Can you remember when beers cost $5? Me neither. But on Friday Byron Bay Brewery will be bringing back the good times with $5 schooies of their Premium Larger all evening in celebration of the brewery’s rebrand, with DZ Deathrays, PLTS, Flying Machine, Fiona Franklin and Vinyl Richie providing the tunes. On Saturday, Bruns Bakery will be hosting its third annual (and curiously misspelled) Donut Float in support of the Bruns Surf Life Saving Club. Buy your ticket from the bakery website ($25, brunsbakery.com.au) and collect your yellow inflatable doughnut at Banner Park between 8:30am and 10:15am, ready to float your heart out for a good cause from 10:30am.

ROSEANNE BARR IS A SOMEWHAT CAUSTIC COMEDIAN. LIKE
many comics, she has made a living out of laughing at others. She once said, “I think I’m a pretty good judge of people, which is why I hate most of them”. Lily Tomlin’s jokes can be a bit funnier, a bit kinder, but she also has her doubts about people, “I personally think we developed language because of our deep need to complain.” I’m sure there’ve been times when we could all agree with these ladies. As a young man, my perceived good judgement of people led me to dislike a few. At work, the water cooler became the place to meet for a corporate whinge, and Complaints Departments are now so large, companies have to outsource them to other parts of the world. The new PC terminology may be “customer service” or “client experience” teams, but whatever they’re called, it is complaints they spend most of their time on. Very few customers wait on the phone to deliver thankyous and good wishes. But it doesn’t have to be so. Like you, I have an advantage over Roseanne and Lily – we found our way to Byron Bay. If they had made the trip, they too would have found a community with the highest level of volunteering per head of population of anywhere in the world (that’s a complete guess, but it does feel like it could be true). I am amazed at the number of community groups who contact us at the Bazaar every week, with information about free services, events, fund raisers, help. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. True, you can still hear plenty of complaints if you want to focus on that, but it is balanced out by the smiles and happy faces you see everywhere, every day. We have a motto at the Bazaar – if it’s not good news, let someone else print it! That’s why we recommend books to read or music to listen to, rather than offer critiques. There’s just too many good books, too much good music, to waste our time, or yours, on critical reviews. You might not agree with our assessment, but the important thing is our reviewers liked it, and so it is written with love. Our team members will be out this Thursday, delivering the Bazaar with love and a smile. Whether you’re grabbing your mag, ordering your soy latte and blueberry muffin, or a second round of Stone & Wood, give the person serving you a smile – I guarantee you’ll get a smile back! It’s how we all stay chilled! Tony, Byron Bazaar

This week's mantra
"I FORGIVE MYSELF" IS A REVOLUTION IN 3 WORDS. Self-forgiveness is a rebellion against the misery of perfectionism. Self-forgiveness re-volves you to a new perspective and a fresh start. Self-forgiveness is the reclamation of your agency over your life, your power and your freedom. And the more readily we are able to forgive ourselves, the more compassion, forgiveness and kindness we are able to extend to others.
VOLUNTEER BEACH SURVEY OFFICERS
Positive Change for Marine Life are seeking volunteer Beach Survey Officers to help coordinate fortnightly beach cleans and data collation. Visit PCFML.ORG.AU and click “TAKE ACTION” for more information.
So start a revolution in your heart with these three words: I forgive myself. For whatever you've done or haven't done. Whatever perceived failures or shortcomings. However many missteps or misspoken words. You are always deserving of your own forgiveness. And self-forgiveness is always the path back to wholeness. This life is a practice. Of coming home to ourselves. Of forgiving ourselves. Of blessing ourselves. Over and over again.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THURSDAY IS A HUGE DAY! MERCURY AND
the Sun are prominent and the creative potential soars to great heights due to a very potent combination of diligence and artistic flair. This can be an extremely productive day. Mercury forms amicable sextiles to Saturn and Neptune, making sure there is enough stamina but also vision. The Sun sextiles Pluto and adds determination and enough get up and go to move mountains or create new realities. On Friday a Venus/Neptune square brings out the dreamer in many of us and it is easy to fall for unrealistic expectations and get trapped in romantic or illusory what-if scenarios. During the weekend the Moon in Cancer is dominant. Looking after home and garden and maybe having friends or family over for a meal may be very satisfying or even healing. On Tuesday Mars slips into passionate but private and secretive Scorpio where he resides for the rest of the year. Sun and retrograde Mercury are already in Scorpio. Investigation, deep probing and finding out ‘the truth’ is the main preoccupation. On Wednesday you might be able to uncover some fascinating twists, turns and undercurrents. Mars is also preparing for a gigantic opposition to Uranus, the mover and shaker of the zodiac (exact next Monday). All this happens while Mercury, the messenger is hardly moving at all until next week. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

