Marie-Christine and Olivier started milk production in September 2017 thanks to the PLQ’s start-up program. Starting with a blank page, they visited and researched many different farms before settling on a free-stall, composted litter operation. They acquired animals for their herd throughout Quebec, Ontario and the U.S., with their objective being to have animals with deep pedigrees and potential for high production. "(The cow) must not just be beautiful, but it must put milk in the tank to pay the bills" says Olivier. Their herd currently sits at 17EX, 30VG and 2GP, only five years into their operation.

They have also shown success on the show circuit with some of their first purchases. Elegance Irwin Paparazzi won 1st Senior Calf at the Quebec Spring Show in 2015. She was also their first milk cow, then housed at a friend’s facility, and is still present in their herd today with a classification of EX 93 5E 2*.

Lookout Forever Impressed, owned with Anthony Bilodeau, was the Junior Champion at Expo Lotbinière, Reserve Tout-Quebec and Nominated All Canadian as a Junior Yearling in 2016, and was the Honourable Mention Tout-Quebec as a Junior 2 Year Old in 2017. Many of her offspring were sold and went on to be successful for their new owners as well.

Olivier’s passion for the Jersey breed started during an internship in Ontario with the McMillan family (Kingsway). During this time, he was able to meet many Ontario Jersey breeders, and quickly discovered the many benefits of Jerseys. He is a skilled marketer and was a communications officer for Jersey Quebec. He’s organized two Revolution sales and has been known to mentor young individuals coming into the dairy scene or transitioning to Jerseys.

Olivier and Marie-Christine are an exceptional young entrepreneurial duo. They are brilliant, bold and enterprising in the development of their business. They take nothing for granted and work hard to meet their goals.

Marie-Christine Fortin et Olivier Marquis ont débuté la production laitière en septembre 2017 grâce au programme de démarrage de la FPLQ. Comme ils partaient à zéro, ils ont visité beaucoup de fermes différentes et fait beaucoup de recherches avant de s’arrêter sur une installation comprenant une stabulation libre sur litière compostée. Ils ont acquis des animaux pour leur troupeau au Québec, en Ontario et aux É.-U et leur objectif était d’avoir des animaux de bonnes généalogies et avec un potentiel pour une grande production. « il (la vache) ne faut pas juste qu’elle soit belle, mais il faut qu’elle mette du lait dans la canisse pour payer les factures ». Leur troupeau est composé de 17EX, 30TB, 2BP, seulement 5 ans après l’établissement de leur entreprise.

Ils ont également démontré du succès sur le circuit des expositions avec certains de leurs premiers achats. Elegance Irwin Paparazzi a gagné la 1e place genisse Senior à l’exposition de printemps de Québec en 2015. Ella fut aussi leur première vache en lactation, alors logée chez des amis, et est toujours présente dans leur troupeau avec une classification de EX 93 5E 2*.

Lookout Forever Impressed,co-propriété conjointement avec Anthony Bilodeau, fut Championne Junior à l’Expo Lotbinière, Réserve Tout-Québec et en nomination Tout Canadien comme genisse Junior en 2016 et fut Mention Honorable Tout Québec comme 2 Ans Junior en 2017. Plusieurs descendants furent vendus et ont connus du succès avec leurs nouveaux propriétaires également.

La passion d’Olivier pour la race Jersey est née lors d’un stage en Ontario avec la famille McMillan (Kingsway). Pendant son séjour, il a pu rencontrer plusieurs éleveurs de Jerseys et a vite découvert les multiples avantages des Jerseys. Olivier a agi comme mentor auprès de jeunes qui arrivent dans le domaine laitier ou qui font la transition vers des Jerseys.

Olivier et Marie-Christine forment un duo exceptionnel de jeunes entrepreneurs. Ils sont brillants, fonceurs et entreprenants dans le développement de leur entreprise. Ils ne prennent rien pour acquis et travaillent fort pour atteindre leurs buts.
