DEAR KEENWA, My ex is going out with our son's pre-school teacher who I have to exchange pleasantries four times a week with. Before that he was seeing my boss, and my best friend is now seeing my last boyfriend. What are the chances that my soul mate has not previously been the soulmate of someone I know in this town? How the hell can I escape the Byron bubble, when I don't want to move? - One Love
DEAR ONE LOVE, I think the guru Yogi Bhajan must have been in The Bay when he wrote his five sutras of the Age of Aquarius. Number one is recognise that the other person is you. You know we take our spirituality seriously in these parts. This one I think we have taken literally. Perhaps if you commit to reciting the mantra for 40 days and 40 nights in a dark cave down at Whites Beach, you will find enlightenment. If so, you know the drill, share the love around to all of Byron's inhabitants.

DEAR KEENWA, I'm thinking of applying for one of the 280 jobs at the newly announced Medicinal Cannabis lab in Casino, but am wondering how honest to be on my resume. Is twenty years of growing experience throwing myself into the flames? Do you think they'll be eyes on the applications? - Green Thumb
DEAR GREEN THUMB, Just so you know, as part of Byron's commitment to the Transparency Act, we have had the IP address from where you sent this very question, sent off to be analysed as we speak. Don't panic, but shortly you will be required to participate in a random drug test that contains many harmful chemicals. Continue consuming alcohol and pharmaceutical consumption as normal. If you have a life-threatening illness that would greatly benefit from cannabis please continue instead to utilise only those government approved medications, I.e. the medicines that the big guys can control, and build an entirely corrupt economy with, that also destroys the environment.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THIS IS A TRULY PISCEAN WEEK; SUN,
Mercury, Venus, Chiron and Neptune are swimming in these deep and comic waters. It is a highly creative, spiritual and ultra-sensitive mix, perfect for immersing yourself into a project you love, or setting time aside for a retreat. A Mercury/Mars square on Thursday could lead to inner tensions and arguments, especially if you are trying to paddle against the flow. On Friday Neptune’s close proximity to Sun and opposition to the Virgo Full Moon, amplifies the fluid, other-worldly qualities of Pisces. Intoxication, illusion and escapist tendencies might also be prevalent. Mercury and Venus unite for the whole week, and during the weekend they form a harmonious trine to Jupiter. This sets a wonderful vibe for a romantic weekend somewhere in nature. The sensitive, touchy-feely time comes to a crescendo on Monday when Mercury, Venus and Chiron unite, while the Sun merges with Neptune. By Tuesday evening Mercury moves out of the watery realms into fiery Aries; Venus follows on Wednesday. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

d CAPRICORN
With the Princess of Cups drawn you naturally tap into the cosmic and creative vibe of this week’s astro flavour. Allow yourself to flow with these gentle energies and take time for the sweeter things in life. Don’t push too hard for results; just stay buoyant and go with the tides.
When the Devil Tarot card appears you may have to face your shadow and look at any over-indulging, extra-comforting habits and patterns that have become priority in your life. It is time to check whether you are a prisoner of your choices or lifestyle and, if yes, to find a way to liberate yourself.
i GEMINI
The 4 of Cups symbolises a feeling of disengagement or dissatisfaction with the status quo. At the same time you may lack motivation to change anything. A loss of perspective is unusual for you and you might judge yourself for it. Let this watery time pass and things will change effortlessly.
j CANCER
As a water sign you may resonate intuitively with the Piscean theme of this week and, in combination with the Chariot drawn, you act confidently and with determination. The changes you create and the victories you achieve depend on how well you flow with the prevailing energies, and you just know how to do that instinctively.
The Prince of Wands is often called ‘Prince Charming’ and his confident and daring attitude may ignite your passion, either for romance or for totally immersing yourself in a creative endeavour. In any situation you express yourself in a powerful, adventurous and fun way.
You may have to make an important decision this week. With the Full Moon in your sign and in opposition to so many planets in Pisces, confusions and illusions are plentiful. The gift of the Ace of Swords drawn is the ability to cut through any gullibility or doubt and reach a true understanding from deep within. From here your choices are clear.
a LIBRA
The 10 of Swords indicates an imbalance of mind and heart. Your mind might have unconsciously adopted a self-deprecating way, or is bullying your heart, which is very painful. On top of that the watery ways of Pisces may feel like a wet blanket on everything you experience. You can balance this energy best if your inner self-talk is really kind, nurturing and inspiring.
b SCORPIO
The 7 of Wands provides courage to stick to what you value and believe in. Don’t get side-tracked by other people’s opinions or demands and hold out against any perceived pressure. As you honour your vision and perception, things start falling into place…
The 6 of Disks promises success and acknowledgment this week. You won’t have to strive for it; just follow the flow of things and realise the moment when an opportunity opens up. Then you apply your intuition, knowledge and resourcefulness and act with authority – voila!
This week the explosive and highly creative force of the Ace of Wands catapults you out of any rut. Embrace the wakeup call; it fires you up and ignites your courage. It might be exactly what you might need to remove any road-blocks in your way, which have prevented you from actualising your full potential.
e AQUARIUS
The 2 of Cups symbolises love in action and is in absolute synchronicity with the astro flavour of this week. Whether you are longing for romance, deep connection or more selflove and appreciation, now is the time to consciously move towards it with every action or reaction. Then sit back and watch what happens…
f PISCES
The cosmic astro flavour of this week resonates perfectly with you and the Queen of Cups drawn. As much as you can, make time for immersing yourself into your creative or romantic endeavours and celebrate the depth, communion and union you can invoke. Nature may bring great inspiration and inner peace too.

