Clinton: Orlando Simulation Industry Great Economic Example By Terri Bernhardt

Former President Bill Clinton recently visited Orlando and delivered the Spring Commencement speech to thousands of graduates from the College of Health, Public Affairs and College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida. “UCF was pleased that President Clinton helped us celebrate our 50th anniversary year by speaking at commencement,” Grant Heston, Associate Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs, UCF stated. “His affection for UCF was clear, and it is a memory our students will have for a lifetime. There’s no doubt that 2013 was one of the most challenging planning years for GameTech organizers, with sequestration and a hard stance on any government travel. But knowing the importance of bringing together the involved areas in serious gaming and its translation into so many training arenas, the National Center for Simulation (NCS) and Team Orlando pushed forward and in the end, were very happy with the success of GameTech. PEO STRI's Joe Giunta: Getting to Know the PARC By Dolly Rairigh Glass

Joe Giunta is the Director of the Acquisition Center for the Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) and serves as the Principal Assistant Responsible for Contracting (PARC). In this position, he is responsible for both the contract execution and contract administration, and oversight of a multi-billion portfolio and greater than 3,000 contract actions annually. He is also responsible for leading more than 180 contracting professionals.

PM TRADE Launches Initiative with Industry Partners By Rob Wolf

Chances are very high that anyone remotely supporting the live training community is familiar with the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES). The MILES laser code standard has been the foundation of Project Manager Training Devices’ (PM TRADE) live force-on-force product line success since its adoption in the early 1980s. Since then, more than 250,000 MILES systems have been fielded worldwide, and are still in production today, to simulate the hit and kill effects of direct fire engagements from Soldiers and weapon systems. An important milestone was achieved on April 26, marking the release of the 1.0.0 version of the Experience API (xAPI) specification. Numerous contributors from the distributed learning community had a hand in shaping and authoring this new spec.

Busy Month of May for NCS Members With a little help from Mother Nature and a break in the rain, the National Center for Simulation hosted its annual golf tournament at Stoneybrook East Golf Club on May 3 to benefit the Vince & Beth Amico Scholarship for Modeling and Simulation University of Central Florida and the Henry C. Who Visited Team Orlando? Vice Admiral David Dunaway, Commander, Naval Air Systems Command, addressed employees of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division and Naval Support Activity Orlando on May 9 at the Town Hall Hall. He discussed his vision and priorities for NAVAIR during a time of contracting defense budgets. “It costs about $16,000 an hour to fly a plane for training,” he explained while addressing how modeling and simulation products from Orlando help increase military proficiency at a lower cost to the taxpayer.
