As a consolation for those who missed out, Saturday will see Byron Brewery host the second edition of its Street Food Truck Party with live music, a vintage rummage sale, gourmet street and brews food from 4pm. For those keen to party on that night, dust off your most radical 80s outfit and head to the Bangalow Bowlo, which will be hosting Bay FM’s annual Great 80s Winter Discotheque from 8pm. G TO SAY?

PARADISE AND ALL!!, ANONYMOUS 11 The subject of affordable housing made ABC News. It’s such a relevant issue here in the Byron Shire. Having experienced moving house 5 times in the last few years, all exhausting experiences that have very much effected my families health and well being. With the rental prices so high and the pressure to find new accommodation for a family, whilst continuing school, work and surviving in this tourist town. It has been completely daunting, and so incredibly stressful. So what can we do to create affordable long-term rentals for the community that wish to continue to work and live here in the Byron Shire? It seems not much chance of that these days with so many AirBnBs, holiday accommodation & investment properties on the market. So money make more money and sure why not cash in, but if you have heart and soul and wish to be a part of the community, and the creative culture that this town is renowned for, do understand unless you are well off, rich or famous it's virtually impossible. Being squeezed out!!!

DEAR KEENWA,

It's plastic free July. I'm a committed eco warrior and have successfully rid my beach shack of all plastic activity but since the bags, balls and condoms of supermarkets, tennis and protected sex are off the list I'm feeling kind of bored. Is it more environmentally friendly to conceive a conscious, plastic-free being? What about overpopulation and the effect on our precious earth? Captain Fantastic

DEAR CAPTAIN FANTASTIC,

You want the good news or the great news? Although latex looks, feels, tastes, and causes the same ugly allergic reactions down there, it isn't plastic at all. It's derived from our horny Brazo friends' rubber tree (no pun intended), so not only is it natural, but it's guilt free for all of July babes, all aboard.

DEAR KEENWA,

I met a super cool dude on Tinder and we clicked right away. After the second date he told me he could see himself marrying me, and that we'd have the cutest family. I refused to commit to being exclusive so soon, but on his trip home to Perth over the weekend, he made out with someone else, told me, then asked when we could hang out again. Now I hate him. But I like him. What should I do? Shotgun

DEAR SHOTGUN,

I'm just wondering if you can talk me through your food diary whilst he was away. On day one babes, what did you have for dinner? I'm guessing a bit of comfort food, some fish and chips or pizza perhaps? Then on day two you might have felt a bit guilty about your blow out, so you made yourself some grilled fish and steamed veggies. Maybe you had leftovers on night three, but by night four since his departure I'm guessing you felt like a bit of a spice up and craved some takeaway, a veggo curry? You feel me? We're human. We have taste buds. They're fuelled by variety. Kids are cute though.

HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

This week's mantra SELF-CARE IS SACRED The words “self care” sound a bit…limp. Less than inspiring. Boring even. Like…oh great, another thing I need to do. AMIRIGHT? But here’s a hack. Add the word “sacred” as a prefix. Sacred self-care sounds DIVINE. IMPORTANT. LUSH. And it IS. If I loaned you my favourite sweater would you spill coffee on it, wear it threadbare and launder it with your dishtowels? No. You’d attend to it with care. And yet, we treat our very own bodies and minds our most sacred possessions - with very little care. We leave ourselves last. Filling up our own cup as an afterthought, not a priority. PEOPLE. This is all kinds of messed up. In fact, it’s backwards. Filling up our own cup last is like building a house from the roof down. There’s no foundation. No stability. And yet this is how most of us operate. Is it any surprise that we have a culture of people who are weary with adrenal depletion, exhaustion and overwhelm? If you subscribe to the fact that you are part of a cosmic divinity - whether it’s that you’re made of stardust or or that some God/dess had a hand in your creation - who are you NOT to take care of yourself? Who are you to wear down your divinity? Reframe “self-care” as a sacred act and give yourself permission to prioritise your own wellbeing as a divine being. So go on now, ditch the guilt and enjoy taking care of yourself. YOU DESERVE IT.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

MERCURY THE PLANET FOR INTERACTION

and information moves into Leo on Thursday, where he resides for one month. Expect communication to be dramatic, humorous and entertaining but also quite egocentric at times. A Sun/Neptune water trine has been building for days and is exact on Thursday as well. This is a marvellous aspect for a creative endeavour and if you combine that spirit with Mercury in Leo, you can take your inspiration to new heights. The next few days are perfect to make a favourable impression and to showcase your creativity. Sunday’s Full Moon in Capricorn might bring intense feelings, but there is also great potential for emotional release and healing, due to the Full Moon’s conjunction with Pluto, the big transformer. This energy spills over to Monday and might be compounded by a Sun/Pluto opposition that stirs up abrasive arguments and power struggles. Tuesday and Wednesday are much more easy-going and agreeable, but keep in mind that the Sun/Pluto energy could still be an undercurrent that needs to be dealt with. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each a strological sign.

g ARIES

The Prince of Wands is often called Prince Charming; with his confident, daring and adventurous attitude he rises to any given challenge. Your creative and persuasive powers are intensified this week; you need to be heard, seen and acknowledged. Just make sure that you are sensitive to other’s feelings and needs as well.

h TAURUS

With the 2 of Cups drawn and in combination with the Sun/ Neptune trine, you might feel quite starry-eyed and as though love is in the air everywhere. If there is no partner to adore in your life, spend some time with a delicious, sensual and nurturing treatment that can help you to move towards new heights of self-love and acceptance.

i GEMINI

The Prince of Disks suggests slowing down a bit; make sure that you stay grounded and attend to everyday matters with patience and perseverance. The pace of ‘slowly but surely’ may cause frustration and tension; nevertheless it might save you from some arguments, that otherwise look unavoidable. On the upside you get lots done...

j CANCER

Whether it is your birthday week or not, the Magician gifts you with awareness and focus that can produce magical results. Your creative power is at an all-time high and so is your can-do attitude. It might look like things miraculously fall into place, but you know very well how much blood, sweat and tears you invested behind the scenes.

