New Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) Commander, Colonel Bradley “Critter” Crites, grew up in the other surf and sun state on the west coast. He went to college in California, graduating from the University of California Irvine, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Crites participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) through California State University – Long Beach, as one of the “cross-town cadets,” commuting between the two campuses, and was commissioned in 1991.

Serious Games Showcase & Challenge, the premiere venue for recognition of excellence in the field of Serious Games development, announced its 2014 finalists, narrowing down the field of submissions to only 19 games. An esteemed panel of evaluators will now review the finalists and determine the winners in the Business, Government and Student categories. Some of the finalists are also competing for the Best Mobile Game, Students’ Choice and Special Emphasis Award categories.
Team Orlando, Partners Make Learning! 100 List By Dolly Rairigh Glass
Last month, Team Orlando, along with some of their most influential partners, was named to the 2014 Learning! 100 list, celebrating their excellence. These organizations and institutions are leading their fields with learning and training personnel and programs that are “undisputedly among the cream of the crop nationally,” according to Elearning! Magazine. Elearning! Magazine describes these honors to be unique among others because they have a solid, research-based approach that offers organizations a level playing field despite size.

The ADL Initiative will conduct an Experience API (xAPI) PlugFest on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at this year’s I/ITSEC. Participants will spend the morning learning about how the xAPI, a component of the Training and Learning Architecture (TLA), works and how it can be www.CentralFloridaMarines.org used to increase learning and performance effectiveness. The afternoon will be a unique opportunity for attendants to engage in xAPI-enabled system design and construction through hands-on tutorials.
Final 2014 Industry Capability Day this Week Join National Center for Simulation and Team Orlando for Fall Industry Capability Day on October 22. This will be the final one of 2014. The event takes place in Partnership 3, Room 321 A/B and is a come and go set up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are no costs associated with attending, and the event is open to all government, industry and academia who are interested in seeing innovative capabilities. Procedural Model Generation Service Helps Improve Training By Dolly Rairigh Glass
A new software tool, the Procedural Model Generation Services (PMGS), is directly impacting the success of the Rapid Data Generation Program of Record by providing high-quality models to external simulation systems without the need for a large handcreated library, thus enhancing the training environments to improve Soldier readiness. The Research & Development program under which PMGS is being generated is co-funded/ managed by Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED), Simulation and Training Technology (STTC).

Hall of Fame, New Board Members and Membership Night The National Center for Simulation is currently accepting applications for nominees for the Modeling and Simulation 2015 Hall of Fame class. The principle objective of the NCS Modeling and Simulation Hall of Fame is to honor and recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to advancements in modeling and simulation. It was founded in March 2014 in Orlando. Nominees are not limited only to defense as their field or area of achievement. Nominees who have given significant contributions in other areas like medical/healthcare, technology, entertainment, transportation, education, homeland security, gaming, and other areas are also encouraged for consideration.
Team Orlando: Support Beyond the Office Walls By Dolly Rairigh Glass
It’s not unusual to see the Team Orlando lead Services supporting one another, working side-by-side with other partners to develop programs and products to benefit and strengthen the Warfighter. But a few times out of the year, they take it away from the office and support each other outside of those walls, taking part in the rich traditions of birthday celebrations, the fun of golf tournaments, and the team building that comes from other social gatherings.

Earlier this year, the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative announced the opening of the submissions period for the 2014 Learning App Challenge (LAC). The goal of the LAC was for participants to create and submit innovative Apps to help students acquire knowledge or skills by manipulating tasks, simulations, or situations that require students to critically evaluate what they are learning. The intent was to help students discover, understand, or apply what they have learned through the app.
CMWRA Makes Bucs Tickets Available The CMWRA Board is still selling Tampa Buccaneers Football tickets for the Dec. 28 New Orleans Saints game. The cost of tickets range between $65 and $75. CMWRA will be subsidizing $5 toward the $15 cost, per person, for the first 55 employees, per game, making the price $10 per person. If employees have already purchased a ticket for these games from another source, they can purchase the bus transportation for $15. With regards to the bus transportation, a liability form is required and will be completed, prior to getting on the bus the day of the events.
