blue outfit and get yourself to Main Beach by 9am to join Kate in spelling ‘ban the bag’ on the sand, which will be filmed by a drone. Over in the Arts & Industry Estate, Santos Organics is due to present a free composting talk in front of its Bayshore Drive cafe at 10am, and from 5pm Thom Gallery will be kicking off its first birthday bash with drinks and nibbles for all at its 6 Fern Place premises. Finally, following the Morning of the Mo charity surf comp in Ballina, The Brewery will be throwing an after-party from 7pm, with gold coin donation entry proceeds going to Movember. If you’re looking for a feed on Sunday, the third installment of the YAC’s Food Truck Party is the place to be from 3-9pm, and for those clever enough to have pre-purchased tickets to the charmingly-named Gizzfest at The Northern from 6pm (with headliners King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard), have fun!

G TO SAY?

ACTIVE WEAR FOR WHERE? - FITNESS FIRST I have noticed that there are a lot of woman around town wearing activewear; the latest fashion trend usually found in Melbourne, Sydney and LA. The outfit usually consists of colourful and branded leggings, a crop top and a fresh blow wave; fit to transition straight from workout to brunch. I am wondering if the fashion has moved so far away from practical, comfortable and functional gym wear so that, ironically it is actually now inappropriate for the gym?

NATURAL ART LOVER - DISGRUNTLED GEOLOGIST I saw that some of the rocks at the Wreck have been graffitied when I was walking my dog yesterday. This is disgusting! This is a beautiful rock wall and it just seems to be taken over by litter, ciggy butts and now graffiti. Those that park their vans up for the night should be more respectful of our beautiful surrounds and leave the natural elements alone from their tags. What happened to the global motto of van lifers ‘leaving no trace’?

DEAR KEENWA, My tarot cards keep saying I should stop seeing my ex. But they don't know him like I do. Do the oracles lie? Don't they have their own triggers and mummy daddy issues? How do I know they're just not jealous of what we have? Is the death card really that final? Mirror, Mirror

DEAR MIRROR, MIRROR, Oh, they can be so passive aggressive sometimes can't they? I once had the mother card for nine whole months when I was preggers. Of course death isn't the end. It's part of a whole cycle. Without seeing his criminal history or yours, it could just be the death of your current pattern of relating. Maybe you'll transcend into a bird or a plane, maybe it means that you are facing the end of the world as you know it, that you're feeling fine, that you need to slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.

DEAR KEENWA, My boyfriend always wants to drive my car when we go out. The feminist in me thinks I should drive, especially since it's my damn car, but the mummy uber in me is so tired from pounding the Pacific Highway pavement all week.Who drives who? I'm scared of stuffing up our masculine feminine bedroom dynamic, but I don't want to turn my back on my own sex. Miss Daisy's Bae

DEAR MISS DAISY'S BAE, How does he drive? Is he the sweaty palms, traffic light-stalling, jittery merging man, or is he a roadraging, coffee cup leaving, non-indicator? Maybe he's all Snoop Dog Lion; one hand on the wheel, one hand on your thigh, cranking the tunes as he flies? As Albert Einstein once said, “any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.”I tend to agree.

This week's mantra KEEP PRACTICING. When I don’t know what to do next, when I sense myself drifting downward or moving away from love, I meet myself on my mat. My practice is a sacred pause. To process. To seek perspective. To clear. To refine. To reset. Moving my body with devotion, attending to each breath with dedication. Connecting body, breath and mind with the sacred thread of my attention. Slowly stilling the choppy waters of the mind. Methodically distilling murky emotions until they run clear again. Practicing, practicing, practicing (on the mat) so that I might meet more and more moments of my life (off the mat) with grace, alignment and integrity.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

LEADING UP TO THE NEW MOON ON Saturday a lot of healing and transformation is possible. With four planets (Sun, Moon, Venus and Jupiter) in Scorpio the New Moon flavour is intense, passionate and courageous, but also tends to conceal rather than reveal. Nevertheless, if you have been experiencing friction in a relationship, this is the time for a clearing, heart-to-heart conversation. Deep feelings may be encountered, but a Venus/Neptune water trine provides ease and grace, while a Sun/Moon/Chiron water trine shines a healing light into any issue. If you have used these days wisely the Mars/Pluto square, which is exact on Sunday, won’t bring up inner conflict, irritation or a standoff with one of your dear ones. If you chose to remain silent however, you might feel the consequences strongly over the next few days. Monday and Tuesday are great days for any kind of negotiation. Watch out for the surprise factor though and remember that the long-lasting Saturn/Uranus fire trine (exact last week) focuses on taking care of responsibilities, while factoring in enough personal freedom to not feel suffocated or taken advantage of. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

g ARIES

The Justice card represents your willingness to search for the truth and to speak it. You are guided by ethical principles and you are determined to bring balance back into your life and the lives of your loved ones. Situations that have been ‘doing your head in’ for a while might come to a simple solution.

h TAURUS

The 4 of Swords indicates that right now it is time to relax, stop worrying about outcomes and take time off from the preoccupations that overwhelm you mentally. As you step back and recharge your batteries, things develop in their own time, and you may find that doing nothing might actually just be your best bet.

i GEMINI

The 2 of Cups symbolises love in action. Allow everything you do to be infused by a generous, caring and compassionate spirit. If it’s not helping or healing – don’t say it, and if it is not constructive – don’t do it. Find ways to move towards love in every encounter and within your own heart and mind.

j CANCER

The 6 of Wands represents victory and the acknowledgment, recognition and respect that come with it. Deep in your heart your triumph might leave a feeling of emptiness though, and your success feels much sweeter if you are able to create a win-win situation for everyone involved.

