Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
MERCURY JUST SLIPPED INTO GEMINI
and races through the Twins’ territory within two short weeks! Communication and information overload is highly likely and people might be more than ever glued to their phones looking for transient connection. The truth might become elusive in some cases and nerves can get raw. Nevertheless while the Moon is in grounding and practical Capricorn on Thursday and Friday, lots can be achieved. On the weekend Venus in Cancer forms a beautiful grand water trine with Jupiter and Neptune. Here is a wonderful opportunity for a romantic weekend away or for immersing yourself into Mother Nature. The emotional tide is high and can also be channelled into your favourite creative endeavour. Some unconventional ideas could work out extremely well on Sunday; trust your hunches and take a risk… On Wednesday Mercury catches up with the Sun in Gemini while Venus opposes Pluto. Intense conversations may stir up controlling behaviour and result in arguments and power struggles. Therefore this is not a good time to discuss emotionally loaded topics! For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES
The 6 of Wands promises success and recognition. However some victories might feel hollow, if you have to slay any competitors or deprive others of what they need. Focus on creating win-win situations and enjoy feeling appreciated by many.
h TAURUS
The 4 of Swords illustrates the power of conflict resolution skills and negotiation. Instead of insisting on your point of view, things work out better this week if you can adopt a flexible way of thinking and communicating. Imagine yourself walking in someone else’s shoes for a while...
i GEMINI
The 8 of Wands symbolises an extremely high level of fast-paced energy, and with Sun and Mercury in your sign, you might be very busy networking, chatting and communicating in many different ways. Be mindful though, focus on the bigger picture and don’t rush into things without a plan, just because they feel opportune right now.
j CANCER
This week the 10 of Swords indicates a wet-blanket effect on your experience that is difficult to shake off. It may be helpful to slow down your mind, pay attention to its relentless negative suggestibility and deliberately reach for thoughts that feel better. The attitude of gratitude is a great antidote too!
BY GISELA
k LEO
The Temperance Tarot card describes the way of the alchemist who knows how to blend different flavours, discover subtle nuances and extract essences. In this way you are guided to overcome thinking in polarities, allow paradoxes to exist and keep focused on the greater whole. This is a very creative and highly individual process; it can be fun too!
l VIRGO
The Hermit Tarot card suggests that you leave your todo lists behind and take time off for introspection and regeneration. Remove yourself from chaotic, disharmonious or disorganised situations and retreat into your private world for some time. How about a weekend away at your favourite, natural place, all by yourself?
a LIBRA
The 4 of Wands promises exciting and delightful times! Strained relationships might overcome old grievances and find new common ground. In your efforts to embrace different perspectives while choosing the high road, you are rewarded with what you long for most – inner peace and harmony.
b SCORPIO
With Jupiter in Scorpio as part of the grand trine and the 7 of Cups drawn, a deep longing for a different life might well up in you. Naturally you might want to drown any pain about this with your favourite escape, may it be food, drinks, work or shopping… What is it that you really want and what would bring you one step closer to it today?
c SAGITTARIUS
The 6 of Disks promises an interesting and successful week. Not only are you able to get lots done, you may also find recognition and rewards for your efforts as a teacher or mentor. You feel that you are on track and you are enjoying every little part of your experience.
d CAPRICORN
With the 6 of Cups drawn it is time to relax and have a bit of fun with family, friends or the wider community. Put your time manager away, at least over the weekend, hang out with your favourite group of people, enjoy what unfolds and share the love.
e AQUARIUS
The 3 of Wands comes as a reminder that you are body, mind and soul, not just mind! The alignment between the three brings concentrated, dedicated action, based on integrity. Therefore it is not a waste of time to keep breathing deeply, feel your body and take time to attend to your physical/emotional wellbeing.
f PISCES
With Neptune as part of the grand trine and the Death Tarot card drawn there is nothing else to do but surrender, go with the flow, let go of all resistance and be ready for the new. This rebirth is potentially difficult if you hold on and try to control things. On the upside you may give yourself a chance to express newly-found parts of yourself.

