It's just $15 on the door to catch the likes of Dub Phizix and Chunky doing their thing behind the decks, with an afterparty at Sticky Wicket from midnight.

Over in Bangalow, the weekend kicks off with Superbowlo Friday at the Bangalow Bowling Club. Live acts including Child, Fluff, Flat Bickie and Mind are set to perform from 8pm, with Southern BBQ food on offer to soak up the $5 schooeys of Young Henrys. Entry is $10 on the door, or $5 for students. If you’ve always wanted to learn more about foraging, consider signing up for a Wild Edibles Foraging Workshop in Federal on Sunday morning. A collaboration between Jane Buxton from Forage Therapy and wild food enthusiasts Rachel Heaton and Gabriel Gaskin, the three-hour workshop will show you how to safely identify and harvest bush foods in the Northern Rivers bioregion. Call Jane to book your spot (0488 036 671; adults $45, kids $25).

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

VENUS IN TAURUS AND MARS IN

Capricorn, the two archetypes for relationships, form a beautifully harmonising trine from Thursday to Sunday. They complement each other with their earthy outlooks; Venus loves Mars’ dependability and strength and Mars loves Venus’ sensuality. What a great opportunity to initiate, expand or heal a connection with a loved one. This window of opportunity gets potencised by Jupiter and Pluto. Their sextile is the second one out of a series of three; the first one was in mid-January. It brings inspiration, aspiration and intensity to any meaningful interaction or project. Some ideas that you may have shelved three months ago might become more interesting or timely now. In tune with the New Moon in Aries on Monday, Mercury turns direct again, but he covers the same old ground until early May. Nevertheless the impulse to make changes and move into new territory might be extremely strong, since Sun and Moon are very close to and under the influence of the revolutionary, impatient and unpredictable forces of Uranus. Luxury-loving Venus is opposite Jupiter on Tuesday and exaggerates extravagant tendencies that might turn out pleasurable but costly. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The 9 of Wands demands resilience, stamina and above all a mind focused on perseverance, even if you encounter setbacks that remind you of similar ones in the past. This time around you have the inner resources necessary to overcome any difficulties that block this road to success.

h TAURUS

The 5 of Swords symbolises inner and outer discord. You may have won a battle against someone but your victory leaves you empty and has a sour taste; or you might be battling against inner demons that sneak up on you when you are not conscious about the content of your mind. Old fears and insecurities might have to be faced and may lead to renewed inner strength.

k LEO

c SAGITTARIUS

l VIRGO

d CAPRICORN

The 5 of Wands symbolises strife, anxiety or frustration. It may be difficult this week to get into the natural flow of things and you might feel limited, restricted and restrained by forces outside you. Yet when you examine your mind-set you may find that you need to rediscover your trust and belief in your competence, and the outer situation will then change.

The 6 of Swords, in combination with the earthy flavour of this week nourishes your ‘get up and go’. You may overcome difficulties that would have felt unmanageable a while ago. Your positive perspective motivates others too, and may lead to great teamwork and success.

a LIBRA

i GEMINI

The 7 of Cups represents a lack of fulfilment and satisfaction. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able change your emptiness by overindulging in habits that once were good fun but now take more and more of your energy. You might have to dig deep in your psyche to find what you are really missing. From there on you are on a mission…

j CANCER

BY GISELA

The Ace of Swords cuts through any confusion or doubt and graces you with great clarity. You may have a sudden ‘aha’ experience and your newly-found awareness inspires creative thinking. You might come up with great ideas or follow up on a project that has been on the back-burner since January.

With the Sun Tarot card drawn you may bask in her warm, radiant light. You find delight, not only in the simple and earthly pleasures that come your way, but also in the way you generate enthusiasm and inspiration. Your zest for life is contagious and a gift unto others.

b SCORPIO

The 7 of Swords is a state of mind that is fixed on futile thoughts and a sense of hopelessness regarding a difficult situation. Don’t get lost in negative ‘what-if’ scenarios that drain your energy. This is not a good week to make important decisions or impulsively burn bridges!

The Emperor is the archetype of male power, strength and leadership. He offers structure, order and clarity, and supersedes any chaos with his analytical approach to the situation. This week you may embody his qualities, enabling you to grow and improve important business matters and find great satisfaction in guiding other people towards their potential as well.

