PLAYGROUND LOVE ALLISON TOVEY

I want all my friends to be in one place, it’s always been one of my sincerest wishes. I kind of imagine Heaven feeling like a big friendiversary. So when I’m in the position of caring about my friends from afar, I try to keep their faces and adventures in the front of my mind. I’ve been inspired by so many people face-toface and also by the brilliant women I’ve read about. Sometimes I feel like my fave celebrated artists are my friends too. Frida Kahlo and I never shared paintbrushes but I learned so much from her life story that I sometimes feel like we are student and teacher. Judy Blume and I never exchanged friendship bracelets but when I first read “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” I suddenly had a friend who finally talked about what my playground companions and I were too embarrassed to. I’ve been changed by the art and lives of these women. They’re my good luck charms. Throughout the week, I keep their words as close to me as I would the words of a dear friend:

DAYS OF THE WEEK BY MIKAELA MONDAY

"Being the Queen is not all about singing, and being a diva is not all about singing. It has much to do with your service to people." - Aretha Franklin

"I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights that I am away from you. - Frida Kahlo

“Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world. Just start thinking peace, and the message will spread quicker than you think. - Yoko Ono

“We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, you can have ambition, but not too much. . . - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

“When one is pretending, the entire body revolts.” - Anaïs Nin

“Until you’re ready to look foolish, you’ll never have the possibility of being great.” - Cher

“It’s not just the books under fire that worry me. It is the books that will never be written.” - Judy Blume

Art lasts forever! When you get to missing your homegirls, try sending each other short stories / dream journal entries / watercolors / poems / little vids of yourselves playing your new ukeleles. Art is such an intimate human experience and your cell phone can record and send it like a magic wand. And your favorite famous-artistgirl-boss friends? Their power never runs out.

She Was Her Paradise By Kaitlyn Tiffany Coffee shop daydreams, sunshine pouring through the window of her dark bedroom, mourning in the morning, meditating in the afternoon. Divine escape in the wilderness. Drenched in the perfect loveliness of her skin, hair, and rapture. Her eyes show signs of a past that she chooses to forget, a family that never understood, and a persona she no longer pretends. She is in love with a girl, a woman, a masterpiece, a force of nature. They go to the seaside, with a bag full of old poets and slightly warm watermelon slices. They walk amongst the waves and forget about the worries of mundane life. Their soft hands, carefully painted different shades of crimson, intertwine like a beautiful symphony. One gently kisses the other and their love becomes a dance, both synchronized and spontaneous. The taller one takes out her ukulele, she plays their song as she hums the words that describe their emotions, their almost immortal connection. The one with curly hair sits on the other’s lap, legs stretched outside the hammock that they call home. It’s not the woven seat that is their home, it is simply their embrace that gives them comfort and sweet relief, no matter where they choose to go. Their parents don’t have a clue, except for the night they stole mamma’s car to drive to Rehoboth. They smile like children as they do something wild on their last night before college. The world is trying to tear them apart and the future is scary, but they have tonight, this one moment to be absolutely free. They make it to the shore just before sunrise. Along the way, they whisper their summer romance like storytellers, not forgetting a single detail from the day they met at the local bookstore to their Bonnie and Clyde like ending. The light reflects on the ocean horizon and it hits their tear stained faces. They hold each other’s hands like they have before, but this time their touch makes a firework. They press their hands on each other’s chest - feeling the familiar heartbeat. The taller musician twirls her lover’s curly hair just before she kisses her with all the passion in her body. They fall asleep in each other arms till the day becomes too bright. In the end, she was her paradise.