DEAR KEENWA, OMG I met the yummiest, most perfect dude on the dance floor, a few days ago on a girl's night out at Woody's. The first thing I noticed was his sexy beard, I love men with beards! We've spent the whole week inseparable. I thought he was my soul mate, then he shaved. I can't go there. How do I break it off gently, I don't want to most him? - Bearded Lady
DEAR BEARDED LADY, This sounds like a severe case of shaveducking, which has been described as that lingering unease that creeps over you when you’re not 100 per cent sure if you’re into a guy or just hot for his beard. It’s known as shaveducking because you’d do anything to dodge that guy getting a shave and trimming off your affections in the process. Oops, too late. Lucky for you there is no shortage of chin fluff in this town.
DEAR KEENWA, I was at the Docs with my girlfriend and filled up my reusable drink bottle at the waiting room dispenser, as I strongly hate plastic for the damage it is doing to the planet. The receptionist got up me for taking too much! I tried to explain to her, that if my gf and I had a standard cup each, it would be 500ml which is the size of my bottle, so what's the deal? The doctor was also running 40 minutes late. - Wata Crime
DEAR WATA CRIME, I don't know about you but I'm all against paying for something that should be free. Water is a human right, yo. It comes from the damn planet that we are all inhabitants of, not just Evian. Every time we DON'T pay for water, we protest against this idea. I hope you refused to use the waterless, anti-bacterial hand soap, and ate 40 minutes worth of free mints.

This week's mantra
MAKE SPACE TO MEDITATE.
Sometimes I do it in bed. Sometimes I do it in the bath. I’ve done it in the car. I’ve done it on the beach, in the back of a taxi, on top of a mountain, in hotel rooms, waiting rooms, or squished into a seat on an airplane. Point being, you can do it (ahem, we’re talking meditation, right?) here, there, everywhere and anywhere. That said, setting up a meditation station, or a Zen Den, as I like to call it, can be a powerful tool in building a daily practice. It will serve you in the long term to develop a strong foundation for your practice and one way to ensure this is to regularly practice (at least for the first couple of months) in a peaceful space that is conducive to deep focus. It don’t need to be all fancy schmancy. It can be as simple as cushion in the corner of your bedroom. But MAKE SPACE. Carve out a little Zen Den for yourself. Make it your sweet spot. The place you go to drop in to your inner space and plug into peace. When we’re sitting in stillness and channeling a serene state, that builds a charge in the space around us. Eventually the room, corner, cupboard or cushion (whatever you’ve got) that you meditate in, or on, becomes so saturated with high frequency energy (good ju-ju) that anytime you drop into your Zen Den, you are instantly plugging in to peace. To set up your Zen Den, start simply. A blanket, lambskin or cushion you love in a quiet place is all you need. And a door. If you have kids, you probably want a door. (Ha! But srsly.) Over time you may add your journal, essential oils, crystals, candles or other sacred objects may find their way into your den of zen. But for now, start simple and just make space for meditation in your home.

This week's review
TITLE: The Tattooist of Auschwitz AUTHOR: Heather Morris NUMBER OF PAGES: 288 EST. READ TIME: 4 hours PRICE: $21 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Lale Sokolov is a Jewish man brought
to Auschwitz, one of the German concentration camps during the second world war. Amongst his many campmates he is chosen for an unthinkable job, to tattoo the incoming prisoners and label them with a number. He is known as the tattooist. During his time in the camp he falls in love with Gita, another campmate, and their love blossoms over the course of years behind Auschwitz’s electric fence. Lale, a hero amongst the camp becomes a secret caretaker to those who know of his kindness. Can Lale protect his love as well as the inmates who rely on him for safety?
WHO IT'S FOR: Fans of popular / historical fiction or an old fashioned love story.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: First and foremost, it’s a
true story. As traumatic as it can be to read about the horrors of concentration camps and the destruction of many lives this book offers hope in the love story between the book’s main characters. You can’t possibly believe that this actually happened. The narrative flows seamlessly and is an enchanting insight into a beautiful romance that flourishes in the hardest of conditions. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is raw and heartbreaking. The best novel about WWII since “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas”.
NOTABLE QUOTE: "If you wake up in the morning, it is a good day"

