THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE
the intimacy of a basement lounge to get your dose of music vibes. But in the absence of the real deal, here’s a social distancing alternative - NPR Tiny Desk Concerts www.npr.org/tinydesk. Create your own playlists from about 1,000 mini performances that showcase the artists and their music in a different way. Musos like Lumineers, Sting & Shaggy, Taylor Swift, Adele, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Cranberries, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Blue Man Group, Booker T. Jones and Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles, all give inspired and inspiring performances. You can also simply switch on NPR’s stylised recommendations.
of lines is not as easy as it seems, but as you build your zen skills and confidence you will find oodles of DIY ideas and plans on Google. You can add coloured sand, crystals, mini plants and even decorative trinkets - but remember this is meant to be a relaxing and tranquil space, so no flashing lights or mini disco balls please! After all that gardening, time to settle down with the Mocktail of the Week – Pineapple & Mint Mojito. Ingredients for two 20 Fresh mint leaves; 4 teaspoons sugar or sweetener; 1/2 cup pineapple juice; 2 limes, juiced; 1 cup soda water. Directions - In a cocktail shaker, muddle mint leaves with sugar or sweetener. Add pineapple juice, lime juice and ice, and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into 2 tall glasses filled with ice and top with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of mint. (For a slight variation, replace the pineapple juice with 1 cup crushed blackberries and ½ cup water, and hey presto – Blackberry Mojito!).

How about losing yourself in a Japanese desktop zen garden. Sand and rocks are easy to come by in Byron, so start with the basic “karesansui” or “dry landscape” garden. Step 1: Fill a flat container with sand and shake it from side to side to even it out. Step 2: Position 3 different sized stones in your garden, in a random triangular layout. Step 3: Add a few drops of essential oils for soothing aromas. Step 4: Create your sand patterns with a mini rake or fork. The placement of the stones in your garden has lots of meaning, as they represent things such as islands, mountains and trees. The sand patterns represent flowing water, and the act of raking the sand has a soothing and aesthetic function. Zen priests practice this raking to help their concentration and mindfulness. Achieving perfection

WE HAVE LEARNT TO WALK AROUND WITH BLINKERS ON FOR
most of our lives. We see what’s directly in front of us, but we don’t have much peripheral vision. Some people don rose coloured glasses, for a little extra optimistic style. Some add an eye patch, for character – but this narrows inputs even further. And others are actually blind behind their blinkers - they may look like everyone else, but they regularly trip over any obstacles in their way. Clarity of vision may be optional when you’re relaxing on the couch, but when you are living through “the greatest challenge of our generation” you’d better know what’s out there! Remove the blinkers; identify the issue; recognise it’s impact; research the options; think global, act local; and be flexible enough to change it all on the run! As the great philosopher Mike Tyson said - “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” For all it’s dire consequences, COVID-19 has undoubtedly demonstrated how we could tackle that other generational challenge – how to extract ourselves from the unhealthy and unsustainable reliance on fossil fuels. The inconvenience of travel bans and isolation, additional hygiene practices and social distancing, lower demand and curtailed expenditure, closed offices and distance learning – all these impossible sacrifices have proven to be not only possible, but necessary. The times, they are a-changin’. As the viral infection rates drop, collateral outcomes are hard to ignore. Blue skies, clean water, freezing polar caps. Bi-partisan politicians, grateful human beings, humble CEO’s. University business models out - teaching models in. Professional sporting elites out - amateur sport and entertainment in. Friends and family back on top - things and experiences relegated to second. We are learning to live without impulse shopping, compulsive gambling and repulsive materialism. We have shown that we can follow advice, when it comes from a credible source. Why wouldn’t we stay on this pathway? Priorities, they are a-changin’. This is our “come to Jesus moment” – our reality check – our moment of truth. The blinkers are off and the spotlight is on. Let’s not waste the opportunity of a generation, a lifetime, a millennium. As Bob Dylan might say today - stay safe, stay the course, stay chilled - the times, they are definitely a-changin’. Tony Byron Bazaar