A great week ahead for you! The 9 of Wands offers resilience, stamina and perseverance. They are invigorating and help you to keep up the pace so you can reach what you set out for. Therefore this is a great time to manifest your vision, while there is a great interplay between your emotional, mental and physical strengths.
h TAURUS
The Star Tarot card suggests an easy flow of energy and wellbeing this week. There are plenty of creative inspirations that may be realised in a project that reflects your inner equilibrium and sense of aesthetics. Even if you just sit back and relax you are spreading the good vibes.
i GEMINI
The 3 of Swords symbolises heartbreak and emotional pain. Whether you feel as though it is inflicted upon you, or self-created out of inner discord and tension, your best way out is to focus on recovery. Start with five things you are grateful for every morning, to set the pace for positive reinforcement.
j CANCER
With the Balance Tarot card drawn your quest for honesty, truth and ethical principles drives you to carefully weigh all sides of an issue. You also have to concentrate on realistic, practical and longterm solutions, therefore take your time and don’t let others rush you to make decisions.

The Hermit Tarot card suggests withdrawing from social activities or distractions, and focusing on introspection instead. As you retreat into your own private sphere you may realise how energising a bit of solitude can be and how easily you find the answers you are looking for within.
The 6 of Disks promises great success this week. Thursday is an important day; you can accomplish much without excessive effort. All you need is to stay flexible in your approach, act with authority and in good faith. You may also be called to assist others as advisor or mentor which you might enjoy immensely.
a LIBRA
When the Death Tarot card appears you don’t have much time to contemplate your choices. It is all about allowing profound changes to take place and transform what does not serve you any longer. The more you resist, the more the pain will persist. If you let go, rebirth follows quickly.
b SCORPIO
The Prince of Swords’ mission is to understand his own motivations, belief-systems, habits and compulsion. His awareness provides him with a bird’s-eye view. With him by your side your mind is clear and liberated from old patterns. Because you apply a general dose of ‘cando’ attitude you make better choices and get better results.
The Chariot Tarot card heralds a fresh beginning. This is a week where nothing can distract you from your mission. Naturally you achieve your goals and you create new realities. In case you encounter any obstacles you’ll assert your will and individual freedom loud and clear.
The only point of advantage the Hanged Man Tarot card offers is a new perspective, which is achieved by simply hanging upside down. If you relax into it, total surrender is possible and assists you in perceiving your reality from a new angle. The insights gained reduce the struggle and bring inner peace.
e AQUARIUS
The Knight of Swords is ambitious and in a hurry to get where he wants to be. He easily forgets that most times in life, the journey is more important than the destination. With Mercury, the planet representing the mind and travel in retrograde motion, you might have to hold your horses or take some detours. So try to be more patient!
f PISCES
The World Tarot card offers a very positive and optimistic world-view. Suddenly things look promising and you may feel liberated from old visions or versions of yourself. This can be a highly creative week, so use your gifts and talents wisely to create the best outcomes possible.

DEAR KEENWA, I'm in a relationship with a serial texter. I'm not sure if he's cute or obsessive. How will I know? Like how many times a day is too many? - Love Bytes
DEAR LOVE BYTES, The average 18-44 year old sends between 52-128 texts per day! I'm old school, but anything that calls me to a screen is interrupting my flow with life. Also, if he can't respect your time, what else won't he respect? The way to know if he's avoiding real life intimacy, could be that next time you're thumb deep in a text battle, give him an actual call a-la #housephone style, and see if he answers. If he doesn't, he's most likely wanting to keep you at a distance, has no intention to meet, and is more interested in satiating his own boring loneliness. Hot tip – not your problem.
DEAR KEENWA, I am so happy on my own. But... society says the quality of my life is determined by the quality of my relationships. I relate well... to plants, animals, and other non-demanding, quiet modes of communication. Is it okay to own my recluse status, or must I conform? - Hiding in the Hills
DEAR HIDING IN THE HILLS, Yai, yai, yai. Human relating. What a shit show. It sure is a war zone out there. The way I see it, there are those destined to be at the coal face, and do the hard yakka of one on one moving through ancestral karma, and sacred contracts. Then there are some of us whom are meant to live in caves, raising the collective vibe from there in meditation, and solitude, having a laugh at those in the thick of it. Not sure if we get to choose or not. Will go and meditate upon it.

This week's recommendation
ALBUM TITLE: Western Stars – Film Version ARTIST: Bruce Springsteen RELEASED: Oct 2019 GENRE: Country / Orchestral / Rock BIO: Recently Bruce received a Presidential Medal of
Freedom from Barrack Obama, had a hit theatre show with Springsteen on Broadway before releasing the studio album, Western Stars, in June this year.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The Western Stars – Film Version
album features recordings from Bruce’s live audience performance at his 100-year-old barn with a full orchestra and backing band. It accompanies the film of the same title, Bruce’s directorial debut. Cameron Bailey from the Toronto Film Festival describes the character of “this fading Western movie B-level star who's looking back on his life and the decisions he's made” as central to the material.
WHAT WE LIKE: Accomplished storytelling from an
artist consistently at the peak of his 50ish year career. Fans will find the shift in style from rock to country beautiful, masterful and intimate. Lyrics explore the well-walked paths of the American West, our struggles and reflections, and a tenacious spirit to keep on truckin’ life’s highways. The opening track Hitch Hikin’ talks of the great unknown, of what stories might be told between strangers on the road. A familiar subject yes, that unites Bruce, music and in true 'boss' way. An anthemic cover of Rhinestone Cowboy, the popular song about a musician achieving success despite his struggles, that is not included in the studio album, is a fitting final track.
STANDOUT TRACKS: Hitch Hikin’, Sundown, Hello Sunshine. PERFECT FOR: Road trippin’ across the USA. Tales by the campfire. Shooting stars.
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: MTV Unplugged, Bob Dylan, Zac Brown Band Recommended by Dan McGill.

