Over at the Mullumbimby Leagues Club from 5 pm Saturday it’s the Mullum at Night Craft Beer & Street Food Gathering. Kids are covered with a bouncy castle and face-painting, big kids can grab a Stone & Wood whilst wandering the eclectic market and food stalls. With live music and funds being raised for mental health organisations it sounds like a great way to bring everyone together. Also on Saturday from 7 pm, Marvel Hall hosts Paco Lara with his musical entourage, for a night of world-class flamenco guitar as Paco presents his new album, The Andalusian Guitar. With Spanish omelette, tapas, sangria and beers on the go, why not grab some tix at trybooking.com This week Splendour in the Grass announced their 2020 line-up and local residents with postcodes from 2478 to 2490 can pretty much guarantee themselves a ticket before the general release. The annual Local’s Sale runs from 10 am to 4 pm Sunday at The Northern Hotel. For festival tix you’ll need to set up a moshtix.com.au account beforehand and pay via Visa or MasterCard. Hit the centrefold for the lineup, and for more info, enquire via answers@splendourinthegrass.com Moving ahead into next week now for Caitlin Cady’s Heavily Meditated book launch party on Thursday 27th February, 5:30 pm at Nikau Showroom. I
WAS
UNSTACKING
THE
DISHWASHER
ON
SATURDAY,
and there they were again – wet plastic containers and red hot ceramic plates. What’s going on? Am I picking the wrong setting - the “don’t dry the plastics” energy saving setting? Surely there must be a solution to this problem - I’ve been living with it for too long. A recent headline in an Apple News article suggested an explanation - something about Tupperware and its inherent heat resistant qualities. Modern dishwashers super-heat cold water to wash the dishes - one of their energy efficiency qualities. That heat is then retained in the dishwasher to help dry the dishes – making tea towels redundant. Whilst the metal pots, cutlery and ceramic plates are excellent at holding and using that heat, plastic doesn’t. The cooler Tupperware just collects all the condensed water, and stays wet. Science 101. What makes plastics good in the microwave, makes them bad in the dishwasher. I don’t remember Mum telling me that when she was a Tupperware sales lady, back in the 1970’s. She did tell us all about Mr. Tupper and his remarkable plastic dishes. Earl Tupper (1907 – 1983) was an American businessman who accidently invented Tupperware, after finding a use for the polyethylene slag that was a waste product of oil refining processes. Tupper purified the slag and moulded it to create lightweight, non-breakable containers. Once he worked out how to make airtight lids that could seal in freshness, his future fortune was assured. His business also gave birth to the Tupperware home party sales method – a step up for the Avon Lady. Party plan sales proved to be very popular, and multi-level marketing (MLM) was the next step – think Holiday Magic, Swipe, Amway, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Herbalife and Isagenix. This sales approach has unfortunately morphed into the slightly unethical practice of pyramid selling – but let’s not blame Mr. Tupper for that. Just as Tupperware and MLM have gone from heroes to villains over the last 20 years, modern-day living has itself become a byword for wasteful energy use. Pre-rinsing plates and hand drying plastics are just two more in a long line of energy inefficient practices that must be stamped out. Tupperware must go the way of single use plastic supermarket bags, plastic straws, disposable coffee cups, petrol cars, jet aeroplanes, vinyl records, full sugar Coke and George Calombaris. I hope Greta knows what she is doing! I’m sorry, I will give up the pre-rinse, but Tupperware is a birth right. Please don’t think too badly of me. Let’s all chill out as we dry out this week. Tony, Byron Bazaar