The 5 of Disks symbolises discontent or worry about how things are unfolding at the moment. You mind has a difficult time staying present with what is and either looks at the past for re-assurance or jumps to conclusions about the future. Either way it stresses you out more than necessary! Relax, breathe and stay here right now…

e AQUARIUS

The World Tarot card supports the adventurous, creative and unlimited part of your consciousness. This week you may be able to make dreams come true by magnetically attracting the right circumstances and people. Your timing is impeccable and the universe supports your every move.

f PISCES

The 4 of Swords indicates your need for peace and quiet before you make any big decisions. Don’t allow yourself to be reactive only because you are mentally overwhelmed. It works much better for you if you retreat and recuperate for a while; then negotiation and resolution of important issues comes much easier and with a greater success rate.

DEAR KEENWA, My grandson has an Osteopath, a Homeopath, a Naturopath, and a Kinesiologist, takes more supplements and remedies than sense, yet he's still 'unwell.' He's six. Isn't that a little too young to be chasing wellness? I didn't try superfoods for the first time until I was 64 years old, and I am kicking it strong. - Grannie Goodness

DEAR DISHARMONY, Those poor publicans gots to make their rent to city landlords somehow. On a holiday in Jamaica once, I took a day trip from the family I crashed with in Kingston to one of the spots in the brochures. The visitors over there were American, as were the staff and the food. The resort entertainment was American, as was the weed, and the rent-a-dreads. If you wanted to book a room in a hotel there, you had to call a phone number in America. You see where I'm headed with this story man? But bless up for giving off the right vibes on your busking corner, so the touring Trustafarians want to bring their payroll into this town with them.

This week's mantra

MAKE A DATE TO MEDITATE.

Making meditation a non-negotiable part of your day means accepting that every day will be different. And some days it will look a bit....like this. Deep belly breaths and stillness in the midst of motion. Keeping focus while little gate crashers tear da club up. It may not be perfect but it's good enough. Better to take it any way you can get it than to wait for the perfect conditions (that usually never arise). So, MAKE A DAILY DATE WITH MEDITATION. By committing to a specific time of day and making meditation a part of your routine, it frees you from hesitation, deliberation, the perpetual waiting for perfect conditions, the pushing off and procrastinating. You know it needs to get done, you know this is the time of day to make it happen, so you just…do it. Doesn’t matter when. First thing in the morning. Or just before bedtime. Or at midday. Or before dinner. Whenever. Just pick a time that makes sense for your life and stick to it. And then…rest easy because you did the hard work. You made a date and you SHOWED UP. No matter how short or wonky or imperfect your practice is from day to day, you’ll begin to look forward to it. You’ll crave it. And you’ll take it any way you can get it. However your practice looks, you’ll always be glad you carved out time for meditation. That I can guarantee.

This week's review

TITLE: Crazy, Rich, Asians AUTHOR: Kevin Kwan NUMBER OF PAGES: 544 EST. READ TIME: 8 hours and 3 minutes WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Crazy Rich Asians could best be

described as ‘The Real Housewives’ meets ‘Game of Thrones’. With enough characters to make your head spin, Kevin Kwan has his readers deep dive into the lifestyles of Asia’s richest families. Private jets, diamonds, huge estates and couture gowns are the norm for Kwan’s characters, but their lives certainly aren’t as such.

WHO IT'S FOR: Those who enjoy a gossip mag or some trashy TV once in a while. A book for the ladies, rather than the lads.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Despite the incredibly ‘un PC’

title, Crazy Rich Asians is dazzling, raucous and laugh out loud funny. It perfectly captures the glamour, elegance and rich history of Asia as the reader is introduced to some of the world’s wealthiest people (fictional of course). Its extravagance will leave you breathless as you take a ride through some serious family politics. The book is currently in production for a 2018 film release so watch this space!!

NOTABLE QUOTE: “Eleanor had a long-held theory about men. She truly believed that for most men, all that talk of “being in love” or “finding the right one” was absolute nonsense. Marriage was purely a matter of timing, and whenever a man was finally done sowing his wild oats and ready to settle down, whichever girl happened to be there at the time would be the right one.” This week's review written by Jessie Hilton.

