Dr. Jim Blake, PEO STRI’s Program Executive Officer, was honored with the National Training and Simulation Association’s (NTSA) 2013 Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in Training and Simulation during an awards ceremony at the recently completed Interservice/ Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference. The announcement of the award was published in the tradeshow’s daily newsletter and read:
SGS&C Winners Announced, Students Vote for New Award By Terri M. Bernhardt
The 2013 Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C) winners were announced at a “standing room only” ceremony in Warfighters Corner at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) Thursday, Dec. 4. With 17 games exhibited on the floor during the 4-day I/ITSEC show, more than 15,000 attendees were presented with a diverse cross-section of what is possible in the field of Serious Games. New in the 2013 Challenge was a partnership with Orange County (FL) Public Schools (OCPS) to create the Students’ Choice Award. Six of the finalists competed for the new award chosen by a selection of OCPS students.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs declared Dec. 1-7 as “STEM Week” in Orange County with a signed proclamation during the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). Jacobs presented the signed proclamation to Team Orlando, Orange County Public Schools and the National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA), the organizers of I/ ITSEC.
Team Orlando Hosts First Industry Day Jan. 30 On Jan. 30, Team Orlando will host its first Industry Day, in partnership with the National Center for Simulation. Up to twelve companies will be featured and have the opportunity to showcase any new and exciting capabilities for acquisition and professional personnel from all Team Orlando commands. The inaugural Industry Day will be held in the UCF Partnership III Building, 3039 Technology Parkway, Room #321, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those not selected to demonstrate at this event can be reconsidered for the next Industry Day.

The 2013 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) was held in Orlando Dec. 2-5. ADL’s Next Generation Learner team presented several sessions about transmedia learning techniques that use a storytelling approach to deliver rich, evolving content via diverse media. Team Lead Dr. Elaine Raybourn provided a tutorial on Transmedia Learning for Military Training and Education. She also presented a paper on the topic and participated in a panel that was moderated by Mr. Frank DiGiovanni, Director of Training Readiness & Strategy, DASD (Readiness). The panelists discussed how transmedia learning techniques could help to empower an agile force.

NCS Hosts Roundtable on Tax Credits NCS member alliantgroup has recently helped four MS&T Industry companies receive more than $1.5 million in tax credit cash refunds. These tax credits were awarded for innovative IT activities they performed in the normal course of developing their products and services. With the ongoing budget battles on Capitol Hill, these tax credits are in jeopardy of not being extended.
