Kit List

◆ Wool suitable for needle felting, various colours

◆ Felting needles

◆ Felting mat

◆ Scissors

◆ Wire cutters

◆ A selection of small eyes, or short pins with plastic heads

◆ Glue (to secure the eyes and decorations)

◆ Wire (for chicken feet)

◆ Cotton and long needle (to add whiskers)

◆ Fimo polymer clay (to make any decorations like the glasses and flowers)

1 Start by making a fat sausage shape with the wool (any colour, this is the core so won’t be seen). Stab with a needle until firm, then add more wool around the bottom of the sausage to build up the shape of an egg [1]

2 Once you have the basic egg shape, you can make it bigger by adding wool, or change the colour by covering it with wool in the colour of your choice [2]

3 For the chicken feet, shape the wire as shown [3], then wrap the wool around the wire until covered. This can be secured by brushing the shaped wire with glue for the first layer of wool, then building up with more wool. Gently stab until it is secured.

4 Use pins to plan the eye and nose positions, moving them around until they look right [4].

5 Make the chick's beak, crest and wings using small pieces of wool, stabbing into shape [5].

6 Do the same for the ears, arms and feet of the rabbits and lamb [6]. Decide where they look best then stab the wool until the body parts are attached to the egg shapes.

7 Add noses to the faces using small strands of wool stabbed into place [7]. Glue the eyes into position and glue on any accessories such as glasses and flowers.

8 For any stitched detail such as whiskers, use a very long needle and start at the underside so any knots won’t show [8].

Helping Hand

◆ Any project can take a while to take shape – don’t worry if it doesn’t look right straight away, just keep adding wool and stabbing until you get the desired effect

◆ A needle holder is a great investment – they come in various sizes and can hold multiple needles which makes the project a lot quicker for large areas. For fine detail though it’s best to use a single needle

◆ You can use scraps of any-colour wool for the middle of the egg shapes as it won’t be seen
