Major milestone reached with new UCF Partnership 4 building For more than three years, National Center for Simulation and the Orlando Economic Development Commission have co-chaired the Metro Orlando Defense Task Force (MODTF) with a mission to mitigate the risk of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) on NSA Orlando, and its Team Orlando tenant organizations. The risk is due to base overcrowding and reliance on 200,000 square feet of leased office space at an annual cost of $5.4 million. In the current budget environment, reliance on high cost leased space is a serious vulnerability with or without Congressional approval for another round of BRAC.

Cyber Day gives participants opportunities to share capabilites The first Team Orlando Cyber Day, in partnership with National Center for Simulation, took place on March 10, and showcased nine companies/organizations, as well as the Florida Center for Cybersecurity at the University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida Modeling and Simulation Graduate program. Cyber Day was an industry capability event centered around cyber but in particular, cyber in the Live Virtual Constructive training environment.

The theme of this year’s annual event, Global Precision Attack, enables the Joint Force to strike rapidly and persistently with a variety of aircraft and a wide range of munitions, creating precise effects across multiple domains. The Central Florida Marine Corps Foundation (CFMCF) has been holding golf outings and raising money to support veterans since 2007. The funds are raised through golf tournaments, like the one CFMCF is holding on April 8, and an upcoming new event, the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Challenge (MCPFC), which will have its inaugural debut on October 1. As a result of their fundraising efforts and as part of the Foundation’s outreach, through last year, they have provided $74,000 to 61 scholarship recipients!

Navy League efforts support and honor Central Florida’s veterans For many years, the Central Florida Navy League has been raising funds through its Wounded Warrior/Lone Sailor 5K & 10K to support wounded veterans, and the Central Florida military communities.
