G TO SAY?
(IN RESPONSE TO RIP MACS ISSUE #153), ANONYMOUS To the person who wrote in last week about Mac’s Milk Bar closing down, I had the same concerns as you until I found out that the owner is a life long Byron local who cares deeply about this town and only bought it so the bleak scenario you described doesn’t happen. I’ve been assured that it is going to be a place that serves the community, supports locals and honours the iconic location. Not to worry!
(IN RESPONSE TO COFFEE CUP WOES ISSUE #153), SHERIDAN TONSCHECK Dear Lisa, I smelt something too, but it was more like the stench of landfill, and dying fish and turtles that choked on coffee cup lids in the ocean... or maybe it was the decay of social responsibility and ethical morality. But I can help you out! Soak your legendary keep-cup in some bi-carb soda or eucalyptus oil, should do the trick! Alternatively, next time your caffeine craving hits, put your feet up and relax for 5mins at one of our many hipster cafés and enjoy your Byron Bay magic beans in a ceramic cup (most good cafés should have these old things). You totally deserve 5mins of blissful plastic free you-time! (If not, I would be empathetically concerned about your well-being and self-care). Light, love, and less-waste
Congrats Sheridan
Your submission has won you a pair of Mennie socks! Email hello@byronbazaar.com to claim your prize.

DEAR KEENWA,
I'm going through a mega rough patch at the moment and have been holding it together quite well, until I get home where it all seems to hit me at once. This morning however, my flatmate banged on my bedroom door, and asked me to stop crying as she felt I was overstepping her psychic boundaries, and that I was affecting her quality of life with my insensitive display of emotion. How can I honour her and process my problems at the same time? Rent Swap Share
DEAR RENT SWAP SHARE, Of course she is right, emotions are contagious! It is your responsibility, and everybody else's to make sure she lives a fulfilling reality. Why not make her a lovely cup of toughen the hell up each morning, and whilst you're at it, iron her outfit for the day? Something dreamy and gypsy-looking, and well equipped for her day job of spiritual bypassing, which we all know is just narcissism in a suit.
DEAR KEENWA,
I love dancing. There are so many great classes in the Shire, problem is, I'm there to actually shake my booty, not pickup some. If I open my eyes after having a moment, and find an eager face in mine one more time, i'll chuck a hissy fit. How do I let the prowlers know to leave their nightclub antics at the door? Dance Stance
DEAR DANCE STANCE,
Right, so since you're a dancer you'll know all about using your body to communicate The Message. First thing's, first. Get those big spaghetti arms out in front of you, and claim your space babes. For the entire duration of the class. Don't wear deodorant. As we learnt in Flashdance, when you give up your dream, you die. Boundaries will be yours one day, because remember this babes, nobody puts baby in a corner. Nobody.
HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

