Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
TREAD GENTLY ON THURSDAY AND
in fact all week long! Two strong transits culminate and many people might feel pressured and stressed. Mars, the planet for male force, fire and strength unites with Pluto, who is preoccupied with power and is at times relentless in the way he transforms people’s lives and relationships. All this occurs in down-to-earth Capricorn whose nature is to control, hold on and solidify. Furthermore there is the challenging influence of a Mercury and Saturn square (Aries to Capricorn). This is the third of a series of squares due to Mercury’s recent retrograde motion. Issues that have been festering since mid-March and which went through a reassessment in early April might now come to the breaking point. There may be pressure to act decisively, even though the outlook might be bleak. Be careful and kind in all communications and you save yourself a lot of trouble. Over the weekend a Sun/Saturn earth trine helps to accept responsibilities and offers motivation to find workable, sensible, long-term strategies. The emotional fallout of this week peaks with Monday’s Full Moon in Scorpio, a good day to remember that others might feel as deeply as you do. Therefore revenge and aggression will most likely be met with the same force, but a move towards healing and regeneration opens the door to enormous transformation. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
With Mercury, Chiron and Uranus in your sign and the 2 of Swords drawn, you might feel the pressure to make a decision. Contemplate which verdict brings the most balance, justice and peace of mind and choose that, even though you may feel like beating the drum of war.
h TAURUS
The Bull’s natural reaction to stress and tension is to retreat into his comfort zone and indulge a little bit more in his favourite pastime. The 7 of Cups indicates that right now this habit won’t bring you the relief you are looking for. You may have to face an issue you don’t want to confront.
i GEMINI
With Venus in your sign, increasing your already great adaptability, and the Ace of Disks drawn, you surely achieve concrete results this week. You get what you want if you stay flexible and seize an opportunity as soon as you perceive it.
j CANCER
This week’s astro flavour in combination with the 4 of Disks might force you to set clear boundaries for anyone who tries to overpower or overwhelm you. Just withdrawing into your shell might not be good enough; you may have to strongly assert yourself, especially if you have been trying to avoid exactly that for quite some time.

With the Prince of Swords comes an urgency to move on and clear the way from old limiting beliefs. In your eagerness and determination you might rush forward just a little bit too fast. Keep connecting with what is happening around you and don’t lose touch with your nearest and dearest.
The Fool Tarot card suggests following your heart’s guidance, rather than relying on your analytical mind. Once you acknowledge and overcome your innate fears you find the vulnerable but trustworthy place deep inside. A whole new world can open up for you, so take courage, move beyond the comfort of what you know and take a leap of faith.
a LIBRA
The Queen of Swords is known for her straightforward approach to any difficult situation. She stands for fair play, and with her x-ray vision she sees right through any masquerades. Hold onto your authenticity this week and speak your truth, even if it feels uncomfortable. Your inner clarity and decisiveness may assist others finding theirs.
b SCORPIO
With the Full Moon in your sign and the 5 of Disks drawn you might feel burdened by deep questions and big decisions you have to make. Don’t get lost in gruesome, worstcase, ‘what-if’ scenarios; they only trigger a downward spiral of thought and a tsunami of negative emotions. Take time off to retreat, regenerate and reset your priorities.
When the Devil Tarot card appears it is time to examine what enslaves you and how you may hold yourself prisoner of your own habitual thought-patterns and choices. If you are feeling trapped in undesirable situations, take stock, consider your options and take action that supports liberation.
The Empress symbolises feminine leadership, expressed in harmony with nature’s rhythmic ebb and flow of energy. Regardless of whether you are a woman or a man, this week is about expressing your tenderness and your nurturing qualities, not only in relationship to others but also within yourself.
e AQUARIUS
With the 10 of Cups drawn the world is your oyster this week. While others may struggle, you have many reasons to count your blessings. As you celebrate your wellbeing and happiness, your love for life and people shines brightly, and it has an uplifting effect on everyone who spends time with you.
f PISCES
The Ace of Swords conveys the gift of cutting through confusion and doubt in order to clearly understand your situation. This ‘diamond consciousness’ graces you with new insights, original ideas and a determination that has the power to move old roadblocks out of your way.

DEAR KEENWA, I heard platypus milk is the next big thing in health foods, promising miracle cures for all. As this is prime platypus country, I'd love to know where to find such a delicacy. I got the money if you sellin', I'm from Sydney. - Duck-billed Dollars
DEAR DUCK-BILLED DOLLARS, You're right, scientists have pin-pointed a curly protein in the native animal's milk which they believe could be used to kill off antibiotic-resistant bacteria. I'm sure they don't teach you this in the big smoke, but in these parts we know that breast is best. Should we set up platypus friendly breastfeeding lounges/ponds? Or we could take the world by storm with this, and just like Ayahuasca and coconut water, mass consume the hell outta it, until those poor little buggers are buying their milk back from us, for their young. Like surely they could borrow from either a duck or a beaver if they needed?

It really does take a tribe to grow up our kids and this calls for community support. I am sure people would love to donate dollars to a Save the Children Crowdfunding campaign. Our Children are our future and the ones with cranky mums cost the government way too much in mental health eventually. The question is what to do when you reach target? Pay a sitter so you can detox and wee in peace, or put those coins all into Ural sachets? They do taste even better in vodka.

