The Wonderful World of Wallpaper
WRITTEN BY DENA DAW
HEAR ME OUT — Top Gun is the highest grossing movie of the year, mullets have made a comeback, Kate Bush is at the top of the charts, and wallpaper is back in style. It’s 1986 all over again, and we’re not mad about it (except for the mullet)! Don’t worry, this ain’t your mama’s wallpaper! When paired with this year’s trending colors, wallpaper can add chic visual interest to any room. There are designs for every taste, from traditional florals and tropical patterns to animal motifs and geometric prints. “Wallpaper is a key trend for 2022,” said Lauren Burns, interior designer and owner of Lauren Burns Interiors. “I think one reason is that there are now so many options and styles to choose from, much like fabric always has given us. Wallpaper no longer only has printed paper options. There are now embellished corks, grasscloths with designs, and metallic wallpapers, to name a few. I also think that since the emergence of removable wallpaper options, it has driven homeowners to explore this design element.” Although the choice and use of wallpaper is completely up to the homeowner, selections can be guided by trending paint palettes that bring peace and tranquility to the home. “I am a huge fan of any type of wallcoverings as an interior designer because it also allows me to create spaces that add a layer of texture or a bold ‘wow’ statement for clients,” said Burns. “A well-designed space should not only feel collected, but most importantly to represent those who live there and how they want to feel when they are at home.” laurenburnsinteriors.com
