H IN GOT SOMET

G TO SAY?

PLEASE STOP THE WHINING!, SUPER HAPPY LONG TIME Every time I step out of the house I overhear a disgruntled local whining about the state of the roads, the tourist's invading our town, the big commercial companies buying in, that horrible west Byron development. Enough is enough guys. If you want some change, start talking about positive change and actioning some of those points rather than obnoxiously beating down on those that fund your life in this stunning place we call home. Whining in the local supermarket just loud enough so that our visitors get a spray of negativity just doesnt help. Im a local too, have been for a very long time and you know what, growth is inevitable! Guess what, the shire of "fertility and love" inevitably results in more babies right, who then grow up? They need infastructure, and jobs, and opportunity. So pop something medicinal in that pipe and slow down, chill out and for the love all things CHEER UP!

PLASTIC FREE PARTICIPANTS, CAITLIN WEATHERSTONE I'd like to give a shout out to all those who participated in Plastic Free July this month! It's damn hard - there's plastic everywhere, even hidden in our toothpaste, chewing gum, clothes fibres, corn chip packets and our organic, fair trade, cruelty-free beauty products! And if, like me, you totally failed by the second day, it at least has highlighted how insidious the clear stuff is and how as a society we all need to band together to do something about it before it ends up in the ocean choking our lovely whales #plasticfreebyron #plasticfreelife

DEAR KEENWA,

My hubbie and I have moved to The Bay from Melbourne to give our baby the wholesome life that Byron is famous for. I've already eliminated gluten and dairy from his diet, and add turmeric to everything, but attachment parenting? What gives? Is it really the best thing for our kids? Free-range Change

DEAR FREE-RANGE CHANGE,

Here’s a fun fact for you; Attachment parenting was coined in the 80's by a man who shares the same birthday as Star Trek's Lieutenant Commander Worf. Back even further than that in the good ol’ Inca days when my quinoa ancestors were planted, animals and even human children were sacrificed to honour our good health and to ensure a long life, but these days I'm just another pseudo grain, left out in the full sun and thrown the occasional water. And look how well I’ve turned out. A few coconut waters a day, and a crapload of Byron sunshine, and I’m sure your babe will be just as good.

DEAR KEENWA,

My brother-in-law is a mechanic, he knows his stuff but he's not cheap. I've started seeing another mechanic, closer to home and more homely on the wallet. I'm so scared the BIL will bust me at next Sunday's family BBQ. Should I confess to cheating before I'm caught? Rego is coming up. Family Law

DEAR FAMILY LAW,

A wise man once suggested not to shit where you sleep which I unfortunately remembered way too long after I was utilizing my brother-in-law's skills as a gynaecologist. I'm no longer married and he's no longer practicing. Some things are just better left outside the family or as Kanye says on family business, "Somebody please say grace so I can save face and have a reason to cover my face."

HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

HEAVILY Meditated With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra YOUR POWER IS IN THE PRESENT If we’re tethered to the past, we’re stuck in regret. And if we’re fixated on the future, we’re leaning into expectation. Or there’s the double whammy of past and future fixation called Fear Of Failure. Which puts the brakes on creativity, inspiration, selfevolution and satisfaction faster than you can say “perfectionist.” So we’re either beating ourselves up, or setting our sights on the future, or both. And in the meantime, we’re miserable or paralysed, or unfulfilled, or just-getting-by, or all of the above. The good news is there’s another path. The present. Why is aligning yourself with the present such a potent practice? It’s where the power is.

ADVERTISE HERE 02 6680 7158

You can’t change what happened last week. And you can’t mortgage your happiness on some projected future outcome. But you can impact your NOW. When you prioritise presence, you free yourself from the debt of regret, unchain yourself from expectancy, and empower yourself to make this moment matter. And when this moment matters above all else, you make choices in line with your highest good. You feel more satisfied. You keep perspective. You take responsibility for your life. You move through challenges and frustrations with grace instead of grit. And all of this adds up to a brighter future. Minus the anxiety of expectation. Tune into the power of now.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY SUN AND MARS UNITE

in fiery Leo, a highly creative but also explosive liaison that takes centre-stage until Monday. It is a marvellous time for fun and games, entertaining and self-expression, as long as everyone involved gets equal attention and appreciation. Don’t try to limit anyone who is on their mission; it won’t work and would surely backfire. Your own bossy and authoritarian tendencies have to be curbed if you want to keep peace. This may be easier on Friday and Saturday while the Moon is in Libra, and more difficult while the Moon is in Scorpio from Sunday to Tuesday. Lady Venus moves into caring, receptive and at times moody Cancer on Tuesday, where she resides until the end of August. Home, family, relationships and all sorts of indulgences may consume your time, energy and money. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

