of the singles Video Games and a remix hit of Summertime Sadness. You might remember she featured on The Great Gatsby soundtrack with Young and Beautiful. NFR is Lana's 6th album release.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Beautiful songs. Whimsical, eerie, delicate, captivating - all those kind of adjectives.
WHAT WE LIKE: Words can't always do the music
justice. It's a little melancholy, a little sad. But it is beautiful lyrics, creative arrangements, and imaginative soundtrack-like layers that capture the artist at work. The trick is to make yourself open and vulnerable to Lana, and surrender yourself to the music. Her spin on Gershwin's classic Summertime crossed with Sublime’s rework of the same composition on Doin' Time is no disappointment. Don’t be fooled by the cover, the rest of the tracks really show off the authentic talents under her command. The blends of rock, soul, beats, ballads, and piano make an unmistakably unique sound. A splendid, elegant record.
STANDOUT TRACKS:
- The Greatest, Doin' Time, Happiness is a Butterfly
PERFECT FOR: Slowing the heart rate and sitting still. Romantic dances in the kitchen with your lover.
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Lykke Li, Florence and the Machine, Sia, Santigold

DEAR KEENWA, Spring. I wanna get clean, man. I've tried 80/20, the SIBO diet, parasite cleanse, liver detox, paleo eating, vegan, and a lot of celery juice. Then more celery juice. I still don't feel pure. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. - Healing Harry
DEAR HEALING HARRY,
MASSAGE/REIKI/REFLEXOLOGISTS THERAPISTS
Raising Vibrations is looking for qualified Massage/Reiki/ Reflexologists therapists to come join our healing rooms in central Byron Bay. Work your own business with us, room rent $100 a day, and negotiable if you would like more days. Please call Jo 0415 579 163
September is Virgo season which is season of the virgin. Do you see where i'm going with this? Luckily for you, the ancient meaning of the word had nothing to do with our sexual practices (or lack of). Esther Harding said that,"the woman who is virgin, one-inherself, does what she does-not because of any desire to please, not to be liked, or to be approved, …not because of any desire to gain power over another, to catch his interest or love, but because what she does is true...” I'm sure she wouldn't mind if we make this definition non-binary.
DEAR KEENWA, A few months ago I started swimming laps at Byron Pool. You should see my rig! Anyway I keep seeing the same chick, no matter what time I go – evening, morning, post-kombucha, pre-meditation. She's there. Then I started seeing her at the supermarket. Then at yoga. I'm not even into her I don't think, yet she's everywhere. Is the universe trying to tell me something? - Divine Timing
DEAR DIVINE TIMING, Jung would define synchronicity as that which holds that events are "meaningful coincidences" if they occur with no causal relationship, yet seem to be meaningfully related. In saying that, some of us are stalkers, and some of us work at local pools. Only you know bro. I like to turn to film for archetypal guidance or tightass cheap psychology when in doubt. Which character from these stories do you most identify with right now? Cafe de Flore? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sliding Doors, or Single White Female?

HOW DOES A WELL-BUILT AND DESIGNED BUILDING AFFECT OUR DAILY LIFE? When we feel good in our environment and our spaces we are more creative… we are more likely better at jokes, more imaginative, and ultimately more connected to each other. Designing places that people love to be in and to enhance the human experience is what gets me out of bed in the morning.. YOU ARE CO-ORDINATING THE BYRON GALLERY WALL THAT WILL BE PAINTED ON SAT OCT 19TH. WHAT'S THE VISION? It's an opportunity for creatives and artists to get together and collectively volunteer their talents to say something that matters. The wall will showcase 14 mural pieces side by side, to express environmental and/or political thought pieces, and add to the vibrancy of the BA & IE and future master plan. HOW CAN LOCAL ARTISTS OR THE COMMUNITY GET INVOLVED? Jump onto the website and send us an email. This is free expression so it’s first in best dressed! Applications close on Monday 30th Sep. IN A TERRITORIAL STANDOFF BETWEEN BRUSH TURKEYS AND GARDEN GNOMES WHO WOULD WIN AND WHY? Turkeys by day, garden gnomes by night (you can’t trust the gnomes at night).
