Festival returns to the bay this week, with today’s highlights including an art show at the RVCA Gallery on Jonson St (5-7pm) and an audience with the likes of Stephanie Gilmore in the Surf Legends Lounge at the Community Centre (6:309pm). The fest’s Sunset Cinema returns to Denning Park on Friday at 6:30pm, with the Surf Art Markets taking over the beachfront park on Saturday (9am-5pm). Elsewhere in town, there’s a #StopAdani film night at the Brunswick Picture House tonight at 7pm which will include screenings of Guarding the Galilee, a documentary narrated by Michael Caton, and the new follow-up doco A Mighty Force (tickets $10). Come Sunday, the Brewery will see none other than Infected Mushroom – all the way from Israel – hit the decks alongside a raft of other top electro acts during its Green Acres showcase from 2-10pm. At press time second release tickets were still available ($45 via Eventbrite), but you’d better be quick.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THESE ARE EXTREMELY PISCEAN DAYS!
Until the 6th of March Sun, Mercury, Venus, Chiron and Neptune swim in this cosmic soup and we are immersed in it! A Venus/Neptune conjunction (exact on Thursday) is profoundly inspiring, and it is a marvellous time to dive deeply into your favourite creative endeavour. All things and experiences connected to your heartdesires and longing for oneness are feeling very urgent now. An amicable sextile from Mercury to Saturn (also exact on Thursday) might assist you to find direction and a bit of practical grounding. During the weekend inner tensions might rise, especially if you have been feeling discontent in a relationship for a while. Paradoxical, opposing feelings can also be very confusing, and it becomes seemingly impossible to articulate grievances in a way that the other can understand. Monday to Wednesday, are the better days of this week to get things done, even though the emotional tide stays extremely high. Maybe you find new ways to cope and stay in touch with your deep feelings, while being able to function in the ‘real’ world as well. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The Justice Tarot card is perfect for this cosmic and watery week! It reminds you to find inner alignment and balance before you strike out in grand action. Sometimes this takes a little time and effort but it surely saves you from back-paddling later on.
h TAURUS
The 3 of Cups symbolises the wonderful, heart-opening feelings that a gathering with like-minded people, may it be family, friends or work-colleagues, brings. Suddenly mutual support is available and enriching for everyone. Belonging and having your rightful place in your clan or group means a lot to you this week.
i GEMINI
With the 4 of Disks drawn for this week you might wish to set more clear boundaries for others. This may be the only way for you to keep at least some control over what is happening. Nevertheless you may keep feeling slightly overwhelmed and confused. Don’t worry, it will pass too…
j CANCER The 10 of Cups symbolises mental/emotional/spiritual fullness that makes your heart sing. Stay in this positive flow of energy, count your blessings and share your delight with others. May your serenity radiate out into the world to make it a brighter place!
BY GISELA
k LEO
c SAGITTARIUS
l VIRGO
d CAPRICORN
The Magician embodies the powers of concentration, determination and utter confidence. Equipped with these you produce magical results while absolutely having a ball. Your communication skills and your charm may open doors and your creative output is at an all-time high. Enjoy the ride!
The 8 of Wands indicates that you may have too many pots on the fire to give due attention to all of them. In your haste conversations may become confusing, facts go under and misunderstandings arise. You get better results if you set priorities and stick to them.
a LIBRA
The 3 of Wands symbolises your longing for inner harmony, that feeling of alignment of body, mind and soul. You can’t strive for it or fight for it; it is rather a matter of allowing it in and accepting it gracefully into your life. Being at ease and in the flow of things are great indicators for coming closer to your ideal state of equilibrium.
b SCORPIO
The Knight of Swords urges you to move forward fast which might be difficult during this emotional and watery week! Even if you are very sharp, alert and decisive the world might not respond to your passionate probing as quickly as you want. In hindsight this might turn out as a blessing…
The 5 of Wands represents your irritations, perceived limitations and setbacks. You need to find a way to express your frustrations; otherwise you get bogged down in resentment. If you withhold your energy on one level it restricts your creative output and your zest for life on every other level too.
With the Wheel of Fortune drawn big things can happen this week. You are at the right place and your timing is impeccable; therefore thing may fall into place exactly as you visualised. Some people may say it’s just good luck; only you know how much hard work had to be accomplished in the background to get that far…
e AQUARIUS
The Fool Tarot card indicates your readiness for a new chapter of your life. He challenges you to dust yourself off, reinvent yourself and take a courageous step into the unknown. Take a risk, leap towards the unknown and trust that you are going to land in one piece.
f PISCES
For the second consecutive week, the Moon Tarot card adds another layer of confusion and maybe illusion to the already extremely ‘fishy’, slippery and controversial astro flavour of this week. It works best for you if you stay immersed in the creative and/ or spiritual realms. Just don’t make any big, life-changing decisions right now.