BY GISELA

k LEO

c SAGITTARIUS

l VIRGO

d CAPRICORN

The Death Tarot card symbolises profound transformation and it is drawn for Leo for a second week in a row. Obviously you are in a major phase of endings, renewal and new beginnings; this may be a breathless and exhausting time! If you resist letting go of old restrictive patterns and circumstances, more pain will follow...

The 4 of Swords indicates that it is high time to find resolutions for an ongoing conflict that keeps you preoccupied and drains your energy. If you feel mentally overwhelmed, take time off in nature; which helps you to step back, find a more open and flexible perspective and reconsider precisely these options that promise lasting peace.

a LIBRA The 8 of Swords paints a picture of inner turmoil; you may feel restricted and out of your own depth in a certain situation, and may try to control it by being nice or over-analytical. This strategy does not get you the results you want. Maybe try to relax and allow things to develop for some time without interfering at all...

b SCORPIO

This week the 2 of Disks demands flexibility and the ability to go with the flow rather than having preconceived ideas about how things should work. The changes you may have to adapt to actually work in your favour. Therefore the less resisting and controlling you do, the better – not an easy task during this Full Moon time!

The Ace of Wands symbolises strong, fiery energy that needs to be directed towards a cause, a project or a creative endeavour. Otherwise you might blow a fuse, just because it is impossible to contain and hold back your overflowing, excited and inspired life force. Wondrous new possibilities may present themselves...

With the Queen of Swords drawn this is not the week for niceties! You may have to let go of any comfortable and safe masks you wear or roles you play in certain social situations. Your inner clarity must be conveyed in a straightforward way in important conversations, so that others know where you stand. No time to hide or pretend...

e AQUARIUS

The Princess of Swords describes the attitude of rebellion, not just for rebellion’s sake but to uphold convictions and ethical principles in true Aquarian fashion. Your actions and reactions have to include love and respect for all humanity to be positive, constructive and creative.

f PISCES

The Knight of Disks symbolises a rather fixed way of thinking and right now you might be stubbornly holding onto some outdated principles that force you to work harder rather than smarter. Take a little break and consider alternative options. Don’t soldier on obsessively.

Stuffed potatoes or "papa rellena" by Andres Soldi

METHOD

BY @ACHEFSPOCKET

St. Elmo is plating up modern Spanish tapas dishes and share plates, inspired by fresh and flavoursome ingredients. Our innovative menu is designed to be shared with great company. You’ve found your kind of place.

• Cook potatoes in boiling water. Drain the water, peel them and make a puree through a sieve. Add a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of oil. • Make 50gr little balls with a small square of tasty cheese inside. • Proceed to crumb with two bowls, one with the 2 beaten eggs and another with the panko breadcrumbs mixed with the cooked and dry quinoa.

• Coat each ball with egg wash, bread crumbs and repeat the process to get a nice crumb. Fry on hot oil for a minute until it goes crispy and serve with a quick salad made with sliced red onion, lime juice, pinch of salt, coriander and chopped chilli. Enjoy!

an ancient forest dwelling tribe whose way of life depends solely on the forest and nature’s provisions. He was inspired to create a film and begin the Indigenous Education Foundation, a vehicle to support community-based initiatives aimed at preventing long-term poverty amongst displaced Indigenous peoples. As Worlds Divide follows the struggles and strengths of the Mentawai people as they try ‘to maintain their language, culture and identity in the face of increasing commercialisation and acculturation.”

The film is scheduled to screen at Byron Theatre on July 11, 2017. For the full event details and to book tickets, go to the Byron Community centre website. www.byroncentre.com.au or call 6685 6807

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Roz Hopkins and Natalie Winter, CAPTAIN HONEY HOW DID YOU TWO MEET AND BEGIN WORKING TOGETHER?

We met at the Sydney-based book publishing company, HarperCollins. Natalie was an award-winning book designer and I was the non-fiction publisher responsible for a range of titles across genres such as food, gardening, mind, body spirit, parenting and memoir.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION BEHIND STARTING CAPTAIN HONEY? Our original motivation was to bring the same

standards of quality to self-published books as we were used to in the traditional publishing arena. We saw the potential to add a lot of value to self-publishing authors in all aspects from design to distribution.

HOW IS SELF PUBLISHING DIFFERENT / MORE OR LESS CHALLENGING THAN TRADITIONAL PUBLISHING ROUTES?

It’s less challenging in the sense that it’s open and accessible to all. In every other aspect I think it’s more challenging. Traditional publishers – and their experienced staff - hold an author’s hand through all aspects of the book’s creation from editing to design to marketing, publicity and all the operational and logistical aspects of publishing a book. To one degree or another, a self-publisher needs to grapple with that herself.

WHY THE NAME ‘CAPTAIN HONEY’? When we decided to

leave HarperCollins, the metaphor of a ‘perfect storm’ was often being used to describe the events that were colluding against traditional print publishing at that time (ebooks, retail closures, paper prices, the US dollar etc). This gave rise to the idea of being ‘captain’s of our own ship’, and the honey part was just a little bit of sweetness really. I’m surprised how often people try to sell us cheap honey though.
