G TO SAY?

KEEP A CUP LIFE, EMBARASSED LAD How good is the keep a cup movement. I mean the brand nailed it and got in at the best time... But I'm talking about the concept as a whole. Saving on landfill and creating a loving bond with an inanimate object that becomes a part of your morning routine, listens to you, assists you through lifes battles and never gives you any back chat. BUT, there's a problem. I had coffee one on the road and need my second, still on the road. Sorry Mr and Mrs Barista, I hope my apology for the now curdling milk will suffice and you can give my handcrafted clay vessel the handwashing love it so longingly deserves. Ta.

KEEP THRIFTING, ANNETTE BURNS How good are Byron’s weekend garage sales!?! Last weekend I noticed a more then normal amount of makeshift shops set up down Bangalow Road and I was so excited to spend the morning sifting for some new threads. I think it is great that more and more locals are getting together with friends and selling their unwanted treasure and promoting a culture of recycling. So why is it that the Council continuously reign on the parade? I have seen them, driving around shutting people down, even when they seem to be sitting on their own nature strip.

ADVERTISE HERE 02 6680 7158

This weekly ‘thrift store shopping’ is something that I have not seen anywhere else. I believe it brings charm, a sense of community and embodies Byron’s sustainable community practices.

Nothing screams birthday suit less than a toddler birthday part-ay. I suggest getting together 50 of your kid's closest friends, and heading down to said beach on any given day with eskies and matching pink cupcakes. You could also hire a clown, and if that doesn't scare away the nudists, watching the domestics between mum and dad over who forgot the candles, and the sibling rivalry whines over who got the biggest piece of cake, will have them covering up their reproductive organs before you can shout ha-beep hooray!!

DEAR KEENWA,

Quick question: I ran out of certain protective safety equipment last night, you know, the stuff used in relation to unexpected relating? After not much thought, my 'friend' and I put our heads together and decided to use cling wrap in place of it. Our first choice had been that pretty, organic, eco beeswax paper but it just wouldn't have cut it. So... am I safe? I need a response by the end of today. Sticky Business

DEAR STICKY BUSINESS,

How good is that beeswax paper?! It keeps a bowl of quinoa fresh for up to five days in the fridge. That stuff is the business. And how about the prints? Do you think it can make those perfect poached eggs? Speaking of balls, I'd put some yoghurt down there and hope for the best. Whatever you do, don't forget to reseal your yoghurt pot with the beeswax paper.

HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

HEAVILY Meditated With Caitlin Cady

This week's mantra ASKING FOR HELP IS A FORM OF PRAYER. Asking for help is not a display of weakness or proof that you've failed. Asking for help is a courageous confession of the facts as they are. It’s a commitment to the truth and the courage to tell it as it is. It’s giving voice to a desire, hope or wish. It's a display of trust. It’s humility over ego. It’s communion with your community. Above all, asking for help is a form of prayer. Because prayer is all of these things: confession, petition, hope, trust, communion. Prayer is sometimes please and sometimes thank you, and usually both. Prayer is an invitation for love. By asking for help you are issuing a divine invitation - giving someone else the opportunity to serve and share their gifts. This exchange of giving and receiving help brings us closer to together because telling the truth (that we need each other + that we are in this together) is raw, and irresistible, and magnetic. Sharing the gifts of our strengths lightens the burdens of our weaknesses. Giving and receiving help in any form is a redirection of the abundance of unique resources bestowed on each of us. What is more beautiful, more divine than that? So let's stop shaming ourselves out of telling the truth. Let's stop the self-judgement and shut down the belief that we have to do it all on our own. Because you can't do everything. You aren't good at everything. You’re meant to ask for help. And you're meant to pitch in and share your gifts. Both are noble. Both are necessary. Both are in service of the divine.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY, WHILE YOU MIGHT STILL

feel the after-effects of the strong and watery Full Moon in Pisces, la Luna unites with the asteroid Chiron keeping sensitivity, intuition and receptivity at an all-time high. A Sun/Pluto earth trine is building and exact on Saturday, while within hours, the Moon forms an opposition to Jupiter and a conjunction with Uranus. What a potent weekend! There could be sudden surprises, and the outpouring of strong emotions attracts intense experiences. These may be the catalyst for a chain of events or insights that shed light into dark and hidden areas of your psyche. Transformation and rebirth on a grand scale are possible. On Sunday Mercury, who went direct just a few days ago, moves into Virgo again; this may help you to analyse what’s going on and create some order out of chaos. Some folks may still need time to recover on Monday. If possible, start your working week slowly and ease yourself into it. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

With the 7 of Cups drawn you may wish for things to be different, but somehow you lack the determination for making meaningful and long-lasting changes right now. Meanwhile you might be trying to get satisfaction from building castles in the sky. Ask yourself which habits have outlived their use-by date.

The highly romantic notions of last week are over and with the 5 of Cups drawn, there is a need to deal with any disappointments that have occurred. If you feel empty, lost or unfulfilled, you might find condolence in the fact that your longing can be a powerful transformative agent, especially on the weekend.