This week's mantra
REAL TALK: KEEP YOUR AFFIRMATIONS REAL TO THE FEEL. Affirmations can work wonders when properly prescribed, but sometimes when we say "I am… strong/patient/ loved/whatever” it actually pokes the tiger and stokes the fire of shame. Your inner shame rears into an aggressive counter attack along the lines of “Pfft!? Yeah right. Who am I kidding. No I’m not! I’ll never be graceful/sexy/strong/fill in the affirmationof-choice.” That inner critic really knows how to slam you down to worthless crumb size. And on an energetic level, this is when an affirmation can backfire and reinforce our inner critic and our negative belief about ourselves. Here’s the way around that. Start where you are with an eye to where you’re going. Step 1- Be real to the feel. I love the way Dr. Habib Sadhegi sums it up, “the emphasis is always on the feelings and NOT the words themselves. The universe doesn’t speak English! Affirmations are only tools to generate feelings. If the feelings aren’t there, your words aren’t plugged into universal energy.” BOOM. Best wrap up on affirmations I’ve ever come across. Step 2- Choose to phrase your affirmation in a way that is true NOW. Dr. Sadhegi suggests using phrases like “I’m discovering…” “I’m realising…” “I’m becoming…” So for example instead of an affirmation like “I’m strong and focused” you might choose “I’m becoming stronger and more focused every day.” Now that’s some real talk, yo. It’s true and it’s inspiring and it will keep you aiming toward the way you really want to feel. Keep it real and you’ll affirm your way into the future.

This week's review
TITLE: The Examined Life: How We Lose and Find
Ourselves AUTHOR: Stephen Grosz NUMBER OF PAGES: 240 EST. READ TIME: 3 hours and 6 minutes WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Ever wonder what goes on behind the closed doors of a therapist’s office? I have. The transformations and admissions that happen are usually, by law, kept confidential. Stephen Grosz has managed to write an entire book of recounted sessions (with permission from his patients), attempting to simplify 50,000 hours of conversations and the result is extraordinary. He recounts being spat on by a nine year old boy, counselling an HIV patient, and giving advice to a woman who no longer loves her husband. With each chapter focusing on a different patient, each with a unique journey the reader is forced to hold a mirror to their own life and question how they too can find themselves.
WHO IT'S FOR: Those interested in self exploration and who have an interest in psychology.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Grosz’s patients are
entertaining as well as emotionally engaging. He often reminds us that sometimes we need to hear the things that are hardest to swallow, and these are often the best lessons.
NOTABLE QUOTE: “All sorrows can be borne if you put
them into a story or tell a story about them. But if we cannot find a way of telling our story, our story tells us- we dream these stories, we develop symptoms, or we find ourselves acting in ways we don't understand.” This week's review written by Jessie Hilton.

JAPONAISE KITCHEN - BYRON BAY We have plenty of Japanese dining options in Byron Bay, but each has its own point of difference, which is great for lovers of Japanese food. After all, you can never have enough Japanese food, right? Japonaise Kitchen is one such venue. It’s styled like a kitsch Japanese canteen with neat nooks and booths. There’s no sushi train, although there are some fast takeaway options. Other than that, your meals are made fresh to order from the pint sized kitchen at the rear. The menu has everything from soothing Ramen (egg noodle soup) and Curry to lighter shared styled options. The Main Meals include popular dishes like Teriyaki Chicken and Chicken Katsu Don. The Sushi Menu has Hosomaki (your popular sushi rolls, plus the inside out version), as well as hand pressed Ngiri and my favourite oversized Hand Rolls – which I always order with fresh tuna - and some house specials. The Gyozas are great as a starter or part of a shared menu with dishes from the Tapas menu. The Tuna Karaage with homemade tartare is a nice alternative to the classic chicken variety. And you must try the Japanese Hotdog at least once with your choice of filling (pork please!) served on a small, fluffy white hotdog bun with lettuce, tomato and teriyaki mayo. Japonaise Kitchen on Fletcher Street in Byron Bay is licenced. It’s open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Roisin Carolan
@RORO.CAROLAN WHAT IS THE BYRON BAY MAL CLUB AND HOW DOES IT WORK? The Byron Bay Malibu club meets once a month
and has a club round. It's mostly social and is a great little community of surfers.
WHEN DID YOU START SURFING? I started surfing when I was 10 in Manly.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST SURFING INFLUENCES? Growing up, people like Kassia Meodor and Belinda Baggs were my idols and had a big influence on my surfing.
IF YOU’RE NOT SURFING, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I’m an apprentice chef at Fig Tree, I also like to draw and of course hang out with my lovely friends.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SURFING CULTURE IN BYRON? We’re so lucky to have a welcoming surf
culture, accepting of different styles of surfing and also women. I think in Byron men and women are pretty equal in the line-up, which isn’t as common in other places. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of discrimination towards women’s surfing in other places, and I’m so glad Byron isn't like that.
WHERE IS YOUR FAV WAVE IN THE WORLD? Wategos will always hold a special place in my heart.
BEST PART ABOUT LIVING IN BYRON? It’s hard to say.
Sometimes I’m in the surf and its perfect, the waves, the water, the company, and then I look over to left and there’s mount Warning and all those beautiful mountains and valleys. And I’m like f*ck yeah this is the best.
ARE YOU SURFING IN THE BYRON BAY MALIBU CLASSIC THIS YEAR? Yes, just in the women’s division this year, hopefully we get some nice waves for it.
The Byron Bay Malibu Classic runs from 27th - 29th April at Wategos beach. Info at byronbaymalibuclub.org