This week's review
TITLE: The First Forty Days: The Essential Art Of
Nourishing The New Mother AUTHOR: Heng Ou NUMBER OF PAGES: 224 EST. READ TIME: 4 hours and 33 minutes (if you read every recipe word-for-word) PRICE: $35.99
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The book is full of guidance and
inspiration on how to draw from traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese practices and create a nourishing, restorative postpartum period. Protocols on which foods are best for a new mama, recipes that are easy to digest and deeply restorative, and plenty of permission to rest well and not rush back out into the world.
WHO IT'S FOR: First time mamas, plus second or third
time mothers who want to do things differently this time. Midwives and doulas will also be down with this book.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: It’s basically a big fat
permission slip to rest, ask for help and be still. What mother doesn’t want (and need) that? This book offers practical guidelines, recipes and reclaimed wisdom that women need now more than ever. Once you’ve read it, pass it on to your own parents, inlaws and your baby-daddy so they can get with the program, too.
NOTABLE QUOTE: “Somehow, a pervasive idea has spread
in modern times that the mum who is out and about soonest with her baby is somehow the strongest, like an episode of Survivor. For some type-A parents, it’s almost a badge of honour to say you made it to yoga after two weeks, snuck off to the office for a meeting, or flew with your infant across time zones. But that’s all upside down - in a healthy postpartum period, it’s she who stays still that wins the prize!” This week's review written by Caitlin Nowland.

This week's mantra
BE ALL OF YOU.
I have spent part of my life trying to dampen my fire. Prioritising people’s comfort over my own. Dancing through life worried that I might step on toes. Turning down the volume of my voice in an attempt of being more subtle or subdued. But I was not made to be subtle. I believe in practicing loving kindness. I strive to cultivate patience and to move with grace. I practice gratitude. I believe in amplifying the harmony, peace, love and compassion in this world. And I try to live those principles. But I also believe in telling your truth. In speaking your mind. In honouring yourself by making yourself understood. I believe in having opinions and using them. I believe in admitting when you’re wrong. I refuse to hide my fierceness. My strength. My capability. My courage. I refuse to dull down my shine. I’m not perfect but I am passionate. And opinionated. If we disagree we can still be friends. But we can’t be friends if I can’t be myself. So call me loud or call me colourful. Call me bossy or call me assertive. Call me blunt or call me clear. Call me opinionated or call me outspoken. You can call it like you see it. I just call me, ME. And I want to be all of me. I invite you to join me. Come stand before the world, just as you are. In the full glory of your uniquely you, you-ness. Messy, magical, marvellous you. I love you like that.