BY GISELA

k LEO

The Knight of Cups is often called the ‘knight in shining armour’; he appears as a messenger, brings an invitation or offers a gift. He also invites you to explore how to share your gifts graciously and be of service to others.

l VIRGO

The 4 of Wands nudges you to open up to new possibilities. Issues that have been troubling you for a while may now find a very positive resolution. Trust yourself, speak your truth and let love be the motivating factor for any action.

a LIBRA

With the Judgement card drawn it is now time to focus on the bigger picture; any decisions that you make must include an honest appraisal of your current situation and should be guided by a longterm perspective. You may get closer to recognising your true vocation…

b SCORPIO

The Fool Tarot card in combination with the astro flavour of the New Moon in your sign marks a time of profound change, a new beginning or even a quantum leap, and it is even more potent if this is your birthday week. You need to listen to your heart and abandon any old fears to reach the full potential of your original and creative inspirations.

c SAGITTARIUS

The 3 of Disks suggests that one of your projects needs more dedication, focus or commitment. The old habit of doubting your path may need to be examined and you might realise how it is connected with holding back and self-sabotage.

d CAPRICORN

The World Tarot card symbolises your concern and care for Gaia. You are a natural explorer, adventurer and builder of new worlds. This week you might make travel plans, work on innovative ideas or focus on your very personal liberation. All is well because you use your gifts and talents for the greater good of all.

e AQUARIUS

The Ace of Disks mirrors your readiness for inner and outer riches. This week should bring concrete results, which are not achieved by hard work alone, but also by believing in your worthiness and your alignment with the concept of prosperity.

f PISCES

The watery astro flavour of this week combined with the 9 of Swords drawn might have a ‘wet blanket’ effect on your overall experience and outlook. As soon as you realise that you are overly critical, switch to the attitude of gratitude for those things that are working out for you; this allows you to feel instant relief.

Beet Kvass tonic

@BYRONBAYALIVEFOODS INGREDIENTS • 3-4 medium sized beetroots • 1 small piece each of turmeric & ginger

• 1 tbsp sea salt • Dash of sauerkraut juice

METHOD • Chop the beetroot in cubes and slice the ginger and turmeric. Place in a 1.5 l glass jar which has been washed with hot soapy water and rinsed thoroughly. Husband and wife team Anna and David are the proud creators of Byron Bay Alive Foods. They both have a strong passion for fermented foods, gut health and love sharing their knowledge in hope to provide inspiration and motivation to dive deeper into the world of fermented and cultured foods and beverages. This easy tonic recipe is packed with probiotics and provides comfort and strength, especially for the liver.

18 BYRON BAZAAR

• Mix 250ml springwater or filtered water with salt and kraut juice in a separate jar. Stir to combine. Add to jar with beetroots and then top up with enough water to leave only about 2cm at the top. Cover the jar with a piece of muslin held down with an elastic band. • Leave jar at room temperature and out of direct sunlight for 3-4 days. Then screw on lid and store in the fridge.

• Can also serve with mineral water, ice and some lemon or orange slices for a cooling drink

Q&A A Q U IC K C H

A T W IT H .. .

Mama Kin @MAMAKINPICS

MAMA KIN, YOU HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED AS THE 'PATRON SAINT' OF THE MULLUM MUSIC FESTIVAL. WHAT DOES THIS ROLE ENTAIL? I think generally being a saint means you have to have performed a miracle, so I can’t attest to having done anything miraculous lately however I do think great music festivals that roll out year after year, managing to effectively engage and reflect the community and it’s spirit so authentically is a bit of a miracle, or a maker of miracles. My role is really so easy. I just get to talk about the festival, and what is wonderful about it.

YOU’VE PLAYED THE FESTIVAL A FEW TIMES, WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK? There is so much to come back for.

The feel of the Mullum Festival is so special and so rare, and let’s face it, those hills are actually alive! The town and the community open their arms to you, while you swim in the discovery of new and exciting music, or music that you have long hoped to hear, while eating delicious food.

YOU DEBUTED YOUR COLLABORATION WITH TOM SPENDER AT THE BELLO WINTER MUSIC FESTIVAL EARLIER THIS YEAR. WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR COLLABORATION? The inspiration for this collaboration

is friendship, connection, and community through the vehicle of our songs. We will be working with a 16 strong local Mullum choir for the festival this year. Tommy and I have been friends for many years, he is a fellow cheeky trouble maker. You can catch Muma Kin Spender performing at Mullum Music Festival, 16-19th November. Event info and full line up available at www.mullummusicfestival.com