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THURSDAY’S NEW MOON IN TAURUS
takes place in close proximity to Uranus. Taurus is concerned about safety, security, the economy and a pleasant lifestyle, whereas the Uranian archetype stands for innovation and is determined to completely challenge and change how we go about getting our Taurean needs met. Some people get into gardening for food security; others download the latest health surveillance app. The remedy needs to fit the individual and Uranus helps us to remember to give each other the personal freedom to respond in whichever way we deem necessary for our individual survival. During this New Moon time the struggle between the old ways (Moon square Saturn) and the new ways (Moon conjunct Uranus) is highlighted; stress and apprehension may feel overwhelming. If that is the case remember to focus on your capability, not on your fear and perceived limitations. During the weekend the Sun holds its yearly rendezvous with Uranus. Maybe it is a good idea to meditate on what your perspective and world view were one year ago, when Sun and Uranus united in Taurus for the first time in 84 years. Also during the weekend Mercury, the messenger who resides in Aries (the warrior archetype) forms a tension-loaded square to the ongoing Pluto/Jupiter conjunction; volatile discussions may erupt. Try not to jump to conclusions! From now on Pluto, the planet for big money, power and transformation moves retrograde until early October, only to retrace his steps for many more months after that… This is our solar system’s way to make us aware about long-term changes and fundamental transformation which have lately been set in motion. On Tuesday Mercury moves into down-to-earth and practical Taurus. He hopefully inspires workable, new ways and prods us to rearrange our personal value systems. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The Ace of Swords offers the gift of crystal clear consciousness. Sometimes a really honest conversation with someone close to you will bring clarity, at other times it might be necessary to simply be totally true to yourself, not judging, but owning what is. New insight follows…
h TAURUS
The 7 of Disks indicates worry and doubt. You may be questioning your choices and pondering alternatives. Don’t get bogged down by worst case scenarios, just take stock as objectively as possible and open up to new strategies or possibilities. Try to stay responsive and flexible…
i GEMINI
The 2 of Swords can be likened to the two twins. Yes and no, right and wrong, good and bad… you may flip between the two poles many times a day. You and people close to you might find that upsetting and exhausting. Since more information will not bring you the peace of mind that you are looking for, what about meditation in soothing nature?
j CANCER
With the Ace of Wands drawn you are fired up and ready to defend your territory. Even if this is not necessary you have ample energy to funnel into a worthwhile project. Your vitality, strength and creative force is at an all-time high, so invest it wisely and know where it is appreciated…

The Queen of Cups nudges you to get in touch with your tenderness, sensitivity and spirituality. With her by your side you may explore the strength that vulnerability can bring, and you are more than ever willing to show your heart’s feelings uncensored. How you feel can be expressed very creatively.
The 8 of Swords symbolises the over-analytical mind; it can’t rest before it has exhausted all sides of an issue, and then it starts all over again. As helpful as information and the intellect can be, if you leave your heart and your gut-feeling out, you are not getting the full picture! Trust the whole of you, not just a part!
a LIBRA
The 10 of Wands depicts an up-hill struggle that takes a lot of your energy. You may have been overextending yourself in an effort to keep peace and harmony with others, and now it might be difficult to step back, set limits and disappoint expectations. Trust yourself and look after yourself first, only then can you be a great resource to others.
b SCORPIO
The Fool Tarot card is all about trusting your heart’s desire for change and renewal. You might have to overcome some old fears, but as soon as you leap forward you know that you are making empowered choices that lead to a new and more liberated lifestyle. Go for it…
The 2 of Disks promotes flexibility and a fluent response to new situations. Not a problem for the archer, who is always interested in an alternative path. As you go with the flow and maybe reduce commitments, you find that this can be an expansive, positive, even funfilled week.
With the 4 of Cups drawn you may be forced to evaluate your situation, in particular the balance or imbalance between what you give out and what you receive. You may habitually fall into selfdepreciation, undervaluing your efforts, and others will naturally mirror that back to you. As you value yourself more others will respect you too.
e AQUARIUS
With the 10 of Swords drawn and Saturn plus Mars in your sign you are keen to reform your own life and even our whole society, but deep inside you might feel powerless and struggle with the limitations that are forced upon you. For now you may have to find your personal freedom in every moment and choose what kind of thoughts you entertain.
f PISCES
The Hermit Tarot card suggests that time alone may be very nourishing if you develop a positive attitude towards it. Often times in your life you must have felt like retreating from all worldly demands, and now that you can have it, you can learn to love it and use it as creatively as you want.

