follow AFL football, but last week was grand final weekend. The Richmond Tigers, a proud old club, took on the GWS Giants – a newly formed and exciting young team. A close game had been expected, but the Tigers demolished the Giants. This was a football lesson – a spanking. Commentators and fans marveled at Richmond’s combination of youthful exuberance, wise old heads and creative use of unknown players. Away from the football field, this combination of youth and experience is something we all possess – in our own bodies. These bodies are the real marvels – a staggeringly complex team of cellular parts. Each cell structure plays a different role in the team, with its own unique skill set, age profile and use by date. We regenerate the team by replacing old players with new ones. Our overworked centerline, the cells of our stomach, last only five days before they are replaced. Our roving red blood cells travel thousands of kilometers through our arteries and veins before we refresh them every four months or so. Our biggest player, our skin, is recycled every two weeks, and Doctor Liver can purify and detoxify us for only 18 months without needing the body’s medical support (some of us need liver treatment a bit more regularly than that!). Even our spine is dissolved and rebuilt, so that almost no bones ever qualify for the 10 year club. Amazing.

Unlike the premiership winning Tigers, not all of our key players can be rested. Our brain is a live wire, firing off neurons, making connections, building teams, and enabling learning - but cell replacement is not an option. And our heart, a club stalwart and tireless worker, eventually runs itself into the ground, to be carried off the field of play – taking the rest of us with it. But it doesn’t end there. A key player may retire, a team may grow stale, but the club must play on. Rebuilding commences when we share our cells, and our selves, with another, so that a small part of us forms the nucleus of a new team. It’s a miracle! This weekend, whether you’re watching the NRL final, taking in some tunes, or blending martinis in the club or at home – channel the Tigers, renew and revitalize, shake or stir - and of course, stay chilled. This week's mantra
YOUR SELF-DOUBT SERVES NO ONE.
Hello dear reader! Yes, it’s still me! Same column, new name. Heavily Meditated is now Word Up. Why? I have a book called Heavily Meditated coming out in March (about, yes, meditation!) So it was time to give the column a new name. I hope these weekly words will continue to UPgrade your vibe. Big love, CC
Your job is not to judge what you have to share. Your job is not to struggle against your gifts or try to sort and label them accurately. Your job is not to silently whisper the word "imposter" enough times until you finally start to believe it. Your job is not to withhold or second-guess or doubt whether what you have is good enough. Your job is just to share what you have to share. To be a good steward of your gifts. So stop judging your gifts and start sharing them. Because, if you believe that your gifts are actually gifts - a stream from the infinite, a treasure loaned to you for this lifetime by the divine, then who are you NOT to share what you have? Sharing your gifts with the world is in service to the divine. You are a vessel, a channel, a note in the symphony of the universe expressing itself. When you stifle that natural flow (yes! it is natural!) with the question, "who am I..." you stomp on the seeds of providence. So stop stomping. Stop sitting on your inheritance of inborn divinity. Stop stagnating the flow of miraculousness within you. Stop doubting your worthiness. Stop stopping yourself. Stop asking "who am I to...?" Instead, ask yourself, "who am I not to...?" Your self-doubt serves no one. Sharing your gifts can serve many. So get out here! Be bold. Be brave. Be audacious. Be of service. Be generous. Share your little dash of infinity and divinity. Offer up your gifts. Because they are divine. And who are you not to?

