CHASING FIREFLIES SOME DATES CANCELED Fireflies are one of the most exciting parts of summer. Learn alongside your child about these fascinating creatures, also known as lightning bugs, and how they create their glow. You’ll play firefly tag, create your own firefly and read The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle.

YOUTH CANCELED CREEK STOMPING EXPLORERS NEW! Let’s go creek stomping! Wildlife around the creek is amazing. Kids will peer into the lives of the many creatures that call the creek home. Kids will discover the diverse plants and animals that live in and around the water’s edge as they play “Water Bingo.” Toads, salamanders, crayfish and minnows may be lurking. Had your first taste of fishing and want to learn more? This course will help you learn advanced techniques in casting, knot tying, using slip bobbers, map reading and how various fish relate to different environments. CANCELED Have you been looking for a new outdoor activity to do as a family? This free introductory workshop is designed specifically for families to learn how to fish together! You’ll learn a little fish biology, gain some basic fishing skills, and finally, apply what you’ve learned along the Central Park Lagoon. No fishing license required as the day of the class is a Free Fishing Day! All fishing supplies are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a chair. You will observe the nighttime songs of birds, movement of wildlife and maybe even hear an owl call on this short walk through the woods! POLLINATOR BIOBLITZ

All sorts of pollinators call Central Park home! Our natural resources staff will teach you about local pollinators and the important native species they need to survive. The evening will start with an educational session on iNaturalist and native plants. Then volunteers will be free to roam Central Park and collect data on their own. Celebrate National Trails Day by helping restore the Woodland Gardens trail in Central Park! Volunteers will help spread new mulch to restore and maintain the surface of the trail. National Trails Day events are held annually to raise awareness of trail issues and the benefits trails provide, as well as to encourage people to discover their local trails and instill excitement for the outdoors.

Did you know we need insects to survive? Our food source depends on pollinators. Many of our native pollinators are on the decline. We’ll discover which pollinators live in Central Park and how we can help increase and attract them so we can enjoy our favorite foods!

policies + procedures SUMMER CAMP SERIES Transfer Policy

A transfer from one day camp to another day camp is contingent upon the availability of spots within the desired camp. If the camp is at maximum capacity, a transfer will be not allowed. Transfers will not be permitted once the camp week has concluded.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

• The department will issue a full refund if the department cancels a camp. • Cancellations for a camp week must be requested a minimum of 2 weeks from the respective camp week start date to receive a 100% refund, less a $10 service charge for cancellation per camp week, per camper. • All refunds are subject to the State Board of Accounts claim procedure and may take three to four weeks.

Partial Payment Plan

Parent/guardian may pay-in-full for enrollment(s) at the time of initial registration, or a payment plan may be selected. Please visit carmelclayparks.com for more information.

Scholarship Applications Available

• Criteria based upon Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines • Scholarship application can be found at carmelclayparks. com/summercampseries • Deadline is April 1, 2020 • Incomplete applications will not be considered

Waitlist Policy

There is no fee to be placed on the waitlist. If a spot becomes available in the desired camp, the camper’s parent/guardian that is prioritized at the top of waitlist will be notified via e-mail. The parent/guardian will have 24 hours from the time of the notification e-mail to make payment in full for the desired camp. If payment has not been received in full, the next camper’s parent/guardian will be notified.

Field Trips

All field trips are weather permitting.

RECREATION PROGRAMS PROGRAM REFUND POLICY (excludes ESE)

If a class is cancelled by Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation, a full refund or a make-up class will be given. For any other reason, a Refund Request may be filled out and submitted fourteen days prior to the program start date. All refunds are subject to the approval of the Monon Community Center Director and are subject to State Board of Accounts claim procedures. If approval is granted, a full refund (less a $10 service charge) will be given. Refunds are issued by check and may take up to 3-4 weeks to process.

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation routinely takes photos and videos of participants for promotional purposes. Be aware that by participating, you are granting the department the right to use and publish your or your minor child’s image, and that no monetary remuneration will be given.
