The Heartbeat of Medical Simulation By Terri Bernhardt

The pressure is on. You are handed a five-member family with a strong medical history ranging from illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, breast cancer, depression, celiac and gout. They need constant attention and research; their ages range from 1 to 64 and they are considered the “sickest family in Orlando.” Your job is to heal them in one semester, and the realism is enough to make a medical student break into a sweat. This technology, called Virtual Patient, is a game that was developed in conjunction with Dr. Juan Cendan at the UCF College of Medicine, which can be programmed with a variety of illnesses to which the student must learn to respond.

September 3-5 It’s one of those common sayings, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” In the case of Harry Robinson, his father’s Navy service inspired his GameTech Conference own, and now his son, Andrew, is headed into his second year in the Rosen Shingle Creek Navy ROTC at the University of Florida. He has aspirations of following in www.gametechconference.com the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. One of Robinson’s fondest memories of his Navy career, he said, came at December 1-4 I//ITSEC his own retirement, which coincided with the Change of Command that would relieve him as the Commanding Officer for the Naval Air Warfare Orange County Convention Training Systems Division.