The Princess of Wands values personal freedom and spontaneous self-expression much more than safety and security. With her support you won’t hold back and you may want to bring some fresh air into any stale affair. The weekend is extremely potent for personal transformation.

The 10 of Disks promises inner and outer riches, abundance and prosperity. It all starts with building your self-worth and truly believing that you deserve it. With Sun, Mercury and Mars in your sign you may finally enjoy watching the fruits of your hard labour ripening – it’s harvest time!

i GEMINI

a LIBRA

The Princess of Disks represents the forces of the Goddess in her gestation phase. The creative process, with the goal of giving birth to the new, is already activated. Now it is just a matter of patience and perseverance to allow the ripening to take place in its own time. Whatever your big plan is, it’s progressing well...

The 8 of Wands indicates a fast-paced week; especially during the weekend you may jump into action in some unexpected way. You might have to make quick decisions, which could be stressful because you can identify with all sides, but if you act quickly and communicate clearly great things can come about.

j CANCER

b SCORPIO

The 3 of Disks promises success if you channel all your effort into your chosen objective. Clear intentions, commitment to the cause and a willingness to set priorities are needed. Your main motivation may be the desire to make your life more secure and your world more stable.

With the Hanged Man Tarot card drawn you may not be in the mood to interact with the world. Instead you might need time to reflect on important issues; there are many more options, solutions and perspectives to consider, than those you are currently invested in. Maybe you can identify repetitive patterns that limit or restrict your growth.

c SAGITTARIUS

When the Tower appears it is time to surrender and realise that you have much less control over certain situations than you wish for. You may have your plans interrupted and find yourself thrown into chaos. Whatever your wakeup call is, eventually this experience deepens your sense of authenticity and the way you can be present with others.

d CAPRICORN

The 7 of Swords symbolises an entrapment in self-sabotaging thought patterns. In combination with the transformational astro flavour of this week, an opportunity may present itself, when it becomes crystal-clear to you how you manufacture negative outcomes through excessive negative thinking and obsessive ‘whatif’ scenarios that you create in your mind. Watch for the silver lining of your experience.

e AQUARIUS

The 4 of Swords represents your longing for peace of mind. You may feel overwhelmed by an inner or outer conflict that preoccupies you and saps your energy. The truth of the matter is that if you don’t have enough influence or power to create a victory of your liking, you might have to be content with a truce.

f PISCES

The Knight of Swords pictures a rider on a horse that gallops forward as fast as possible. This may be a breathless week of decisive action and change for the better. You are on a roll, and with your flexible but direct approach you might be off into uncharted territory. You act with a certainty that is convincing and gets results.

#CINEMAFORTHESENSES 11th Annual Byron Bay Film Festival 6TH - 15TH OCTOBER | MULTIPLE VENUES The 11th Annual Byron Bay Film Festival will held on Friday 6 – Sunday 15 October 2017 in multiple venues throughout Byron Bay and surrounding suburbs making it the largest regional film festival in Australia. The Festival has been a pioneer and leader in the burgeoning Byron Bay innovation movement, which has created countless entrepreneurial and industrial opportunities for the creative industries and beyond. Last year the festival attracted some of the film world’s top names – including A-listers Idris Elba, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Hiddleston, who said it was “certainly the best film festival in Australia”. The festival made its stamp on the international calendar, and as it has done every year, increased its international reach. This year will feature a diverse line-up from of over 175 independent films with documentaries, drama and comedy from some of the most remote corners of the world, as well as the best from young Australian film-makers. Move seamlessly from one world into another: dry off, brush the sand from your feet, and step into the infinite universe of the cinema, to be transported to another place and time. The program including the parties, the meet-thestars and film-makers events, the workshops, music, action will be released over the coming weeks. More information on this can be found on the festival website. www.bbff.com.au

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Nimbin Roots, @NIMBINROOTSFESTIVAL WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC CAN PEOPLE EXPECT FORM THE LINE-UP? Nimbin Roots Festival celebrates original,

organic underground Roots music. We've chosen based on their originality and ability to reach out through their music and grab the listener. We believe that people need to hear new music and artists need to be able to present it. It's our job to facilitate that by thinking outside the square and billing acts that you don't see at every other festival.

HOW IS NIMBIN ROOTS FESTIVAL WORKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY? Two of our venues are solar powered

by Rainbow Power Company. We also operate with as minimal footprint as possible. We don't have grand stages with excess lighting and deco.

WHAT MAKES NIMBIN SUCH A SPECIAL PLACE TO HOST A FESTIVAL? The Aquarius festival in 1973 really set

the tone for the alternate hippie movement in this whole area. Since then, Nimbin is probably the only town left in the area that has stayed as true to that as possible. We feel like we’re re igniting that Aquarius spirit and endorsing Nimbin as a beautiful, down to earth place with alternate minded people, enjoying music and life for all the real reasons.

APART FROM MUSIC WHAT ELSE CAN FESTIVALGOERS EXPECT? The Aquarius markets will run on Saturday and Sunday in the community centre grounds. You'll find hand made designs and recycled clothing plus yum food.

HOW DO WE GET TICKETS? Tickets are available to

purchase on the website www.nrfest.com and for all the event info please see the website and facebook.