BOOKS FOR Y
This week's review
TITLE: The Favourite Sister AUTHOR: Jessica Knoll NUMBER OF PAGES: 400 EST. READ TIME: 9 hours 3 minutes PRICE: $24.75 WHAT'S IT ABOUT? When five successful women are
catapulted into fame in a TV reality series Goal Diggers their lives become intertwined with one another. And like, The Real Housewives franchise, the show becomes uber popular thrusting the women’s drama, both personal and professional, into the spotlight. Kelly and Brett are sisters in business together. But Brett has been the only sister who has featured on the show, until now. When a trip to Morocco is offered to the women as a storyline for the show they will travel together as five, only to return back home with one less cast member. What happens on their trip will have them forever questioning what their reality actually is.
WHO IT'S FOR: Anyone who watches The Real Housewives franchise will experience an added layer of enjoyment reading this book as you will be familiar with the clever producing tricks and the extent these reality shows will go to to create drama.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: This is a great Summer
beach read. Take it on holiday with you. It was fun and had me guessing the whole time as to what was going to happen, and how these women would crack under the pressure of the public eye.
NOTABLE QUOTE: "Only now, it feels like instead of
pretending to be in a fight, we’re pretending to be friends. In my wildest dreams I never would have imagined that the fight would become real and the friendship the charade."

MANBAGGERY - MARK SWIVEL AND FRIENDS.
A Night of Story Telling and Music to raise funds for Barefoot Law (DV and homeless clients) Drill Hall Theatre, Mullumbimby, Monday 2 December 2019 “What stories should we tell? That’s the question at the heart of Manbaggery. On one level it’s a warm-hearted response to an ex-wife’s memoir, on another a fond remembering of an old mate who died from motor neurone disease. Manbaggery is a story of loving and dying, the communities we live in ... and the stories we choose to tell. It’ll be funny and warm, loving and heartbreaking. Trust me, I’m a lawyer”. - Mark Swivel. Mark is joined by Smokey Fields and his mates James Dods and Mat Gulliford doing their Woodstock Revisited show. Doors and food from 6pm. Show at 7pm. Smokey Fields and Friends Manbaggery – 8pm-9pm To book donate at least $20 and put your name in the Reference here: https://mdnc.org.au/donate-womens-resource-services/. Limited tix at the door.

Martin Johnston CARPENTER @MARTIN_JOHNSTON_
FIRSTLY, MARTIN OR MARTY? Depends if I'm in trouble or not, so yeah, 40% of the time people call me Marty. TELL US WHERE YOU ARE FROM? I was lucky enough to be born and raised here in the Shire. I went to Bruns Primary, Mullum High and have great memories growing up around Billinudgel. The shire has changed so much, but maintained its charm, and that's something to be proud of. I can still remember the mad Texan who bought half of Billinudgel and turned it into the new industrial estate called "el dorado". Most people don't know the south part of Billi is actually called that, but I think it's hilarious. YOU ARE A SKILLED CABINET MAKER – WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR CRAFT? I grew up watching Dad work with timber and hand tools, so I’m a second-generation cabinet maker. I learnt the value of true craftsmanship and bespoke woodwork, working right here at home. ARE DOVETAIL JOINTS STILL USED, OR HAS GLUE MADE THAT SKILL REDUNDANT? If the design calls for it, a dovetail joint is the only option! COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE – "I LOVE... all types of wood." IF YOU WENT TO A FANCY-DRESS PARTY, WHO WOULD YOU GO AS, AND WHY? I love dress up parties, but I haven't been to one for ages! That's probably a good thing, because I usually turn into the animal I'm dressed up as. BYRON IS RENOWNED FOR ITS WILD TURKEYS - HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ASKED TO BUILD AN AVIARY? Brush turkeys were here first and shouldn't be caged. I'd rather put ScoMo in one! HAS THE COST OF SANDPAPER GONE UP, NOW THAT THE CRICKET SEASON HAS STARTED? No, but if Steve Smith and Dave Warner are looking for work, I'm currently looking for a new polisher. WHERE CAN PEOPLE SEE YOUR WORK? Barrio, Habitat, Fleet, Allpress Byron and Brissy. A lot of my work goes into the beautiful homes around the area and we love people visiting the workshop too, so come in and say hi!
