ello dear Reader, With summer behind us, let's kick off this autumn 2020 full of novelty and wonders! Let's start by hinting at this season's Design Trends that you would find at the beginning of this issue. Pastel, bright, deep and classic colours - a more unusual selection than what is expected every year. This rich and slightly extravagant palette of colours serves to encourage our creativity and imagination, reflecting our tastes on the dĂŠcor. Any object that we choose for a room must not only have its functional purpose but to be a work of art that gives us emotions and pleasure. But the "Icing on the cake" of this edition is a sophisticated list of Restaurants & Bars with the Best Coloured Interiors in the world. So they we are not talking about the classic restaurants where you can enjoy good dishes but about the places where the interiors tell us stories through colours, furniture and details. Here, the Imagination rules our minds! Looking at this list we understand better how much colour is needed in life, especially if we talk about the environments that surround us. Finally, a series of Interior projects: from the Spanish modern penthouse to the eclectic home near Kiev to the functional apartment in Mumbai. Enjoy this edition and experience Autumn in colour with me and G&G _ Magazine!

In the frenzy of the world, we seek the peace and quiet necessary to pick the essences and fix their spontaneous mastery in time. In ancient times the art of herbaria was synonymous of prayer in monasteries; approaching the knowledge of botanic, classifying herbs in order to understand their existence and be amazed by their beauty, this was the purpose to pursue. With the same ambition, we have been carrying on our project for twenty years, passing on an ancient knowledge. The "handmade" has always been the hallmark of our work. Every gesture requires a combination of strength and elegance to achieve completion. Our greatest hope: to let grace and harmony flourish.

LATEST NEWS Casa dos Oleiros Ivo Tavares Studio photographed the new project realised by Paulo Martins in the old part of Castelo Branco, Portugal. This project was aimed at taking on the contours of an archetype, in an attempt to establish a trend in the urban occupancy of the city: urban revitalisation of the historic centre and its occupancy by younger age groups, making this part of the city more dynamic once more. In line with this intention, the project consisted of maintaining the original appearance of the house on the outside, while inside, the spaces were readapted to current standards of comfort and living, marked by contemporary minimalism. www.ivotavares.net

NYC-based architecture office Worrell Yeung has designed the renovation of the front and back gardens of a brownstone in a Historic Landmark District in Brooklyn Heights, NY. In keeping with their overarching architecture and design practice, several discrete but similar cubic volumes were designed to organize space within the gardens, containing plantings and a spa in the back, and waste/recycling protection in the front. www.worrellyeung.com Photography by Alan Tansey
“This is consistent with a lot of the interior architecture work we do, in which we deploy ‘objects’ within a space. We treated these objects like vitrines, which helped us to organize the cubic hot tub with the plantings, for example.” - Jejon Yeung, co-founder of Worrell Yeung

