Splendour itself kicks off on Thursday afternoon, with The XX headlining Friday’s epic playing schedule, and LCD Soundsystem wrapping up the fest on Sunday. If you’re not headed out to North Byron Parklands, consider a fancy lunch at Newybar’s Harvest, which launches the first of its ‘world tour’ lunch series this weekend. This Saturday it’s all about Vietnam, with Harvest’s chef Si taking diners on an interactive journey through the streets of Vietnam including matched beverages for $85 per person.

I guess the first thing to ask you Sir, is are you single? Do you want to be? The Shire is full of ye olde males who work hard on strengthening their yin or feminine energies with their natural blokey yang vibes, and I applaud you in your support of Grandmother Moon. Do I want to make out with you though? Probably not. The key here is balance. If you're sharing what you had in your organic breakfast whilst kicking back around a fire more than actually chopping the firewood, or spending more time omming with your buddies than oggling women, or happen to find yourself outdoors under a full moon without a footy in your hands, we don't wanna know. Yes, the rise of the sacred masculine movement is a bit like moon circling, just a lot more bogan.

DEAR KEENWA,

To Splendour or not to Splendour? I'm still recovering from last year. And what to wear? Bender Brain

DEAR BENDER BRAIN,

Look, I had a little look around at possible alternatives for you, there's the Mud Festival in Korea, or the jumping over sleeping baby festival in Spain. The one I'm considering is in Japan, the Kanamara Matsuri Festival which celebrates all things phallic. Then I realised you only have to roll outta bed in your pjs and gumboots and walk to the end of your street where a damn bus will take you and your muddy sleeping baby to see all of the above for a single entry fee at Splendour. I advise you to wear something phallic perhaps.

HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

H IN GOT SOMET

G TO SAY?

GREAT QUALITY PAYS, ANONYMOUS Kudos to the very few eating establishments in town (dwindling number btw) that STILL are using great quality products and putting effort into what they serve their customers. In the last 12 months I have noticed how so many are now cutting corners (and I presume costs) to deliver really disappointing meals. Please ... have some pride, keep up the quality, we have so many amazing farmers markets with awesome fresh product and by keeping the focus on the experience, not the $, it always works best in the long run.

YOU KNOW WHAT I MISS ABOUT BYRON, BORDERLINE BANANA BENDER They say you gotta go there to come back. After spending a few months in the burbs of Brissie I was happy to get by Byron back on. I was happy to swap Westfield Mall for Jonson Street, happy to swap admittedly cheaper eating options for better chow, happy to swap giant, tasteless supermarket bananas for smaller, tasty local ones. Happy to swap endless traffic lights for Ewingsdale road, happy to swap concrete river walks (quite nice actually) for the whales and dolphins. I like Brissie but I heart Byron.

HEAVILY Meditated With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra THANKS ARE THE HIGHEST FORM OF THOUGHT “I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” - G.K. Chesterton Reminder: Press pause to give thanks for the all the many blessings in your life. In particular, the people. Thank the people who wrap their love and support around you every day. The unexpected gift dropped at your doorstep. The text. The listening and notetaking when you tell a story. The freshly mopped floor. The bunch of daisies. The healing hand. The truth telling. The kiss. The laughing at your jokes. The kindness of having your groceries carried for you. These are ways people say "I love you." And to all of the many ways you’re shown love every day, be sure to say thank you. Say thank you for the effort. Thank you for the time. Thank you for elevating my thoughts. For lighting my lamp with loving. For pouring over me with kindness. Thank you for filling my heart with wonder and amazement. Show, write and speak your thanks as many times as you can because gratitude elevates your thinking. And elevated thinking upgrades your vibration. And upgraded vibrations are an invitation for more of the good stuff. In other words, being grateful will give you even more to be grateful for. Now go get high on gratitude!

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

FROM THURSDAY UNTIL SATURDAY, SUN

and Mars unite in family-oriented Cancer and form a square to Uranus; this is perfect for bringing fresh energy into your home and family life. What about some home renovations, or just a general clean up, or an exciting family outing? Unplanned events that upset your comfort-zone might also occur... From early Sunday onwards Mars and Sun have fun in Leo, where they play together until early August. During Sunday’s New Moon la Luna joins the pair. With four personal planets in Leo the fiery, bossy and proud side of Leo will be as much out there as the magnanimous, warm and protective side. During the next few days it is very easy to tap into your creative and playful potential, just be aware of selfcentred tendencies, especially if you already have a lot of fire in your chart. Venus in Gemini is opposing Saturn in Sagittarius (exact on Tuesday) and it might be difficult to reach agreements or keep commitments due to egoistical tendencies, or simply because of the overwhelming need to be free. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The 6 of Disks promises success and the fire planet lineup of this week may inspire you to manifest your best. Your resourcefulness, confidence and inner authority are clearly seen as leadership skills by others and you might be asked to step into a mentor or adviser role.

h TAURUS

The 9 of Wands asks for stamina and perseverance, which are two very archetypical characteristics of the bull anyway. You interpret any small hurdles or setbacks as a sign to try harder, and use them as a motivation for tapping into hidden reserves that keep you going. Giving up is not your style.

i GEMINI

The 10 of Wands symbolises a stagnant state of holding back which could make twins feel quite uneasy. You may have been over-extending yourself and shouldering some extra burdens; or you might feel limited in a situation where you think you have to bite your tongue. Ask yourself what would happen if you claim your power and remove yourself from self-imposed oppression?

j CANCER

The 4 of Disks describes the dilemma you face when you have to define and assert your boundaries. On the one hand it feels right to be in charge and set limits, but on the other hand you may worry about how you are being perceived or judged by the people you put in their place.