The End by Jessica Nauta The record skipped The End of Abbey Road again. I have forgotten what it should sound like and how I ever fell asleep before you. I can't help but feel as if I am missing something when I climb out of bed each morning to make a coffee that evidently will not make itself. I go, and I imagine you and Zoe, maybe, in a small cafe the length of In a Station of the Metro. I wont bother the rest. Your hands take pages to tell. And think about all the hours that goddamn play was rehearsed! Two lines in, my coffee is cold, and in the end, Montreal is a great place to be miserable. I've only now looked up and realized it's raining. I love my city right after it rains, just not yours. Your sun is beautiful. You'd think now maybe I'd finally get some sleep because at least I know you have someone sleeping next to you. I can't imagine a sun that could singularly warm a double bed, or a creamer, for that matter, that doesn't curdle in coffee.

ROYAL INTEGRITY

Visionless. Sitting back-seat in the carriage of her own existence Unseeing to her magnificence. Her vision is like a cul-de sac to the fact that her very existence impacts mine on a regular basis. . Her bovine eyes do not realizethat the peace in her smile that could simmer boiling chaos That the sun may rise and set. But it's her presence that makes my day. She knows not how beautiful she is. And it may seem that she needs reassurance, But, she is the spark. The burning ember in the forest; In the forest of my dreams. Oh how, I will never extinguish it. Let it burn me alive! Just so it can see it’s intensity.

Royal Integrity is an upcoming organisation that has an ultimate vision of promoting self-love, selfacceptance and self-respect in a world that encourages self-hate and disrespect. We achieve this in the form of art which means that our team consists of young multi-national writers and photographers from the ages of 17-25. It is primarily based in Ireland but stretches out to the middle east and Namibia. Royal Integrity was founded by a young writer Christie Kandiwa also known as Kayssie. She has been published in numerous magazines and is a part-time editor. After years of watching her friends and family suffer and settle for less , she came to a conclusion that most situations that lead to depression often are rooted in some form of negative attitude towards oneself, to the point where the victim is convinced they do not deserve any better. Hence, they stop trying to reach for "better". She was decided to assemble a team of artists (which continues to grow to date) that will continue to be a source of hope and love for those that feel undeserving. Royal Integrity is willing to challenge and silence the voice of society telling us we are unworthy to be heard because we weren't born a certain way. Our personal challenge is to shift your perspective, even if it's just for a second. We want you to see yourself as who you truly are, Royalty, Queens and Kings of this generation, ready to conquer and be heard. You'll see us share some of the most intimate pieces we've ever produced (which is quite challenging in itself), revealing the darkest thoughts that drown us daily, and how we struggle to swim until our lips break the surface of the water, just to scream, "You are Royalty! And you will overcome" for a split second.

LE TEMPS JULY July has been a month of maximum beauty and love. The sun shined onto my skin and through the windows of my home in an indescribable fashion. The air was heavy as the world became still. My heart pounded with the buzz of the lady bugs and the sunflowers swayed with my breath. The trees seemed to be singing and dancing as they moved with the summer breeze. Life has simply been good.

CATCHING HOURS ISSY MEDWORTH

a newcomer’s adulting by kait I’m probably not the best person to ask for advice on this subject, being that I have only had one job in my life (quit after six awful months), but I do have some words of wisdom that may help some of you in this exciting and awkward transition into adulthood… <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 “its ok to take baby steps, you don’t have to do everything right, and there is no rulebook that you have to follow” - @ me <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 as a 17 year old who has successfully procrastinated everything related to growing up, I totally understand the fear and anxiety that comes from these scary new responsibilities. Although I’m here to tell you that you shouldn’t hold yourself back from being your best self. you may not be a kid anymore, but that doesn’t mean that you cant still have fun and be light hearted. life really isn’t all that serious, even though it may seem like that right now. I encourage all of you to stay positive during these hard and confusing times. Don’t stress yourself out too much about the small stuff, keep in touch with your friends so you can bond over the fact that you are all going through the same things, and make sure that your mental health is a top priority.

guide to lyn tiffany I wish you all the best in your endeavors, whether that be starting high school, starting senior year, or going to college, always remember that you are only human and you aren’t going to be perfect...which is completely fine. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 “everything will fall into place, your life will be so gr8” - @ me <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