This week's review
TITLE: Bear Town AUTHOR: Frederik Backman NUMBER OF PAGES: 432 EST. READ TIME: 8 hours and 47 minutes PRICE: $33.50 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: In a small, remote town in the woods
of Sweden, ice hockey is life. The townspeople have pinned their hopes on the Junior Ice Hockey club winning a national championship, a win which would translate to a huge boost to their local economy. A violent act throws the town into turmoil and tests the meaning of friendship, community and loyalty. It’s a coming-of-age story that touches on heroism, empathy, bullying, violence and group-think with so much tact that this tiny town becomes a metaphor for the entire world.
WHO IT'S FOR: People who love a thriller with plot #STARTUPBYRON UN-NETWORKING MEETUP "StartupByron" is
a free, open and inclusive community Un-Networking meet-up that gets together the first Thursday of every month. Open to all. 5:30pm at The Sun Bistro, Bayshore Drive. startinno.com
twists and psychological depth.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: It’s thrilling and addictive,
minus unnecessary gore or sensationalism. Even if you’re not a sports fan, this book is hard to put down. The author writes from each character’s perspective with so much precision, empathy and clarity it’s astounding. It’s a study in empathy, morality, hope, as well as why we keep secrets (and the cost of them).
NOTABLE QUOTE: “Anxiety can act as internal gravity, shrinking the soul.”

With Caitlin Cady
This week's mantra
GET SIT DONE.
Ever wondered why it’s so hard to be still and quiet? Why you resist sitting in meditation, spending time by yourself, leaving your phone in another room, or driving without a podcast playing? We’ve engineered our lives to avoid stillness and silence because of what’s waiting for us there. The discomfort. The pain. The sadness. The anxiety. The emptiness. Memories. Regrets. The lonesome frontiers. The familiar jab of “I am not enough.” These cavernous hollows within us become apparent when we aren’t shovelling achievements, accomplishments, and productivity on top. Ticking to-dos, multi-tasking and browser-hopping are all clever tactics stemming from a cunning unconscious strategy to avoid pain, emptiness, fear, and whatever else is waiting for us in the void. Plus, we don’t feel whole, just as we are, so we shovel load after load of accomplishment to fill the “whole.” Through busyness, we get that sweet hit of feeling temporarily whole. It won’t last long. We know that, so we just make our to-do list longer, overfill our calendars, keep our hands full of devices. That way, stillness is always just out of reach. But here’s the irony: The key to our wholeness is buried in the depths of stillness and silence, waiting to be excavated. It offers us access to the answers we’re aching for, through the voice of our inner guidance. So instead of Getting Shit Done, Get Sit Done. Sit down, get still, be quiet. Regularly. Don’t dabble, you’ll run back into the arms of achievement at the first hint of resistance. Instead, commit. Make intentional pauses. Stay for savasana. Sit in meditation. Take five deep breaths. Spend an hour without your phone. Lay down the doing, ‘cause being is where the bounty is AT, yo.