Built to last
Set on the Dapeng Peninsula, part of the Daya Bay in Nan’ao, Shenzhen, on a narrow strip of land between Daya Bay and the Yashan mountain range, Longcheer Yacht Club, designed by SAOTA was envisioned not just as a new flagship yacht club and hotel, but also as a catalyst to promote yachting culture and encourage public interest in marine sport. The façade of the building was inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns, the concept of the light box multiplied and repeated to create a modular pattern emphasising lightness and transparency, which is particularly effective when seen from the bay at night. An undulating copper-coloured ribbon-like detail feature unifies the façade, delineating the circulation cores and opening up views of the yacht basin. A series of four rooftop pavilions serve as dedicated entertainment, meeting and reception areas. These lightweight, floating pavilions feature slim, folded, faceted roof shapes, echoing the angularity of the “ribbon” feature on the building’s facade. The large overhangs not only create protected outdoor spaces, but together with the clear expression of their columns involve a contemporary interpretation of some of the defining aspects of traditional Chinese architecture, which also informed the strong axial elements and clear hierarchy of the design. PLAYFUL Mood
Imagine a life without colors... Impossible! Colours give us energy and put us in a good mood, they help us face the days with positivity and tenacity. We have reserved a sophisticated selection of Restaurants & Bars with the Best Coloured Interiors: from deep green to pastel pink to transgressive orange and so on.
1. MISU by FADD Studio / Bangalore MISU is the contemporary and edgy interpretation of a restaurant inside a church with classical and colonial western elements meeting fine and minimal Japanese shapes in a beautiful and mesmerising confluence of glamour and grunge. Indirect lighting softly illuminates the mesh arches and hand painted walls to create an intimate atmosphere at night. Address: 4th Floor Halcyon Complex, St Marks Rd, 560025 - Bangalore, India
2. Burrito Loco by Formafatal / Prague The design of the interior is inspired by the theme of Mexican cuisine and its colors. The essential element is the cactus symbol, which is dominant in the interior and stylized in different forms. Other features include also sombreros and garlands. The hanging lights are made of typical Mexican hats. The garlands could not be missing at any Mexican party, so they are hanging on the trees nearby each tin stand with refreshment. Address: Prague, Czech Republic
3. Baiben by Ilmiodesign / Palma de Mallorca Everything in Baiben, such as its colours and its forms, evokes the beaches of Mallorca, with their 44 | G&G _ Magazine

Address: Carrer d'Antoni Maria Alcover, 1, 07181 - Palma de Mallorca, Illes Balears, Spain
4. Anar by H2R Design / Dubai This Persian restaurant evokes the traditional spirit adding modern twists and feast-worthy tones. With that as a goal, the designers curated interiors that brought icy lapis lazuli together with igneous burgundies, timbers, metallics and lighting to create a newly refined version of Anar. Address: Al Sufouh Rd, Jumeirah - Dubai, UAE
5. OssO by Gustavo Penna / Nova Lima The fire in the color of the walls and ceiling and the amber-tinged lights bring the customers a feeling of coziness. 8. Authoral by BLOCO Architects / Brasília The goal is to reinforce the idea that the space of the restaurant is the continuity of the urban space. In the tables’ halls the designers maximised the visual connection with the outer space by creating retractable skylights. This allows to the hall turn into an open terrace at night during the city’s long dry spell. To give the color for the ambiance, three artists intervened on the inner walls with its modern designs. 9. Kanto by Fabio Gianoli / Colico Inspired by the Japanese culture and style, Fabio Gianoli designed the interiors by a strong character but at the same time with important details. The restaurant is highlighted by a scenic perimeter cage in iron tubes to which were added bright shelves with resting of the sagging green plants and various objects in oriental style, all amplified by the mirror coatings of the walls that give even more depth and breadth. Address: Via Nazionale, 130, 23823 - Colico, Italy
6. Clerkenwell Grind by Biasol / London The designers opted for a light and elegant furniture – marble-topped tables with slender chairs upholstered in dusky pink velvet and a plush banquette in a navy blue velvet that wraps around the walls. Slender brass lamps and beautifully worn timber floors nod to the building’s history while, overhead, angled oval mirrors create unexpected connections between groups of diners. Address: 2-4 Old St, EC1V 9AA - London, UK
7. Surround by H2R Design / Riyadh The interiors are vibrant and eye-catching, filled quirky design features which displays the character of the space. This can be seen with brave colours like pink in the furniture that form 46 | G&G _ Magazine
10. Ramona by Studio Modijefsky/ Amsterdam The interior references the tradition of classic bars with plenty of dark wood, stained glass, protective wall panelling and mirror finishes; all reinvented with a much younger attitude. This unusual combination results in a bohemian space, where bold details and unexpectedly layered materials create an eccentric vibe in its own right. For example, the ceiling is graphically divided, using the building’s structure as guidelines, into a grid of acoustic panels framed by linear lightboxes. The latter emit a diffused warm light, shining through old fashioned yellow figure glass, creating an inviting and cosy atmosphere. Address: Sint Jansstraat 33 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