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
ON THURSDAY MERCURY, THE PLANET THAT
represents communication and the intellect, moves into the deep, watery and often silent realm of Scorpio. Here he is determined to get to the bottom of any issue, which might take a while! Therefore he is going to have another retrograde sojourn through Scorpio in early November and only move on into Sagittarius by late November. On Friday Mars, the planet that carries the male, active and outgoing energy of the warrior archetype, moves into the peacekeeping Libra constellation where he resides until mid-November. Mars might get quite frustrated here. He has to mentally weigh up his impulses and reactions, which may deflate his energy. There is plenty of time to reconsider and re-evaluate situations and ideas. Maybe for a while our world will not be so fastpaced but we might have to deal with a lot of doubt. Monday and Tuesday can turn out to be quite challenging days. Mercury opposes Uranus on Monday and communication may be erratic or even non-existent! On Tuesday a Sun/ Saturn square might compound certain problems. Many of us may have to deal with the fall-out of an overly inflated or deflated ego. Lady Venus moves into the deep emotional and strongly protected waters of Scorpio on Wednesday. Until the end of this month she wears a rather mysterious, but secretly very passionate cloak. Daylight saving starts on Sunday morning, so make sure to turn your clock forward one hour. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The 9 of Swords indicates a rather negative state of mind that impacts heavily on how you experience yourself and the world around you. Doubt and serious judgement of yourself or your nearest and dearest may be the main issues here. Adopting a physical work-out routine might be your saviour.
h TAURUS
The 10 of Cups promises an emotionally fulfilling week. Your obvious satisfaction and well-being can be felt by anyone who comes in contact with you. It ripples out into the community as an inspiration for all. You might be able to teach others by example how to count their blessings and apply gratitude to any situation.
i GEMINI
The 7 of Cups describes the negative impact that overindulging patterns may have on your wellbeing. Overdoing and overusing can take many forms, e.g. over-eating, - thinking, - working, - shopping or anything else you do that deters you from your most true feelings. Find out what is your predominant avoidance pattern and ponder what would happen if you change it?
j CANCER
The 9 of Wands represents great perseverance, stamina and resilience. Equipped with these you may navigate the deep emotional waters of this week in such a way that you actually feel invigorated! This is also a great time to lend some of your strength and a guiding hand to others.
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Fortune Tarot card reveals an opportunity or turning point. The more flexible you stay with your responses to everyday situations the greater is the perspective you gain and the more choices you have available. True expansion and empowerment are possible right now! However habitual ways of doing things won’t bring you any insights or ‘aha’ moments.
l VIRGO
With the Priestess Tarot card drawn it is time to withdraw from too much involvement in worldly affairs. Allow yourself to retreat into nature, find your power spot there and listen to your true inner guidance, which does not judge and condone, but comes from heartfelt acceptance of what is.
a LIBRA
c SAGITTARIUS
The 2 of Cups symbolises love, not as a philosophical concept or a romantic ideal, but rather as a way of acting and reacting to the challenges of life. It is about the loving care you give to yourself and others, the nurturing and healing of relationships and the constant moving towards love in every situation.
d CAPRICORN
The Knight of Wands is the bringer of change. He sweeps away your old, out-dated beliefs about yourself and broadens your scope and horizons with newly-found confidence and courage. With him by your side you are ready for a leap of faith into uncharted territory and you become quite adventurous indeed.
e AQUARIUS
Just like last week, the 6 of Wands appears! Success and victory come easily right now, but don’t waste any opportunity for real spiritual and emotional growth by getting hung up on pride or personal importance which only create separation. Focus on win-win situations and inclusiveness.
The Sun Tarot card shines her brilliant light onto your path and illuminates you in your quest for understanding the human condition. You feel free, energised and expansive, and you have so much to give… You may experience an intellectual breakthrough or you might just enjoy simple pleasures in a child-like, innocent way.
b SCORPIO
f PISCES
The Hierophant Tarot card describes the need for spiritual self-guidance. It increases your understanding and acceptance of why people do the things they do. Since you can’t change them, all you can do is learn how to choose your response consciously. The challenge is to walk the spiritual path with practical feet.
With the 2 of Swords drawn you may hesitate about making any bigger decisions. You prefer to keep sitting on the fence, but it does not bring you the peace of mind that you are seeking. This is the week to explore alternative ideas and seek new perspectives, rather than just treading water.

BOOKS FOR Y
This week's review
TITLE: Frankissstein: A Love Story AUTHOR: Jeanette Winterson NUMBER OF PAGES: 352 EST. READ TIME: 6 hours 58 minutes PRICE: $24.80 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? In 1816 Mary Shelley is on a trip to
Switzerland with her husband and friends when she is struck by a story she must write, Frankenstein. But this is merely the backdrop for Jeanette Winterson’s futuristic novel. Through alternating character’s perspectives we follow Ry, a transgender doctor who is falling in love with Professor Stein, an Elon Muskesque professor obsessed with the future of AI. Flitting between the two time periods we are asked the question: What makes us human? And what does our future hold when technology and imagination exceeds our wildest dreams?
WHO IT'S FOR: If you are a literary geek then you will appreciate the nod to the history of how Frankenstein came to be. But if you don’t have any prior knowledge of Frankenstein I think you’d still enjoy the story.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: This was one of the wildest
books I’ve read in 2019. I love being challenged and nudged to be swept up by inventive storytelling. Like Mary Shelley, Jeanette Winterson seems to have had a crazy dream one night that she’s turned into an audacious book. If you want to sit back, leave your expectations at the door and enjoy the ride then this is the novel for you.
NOTABLE QUOTE: "Humankind cannot bear very much
reality. That is why we invent stories, I said. And what if we are the story we invent? He said."