This week's mantra
DANCE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART. Fear and courage are steady companions, but only one can be in charge at a time. So who is running shit in your life most of the time? Your head or your heart? Don’t get me wrong. The mind is very useful for weighing and measuring, for charting a path, for carving the loose and obtuse visions of the heart into something refined and real. But take care not to let the mind bully your heart into stunned submission. Do not let the paranoid rampaging of the mind trample the goodness and hope in your heart. The mind is welcome for its insights and protective directives, but should never be given the power to veto the truth in your heart. Because the heart - not the mind - is the seat of the courage and the speaker of the soul. You attune to the mission of your soul not by heeding every brassy, bossy thought issued by the mind, but by heeding the low, soft guidance of your heart. Your heart - even now - beats out the steady anthem of your soul, cheering you on. So get out of your head and into your heart. Live from that place. Dance to that beat. Listen to the wise council of your cells, singing their resonance or rejection. Trust yourself. Dance this life to your heart beat.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
A VERY BENEVOLENT JUPITER / NEPTUNE
sextile is exact on Friday. The combination of these two giant planets comes as an inspiration to think and dream big. From this place of expansion it is possible to craft a practical step-bystep path to finding more fulfilment. An inventive Mars/Uranus trine plus a Sun/Uranus sextile support this mission and add a bit of extra sparkle. Therefore take a bit of time on Friday or during the weekend to visualise your preferred future and believe in your ability to manifest it. Graced with an accumulation of planets in Capricorn (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto) and in Pisces (Sun, Mercury retrograde and Neptune), this is the perfect time to reassess where you are at, where you want to be and how you are going to get there! Monday’s New Moon, also in Pisces, is amplified by Venus in Aries square to Jupiter. The longing for something different might be quite overwhelming, and the emotional tide is extremely high! If you experience dissatisfaction it can be used as fuel to propel you into the right direction. This is a great time to revise and reconsider any creative project that has lost momentum. Practical considerations and visionary ideals must find a new, workable synthesis, but not all ideas will stand the test of time… Wednesday could be a difficult or particularly frustrating day; compassion with yourself and others is the key. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The 3 of Wands suggests that the best strategy to navigate the deep currents of this week is taking the high road. Your values, ethics and integrity help you to move beyond reactivity and towards more rewarding choices about how to respond to any situation, in particular to undesirable ones.
h TAURUS
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Ace of Swords symbolises the big gift of mental clarity which cuts through confusion and doubt. This week you may be able to resolve a difficult situation by adopting a higher perspective that gives you the insights you seek. From this place you know what is right, just and ethical.
l VIRGO
The 2 of Cups inspires the quest for more unconditional love towards yourself and others, but it may also make you acutely aware of the difficulties of getting there. In any moment of stress, tension or frustration, breathe deeply into your heart and ask yourself what love would do.
The Tower Tarot card appears when sudden upheaval creates chaos in your life. The resulting crisis grows out of proportion if you are consumed by resentment and resistance. What would happen if you let go, and go with the flow? Maybe soon you’ll find the silver lining that this wake-up-call provides.
i GEMINI
a LIBRA
With the 5 of Swords drawn your overactive mind might be trapped in a quite pessimistic outlook this week, which is quite contrary to the current astro flavour. Maybe a recent experience activated some old fears that keep your emotions stuck in the past. Try to practice gratitude for all the things that are working out for you right now.
j CANCER
The World Tarot card is all about integrating your latest insights into your new perspective. You may feel quite optimistic and ready for the next chapter in your life. If you use your gifts and talents wisely, great innovative productivity and also a lot of fun can be yours, while you build the new world you want to live in.
The Ace of Disks provides security and stability; it allows you to sit back, take stock and evaluate the results of your past efforts. The success you reap right now and the wellbeing that you experience because of it, boost you confidence and confirm that you are on the right path.
b SCORPIO
Just like last week the 6 of Swords is drawn! How are you moving on, and are you overcoming difficulties in communication and coordination with others? Consider new ideas and innovative ways to bring people of differing convictions closer to each other, rather than unconsciously creating a greater divide.
c SAGITTARIUS
The 5 of Wands symbolises frustration, hassles and setbacks, which may remind you of so many other times of strife in your life. You may be able to deal better with the momentary situation if you can separate it from past experiences! Try to find your sense of freedom and empowerment deep inside and gently let it shine outwards from there.
d CAPRICORN
The Queen of Swords suggests that the time is ripe to stand up for yourself, tell your truth, be heard, acknowledged and understood. With her by your side you don’t mind ruffling a few feathers. You are uncompromising but not uncaring, and people respect you for having the guts to be so upfront.
e AQUARIUS
The Lovers Tarot card represents the principle of duality and oneness at the same time, as expressed for example in the yin and yang symbol. Interconnectedness is the key to fulfilling relationships and the realisation that ‘no man is an island’ may be somehow frightening but reassuring at the same time…
f PISCES
The Knight of Disks typically symbolises an overworked and underpaid person. If that is you, ask yourself which attitude in yourself you would have to challenge to change that. Maybe you settle for small gains because you think at least it’s safe? You may have to teach people how you want to be treated, respected and reimbursed for your efforts.

This week's review
TITLE: To Shake The Sleeping Self : A Journey from
Oregon to Patagonia, and a Quest for a Life with No Regret AUTHOR: Jedidiah Jenkins NUMBER OF PAGES: 336 EST. READ TIME: 7 hours 5 minutes PRICE: $18.95
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Jedidiah Jenkins is a guy who, in
his twenties, was feeling lost and lacked direction. Like so many of his peers he had worked a few types of jobs and over the years built up a community of friends in LA. He was comfortable. But still he had the niggling sensation that he had to change something in his life. So, as a promise to himself he announced he would bike ride from Oregon to Patagonia when he turned 30. Without any real bike training or orienteering experience.
WHO IT'S FOR: Those who love travel and memoirs. WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: I love any author who is
willing to shed their skin to explore a deeper part of themselves, and to share that publicly. You will be hooked into the journey across different landscapes, be touched by the stories of strangers and want to ride a bike across a great distance (even if you can’t realistically ride more than a few kilometres).
NOTABLE QUOTES: ‘Traveling alone, you get to be
whoever you want. I don't mean lie. I mean you get to be a blank slate. You can't leave behind your skin color, or your height, or the handsomeness or homeliness of your face. But you can leave your story behind. If you've broken hearts, the new place doesn't know. If you've lost trust in people and yourself, the new place doesn't know. If everyone thinks you love Jesus, but you never really have figured out what you believe, the new place doesn't care.’ Review written by Jessie Hilton @jessieahilton