BY GISELA

k LEO

With up to four planets in your sign and the Queen of Cups drawn you might have to balance quite opposing forces within yourself this week. Part of you is fired up and wants to be totally out there, seen, heard and acknowledged, while another part of you is extremely sensitive and feels vulnerable about what you experience. Trust that you can show these feelings too.

l VIRGO

The 10 of Swords represents the dark forces of negative self-judgment that can creep up on you so easily if you are not totally aware of what you are thinking. Your tendency to be a slave to your perfectionism surely compounds the feelings of not being good enough. Try to give yourself a daily dose of unconditional love and appreciation, best applied early in the morning.

a LIBRA The Ace of Wands symbolises concentrated, hot and passionate energy, which needs to be directed towards a worthwhile cause. It may manifest as a surge of creative energy or as enthusiasm, confidence and courage towards the objects of your affection. Your vitality and spontaneity are infectious!

b SCORPIO

The 10 of Cups promises emotional contentment and satisfaction this week. Your cup is full and overflowing and you radiate well-being and benevolence. Family, friends and like-minded groups take centre-stage and a lot of your time; you might get less work done but you surely enjoy yourself!

c SAGITTARIUS

The Chariot speaks of a new beginning, a time of self-assertion and determination. Nothing can distract you from your path right now. Therefore you are bound to succeed on your quest for creating new realities that reflect, expand and deepen your true nature and purpose. Allow your gut-feeling to guide you.

d CAPRICORN

The Star Tarot card indicates that the time is right to actualise your creative ideas and make dreams concrete. Your radiance and confidence persuade other people to trust you and offer you opportunities. As you recognise these, projects that are dear to your heart can be advanced easily and almost magically.

e AQUARIUS

The Judgment Tarot card challenges you to focus on the bigger picture this week. From this perspective some little things might not feel so bothersome, enabling you to make an honest appraisal of a complex situation. You are gifted with clear perception and the ability to communicate your inner wisdom. Your counsel may be important in family or business affairs.

f PISCES

The 5 of Swords describes a well-known inner conflict that is symbolised by the glyph of the Fishes as two parts of the whole wanting to move in opposing directions, which leads to paralysis. This week circumstances make it very clear to you that non-action or withholding your energy does not necessarily bring better results than courageously making a stand and taking action.

BY @THE.POOR.GIRLS.PANTRY The Poor Girls Pantry are all about two girls with very little money and huge appetites. They became friends a few years ago when we started working together at Spell. Initially not getting along, their love for food and passion for eating brought them together, now they are practically joined at the hip! The Poor Girls Pantry started as an Instagram account, and is rapidly growing into a flourishing online business, which is helping fulfil their dream of helping people.

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees fan forced. Grease muffin tins with coconut oil. • Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs (chia optional), then stir through the almond milk and maple syrup. • Combine wet and dry mix into one bowl, mixing until it becomes a smooth batter. Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Sammy K, @CLUBRAIDERS WHAT’S THE MOST EXCITING PART ABOUT PLAYING SPLENDOUR FOR 2017? The most exciting part about playing this year would be getting to enjoy the festival with all our friends who are also playing on the same stage. It really makes the vibe that much better when everyone is involved and playing.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DJ STYLE/SET? My style

of music is on the tech house side with some sneaky bass and heavier tracks thrown in and around the mix. For my set this year I’m playing B2B with local legend RHYS BYNON so expect some fun dress ups, high fives and a few other little surprises we have up our sleeves.

WHAT CAN SPLENDOUR-GOERS EXPECT TO SEE AT THE SMIRNOFF LOUNGE? We have a double headliner with

COLOUR CASTLE and LO'99. These two artists are at the top of the Australian music scene. We’ve also invited some of Byron Bay’s best producers and DJS to the stage. We have also asked our good friends from Sydney, Audiopaxx DJs and YOUR PARADISE DJS to come and join the party. We start from 12pm and there will be clean crispy house from then, rolling into the afternoon and really turning the fan up in the late afternoon

WHICH ACT CAN WE NOT MISS OUT ON AT SPLENDOUR? King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I got the chance to watch them last year and it’s still one of the best live sets I’ve seen. With the double drummers, the guitarists, vocals, they are so talented and put on the best show. For anyone who hasn’t seen them live. They're a must. They keep you dancing from start to finish.

Splendour runs 21st-23rd July at the North Byron Parklands BYRON BAZAAR
