Bodega Tuesday 1 February 7.30pm

John Shuttleworth in ‘A Man with No More Rolls’ Thursday 27 January 7.30pm £12.00 / £10.00

Sheffield’s finest synthesizer player and twaddle talker decides it’s time to instruct the Nation in moral matters. Well, he would have done had his next-door neighbour and agent, Ken Worthington, not mistyped the show’s title, turning ‘morals’ into ‘more rolls’. John’s reaction to this mishap is philosophical. At least now his new show can consider, not just the Nation’s moral decline, but the vast range of exotic breads appearing in the high street. Paninis, ciabattas, pittas, plus the peshwari naan which John recently enjoyed a bite of – ‘It absolutely blew me away’ - inspiring his exciting new ballad ‘How’s your Nan?’

Bodega formed in 2005 and won the coveted title of ‘BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Musicians of the Year’ under a year later. Since then, this intensely talented group have been acclaimed across the world as one of Scotland’s most dynamic young groups. Voted ‘Best Scottish Folk Band of the Year’ at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards in 2009, all five members hail from different regions of Scotland, making their sound culturally eclectic, hugely dynamic and incredibly exciting. “This is the most exciting band to come out of Scotland since Capercaillie” Sing Out Magazine – USA

The Temperance Seven

The Gospel of Matthew

Saturday 5 February 7.30pm

George Dillon Wednesday 9 February 7.30pm

Who could have predicted that a band, which hit the top of the charts in 1961, would still be a playing to packed audiences in 2011? Today’s incarnation of The Temperance Seven has the same sound, deadpan tomfoolery and sartorial elegance of the original band with an even greater repertoire including jazz classics, original compositions and even the odd novelty number. With a string of chart successes including ‘You’re Driving Me Crazy’, number one hit ‘Home in Pasadena’, ‘The Charleston’, ‘Hard Hearted Hannah’ and ‘The Black Bottom’, The Temperance Seven play what they like, how they like with an enjoyment that is infectious.

£14.00 / £12.00

Award-winning actor George Dillon presents an E SAV unforgettable vision of Jesus in his intense performance of ‘The Gospel of Matthew’. Created in the aftermath of 9/11, Dillon’s powerful delivery of his own translation portrays Jesus not as a gentle lamb but as a contemporary raging fighter for God. The Gospel of Matthew - considered to be one of the earliest accounts of the life and teachings of Jesus - was compiled soon after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. With religious and racial conflict spreading from the Middle East, Matthew’s Gospel is as relevant today as when it was written.

Grantham’s most famous son Isaac Newton – farm-boy genius, heretic, alchemist and scientist - comes home in this illuminating play about a devout, difficult, obsessive man who sought and found God in the universal laws of light and motion. Isaac Newton remains a great influence in the scientific and technological world we live in today but his nature remains a mystery to many. ‘Let Newton Be!’ focuses on the clash of scientific discovery with religious fanaticism and is Newton in all his humanity – comical, driven, vulnerable, unique – the most powerful man in British science.

Red Priest is a unique early music group, founded in 1997, and named after the flamehaired priest, Antonio Vivaldi, described by critics as outrageous yet compulsive. Piers Adam (recorder), Julia Bishop (violin), Angela East (cello) and Howard Bleach (harpsichord) are extremely talented solo artists in their own right. Together they will be presenting the programme ‘Carnival of the Seasons’ featuring, amongst others, music by Vivaldi, Purcell and Corelli.

After Miss Julie London Classic Theatre Tuesday 5 April 7.30pm

Celebrations for the Labour Party’s landslide election victory are in full swing. The lady of the house, Miss Julie, descends into the servants’ kitchen to seek out John, her father’s chauffeur. As the night draws in and flirtation turns to passion, the two lovers embark on a consuming and deadly dance of desire. Sex, class and ambition battle for centre stage as Patrick Marber relocates Strindberg’s brutal, sensual love story to post-war England.

The Sound of Music

Ibsen’s great theme is how we are all dominated by our past and in this play, he famously explores how the sins of the fathers can directly dominate the present. The uproar against this play in its time shows just how accurately Ibsen had struck home. Come and enjoy a terrific play about the terrible danger of living with lies.

Young local performers from Star Academy stage school present the story of Maria, a sweet young postulant whose love of freedom makes it obvious to her superiors that she is not suited for religious life. Instead, they send her off to be the governess to Captain von Trapp’s seven troublesome children. However, unlike previous governesses, Maria becomes friends with them due to their mutual love of music. Soon, even the strict Captain begins to admire her…

Play blues rhythms, cool country wails, pitch bend all the way down and jam along with new rockin’ solos – whether you’re a complete beginner or advanced, this session will help improve your playing and get the best out of this deceptively humble instrument. Steve will introduce more pop/rock, folk and blues material and cover basic and intermediate techniques for the harmonica. Harmonicas (diatonic) in C are available on the day for £8.00.

‘Inside’ is a fiercely evocative, highly charged piece of physical dance theatre featuring five outstanding male dancers exploring violence, incarceration, solitude and hope inside prison walls. Awardwinning Brazilian-born choreographer Jean Abreu’s explosive new work touches a nerve that may unsettle many people and communities, giving an insight into physical and mental imprisonment and raising issues particularly relevant to young people in a contemporary society. Starring Billie Jo Spears, Philomena Begley and Lena Martell Saturday 21 May 7.30pm

Grantham Dramatic Society Wednesday 25 to Saturday 28 May 7.30pm

Image Musical Theatre Tuesday 31 May 2.30pm

It’s the summer of 1959 at Maplin’s and the prospect of a new holiday camp in the Bahamas has the staff in a spin! Meanwhile camp cleaner Peggy dreams of a new life as a Yellowcoat and comedian Ted Bovis needs sidekick Spike’s help to raise the cash his wife – and her baliff – are demanding. The cosy chalets, Hawaiian ballroom and Radio Maplin help set the scene with a blend of classic humour, nostalgia and a dash of romance.

Said by the author to be the best adaptation of his novel, this wonderful production will be another moving and stimulating experience of high quality musical theatre for both children and adults. Clive King’s wonderful story of Barney and his Neolithic friend Stig has been a firm favourite with children and adults since it was first published in the early sixties. With beautiful costumes, an ingenious set and wonderful music from Robert Hyman this production will continue Image Musical Theatre’s tradition of providing the very best touring productions.

Canada’s Ian Robb, Ann Downey and Shelley Posen with their guest musician, James Stephens, on fiddle and mandolin play songs from their new album, ‘For Honour And For Gain’. Songs from the English tradition as well as Appalachian classics and self-penned numbers cover the broad spectrum that is the international folk scene. With glorious harmonies, superb musicianship and a great programme – if you like folk music, you’ll love this!