This week's recommendation
ALBUM TITLE: Bury the Moon ARTIST: Asgeir RELEASED: Febuary 2020 GENRE: Production based, Icelandic folk BIO: An Icelandic musician who takes pride and
inspiration from the natural landscape around him. His music frequents at the top of the Icelandic charts and it's only secondary that much of it is translated to English.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Bury the Moon comes from a place full
of emotion. It broaches the usual topic of heartbreak but also delves into escape, isolation and the song Living Water touches on Iceland's sacred resources and the need to protect them. Living Water was actually co-written alongside his father who stands as a constant inspiration and teacher to Asgeir.
WHAT WE LIKE: This genre of music has a tendency
to drift into the realm of beautiful but depressing. However, Bury the Moon has a subtle uplifting tone throughout. It's hopeful, even with songs such as Youth that tell of nostalgic memories, or Eventide which is about death. Another subtle deviation is that all the lyrics are clear and understandable, making it easier to understand and connect with the album's stories. As you continue the songs pick up in pace. Lazy Giants' bass and drums invite you to what I'm naming the double time sway – you start off thinking 'this is a little bit fun', and by the end there's an 85% likelihood you'll be getting a nice little off beat, mum finger click or toe tap happening. The production increases for Rattled Snow, a song where you can easily simulate yourself into some futuristic movie scene.
STANDOUT TRACKS: Lazy Giants, Turn Gold to Sand. PERFECT FOR: Getting through the rainy season, cosy days inside, or even trudging around the outdoors after rain.
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Bon Iver, Axel FlĂłvent, Beirut. Recommended by Delphi O'Heart.

DEAR KEENWA,
My groms want pets. They have a lot of love to give. Being residents of Byron Hills, we've been through two sets of Guinea pigs in two weeks. Are they a distant dream? Both times they got done by a resident carpet python. I understand the snake was here first, but is there a way we can all live in harmony? - Animal treaty
DEAR ANIMAL TREATY,
The same story is going down at our house. I took solace in the last incident whereby the python, unable to reverse herself outta the rabbit hutch, now being considerably bigger meant we had to relocate the whole habitat, and lean it against a gum tree until she has digested enough to allow movement. Except she never did. A kookaburra swooped down and ate the snake/rabbit before laughing it's head off. We walked back to the house singing A Circle of Life at the top of our lungs. Kids included.
DEAR KEENWA,
I recently felt inspired to conduct a ceremony. For my hair. A lot of stories lived in those locks. As I had been growing them since I was eighteen (I'm now 23 years old) I knew that they were bigger than me, so I sold some tickets on eventbrite, and let people say a few words if they felt called. I also live broadcasted the whole thing on Insta. The recording is still up for those that missed it. Just thought you'd like to know. I did invite the local custodians of the land the hair is now part of, as I assumed that they might like to trade their sacred and ancient culture for a plate of fried eggplant, and my very dear cause, but I never heard back from them. - Lunar Locks
DEAR LUNAR LOCKS,
Wow. What to say. No really, is it possible that you let me speak? Please inform me what i actually have permission to say.

Ella Bancroft ARTIST @ELLANOAHBANCROFT_
TELL US WHERE YOU’RE FROM, AND HOW YOU FOUND YOURSELF IN BYRON? I was born in Sydney. My placenta is buried in a backyard in Balmain. I spent time outside Grafton growing up as a child, climbing trees and playing in the freshwater rivers. Four years ago Byron called me in while I was visiting here with friends and I knew it was meant to be my home. HOW DO YOU USE ART TO TELL YOUR STORIES? I am inspired by my mother and the art she painted when I was a child. I love black and white. I have found a style that suits me, that represents my ideas on life. I paint a lot of women - birthing, love making and creation through the lens of an Indigenous Australian mixed heritage woman. YOU ALSO RUN WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP EVENTS - WHAT DO THEY AIM TO ACHIEVE? My intention is to bring about old ways of relating as women, to reclaim women’s business, to break down competition and invite sisterhood and support into the heart of every woman who attends. I hope to inspire us to re-find our magic together. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC TO LISTEN TO? I am really into music that makes me feel, that I can move my hips to or that I can fall on the floor and cry to. I love Lauren Hill, Ngaiire and Nidala - her music cracks me open. COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE – “I LOVE …. the ocean, women, poetry, my family, magic, prayer, ceremony." IF YOU WENT TO A FANCY-DRESS PARTY, WHO WOULD YOU GO AS, AND WHY? I would dress as Lilith as a reminder that we should all embrace our darkness and integrate it into our light being, and stay rebellious :) IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT BYRON WHAT WOULD IT BE? I am often in my car too much, so I would create more bike paths and open the railway line. Plus more tree planting for sure.
