Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST
THIS IS ANOTHER BIG WEEK! ON
Thursday a Venus/Uranus earth trine is highly inspirational and, in combination with a Venus/Saturn earth trine (exact on Saturday), it forms a great window of opportunity. It infuses enthusiasm and practical down-to-earth energy into any great idea or invention. It may be extremely useful to ground a project in a practical way and take it to the next level. But we also have to deal with the extreme energy of Friday’s New Moon which takes place in super-sensitive Cancer territory and is a solar eclipse (visible in Tasmania and South Australia). The next two weeks until the lunar eclipse on the Full Moon may be intense for many people. It is a time of letting go of the old and making room for the new which can be particularly challenging for earth and water signs. As if that is not enough to deal with, Pluto the big transformer, is in opposition to Sun and Moon during the New Moon time. Internal pressure might peak; inner and outer power battles can erupt and may shake some people to the core of their being. If you survived the weekend well, Monday and Tuesday harbour excellent potential for getting ahead with a detailed project, furthering business plans and any career-related issues. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

With the 10 of Wands drawn the feeling that the odds are stacked up against you might be creeping into your consciousness more than once during this week. Your own resistance to shifting conditions leads to further frustration. What if you just relax and let go for now and let the winds of change blow over you without being reactive?
h TAURUS
The 6 of Cups promises a truly revitalising and pleasurable week ahead. Focus on the good things in life, the people you love and especially children. Your warm and heartfelt interactions are delightful for others as much as they are for you. You may be able to help or heal someone close to you who is distressed.
i GEMINI
The Knight of Disks symbolises wariness and an overly cautious approach to changing circumstances or situations. Right now you prefer the safe and known path; you’d rather work harder to preserve things as they are. You might have to settle for small gains but you have less stress. This attitude might take a toll on your self-worth though.
j CANCER
The current astro flavour may bring a very personal experience of change, letting go and transformation. The Prince of Wands is here to come to your rescue! He is confident, daring and doesn’t sweat the small stuff. He assists you to rise to the challenge and he provides optimism and vision.
BY GISELA
k LEO
With the 3 of Disks drawn, it pays to work on planning, management and teamwork. This might be much easier for you if you are the boss! If you have to accept instructions or negotiate details, cooperation is the one ingredient that makes or breaks the envisioned outcome. Avoid power struggles!
l VIRGO
The Lovers Tarot card symbolises the art and craft of relating. Since the astro flavour of this week harbours some challenges in connection to loved ones, you are encouraged to walk the tightrope between being true to yourself, but also caring towards others when opposition occurs.
a LIBRA
The Prince of Disks has a rather pragmatic approach to any emotionally challenging situation. When in doubt just take care of all the little details of your life that need to be done anyway. This steady and responsible tactic is soothing for the nerves and leads to more clarity and harmony at the end of the day.
b SCORPIO
The Emperor Tarot card appeals to your leadership qualities. You have a natural gift for business, an intrinsic wisdom for planning and execution of your strategies, and a staying power which is admired by many. This week you may advance a project or succeed in some important negotiations and find recognition as a benevolent, but unshakable superior.
c SAGITTARIUS
The Ace of Swords’ gift is mental clarity in a time that brings up insecurities and inner tensions. You have the ability to cut through confusion and doubt. This week you might have a peak-experience of insight and awareness that changes your consciousness profoundly.
d CAPRICORN
The Queen of Wands represents passion and compassion in her most feminine form; her quest is self-mastery. You have the gift of realising other people’s essence and you assist willingly in their self-realisation. Now it is time to direct this talent towards yourself and have absolute faith in your abilities.
e AQUARIUS
The 5 of Disks in combination with this week’s astro flavour might bring old insecurities and worries that you thought were dealt with a long time ago. Don’t despair; find compassion for yourself rather than judging yourself as inadequate. Most of all, don’t indulge in any worst case ‘whatif’ scenarios of your mind.
f PISCES
The Fool Tarot card appears for the second time in a row! You may find yourself in the midst of a great, ecstatic transformation that changes who you are and how you approach your life. During this process you might be able to let go of some fears and misconceptions that have been plaguing you for a long time.