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson

STUFF YOU DIDN’T REALISE WAS PLASTIC - PART ONE CHEWING GUM - Originally made from tree sap called

Chicle, natural rubber, and sometimes natural waxes. After World War II, chemists started making synthetic rubber, which replaced natural rubber in gum (e.g. polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate). If you ever read ‘gum base’ on a packet, run.

TEA BAGS - Almost ALL contain plastic in the mesh or polypropylene as a sealant used to help the bags hold their shape.

SHAMPOO - Of the 22 ingredients in an average bottle of shampoo, three actually clean hair. Shampoos are made of tons of ‘psychological’ chemicals to make us feel gorgeous, this includes plastic, which coats the hair to seal in moisture and give hair a silky shine, but in fact strips hair of moisture.

PAPER CUPS - Most are lined with plastic. How else could they go hours without liquid seeping through?

COCONUT WATER BOXES – These look like cardboard

and the cheeky plastic lid sometimes sneaks by the conscience. Sorry, these cardboard drink containers are lined with plastic and won’t get separated for recycling.

TOOTHPASTE - Plastic microbeads were a trend in

pastes. These beads either go into your body or down the drain into the waterways, out into the oceans, into marine creatures. (Microbeads are not banned in Australia, there is a voluntary phase out.)

YOUR CLOTHES - Check your labels! Most clothes contain synthetics.

If you have a plastic you need help with, get in touch on Instagram @plasticfreemermaid or mermaid@iquitplastics.com

This week's location

BALCONY BAR AND OYSTER CO. - BYRON BAY The Balcony Bar and Oyster Co. is one of those iconic venues in Byron Bay where you can escape upstairs, far away from the street traffic and travelers, to sit in the ocean breeze with a cool drink and a bite to eat and, if you time it right, listen to some live music. The seaside fit out at the Balcony features ocean spray walls as a backdrop to lush tropical plants, contrasting raw timber surfaces and nautical décor. The drinks list is extensive with a good range of local and imported wines, beers, spirits and a great cocktail list. The Ginny Hendrick’s is my favourite - with elderflower liqueur, cucumber and juniper. Don’t’ forget $12 Espresso Martinis every night from 9.30pm which make a great desert option! Executive Chef Sean Connelly has created a relaxed menu with weekend brunches plus lunch and dinner seven days a week. Breakfast offerings include house made granola, the big breakfast and a crab omelette. Lunch and dinner menus are the same. I always order the crispy skinned ocean trout. If you like fish and chips, Sean’s duck fat version is a hit. There are daily themed nights at The Balcony too. Monday from 6pm is Soul Food night and Wednesday is $1 oysters from 5-6pm. Keep an eye out for regular festivals as well like Margartia March, the annual Crab Carnival from 30th March to 30th April and the Oyster Festival in August.

@MYTHANDSTORY WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND MYTH&STORY? Myth&Story

sources objects made locally and globally by women with intention and meaning. Women are natural storytellers. We carry all the myths and stories that came before us and create the story we live into today. Myth&Story’s treasures are infused with a powerful energy from each woman creatrix. This power is then carried by whoever collects the object. You aren’t just connected to the artisan who made it but also to the power they infuse into it.

WHAT DOES ART MEAN TO YOU? Art is freedom. Art is medicine. Art is everything. Art allows us to show what's inside and invisible to the outside world. Through that sharing we connect, we question, and we grow.

HOW DO YOU TELL THE STORY OF SYRIAN WOMEN?

Like everyone else I have been watching the horrific tragedy devastate the Syrian people. I was determined to do something no matter how far away I was from the situation. When I discovered Rania Kinge and what she was doing, how she was helping teach Syrian women to make these amazing bags I was blown away and a chance to showcase beautiful pieces of handmade jewellery and bags that may take up to a month to make. Together through sharing their creations, we create a new story.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TELL THE STORY BEHIND THE ART? The story is everything. It connects us to each other. It reminds us of our humanity. The story makes the object come alive for us.

TOP 3 INSTA PAGES TO FOLLOW? To empower your hands @woodworkforwomen , your art @thesculptress and your energy @poundjewelry Check out the collection at www.mythandstory.com
