PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE DU PRESIDENT

It has been a month since the Jersey Canada Annual General Meeting in Levis, Quebec and the beginning of my ninth year on the Board of Directors. I wanted to express how great it still is to be able to meet up with breeders old and new from across Canada. I’d also like to thank all those who have concluded their terms of service on the various committees and welcome all those who are new. It has been a wave of all things Jersey since the AGM weekend. In the short period since, there have already been multiple committee meetings and the board has met again as well. There are so many passionate people volunteering their time to ensure the breed and organization continue to grow and evolve with the trends and changes in the Canadian dairy industry. I had the opportunity to address Holstein Canada at their Convention in Montreal, QC, shortly following our own meeting. They are facing many of the same challenges we are due to the economy. Even though we are fresh off one AGM we are already assembling an enthusiastic team to start planning the AGM meeting next year in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.

The spring shows have wrapped up, the April bull proofs have been released and it’s great to see all the publicity Canadian genetics is getting across social media. Every time I open my phone, I see Canada’s little brown cows. Our breeders have so much to offer no matter what you’re looking for or which direction you’d like to move your herd in.

With haying season just around the corner and the end of the school year fast approaching I’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer season.

Il y a à peine un mois c’était l’assemblée générale annuelle de Jersey Canada à Lévis, Québec et le début de ma 9e année au conseil d’administration. J’aimerais exprimer combien j’aime pouvoir encore rencontrer les éleveurs, anciens et nouveaux, de partout au Canada. J’aimerais aussi remercier tous ceux qui ont terminé leur mandat au sein des différents comités et souhaiter la bienvenue aux nouveaux membres. Ce fut une vague de toutes choses Jerseys depuis la fin de semaine de l’AGA. Au cours de cette courte période, il y a déjà eu plusieurs réunions de comité et le conseil s’est aussi réuni. Il y a plusieurs personnes passionnées qui donnent de leur temps pour s’assurer que la race et l’organisation continuent de grandir et d’évoluer avec les tendances et les changements dans l’industrie laitière canadienne. J’ai eu la chance de m’adresser à Holstein Canada lors de leur convention à Montréal, QC peu de temps après notre réunion. Ils font face à plusieurs des mêmes défis à cause de l’économie. Même si nous venons tout juste de terminer une AGA, nous avons déjà réuni une équipe enthousiaste pour planifier l’AGA de l’an prochain dans les cantons de l’est au Québec.

Les expositions de printemps sont terminées, les épreuves de taureaux d’avril ont été publiées et c’est bien de voir toute la publicité que la génétique canadienne reçoit grâce aux médias sociaux. Chaque fois que je regarde mon téléphone, je vois de petites vaches brunes canadiennes. Nos éleveurs ont tant à offrir peu importe ce que vous recherchez et dans quelle direction s’en va votre troupeau.

Avec la saison des foins qui est à nos portes et la fin des classes qui approche à grands pas, j’aimerais souhaiter à tous un bon été en sécurité.