This week's recommendation
ALBUM TITLE: Hypersonic Missiles ARTIST: Sam Fender RELEASED: September 2019 GENRE: Rock / Indie BIO: Hailed by many as the Geordie Springsteen, Sam Fender's debut album follows recent gigs at Splendour, Melbourne and Sydney. After catching a number of awards in recent years the singersongwriter has his Google map set toward the Rock n' Roll hall of fame. Expectations.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Inevitable comparisons with New
Jersey's favourite rockstar, 'the boss' but Sam is neither Jersey nor Geordie Shore. His heartfelt music, gritty lyrics, beating drums, and swirling guitars are the sound topped with a tribute to the saxophone of Clarence Clemons of The E-Street Band. Expect to feel the pain that is the inspiration for the music.
WHAT WE LIKE: It's raw, and not faultless but true
perfection has imperfection. It captures the salty, steely grey outlook of his hometown, North Shields' (Newcastle, UK) social problems of the haves and the have nots. Box ticked for human empathy cos we all have a hometown - some want to see more of the world, some do, some don't, some can't. Sam casts his net beyond his hometown's shores singing about Brexit, the Middle East, white privilege, suicides, disengaged generations, waiting for the weekend and hometown life. For many music is an outlet, a release, the sunshine and good vibes in the rain. Release found. Music with meaning is what we like, need and want. Sam delivers it - like a boss.
STANDOUT TRACKS:
- White Privilege, That Sound, Will We Talk?.
PERFECT FOR: Channelling your inner hometown hero. LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Bruce Springsteen, Stereophonics, Foals, The Verve.

DEAR KEENWA, My missus calls herself a feminist. She's always yapping on about breaking down patriarchy, and reclaiming her body and the female gaze. Who dat? - Man Of Womyn
DEAR MAN OF WOMYN, You know how you walk comfortably out in the world without being mobbed with hands and comments from strangers about how sexy, beautiful, ugly, attainable, rootable, fertile, or relatable you are? It is not like that for your girlfriend. The female gaze is about using cinema and art to change the cultural narrative, by bringing stories of how it feels to be in a woman's skin, and the complexities of her inner world; as opposed to objectifying or valuing her on what she looks like, which is how she is viewed mostly through the eyes of predominantly white, cis men. You'll have to wait until next week to ask me what cis means as i'm out of word space.
DEAR KEENWA, I love school holidays! My kids may be killing one another, and all my savings have gone on circus workshops and organic snacks in an attempt to prevent them from killing each other, and I am unable to make more money because we live in an era where childcare mostly falls on the shoulders of under-supported mothers, but...i don't have to sit in that Byron traffic twice a day. Hurray! The month leading up to the holidays I had taken stress leave because of it. Any tips on how to ease back into it next week? - Holiraves
DEAR HOLIRAVES, I think we can all take a page out of local Shire legend, Shanti's book for this one. Get you and the fam some kickass vintage suits (preferably twinset matching). Hit the pavement on foot each school morning and afternoon, with big smiles, and stick your thumbs out.

Michael Stiegler ARTIST - @STIEGLERARTIST
YOU’RE AN AUSTRALIAN BORN NEW YORK ARTIST AND PHOTOGRAPHER, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU AT YOUR BYRON LONE GOAT EXHIBITION? A mix of my styles for my first solo show in Australia. Featuring a mix of my illustrations, screenprints and collages. All tied together by fashion and music, which have influenced all my works. This curation features screen prints of photos of Kate Moss, originally taken of her in Byron Bay. Which brings my art full circle, linking my time in New York to Byron Bay, hence the title of the show ‘On Bowery’. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF PUBLIC/STREET ART AROUND BYRON IN COMPARISON TO NYC? Can’t really compare, different level.
LOOKING FOR STAFF? WE CAN HELP!
ANY NOTABLE COLLABS OUR READERS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT? I’ve collaborated with another Australian artist, Dina Broadhurst. She’s known for her collage artworks. There will be one of our collab pieces featured in the Lone Goat show. FORMALLY TRAINED OR SELF-TAUGHT? WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK? Self-taught. The streets of New York City. WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST LESSONS (ART OR LIFE) YOU LEARNED LIVING IN NYC? There is no such thing as perfection and there is no wrong. It's one place you can be whatever you like and still feel at home. YOU ARE OFF TO A FANCY DRESS PARTY, WHO ARE YOU DRESSED AS? Myself, just fancier.
IF YOU DON'T FIND A STAFF MEMBER WITHIN 2 WEEKS, WE WILL RUN THIRD WEEK FREE OF CHARGE BOOKING DEADLINE - MIDNIGHT MONDAY - PUBLISHED THURSDAY
To book call 0487 003 765 or email hello@byronbazaar.com
IN A TERRITORIAL STANDOFF BETWEEN BRUSH TURKEYS AND GARDEN GNOMES WHO WOULD WIN AND WHY? Brush turkeys. They’re crazy. WHAT DOES BYRON NEED MORE OR LESS OFF? More roundabouts, less influencers. CAN YOU SUM UP YOUR WORK IN ONE WORD? Playful. Don't miss it. Michael Stiegler's On Bowery exhibition opening night is 6 pm to 8 pm this Friday 4th Oct at the Lone Goat Gallery, Lawson St. The exhibit runs to Oct 29th.
