the Queen's Birthday long weekend; entry from $10. On Sunday the party moves to the Stone & Wood Brewery for Festival of the Stone. Those lucky enough to have nabbed tickets before they sold out will get to kick back to beats from Kingswood, Polish Club, MT Warning and Your Mates DJ, with Bunny Racket busting out a few tunes for the kids. The fun starts from 4pm, with Byron’s best food trucks rolling in to keep punters fed, and all profits from tickets and beer sold going directly to Liberation Larder and Bay FM. Cheers to that!

DEAR KEENWA,

I'm so into this chick, we can talk about anything, but the topic is mainly my ex-girlfriend. I've asked for her number a few times, and she keeps rejecting me, I don't get it, we get along like a house on fire. Is she afraid of commitment? Impressionable

DEAR IMPRESSIONABLE,

Yes, sounds like she is scared to commit to a dude who is still very much attached to his former girlfriend. Rightly so. Whilst a romantic dinner with the three of you sounds delicious, you might want to ask yourself if you actually like the chick, or like invoking the spirit of the past with her? Get a dog or an inflatable friend and do the same. Review feelings.

DEAR KEENWA,

My flattie is really into saging our house every full and new moon (and in between), problem is she also smokes other herbals and forgets about the burning sage. Most nights, I lay in bed in fear of asphyxiation, despite the fresh energy the sage clearing brings us, any advice? Smudged Out

DEAR SMUDGED OUT,

This one calls for a good old fashioned sage off. After she has completed her round of smudging the house, and retires to her bedroom to puff the magic dragon into dreamland, creep out with your own sage stick. You might want to use a eucalyptus and white sage blend for extra powers. Spark it up. Walk around the house waving it around like you know what you're doing; which is saging over her intention, with your intention to protect the house from burning down. Light up to avoid burning down is what I'm sayin'.

HEAVILY Meditated With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra SINGLE-TASKING IS THE NEW MULTI-TASKING. The myth of multitasking. It’s something most of us fall prey to at one point or another. Killing two birds with one stone, juggling ten open browser windows, pin-balling between conversations on social media, email and text while chain eating chips. Thinking, if I do more things at the same time I’ll get more done! There are obvious downsides. Typos, a to-do list without a ticked box, unfinished sentences, missed messages, overeating, half-baked conversations, lost moments of connection, rice cooked to a carcinogenic crisp, or a sense of having gotten absolutely nothing done all day.

6 BYRON BAZAAR

If we’re being honest with ourselves we know we don’t perform as well or act in-line with our highest good when we multitask. And scientific research is proving that the perceived benefits of multitasking are bogus. Studies have found that chronic multitaskers aren’t as good at filtering irrelevant information and have weaker cognitive abilities than single-taskers, and that multi-tasking causes the part of the brain associated with memory recall to switch off. Yikes! By multi-tasking, we lose our ability to find focus and thereby forfeit our ability to connect to ourselves and others, deprive ourselves of experiencing a satisfied sense of accomplishment, and diminish our brain’s ability to function optimally. The fix? Do less and achieve more. Single-tasking is the new multi-tasking, yo!

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

THE FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS ON

Friday brings inspiration and ideas for a better world and a more humanitarian perspective. Some of it might be over-idealistic but it will help to counterbalance the ‘wet blanket’ effect of a Sun/Saturn opposition that is building up until mid-week. Over the weekend Venus in Taurus and Mars in Cancer are in an amicable sextile; this is very nurturing and relaxing for intimate relationships. Wednesday might be a challenging day, with the Sun/Saturn opposition almost exact, and Mercury trine Jupiter and square Neptune. Mercury is travelling through Gemini and makes the mind hyper-active and relentless in its pursuit of knowledge or distractions. The combination with Jupiter may instigate building castles in the sky or jumping to premature conclusions. The stressful aspect to Neptune adds a great amount of confusion, deception or misinformation to the mix. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

With the Princess of Swords drawn you are very prone to act and react prematurely, which could create conflict and raise opposition in situations where cooperation would be much more constructive. When you feel triggered, take a few deep breaths, choose to consciously slow down and contemplate your options.

h TAURUS

The 9 of Disks speaks of material gain and emotional safety, two subjects the bull is often concerned with. There is a great chance to attract exactly what you want this week; accept it graciously and enjoy the comforts and improvements of your lifestyle that it might bring.

i GEMINI

With Sun and Mercury in your sign and the 7 of Cups drawn, your mind may have a difficult time relaxing and de-stressing; so much is going on! You might react by over-indulging in all sorts of things, e.g. over-eating, shopping, gossiping or wishful thinking. None of these activities brings you relief; contemplating how your mind could be your servant rather than your slave-driver would be the remedy.

j CANCER

The Princess of Disks represents the creative force of the Earth-Goddess in her gestation phase. This is the time to contemplate new projects or life-changing decisions, but is not yet the time to implement them. A big part of your manifestation work happens before you see any results in the real world; trust the process...