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson
PLASTIC FREE TRAVEL TIPS - PART FOUR - UPON ARRIVAL • WATER: Fill your bottle at a restaurant at the airport. Use your own filter or boil water at your accommodation. • PHONE: If you are getting a SIM card, this is unavoidable plastic. If you come back to this country often, use your luggage sticker to stick the SIM to the back page of your passport so you can reuse it. Or gift the card to a local when you leave. • ARTISANS: Seek out crafts-folk’s hand made soaps and baskets. Support people weaving wallets/bags from plastics; this incentivises cleaning up soft plastics and it prolongs the life, preventing it from going straight to the landfill. • COCKTAILS: BYO straw or tell the wait staff in advance “no straw,” explain why. • EATING OUT: Explain you are trying to be plastic-free! Sauce or sides can go on the plate to avoid containers. • STREET FOOD: Eat locally-owned, grown and made! Anticipate food in plastic and show you can use a napkin or your own fork. • ACCOMMODATION: Don't touch the little plastic toiletries. Hotels can use them for other guests. • FEEDBACK: Give positive feedback to low-waste businesses. Offer solutions and suggestions to businesses offering plastics. Show you are willing to bring your own bag, container, etc. • DO MICRO CLEAN-UPS: Invest in the environment and set an example for other tourists. Good luck, go with positivity, and always do your best.

JOB: Making fun active and swimwear

MATCHING SETS OR MIX Eco fabrics. They've become very AND MATCH accessible; there’s no real reason not
to be responsibly manufacturing. And maybe I’m biased but for me it’s all about colour. Why so serious? Oh and sun protection, always.
MATCHING SETS OR MIX I love matching sets. I also love mix AND MATCH: and match. Maybe mix and match
more. I also love alliteration.
SPIRIT EMOJI: FAV PLACE TO SURF: Sunset at Wategos with friends. BEER OR KOMBUCHA: I’m going through a mixing them
both together phase.
MORNING ROUTINE: I have been making an effort to swap
routine for ritual. My morning ritual: Giving thanks before my feet leave my bed. Then something quiet to set me up for the rest of the loud day. Most often 20mins of mediation, sometimes writing, sometimes stretching, always breathing.

This week's location WOODS - BANGALOW If you go down to Woods in Bangalow today you might just get a surprise. Like its older sibling, Folk in Byron Bay, Woods might look small and humble, but there’s more to the café than meets the eye. It’s amazing that they can even produce what they do from such a tiny kitchen space! Tucked away in the arts precinct of Bangalow, just off Station Street, Woods is a simple kiosk style café that has a loyal following and attracts folks from near and far. The philosophy at both Woods (and Folk) is to serve an organic and ethical plant based menu for breakfast and lunch with a great coffee and alternative drinks offering. Just like the setting, the menu at Woods is short. Think house made granola with the trimmings, avocado and feta on organic sourdough, soba noodles with miso glazed egpplant and seasonal nourish bowls. There are tempting counter sweets like their gluten free brownies. The food and drinks are presented beautifully with edible flowers, shoots and tendrils that look too good to eat! The coffee served at Woods is by Dukes Coffee Roasters from Melbourne. You can have dairy, almond, cashew, coconut or bonsoy milks. If coffee is not your drink of choice, there are other organic warm brews available including a Cacao hot chocolate, Matcha / Turmeric lattes, an Ayurvedic chai as well as hot or iced Teas, Refreshers & Elixirs.

• 1/8 tsp Star Anise • 1 tsp Cinnamon SuperHuman Mushroom Mix • 1 tsp Cordyceps • 1 tsp Reishi • 1 tsp Chaga • 1 tsp Lion's Mane • 1/2 cup Cacao Powder • 1/2 cup Cacao Butter - melted

Will and Bear @WILLANDBEAR
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START WILL AND BEAR? Will & Bear
was born on the road. Back in Tasmania a few years ago the inspiration for the brand was sparked. It was our time spent in the wild nature that is Tasmania that first got us thinking about how we could create a brand that inspired a life lived outdoors and a deeper connection to our environment.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR PLANT A FOREST PROJECT?
By purchasing a hat from us you are helping counter the effects of deforestation, as well as supporting families and communities out of poverty. One hat sold = 10 trees planted.
YOU RECENTLY MOVED FROM MELBOURNE TO BYRON BAY. WHAT PROMPTED THE MOVE? We’d been on the road
living and working from our van for around 12 mths prior to settling in Byron. Melbourne was our base, this is where we are both from but the ocean is where we belong. After a few visits to Byron we fell in love with the community and lifestyle.
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU BOTH ADVENTURE OFTEN. IS THIS PART OF YOUR BUSINESS SUCCESS? Our brand has been built around adventure and life on the road. We’ve found that when we’re on the road we have the most clarity, it’s where our best ideas and inspiration come from. Life on the road brings with it fewer distractions, time to think and the constant changing environment means you have to think outside the box, problem solve and immerse yourself in different cultures. All of which have helped our business endlessly.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE MUST HAVE ITEMS ON THE ROAD? A hat of course, surf board, fresh food, tunes and a good mechanic. For more inspiration from the road visit willandbear.com