This week's mantra YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO RUSH! Overwhelmed? In a rush? Don't have time? But first....coffee/inbox/start the laundry? Scratch that. Here's the truth: Life happens fast. You don't have time to rush. Remind yourself how precious your attention is, how fleeting the moments of our life are. Some moments feel like an eternity, a trial of patience. But overall, the years pass at lightning speed, blink (or be distracted) and you miss it. You can't press pause on the joy or fast forward through the challenges. All you can do is be in it and pay attention as it unfolds, soaking up each detail of each moment with every cell in your body. So… Saturate yourself in presence. Record every moment in your heart. Life happens fast. You don't have time to rush.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
FRIDAY IS AN UPBEAT AND OPTIMISTIC
day. La Luna pays her monthly visit to Jupiter in Libra; balancing and harmonising different ideas becomes emotionally gratifying, and might give you a sense of safety and well-being. Therefore it is a great day for meetings, discussions and conferences. However by the evening this comfortable bubble might burst when the Moon opposes Uranus, the great mover and shaker! On Friday and Saturday a Mercury/ Pluto trine might unearth any hidden or neglected information. The Spring Equinox (day and night are equally long) takes place on Saturday with the Sun’s ingress into Libra. The next couple of days are perfect for inviting spring into your garden, e.g. fertilising and planting. Monday is a highly spirited day; ideas, ideals and beliefs might clash; it’s better to avoid big, fundamental discussions today! This is especially important, because otherwise you might have to deal with the fallout during the Mercury/Saturn square on Tuesday, which increases the tendency of negative, obsessive and judgemental thinking. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
With the Hierophant drawn, this week you adopt the stance of a leader or ‘The Wise One’. While others may get reactive, you stay cool and collected with your attention on the bigger picture. Your inner equilibrium and spaciousness for the problems of others, make you a great adviser (wait until you are asked for it though).
h TAURUS
The 9 of Wands fits the Bull perfectly; resilience, perseverance and stamina are so much part of his character anyway. This week you may discover a new facet of these ingrained traits and how to apply them for manifesting your creative potential. Balancing your yin and yang energy brings optimum experience.
i GEMINI
The 5 of Disks indicates that your mind is working overtime. Even though you know that worrying about worstcase scenarios that hardly ever occur is a waste of time and energy, you might have difficulty shaking off your obsessive, negative thinking. Every time you do get aware of it, take a couple of deep breaths and focus with gratitude on the parts of your life that are working out just fine.
j CANCER
The 9 of Disks indicates a week to relax in your comfort zone and appreciate the finer things in life that you easily manifest when you know what you want, and are open to receive graciously. This openness acts like a magical portal of attraction and comes into existence when you align yourself with the principles of benevolence, well-being and prosperity.
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Temperance Tarot card demands a certain emotional and mental discipline and asks for moderation on all levels. This week things work out better for you if you avoid excess and overstimulation. It’s not the time to push ahead forcefully, it’s rather the time to blend and balance apparent polarities or strange paradoxes and to focus on the bigger picture.
l VIRGO
With Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in your sign this week and the Princess of Disks drawn, your creative manifestation power is highlighted. You can pave the path for a new identity, a new project or new levels of self-appreciation and gratitude. Now is the time to tap into your strength and power to give birth to a new you.
a LIBRA
The Prince of Wands is often called Prince Charming and, especially on Friday, you may advance a situation that is dear to your heart. Be courageous, take a chance and don’t fret over taking a risk. You can manifest your best through inspired, passionate action. This is not the time to hesitate!
b SCORPIO
The Knight of Swords symbolises determination and decisiveness that give you wings to fly. If you choose to head in a new direction you are unstoppable. Even if you act slightly prematurely, things will work out because of your passionate heart, your alert and sharp mind, and your focused will power.
c SAGITTARIUS
With the Magician drawn, magical times are ahead. This week it pays off to utilise all your combined tools, skills and resources to make a dream become reality. Travel, network and connect with key people who can share and believe in your vision.
d CAPRICORN
The Emperor personifies structure, stability and masculine leadership. When these qualities are utilised and applied to your business or pet project, they empower and serve others as well as yourself. The time is ripe to contemplate a new beginning with revitalised determination.
e AQUARIUS
The 2 of Swords symbolises inner peace. You might try to desperately and stubbornly hold onto it, but right now it is unwise to ignore new developments or to resist any facts that are surfacing. Your equilibrium might be upset, whether you like it or not; best to look your new reality right in the eye.
f PISCES
The Queen of Disks represents mature, earthy femininity and the wisdom that comes with growing experience. She invites you to reconnect with your body and listen to its needs and signals. It may be time to pay more attention to your physical, not only your spiritual needs.

Q&A A Q U IC K C H
Macy Gray, @MACYGRAYDAY WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU IN BYRON BAY. HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE? Yes. I played all throughout Australia. Pretty sure it was 2015 when I last played. I absolutely love Byron Bay!
WE HEAR YOU HAVE A BIT OF A LOVE AFFAIR WITH AUSTRALIA, IS THIS TRUE? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT? The culture, the
food, the people! Everything is just amazing! It's places like Byron Bay that still motivate me to be creative as an artist to make new music and tour around, so I can see amazing places like this. The shows and crowds are always great!!
CAN YOU TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN UP TO THE PAST FEW YEARS? I have been doing a ton. Most recently put out a live jazz album called "Stripped". It was recorded in an abandoned church in Brooklyn, New York and was recorded in a day and a half. So I spent the better half of 2017 touring and promoting the album, playing mostly in EU and playing headline shows and big festivals. During down time from touring and promoting "stripped" I have also been in the studio working on my new studio album. It's very close to being finished and it's going to blow everybody away.
A T W IT H .. .
YOU HAVE JUST COME OFF A MONTH LONG TOUR IN EUROPE EARLIER THIS YEAR. WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT? The EU tour in general was a highlight, but playing festivals like Montreux Jazz Festival and Afro Punk Paris were incredible. I just want to say thanks for all the promoters in EU for embracing me and my music.
WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT FROM YOUR PERFORMANCE AT THE BEACH HOTEL? Since I'm doing a DJ set along with a live
performance, It's going to be a little different obviously but of course amazing at the same time. As an artist these days, I feel like its important to not get stuck in routines and give fans a different look. When the new album is out, that tour will be completely different then this run for sure.
‘I TRY’ FROM YOUR DEBUT ALBUM WAS SUCH AN ICONIC SONG IN THE LATE 90’S. WILL YOU BE PLAYING IT? PLEASE? You will have to come to the show and find out :)
WHERE ARE YOU OFF TO NEXT? I just arrived in Bali for a show and after Australia, I'm back to the states for a couple festival gigs. I'm mostly focused right now on finishing the new album. Just wait for it!! Also, the holidays are around the corner, so maybe do something cool around then, but it's a hush hush for now.
Macy plays at The Beach Hotel on the 28th September. For tickets and info go to oztix.com or The Beach Hotel bottle shop.