DEAR KEENWA,
Recently, at the end of a shopping trip, my family experienced a tragedy. As a reward for being a 'star' grocery packer, the teenage checkout chick leaned over the 17 “Keep Your Distance signage and markings, and high-fived my daughter. My daughter, as we've taught her, did not leave her hanging. They connected. With their hands. People saw. I have been riddled with guilt ever since. Do you think I should report her? And what about the worker? My daughter is five so she just might be exempt from Juvie. - Mother's Guilt
DEAR MOTHER'S GUILT,
Motherhood, ouch, it sure ain't easy, especially in these times. It's a fine line between fighting their battles for them, and teaching them the ways of the world so that they may survive it. Better to learn earlier, I say. I like to take inspiration from nature when it comes to parenting. Take wolves or jaguars for example; fun-loving and playful one minute, attempted murderer the next.
DEAR KEENWA,
I love hugs. That is both a personal fact, and the name of my business. Well, my former business. It has been down of late. I just don't understand. Even though the sign says I'm offering them for free, usually enough people understand the law of attraction to dump a few coins in exchange. Lately though, there is not only no coins, but no actual hugs. One dude even chased me away, and threatened to report me?! I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong? Has the world just gone cold? - Touch N Go
DEAR TOUCH N GO,
These times call for a harsh lesson in self-huggery. It's the moment to embrace (pardon the pun) your own arms, bro. Hug this period out, and watch your business BOOM when touch is allowed again. Watch them drop coins like they are hot. I'm also not not advising to take your biz on the black market in the meantime.

This week's review
TITLE: Underworld AUTHOR: Don DeLillo NUMBER OF PAGES: 832 READING TIME: 22 hours 18 minutes PRICE: $29.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The novel opens in 1951, at a
legendary baseball game between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. The ball that was hit for the winning home run causes a scramble amongst the fans. This morphs into a scramble for life, as a Soviet atomic bomb test puts the world onto a Cold War footing. As paranoia and fear become the new norm, DeLillo takes the reader on a forty-year journey, through the eyes and lives of two lovers from the Bronx. Sexual promiscuity, drugs, atomic bombs and civil rights underscore the actions of historical figures. J. Edgar Hoover runs an all-powerful, deviant and secretive FBI. Lenny Bruce uses his stand-up comedy routines to highlight the hysteria of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mick Jagger performs his songs with the attitude and strut of the devil.
WHO IT'S FOR: The Cold War world depicted in
Underworld leaves no lives untouched by the fear of the unknown. We may look back upon COVID-19 as a time not so different from this work of fiction.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: This novel has been praised as a piece of art fiction, and once you start reading you can see why. To appreciate the details, provide your undivided attention - and Underworld will reward you. NOTABLE QUOTES: “Small rich angry men got out of rented convertibles with their dolled-up wives, women so cultishly tanned they resembled tobacco leaf.” “The bombheads loved their work, but weren’t necessarily pro-bomb, walking around with megadeath hard-ons. They were detail freaks. They were awed by the inner music of bomb technology.”

This week's recommendation
EP TITLE: I Feel Alive ARTIST: TOPS RELEASED: April 2020 GENRE: Indie Pop BIO: This is the Montreal group’s 4th album, and it
builds on the sophisticated pop style of their earlier efforts. Co-songwriter and lead singer Jane Penny has a high pitch and an ethereal feel, and together with guitarist and songwriter David Carriere, they make great pop sounds. Keyboardist Marta Cikojevic joined the group for this recording, after supporting their recent tours, and she adds some instrumental depth and variety.
WHAT TO EXPECT: TOPS have a niche, and this album should provide a familiar sound for established fans and an easy entry point for newbies. A bit disco, a bit electro-pop and a lot of late-night moods. WHAT WE LIKE: The opening track, Direct Sunlight
is slightly 80’s Madonna, with lyrics straight out of Sting’s, “We’ll Be Together”. Next up, the title track sounds like a stand-alone single – upbeat, with layered harmonies, reminiscing Bananarama. Pirouette is one of the better tracks – it has a jazzy feel, with some funky synth effects. Slightly less bop, and more blip, Ballads & Sad Movies, Take Down, and Looking to Remember create a more sombre mood within an otherwise breezy offering. The album closes with Too Much, Jane’s vocals featuring once again (as they do on all the tracks actually).
STANDOUT TRACKS: I Feel Alive, Looking to Remember, Witching Hour, Pirouette.
PERFECT FOR: The breathy vocals and funky rhythms
definitely create a sensual vibe – perfect evening accompaniment in the right place, at the right time and maybe that should be all the time!
LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Tame Impala, Madonna, Little Dragon, Yumi Zouma, The Marias