BY GISELA

k LEO

The 3 of Swords describes the disconnection you might feel when your heart is closed because you want to protect yourself from recurring hurts, while at the same time your mind is fixated on the same old sorrow, worry and doubt you’re trying to avoid. The attitude of gratitude for the things that work for you, may help you to recover, and may facilitate relaxation and healing.

l VIRGO

The 9 of Wands represents inner strength and resilience that you might have to call upon this week. Gone are the times when you collapsed when challenged! Now you know how to stand up for yourself, how to persevere and how to tap into hidden reserves of self-love that bring you closer to what you really want.

a LIBRA

The 10 of Swords represents a time when you are trapped in negative thinking and your inner harmony may be deeply disturbed by your futile self-depreciation. The road to recovery and more inner peace is paved with unconditional love for yourself, just like you love your children or your pet, even though they are not perfect.

b SCORPIO

The Ace of Swords represents the gift of mental clarity and decisiveness. Your honesty and integrity may help to solve a difficult situation this week and other people might look to you for direction and good advice. You might be graced by an ‘aha’ moment of crystal-clear insight and consciousness.

c SAGITTARIUS

All is well with the 3 of Wands drawn! Inner peace comes easily as you naturally align body, mind and spirit. Yoga, long walks in nature or a little adventure away from your normal routine may bring you renewed vitality, decisiveness and zest for life.

d CAPRICORN

With the 7 of Disks drawn you might have to examine and evaluate your deepest motivations. If you are habitually guided by the fear of failure, then limitation and avoidance hold you prisoner but also give you a certain sense of safety. Now is the perfect time to grow beyond this pattern...

e AQUARIUS

The 9 of Wands is the wish card in the deck and it indicates that some of your deep longings are about to find fulfilment. Happiness and pleasure fill your heart when you apply your gift for crafting satisfying relationships and purposeful networks. A sense of belonging may bring new meaning in your life.

f PISCES

The Hierophant symbolises your commitment to your spiritual search. This week you might find another piece of your very personal puzzle that helps you to see the bigger picture. There may be an opportunity to resolve some old family issues, due to the insights and awareness you are gaining.

IRRESPONSIBLE BIKE RIDERS, ANONYMOUS

On my daily commute to work between 8am and 9am, I am amazed at the bike riders. Most of them no helmets, earphones, earplugs and some with a surfboard swaying from the rack. If you have no thought for your own head if you hit the ground. Please give a thought to the motorist that hits you, they have to live with that. Try visiting a major hospital with people who have head and brain injuries, then you might consider wearing a helmet. Please give a thought to the motorists on the road, and forget about your carefree image. Be Safe.

Prebiotic Banana Bread by Byron Bay Alive Foods INGREDIENTS • 3-4 large very ripe bananas, plus 1 extra for decoration • 1 ½ cups tigernut flour • ½ cup green banana flour or almond meal

• 1 tsp ground cinnamon or 2 drops each of cinnamon and cardamon therapeutic grade essential oil (optional) • 1 tbsp raw honey for drizzling

• 4 large eggs • 4 tbsp coconut oil or butter • 1 ½ tsp baking powder

METHOD • Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees celcius.

BY @BYRONBAYALIVEFOODS This week’s recipe comes from Byron Bay Alive Foods, who are famous for their amazing sauerkraut products. Anna and David offer up their recipe for prebiotic banana bread. One of the great things about this recipe is the inclusion of tigernut flour. Tigernuts are one of the oldest superfoods and a great source of prebiotic fiber. For this bread, you don’t need to add any extra sweetener - the bananas and the flour are taking care of that.

20 BYRON BAZAAR

$22.50

• In a blender, add all ingredients except baking powder. • Blend until smooth, then add baking powder and blitz through. • Pour in a rectangle baking tin lined with baking paper. • Thinly slice the extra banana and decorate on top of the batter. Drizzle an extra spoon of honey. • Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly browned on top and a skewer inserted comes out clean.

• Serve with grass fed or coconut butter if you prefer. Delicious toasted as well!

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Jo Loewenthal, VOCALIST/GUITARIST/KEYS IN TORA WHAT DOES TORA MEAN AND WHY IS IT RELEVANT FOR YOU? Tora means ‘now’, which is relevant because our sound is constantly evolving with time.

BORN IN BYRON, WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST WHEN YOU GO ON TOUR? Definitely the beaches, people and tranquility at home.

IS THERE ANYWHERE THAT YOU WOULD GO IN BYRON FOR INSPIRATION? There are plenty of places, but the first that comes to mind is the hang-gliding launch pad near the lighthouse.

BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCE? Can’t really pinpoint one

artist, but to name a few…James Blake, Little Dragon, Bon Iver, John Mayer (plenty of others).

WHO’S THE ONE THAT ALWAYS SLEEPS IN ON THE ROAD?

Jai is usually the guy still asleep 5 minutes before we have to get in the tour bus.

WHAT’S THE BEST FESTIVAL YOU HAVE PERFORMED AT? 'Best Kept Secret' in Netherlands, they looked after us so well and had so many great acts playing.

AND THE BEST LIVE GIG YOU HAVE SEEN? I would have to

say John Mayer at the BCEC (I think 2011) was pretty high on the list. Darkside at Splendour. Bonobo at Falls Festival. There have been so many good ones.

THERE’S A FEW OF YOU IN THE BAND, IS THERE ONE OF YOU THAT ALWAYS NEEDS TAKING CARE OF WHEN ON TOUR? I

think we’re all pretty good at taking care of ourselves, but there’s definitely a strong sense of comradery between us all. We look after each other.

@Toramusic have just announced their debut album and will be playing at The Northern July 1st.
