October 2015 EDS creates strategic data components for simulations By Theresa Bradley
Behind every modeling and simulation trainer lies thousands, perhaps millions, of data points that produce the real-world training experience for which MS&T is known. But obtaining reliable and accurate data inputs is costly and time consuming. Enterprise Data Services (EDS), a program of the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation, is the source of Big Data used today in a wide range of military modeling and simulation (MS&T) trainers. It gathers data to benefit users of military simulation and training devices across all branches of the military.

Drum roll please for the 2015 SGS&C finalists By Dolly Rairigh Glass
After months and months of preparation, and three days of playing, evaluating and sorting game submissions from all across the world, the 2015 Serious Games Showcase & Challenge finalists have been selected and will be a part of this year’s Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in the SGS&C booth (#2481).
Be a teacher for the day Courtesy of the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools
Each November, in celebration of American Education Week, the Foundation brings business and civic leaders into the classrooms – in a fun and engaging way — to talk with students in about academics, careers and the future. Some volunteers read books to pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Some teach practical, personal skills to high school students such as managing a checking account and using credit cards wisely. Others involve entire middle school classes in projects like a mock election. Some give demonstrations using musical instruments or scientific equipment to 5th graders.
Warfighters’ Corner highlights training’s impact By Dolly Rairigh Glass
As they marvel at the training and simulation technology breakthroughs on display on the show floor, attendees at the upcoming Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida, will also have an opportunity to hear warfighters’ real stories about the impact of training. Each day of the Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2015, gathering will include “Warfighters’ Corner: From the Tip of the Spear,” a widely attended annual event that features recently deployed panel members from each military service.

Register for Virtual World Sandbox PlugFest at I/ITSEC By Leslie Spotswood, ADL Initiative
It’s time to register for the Virtual World (VW) Sandbox PlugFest Activity on Dec. 2! The VW Sandbox is a free, open source game development tool that enables users to collaboratively author and deploy 2D/3D simulations and games via any internet connection—with absolutely no software installation required. It is similar to Google Docs; multiple users are able to access the simulation through a web address, chat with each other while in the simulation, and make changes to content at the same time.
Celebrating 10 years of SGS&C: Game quality keeps improving By Dolly Rairigh Glass
Just over one year ago, the 2014 Serious Games Showcase & Challenge was coming to a close and another successful year was being celebrated. Across the board, 2014 was a year for continued improvement: game quality; sponsorships; Students’ Choice; and the shift of the special emphasis award. “One of the great indicators for our team was to see the growth in the quality of the games submitted by student and government developers, and how the quality of those games now equaled the games produced by industry,” said Kent Gritton, SGS&C co-founder.