Astrology and Tarot Forecast consultations by Gisela FOR AN APPOINTMENT: giselasunshine@gmail.com.au or text 0431 894 408

g ARIES

The Hierophant Tarot card symbolises mature wisdom and leadership. This week he challenges you to master your reactivity and to keep noticing any misalignment between your mind, heart and action. Not an easy task with so much fire in the planetary mix! If you do succeed great spiritual growth is imminent.

h TAURUS

The Priestess draws inspiration from meditation and constantly refines her skills to look beyond the obvious, far into the spiritual realms. She may inspire you to withdraw from too much involvement with others and make room for reflection and introspection. Her guidance may be experienced as your soft, wise and compassionate inner voice.

i GEMINI

The 3 of Swords symbolises the painful re-working of past events and the habitual patterns that have evolved out of these experiences and habits. Negative thinking keeps you preoccupied and trapped in a limited perspective. You can choose to focus on recovery and find a new balance by applying the attitude of gratitude for the things that are working right now.

j CANCER

Lady Venus appreciates beauty, desires sensuality and loves all things homely while she is in Cancer. Combined with the Magician drawn you might feel inspired to redecorate your home, recreate romance in your life or focus on any other heart desire and make it reality. You can create miracles right now because you know when the time is ripe to cast your magic spell.

BY GISELA

k LEO

With the Sun/Mars conjunction in your sign and the 9 of Disks drawn, you invest your fiery energy with such enthusiasm that you hit the mark every time. Your desire-nature is strong and, as much as you need to follow your heart and what has meaning to you, you also need to consider the wants and needs of your nearest and dearest; otherwise you run the risk of annihilating them and your gain turns sour.

l VIRGO

The 9 of Swords indicates that you may feel stuck in self-critical thought-patterns this week. Your tendency to be hard on yourself and try to rework the past is a habit that depletes your energy. As a remedy ask your best friend for genuine feedback and make sure you let it in.

a LIBRA The 10 of Disks indicates a successful week ahead; you may land a deal or create lasting solutions with solid foundations for renewed affluence. It may seem to others as if things fall into place effortlessly, but in reality your excellent communication and organising skills draw the right connections towards you.

b SCORPIO

The Prince of Swords heralds a time to investigate what motivates and drives you but also keeps you stuck in a rut. Some of your habitual actions and reactions might be outdated and not useful any more. There might be great benefit in questioning your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs concerning the situations and circumstances that irritate you most.

c SAGITTARIUS

The Death Tarot card indicates that profound change, renewal and transformation are knocking at your door. This can only be achieved by allowing deconstruction or destruction of the status quo. This rebirth experience is worth it though; trust it and surrender.

d CAPRICORN

The 6 of Swords symbolises your innovative and original ideas. At this time they may be big, bold and beautiful. Assembling a team of like-minded and open-hearted individuals, who work together, can make these ideas become reality. Communication skills and a pioneering spirit are essential.

e AQUARIUS

The 5 of Wands paints a picture of struggle, strife and frustration. Whether you are battling inner or outer demons, right now it is time to step back and let go for a while, in order to gain a greater perspective. Don’t be discouraged by setbacks, soon you’ll find a way beyond restriction and limitation...

f PISCES

The Hermit represents the need to let go of distractions and to temporarily retreat into your own space. Since you are very sensitive to your environment and pick up on other people’s feelings, wants and needs so much, you need time off to recharge your batteries and to listen to your own inner guidance.

FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT A ‘DOULA’ IS PLEASE GIVE US THE LOWDOWN? A doula helps families throughout their childbearing

year. Every doula is different with what they offer. I teach antenatal classes that help couples look forward to birth and feel more confident. I also massage pregnant women to help them feel more relaxed and balanced and ready for birth. As a birth doula, I provide continual care throughout labour so couples feel well supported and empowered during the birth. During postpartum, I help support new mothers so they can nurture their newborn.

YOU OFFER A PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SERVICE, EXPLAIN TO US WHAT PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION IS? Placenta encapsulation is a process where a placenta is prepared for consumption. The placenta is put on ice immediately after birth. It is often steamed, then dehydrated, made into a powder and finally transferred into capsules. The final product looks like a vitamin capsule.

WHAT KIND OF BENEFITS DOES IT BRING TO NEW MUMS? The main benefits

women are reporting are balanced hormones, an increase in milk supply, more energy and overall quicker recovery after giving birth.

RUMOUR IS THAT THE BYRON SHIRE IS A MAGICALLY FERTILE PLACE. DO YOU THINK THIS IS TRUE? Absolutely. There’s something in the water here.

It’s an incredibly beautiful place with a supportive community. In the Byron Shire, people take it literally that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.

WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE TO NEW MUMS? Take things one step at a time and learn to ask for help.