DEAR KEENWA, My kid is dropping adult teeth like flies. Where's my baby gone?! I love seeing his face when he looks under his pillow in the morning to check if the tooth fairy has been. So far, so good. The problem is, his dad and I don't live together, and my ex wants the tooth fairy to come twice. Each tooth. - Fairy Business

DEAR FAIRY BUSINESS, Look, men always want to come twice. But it sounds like he is coming from a kind place, so I say you break it to him gently. You could tell him you had a visit from the Child Support fairy, (you know, the cool little one who pays all the bills that he refuses to) who is kinda the boss in fairyland, and reckons that the tooth actually gets turned into a crystal, not a dollar coin, so once its gone, it's gone dad. Tell him you're sorry. Hand him a tissue. Then the most current outstanding invoice to pass onto Child Support fairy.
DEAR KEENWA, I have a strict policy with dating. I don't mind no shoes, or van life, but the candidates must have a job. But it's Byron Bay. I know it's not their fault, but I haven't met a good looking guy who works, this year. Can you give me a hall pass? - Cenno Spono'd Cupid
DEAR CENNO SPONO'D CUPID, I absolutely cannot. But you could try a little reverse psychology to even out the polarity. If you're really into someone, quit your job. Start with forgetting your purse on the next dinner date. Then be at his house (particularly around menstruation time) when he gets back from the surf, and please leave all the dishes in the sink. The sooner you drop outta the masculine, stable, provider role and drop into your rightful role of the wild feminine which is all about instability and receiving, the quicker this guy'll have to man up and provide. This week's mantra NO IS NOT A DIRTY WORD.
Many of us say "Yes" just because it's awkward to say no. Some of us break out in a sweat just thinking about uttering that tiny two-letter word! But no is not a dirty word. So, I present to you a little mix-tape of how to say N.O. • Soften the blow of your NO. Include a posture of appreciation. "Thank you for thinking of me" or "This sounds really amazing" or "I'm honoured" are nice ways to soften the blow of your No. • Tell the truth. You don't need to make up excuses or tell a white lie. The truth of your No can shed a little light for people - it helps them understand it's not personal, it's practical. Plus, people won’t like you less for keeping it real, they’ll respect you more. • Explain that you can't offer what they need. If someone asks you to commit to something you don't have the resources for, politely decline. "This sounds interesting and I’m honoured you thought of me. But at this time, I'm not able to contribute the energy and time your project deserves." • Change your perspective. Feel like you're denying the person by saying No? Flip the script on that. You're not denying them. You're creating space for someone else to say Yes. Someone who is better equipped for the job at hand. Someone with a better set of skills, more time, more energy. Your No makes way for someone else’s Yes. Can you dig it? Service versus servitude, people. You don't need to be everybody's everything. I hope these tools help you become a little more conscious when you say Yes, and a little more comfortable when you say No. Now go on, flex that No muscle. The more you use it the more dexterous it will become.

PLASTIC FREE Mermaid Healthy choices, healthy body, healthy oceans With Kate Nelson
HERE ARE SOME HECTIC STATS TO SUPPORT YOUR PLASTIC FREE JULY COMMITMENT! Want to turn it up a notch? Write these on scraps of paper and leave them around your workplace, home, or random cafés. Ignite your inner activist and go do some guerilla solo campaigning. •
Worldwide we use approximately 500 billion single-use plastic bags per year. AKA a million bags every minute or 150 bags a year for every human on earth. Joining the bags end to end they would circumnavigate the globe 4,200 times. Despite bag bans, the number is rising.
•
Humans make more than 300 million tons of plastic every year, 50% is for single use items.
•
World wide, 13,000-15,000 pieces of plastic are dumped into the ocean every day. Over 8 million tons of plastic gets dumped into our oceans every year, AKA 1 rubbish truck of waste every minute.
•
An estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic float in every square mile of ocean.
•
In 2014 the plastic to fish ratio by weight in the ocean was 1:5. In 2050 the plastic to fish ratio by weight in the ocean is expected to exceed 1:1.
Write a solution on the back of the paper, so that your activism is inspiring. We have all seen depressing documentaries that end without any solutions. Awareness best leads to change when we can also offer activities to transform the knowledge into action! Good luck and if you go rogue and paint the town green, tag me @plasticfreemermaid so I can see your work!

