Cyber training, the acquisition workforce and the growing world of live, virtual and constructive simulation dominated a gathering of defense leaders in Orlando. This was especially true for a participant who came back to the city to assume his dream job. Lt. Col. Walt Yates, program manager, Training Systems returned to Orlando about six months prior to taking the podium front and center at the Combined Professionals Association Group’s annual Defense Forum Breakfast in January.

I/ITSEC 2015 is featuring a Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) special event on the floor, which JTIEC Director and co-organizer Kent Gritton is calling, “The Road to a Consistent, Persistent LVC.” NTSA announced the establishment of an LVC network on the show floor for the purpose of showcasing industry modeling and simulation capabilities, in conjunction with Department of Defense M&S capabilities, and advancing the state of LVC.

Base commanders representing military installations throughout Florida met with Governor Rick Scott at Naval Support Activity Orlando on March 12. Demonstrating the unique partnership between the military services’ modeling and simulation agencies and the University of Central Florida, NSA Orlando Commanding Officer, Capt. Wes Naylor hosted the periodic meeting in the Partnership III Building adjacent to NSA Orlando.
SGS&C refines itself in 2008; prepares for longevity By Dolly Rairigh Glass
Two successful Serious Games Showcase & Challenge events in 2006 and 2007 led to more discovery and understanding about what was really going to make this event sustain itself. In preparation for the 2008 SGS&C, continued refinements were made to ensure the Challenge’s longevity. In the beginning years, the IPT worked diligently to accomplish a level playing field within industry.

NCS NCS launches M&S certification program for high school students The National Center for Simulation (NCS) announced at the 2014 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference its plans to launch an industry-accredited certification program for high school students, enabling them to prepare for STEM careers with a focus on Modeling and Simulation.

A number of University of Central Florida and Daytona State College students have benefited from successful years of fund raising for the National Center for Simulation, like UCF Graduate Research Assistant Rebecca Leis. The work continues at the 2015 National Center for Simulation and Lou Frey Institute Charity Golf Tournament on March 30, ready to give more students the support to help them realize their dreams.

ADL recently published a white paper (open for public comment) on controlled vocabulary considerations for the xAPI. While not intended to be an exhaustive list of solutions, it is an initial exploration into some of the development, discoverability, and management challenges that will need to be addressed to align xAPI vocabularies with best practices and standards.
