Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY A SUN/MARS AIR TRINE

provides much drive and ambition, but efforts might not bring the desired results because the Moon is ‘void of course’ all day! Things work out better if you postpone any significant actions or meetings until Friday. This is a big day; the two giants of our solar system, Jupiter and Neptune, team up in an inspiring water trine for the second time in a cycle of connections which began in late 2017. It’s been building up for weeks and it stimulates creative projects and spiritual aspirations, especially the ones which were conceived in December last year. Between now and August, when the two meet for the third time, hopes and dreams about social justice, community spirit or universal oneness may lead to long-lasting changes of mass-consciousness. For all water signs this transit may also imply personal changes. On Saturday, however, a Venus/Saturn opposition might feel like a wet blanket over the dreams of fulfilment, and old pains of separation or loneliness could stir. On Monday the Scorpio Moon teams up with Jupiter and charges the trine to Neptune with her relentless search for truth. This is also a great day for a vision quest or retreating with your favourite creative endeavour. The Full Moon in Sagittarius (Tuesday/ Wednesday) highlights the need for seeking truth and finding meaning. Mercury the messenger and trickster moves into Gemini and loves lively conversation; vehemently expressed opinions may lead to newly-adopted and adapted convictions. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The exciting and expansive astro flavour in combination with the 6 of Cups drawn shows how much you can thrive and accomplish in a positive, productive environment. Work becomes play and competition naturally morphs into refreshing and vitalising cooperation. Have fun!

h TAURUS

The Knight of Disks prefers the safe and known path. In reaction to the mental/emotional expansion of this week, you might hold onto the tried and true even more. Yet if you stubbornly resist the astro-current, you exhaust yourself in struggle and might miss a chance.

i GEMINI

The Empress is the archetype of feminine and nurturing leadership. This week it pays to slow down so you can communicate consciously and deliberately. As long as you have the greater good on your mind all conversations and meeting are fruitful. Don’t be afraid to express your tenderness and love.

j CANCER

The Moon Tarot card describes the principle of reflection. It mirrors situations and qualities back to you; it is cosmic feedback. Use it in a way that supports and expresses your authentic self. The more you stay true to yourself, the more other people know where they are at with you; anything else creates boundary confusion.

BY GISELA

k LEO

c SAGITTARIUS

l VIRGO

d CAPRICORN

The 2 of Cups symbolises love in action. It nudges you to express your appreciation of others in such a way that it increases the connection between you and the other each and every time you interact. This gives you the opportunity to experience effortless relating where giving and receiving are one.

The Fool Tarot card appears when it is time to make a courageous step forward despite old fears and worries. These are stimulating times and if you allow yourself to be swept along in the currents of inspiration, new insight and circumstances let you land in a place that is well worth the risk.

a LIBRA

The Ace of Disks indicates your readiness to align with the principle of prosperity. You are after an enriching experience, but not at any cost! What does not feel right internally can never bring the results you really long for. Any choice you make needs to reflect where your heart is at.

b SCORPIO

The 10 of Wands promises success in business affairs and long-lasting solutions for problematic relationships. To others it may look as if things turn out magically, but in truth you have been working diligently and quietly towards these achievements for a long time.

With the Queen of Swords and the Full Moon as your allies, there is no pretence or holding back of opinions. Your authenticity is most likely more important to you than any social conventions. Heated discussions may follow and you welcome them because they bring you closer to the ever-so-elusive truth.

With the 10 of Swords you may feel at a low point right now. Your habit of self-critical thoughts creates even more darkness and negativity. The attitude of gratitude for those (even little) things that are working out for you, would be a powerful antidote and lightens your burden.

e AQUARIUS

The Knight of Wands symbolises a leap of faith. Allow this inspirational week to catapult you into a new reality that expresses more of your true self. Take a risk, embark on an adventurous vision quest and challenge yourself to be all you can be.

f PISCES

As a water sign you might experience the Jupiter/Neptune trine on a very personal level. Combined with the Priestess Tarot card you may feel drawn to spend much time in solitude and nurturing nature. As you take time to appreciate and contemplate her rich beauty, insights and new creativity are born.

New research has been released as Tinder turns five, showing men that use the app have more body image concerns and lower self-esteem than 'normal' men, so are you sure you're not just wigging out? The research also confirmed users are more likely to view their bodies as sexual objects. Duh. But OKCupid recently found that compared to black, Asian or minority ethnic users, white users got more messages, and were also less likely to reply or match with users of a different race to themselves, and more likely to question interracial marriage, even though interracial marriage has increased since the app era. So I’m hearing less dates, boo, but more brides, woo.

DEAR KEENWA, When should we move in together? My woman has been yapping on about it for most of the nine months we've been an item, but how do I know if I'm ready for the next step? Should we or shouldn't we? Share with another flattie or newlywed style from the start? - Domestic Bliss

DEAR DOMESTIC BLISS, Mate, what do you think this is, Dolly Doctor? Haven't you taken any online quizzes to get the answer? I generally don't recommend making any permanent decisions in the honeymoon phase. According to Google, some of the signs' it's time are, feeling nervous about it, afraid of giving up the life you have (which means you know no one else can complete you), and if the decision is not just financially based. Bingo!! The reason for Byron's breakups right there – the rent makes us prematurely ejaculate our commitment. It don't last the yards, my friend. (or inches rather)

This week's mantra

MAKE ME BOUYANT, FILL ME WITH LIGHT, LIKE A LANTERN FLOATING THROUGH THE NIGHT. A prayer for returning to Joy:

TOUGH MOTHER FITNESS

Mums & Bubs fitness classes. Beginners welcome! Classes in Byron 9.30am Mon, Wed, Fri & Lennox 10am Tues. Coming soon to Bruns. E: admin@toughmother-fitness.com for more info or to book. Instagram: @toughmotherfitness

Smooth out the rough edges and melt the sharpness into softer curves. Fortify my boundaries and dissolve my barriers. Remind me that it’s a blessing just to be breathing. And that I’m not so much breathing as being breathed by life. Direct me to spiral inward to find the spark of joy, feed it, and build a fire for all of us to gather round. Make me buoyant and then fill me with light, like a lantern floating through the night.

BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine AUTHOR: Gail Honeyman NUMBER OF PAGES: 336 EST. READ TIME: 6 hours and 23 minutes PRICE: $20.60 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine.

Or is she? Eleanor is awkward, lacks social graces and drinks two bottles of vodka each weekend. Her closest friend is a pot plant and life is planned down to the second, never really steering off course. Until now. So how has she got to this point? What went so wrong? And what will happen when her day changes from ordinary to extraordinary? All will be revealed in this unconventional tale.

WHO IT'S FOR: Chick lit fans. An easy, but heartwarming read. Nothing wrong with a good page turner!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Eleanor Oliphant, at

first is an unlikeable character. Her qualities leave something to be desired but through the novel there is something special about the way she evolves. This book is a reminder that a little kindness goes a long way and each of us holds the power to change ourselves and others around us in a positive way. It’s funny, quirky and memorable. A great book club book.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “A philosophical question: if a tree

falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? And if a woman who's wholly alone occasionally talks to a pot plant, is she certifiable? I think that it is perfectly normal to talk to oneself occasionally. It's not as though I'm expecting a reply. I'm fully aware that Polly is a houseplant.”

This week's location TARGA - BYRON BAY

If you’re craving a taste of Europe in Byron Bay, then it’s hard to go past Targa. From the bistro styled décor to the Italian wines and the staff – there is a definite European mood. Targa serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week as well as a light afternoon menu for snacking. Breakfast options include Bolognese on Toast – so good - a Breakky Bruschetta and the Mushroom Omelette. For lunch at Targa I have enjoyed seasonal salads like the Summer Nectarine Salad, and a Nicoise and the Beef Tagliata is delicious. For something more substantial try the Pan Roasted Salmon with peperonata The dinner menu at Targa is an extended version of the lunch menu. The Linguine with seafood is outstanding. It’s lick the bowl good! Nine times out of 10 at Targa we choose something from the daily specials so keep an eye out for something different there. Of course, we all have a second stomach for dessert, right? So it’s hard to go past the Tiramisu although when you’re feeling like something lighter an Affogato is equally as satisfying in my books! Targa also offers a small ‘snack’ menu daily between 2.30pm and 5.30pm which coincides perfectly with their Apperitivo Hours daily from 4.00 - 6.00pm where you can order $12 Cocktails, $8 wine glasses and $7 Beers.

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson

It can be tempting to buy pre-made food packed in plastic, especially if you are working a lot or feeling the pressure of shortening hours of day light. Get creative, have ‘potluck’ nights with friends, and remember that making your own food is going to keep you out of the hospital later in life. This month I am sharing warming, plastic free recipes to help you keep your bin empty and your body cosy even as the temperature is cooling down.

CAULIFLOWER MASH INGREDIENTS: • • • • • •

1 head cauliflower, cut into florets 1 tbsp virgin organic coconut oil 2-4 cloves garlic, crushed 2 tsp chilli, chopped 1/3 cup fresh, thick, homemade nut milk (walnut or macadamia are yummy and rich). Himalayan salt and ground pepper to taste

METHOD: • • • • •

Steam cauliflower until cooked (10-15 min). Let it cool in a bowl. In a separate pan, sauté garlic and chilli in the coco oil. Pour in with cauliflower. Give it all a good mash with a fork. Add in the milk and continue to mash. If it’s too thick, add in some water. Season with salt and pepper.

If you have a plastic you need help with, get in touch on Instagram @plasticfreemermaid or mermaid@iquitplastics.com

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Amber D’Enett @VALE_DENIM

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE VALE? Cult classic wardrobe staples with a clever twist.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO MOVE HQ FROM SYDNEY TO BYRON BAY? As the business grows further into the

international market trips to Paris and London were becoming more frequent. You can spend up to 6 months OS in sales market. I wanted to set up foundations to spend the rest of the year in Australia in a calming environment. I love that Byron focuses on health, sunshine and salty swims.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAV PIECE OF DENIM YOU HAVE EVER OWNED? Quartz Classic Indigo Jeans from Vale. I

spent a lot of time developing and perfecting this fit. I still have my pair from my first collection 3 years ago and they keep getting better with age.

WHAT THREE CORE STAPLE PIECES SHOULD EVERY WOMAN HAVE IN HER WARDROBE? Blue jeans, white oversized shirt and a pair of Mary- Jane’s.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR BREAK IN THE INDUSTRY? When I

moved to Sydney 10 years ago I lived in a share house with Kym Ellery and we quickly became friends. It opened up doors getting interviews for my first role in the industry. Then it’s all about how hard you work and how fast you learn.

IF YOU COULD DRESS ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE? Singer PJ Harvey, French

actress Marine Vacth and actress and model LillyRose Depp.

WHAT MAKES CLOTHING CLASSIC? When people understand the power of basic shapes in beautiful fabrics.

WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE? Lighthouse, swim, coffee and hustle in my studio. Standard right? NEED A CTA MICH!