BOOKS FOR Y
This week's review
TITLE: My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises
AUTHOR: Frederik Backman NUMBER OF PAGES: 400 EST. READ TIME: 6 hours and 23 minutes PRICE: $16 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Amidst her parent’s divorce and the
bullies at school, eight year old Elsa finds solace in her grandmother’s extravagant bedtime stories. Elsa and Granny are best friends, so when Granny dies, Elsa is left in charge to continue their adventures. She is left with a series of letters and clues, Elsa’s grandmother sends her on a mission to deliver messages to those she has wronged throughout her life. On this wild ride, Elsa soon learns about her grandmother’s life before she was born and the people she has helped along the way.
WHO IT'S FOR: Lovers of a quirky read. All ages can read
this book and find something special within its pages. The title itself speaks volumes about its peculiarity. An ode to our imaginations and the power they hold.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: The book is written from
Elsa’s perspective. She is a precocious eight year old with some serious sass. At times it can be grating but mostly her voice is outrageous and entertaining. You’ll be taken back to childhood where ‘the adults’ seemed like superheroes, mysterious and wonderful.
NOTABLE QUOTE: “Having a grandmother is like having an army. This is a grandchild's ultimate privilege: knowing that someone is on your side, always, whatever the details. Even when you are wrong. Especially then, in fact. A grandmother is both a sword and a shield.”

CHIHUAHUA TAQUERIA - FEROS ARCADE, BYRON BAY
Chihuahua Taqueria is tucked away in the Feros Arcade in downtown Byron Bay. The menu is brief but cetainly big enough. Being a taqueria it’s all about tacos. There are six taco options – Pescado (Fish), Pollo (Chicken), Cerdo (Pork), Vegetale (Vegetable), Carne (Brisket) and Gamba (Prawn). The tacos all come served with house made slaw and a Pico de Gallo salsa. The tacos are served on locally made Doña Cholita blue and white organic corn tortillas. You really can taste the corn and they give the tacos another level of authenticity. The Cerdo (Pork) is my hands down favourite. The taco is abundant with pulled pork meat which is balanced by a pineapple and roast pepper salsa and chipotle aioli. Plus, there is the added bonus of some crunchy crackling for garnish. Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice and what’s not to love? The Pescado (Fish) taco is great as well. Beer battered and served with a charred corn and roast pepper salsa and some more of that smoky chipotle aioli. Keep an eye out for the specials board as well. There are regular taco specials such as Snapper Ceviche or sometimes something fun like Jalapeño Poppers. There is a small selection of cold drinks available from the fridge. For some tasty tacos away from the crowds, slip by Chihuahua Taqueria Byron Bay, where the food is fresh and authentic.

Alex Wales @FREDRICK_ALEXANDER_WALES
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST? I
am an illustrator and painter, the work I create can have distorted areas of landscapes, figures as well as realistic compositions.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK? I love the ocean,
coming from Cornwall, I’ve always had a emotional attachment to rough and rugged landscapes, wind, rain, and storms. I tend to be attracted to movement within landscapes.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE TO DATE? I’ve
recently submitted a piece for the Border Art prize, currently hanging at Tweed regional gallery called “Two Brave Souls”. The image portrays two surfers, in line up at Cabarita Beach during a large swell last year.
WHAT ARE YOU READING? Instagram feeds mainly …
but seriously, I listen to audio books instead whilst commuting to work. The last audio book I listened to was a recommendation from several friends called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson – definitely worth getting if you’re looking for inspiration or a kick up the behind.
HOW DOES LIVING IN THE NORTHERN RIVES INSPIRE YOUR ART? The landscape is so diverse, the coast with aweinspiring lookouts to the rainforest, open farmland, mountains, and wetlands. The whole Byron Bay and surrounding area is inspiring and it’s amazing to be able to experience nature at its best and be exposed to different elements that are so close.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING SHOW, RECONNECTION? Having worked in graphic design for 8
years+, Re-connection is my first show outside of the UK and explores my “Re-connection” to creating art by painting local surf spots in the Ballina area where I live. Re-connection runs until 29th July at NRCG Ballina.