DEAR KEENWA, I've been away pursuing my music career overseas since high school ended, and have just returned to The Bay from five years in Europe. It's so cool to see my mates but...my bestie cancelled brunch last minute on the weekend because she got her moon cycle, and the rest of my friends insist on making all their decisions on the morning of. What's the go, is there anyone in this town that can hold down a commitment? - Byron Style
DEAR BYRON STYLE, If there is one thing peeps in this town worship, it is the north coast winds. Hot on it's tail to see where it's blowing the swell, letting it blast us up and down Johnson street to The Hinterland, or just generally sitting around pissing into it. Oh, we are a windy bunch. I think the technical term is aerophile but I don't really feel comfortable committing to that, officially.
DEAR KEENWA, I've met the most amazing woman. She has six kids, so I'm after advice on being a step-parent. Good cop or bad cop, mate or older sibling? I think she's the one, so I don't want to blow it, please explain. - Step Aerobics
DEAR STEP AEROBICS, So you're the guy who can actually do all the stuff that mother's can only dream about. I'm not saying get all Alec Baldwin or Mel Gibson on their behinds, but parenthood is something that requires love, not DNA and if she's anything like me, she's willing to palm them off to absolutely anyone that shows even a remote amount. If you can hang in there for five years when 60% of second marriages divorce (as opposed to 50% divorce rate of first marriages), studies show stepfamilies to be more stable than first-marriage families, because second marriages are happier than first marriages.
HAVE A QUESTION FOR KEENWA?

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson
PLASTIC FREE TRAVEL TIPS - PART THREE THIS WEEK - TIPS FOR IN TRANSIT • TICKETS: Try to book everything online, so you don’t have to print a ticket. Email your receipt. Keep your luggage tags, they get recycled here in Byron.
• SECURITY: They mandate we pack liquids in a small plastic bag to go through security. I have a plastic bag that I reuse for this very purpose each time I travel. I reuse the bag during travels to keep my bar of soap separate or my DIY toiletries from leaking. • WATER: Keep your water bottle close, stay hydrated, empty it before security and refill it after security for the long flight ahead. The flight attendants will be walking around with bottled water, but you have your own. If the flight attendant will not pour the drink into your cup, have a polite chat with them until you can come to some compromise. • BE ASSERTIVE: Remember you have the right to refuse anything. You are a paying customer of these travel services, so assert yourself and your preferences. • HEADPHONES: BYO headphones. The airline only replaces what is used so leave the plastic wrapped headphones untouched. If you only hear sound through one ear bud, wriggle the connection port, sometimes it needs adjustment to work properly. • FEEDBACK: Complete online surveys and write customer service about your plastic free preferences. Good luck, go with positivity, and always do your best. Stay tuned next week for part four.

This week's location THE BOLT HOLE - BYRON BAY Overlooking Fletcher Street and the rooflines of Byron Bay, The Bolt Hole is essentially an upstairs whisky, cocktail and craft beer bar serving slow cooked American style smokehouse eats ‘til late. Start with some small bar snacks like local olives, fried chicken wings or Nimbin Valley cheese and crackers. Then upsize to generous sliders like The Cheesy American – a classic slider with a house made beef pattie, American cheese, bacon, pickles, mustard and aioli or dive into The Bolt Hole’s signature smokehouse platters for one or two (vegetarian available), featuring BBQ pork ribs, smoked pulled pork with beans, smoked beef brisket, fried chicken wings, pickled vegetables, hand cut chips, grilled corn and crunchy coleslaw. Be warned the platter for one is more than generous. To say the drinks list at The Bolt Hole is extensive is an understatement. There are more than 200 whiskys and gins and as well as craft cocktails (Try the Cape Fizz featuring Brookies Gin, St. Germain liqueur, fresh lime juice and rosemary syrup topped with tonic), artisanal spirits, organic wines and canned craft beers. The Gin menu is one page long! During Sunset Happy Hour, held daily from 5-7pm, it’s hard to beat the $10 Negronis. The Bolt Hole is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 5pm serving food until last drinks.

• Using a whisk or fork, blend all the dry ingredients together. • Add the wet ingredients together, blend well, and then mix them into the dry ingredients. I use a mixer to ensure the batter is well blended. • Grease the baking pan with olive oil, ghee, coconut oil, or other oil. Add the batter to the baking dish.
• 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, or berries (optional)
• Bake for 40 minutes or until the top is browned and a toothpick inserted in the middle of the bread comes out clean. • Cool and slice. Store sealed at room temperature for a few days, in the refrigerator for a few weeks, or freeze for a few months.