This week's location
BAYLEAF CAFE - 2A MARVELL STREET, BYRON BAY If I could think of one word to describe Bayleaf Café in Byron it would be ‘consistent’. The café is consistently busy. I’m talking seven days a week, rain, hail or shine, busy. But don’t be put off by the crowd. If you do need to wait for a table, it won’t be for long, as the service at Bayleaf Café is consistently swift and friendly, and I am consistently excited when my food arrives at the table because it’s always eye catching, creative and delicious. The menu at Bayleaf Café is the same across breakfast and lunch. There are lighter options like the Housemade Granola, Golden Bread, Falafel and Eggs or the Breakky Greens for a gluten free plate (optional vegan) of goodness. The Dukkah Poached Eggs is a Bayleaf Café classic. It’s organic sourdough topped with heirloom tomatoes, marjoram and mozzarella dressed with chardonnay vinegar and lavender infused honey served with two poached eggs and a showering of dukkah. Heading towards the tail end of the menu, there are options like the Pork Bun, Seared Tuna Salad and Portuguese Chicken Salad, which is a personal favourite. It’s served with southern slaw and spicy citrus aioli, warmed tortillas, charred sweet corn, manchego and chicken pieces marinated in orange and cumin. The coffee menu at Bayleaf is extensive and well worth a dabble in something different. If you don’t feel like coffee there are teas and chai, hot chocolate, iced beverages, kombucha and must try seasonal ginger beer.

SaVe E DAT THE
STOLEN
JUNE 18 / BYRON THEATRE Originally created 20 years ago, Stolen has been revived by Wiradjuri director Vicki Van Hout’s and has been described as a must see for all Australia’s. The play interweaves the stories of five children who dealt with the issues of forceful removal from their families and tries to encapsulate the experiences of the Stolen Generations. The play is set to playground-inspired choreography and a rhythmic soundscape and its contemporary retelling could be a thoughtful and moving reminder of our history. Humor, hope and a few tears to be expected. Tickets will sell out fast. Visit www.byroncentre.com.au

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson
PLASTIC FREE JULY IS COMING: BE COMPASSIONATE Plastic Free July is a challenge to go the entire month without using plastics. To what extent you interpret this is up to you. You may choose to free yourself of all single-use plastics, such as plastic bags and bottles and straws. You may choose to free yourself of all plastic packaging on your food by shopping at farmer’s market and bulk food stores. You could take on the challenge personally or as a household or with your classmates and colleagues. I encourage you to take on this challenge! You are more likely to be successful if you are prepared with your reusable items, be willing to get creative in the moment to avoid plastics, and be compassionate. Be compassionate with yourself if you mess up. Be compassionate with others who may not be fully aware of the impact of plastic pollution. This movement back to nature does not need aggressive activists excluding others or plastic-shaming. Lead by example with positive vibes. When you hear yourself telling someone about micro plastics and the trash gyre, offer just as many solutions as depressing statistics. Inspire others to make changes through your own changes.
Good luck this month in your preparation and get in touch with any questions. More tips at @plasticfreemermaid and iquitplastics.com

Tess Pollard @POSITIVECHANGEFORMARINELIFE
WHO IS POSITIVE CHANGE FOR MARINE LIFE (PCFML)?
PCFML is a not for profit charity founded in Byron Bay. Our focus is to create long-term positive change to marine conservation issues worldwide. Since PCFMLs humble beginnings we have run campaigns in Byron Bay, Gold Coast, India, Brazil and Japan.
WHAT DO THEY DO? PCFML work with and educate
local communities on conserving marine ecosystems through a range of programs and campaigns.
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE? Honour the Ocean Survey Officer - Byron Bay.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE PROGRAMS AND EVENTS PCFML OFFER IN BYRON BAY? In the Bay we currently run a
variety of campaigns; Plastic Bag Free Byron, Smoke Free Beaches, Activ8 Education and Awareness and our latest, Don’t be a Sucker (single use plastic free) campaign. We also hold fortnightly beach surveys at Main beach on Saturday mornings and monthly afternoon beach surveys at 7 Mile Beach.
HOW CAN WE GET INVOLVED? There are heaps of ways to
get involved, from lending a hand at a beach survey, checking our website to see if there are any volunteer positions available, becoming a member or making a donation. Any help is hugely appreciated.
THREE SIMPLE STEPS WE CAN TAKE TO REDUCE OUR IMPACT ON THE OCEAN? 1. Look at the stuff in your bathroom
cabinet, try to use natural products where you can or things not packaged in plastic. 2. Shop second hand. 3. Try to stay open minded and active in educating yourself about our environment and how to take better care of it. Get involved in this years World Ocean Day on June 8th.