11. Secret Room by Studio Paolo Ferrari / Dubai Hidden through an underground passage of the Five Palm Jumeirah hotel, the Secret Room is a destination that embodies the unexpected. Its complex design threads together aesthetic elements of both past and future, creating a surreal space that feels at once exuberant, artistic and unconventional. Address: No. 1 Palm Jumeirah - Dubai, UAE
12. Chin Chin by JK Lab Architects / Zaporizhia The highlight of the project was the facade arches that have been extended with arched mirrors above the bar. The floor is covered by thousands of pieces of broken black tiles, which were laid out like a mosaic. The Blueberry Cocktail color was chosen as the shade of the walls to give the feeling of layers of a cocktail. Address: Shevchenka Blvd 24 - Zaporizhia, Ukraine
13. Atlantic Seaboard Restaurant by OKHA Studio / Cape Town This contemporary fusion restaurant draws 16
inspiration from the bold and graphic language of Turkish and Moorish design as well as a taught Eurocentric classicism. The monochromatic, graphic geometry of the Moroccan tiles is echoed in the over-sized herringbone parquet flooring. Diagonal slats of differing stains create large abstract gestures across the floor area. The bold use of colour showcases both the black and white graphics and the bespoke furniture custom designed for the restaurant. Address: 157 Victoria Wharf - Cape Town, South Africa
14. Bonnie by Studio Modijefsky / Amsterdam Wooden panelling with linear strokes covers the walls, interrupted by mirror panels, orange tiles and hexagonal wall lights, which beautifully blend in and dictate the shape of the hand-crafted wainscoting border. The floor is covered with the square patterned tiles in muted hues of yellow, green, white, black, forming a traditional pattern. Address: Amstelveenseweg 226HS, 1076 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
15. Noi by Ilmiodesign / Madrid The key inspiration when developing the project was 'Italianness': from the use of colours and materials to the iconography. The colour palette harmoniously fuses terracotta tones, reds and greens, typical of the country and its capital, Rome. Meanwhile, the materials used were ceramic, terrazzo and concrete lattices, reflecting Italian architecture of the 70s. Address: Calle de Recoletos 6, 28001 - Madrid, Spain
16. Amedeo Restaurant by MODO / Livorno The protagonist of this restaurant is the large suspension lamp with its strong and vibrant colors, inserted in an environment with petrol green walls that highlight its uniqueness. Around the lamp develops the counter area, enhanced by the 3D tiles from Theia and by Moooi’s wallpaper with illustration subject of the Earth’s extinct animals. All the tables and benches have been made using research materials with a strong aesthetic character such as the Marmoreal terrazzo slabs used for the tops. Address: Via Enrico Mayer 52 - Livorno, Italy

17. The Gallery at sketch by India Mahdavi & David Shrigley / London With benched seating lining the walls and tailored ‘Charlotte’ armchairs, India Mahdavi has soaked the place in an audacious Hollywood pink to modernise the archetype of the brasserie. While, on the request, the flooring realised by Martin Creed has been preserved. The walls are wrapped by a limited-edition selection of 250 ceramic tableware created by illustrator David Shrigley that give a rawer touch to the ambiance.

On the unique features of the room, it was proposed to use colour from the restaurant brand (blue) to create visual contrast and to connect the space. In 2014, noa* won a design competition for expanding the Apfelhotel’s existing structure, which was implemented in several stages. At the beginning, the main building with the restaurant as well as the old barn were dismantled and stripped back for conversion. Behind the original façade of the barn, beneath the guest rooms, there is Apfelhotel’s production of various delicacies from their home-grown apples as well
as other local specialties. Subsequently, the Apfelsauna was completed as the first feature of a spacious wellness and relaxation landscape, which has now been expanded. And finally, in 2020, 18 new suites were completed for guests and carefully designed to fit into the farmyard’s landscape structure. A special emphasis was placed on preserving the characteristic of the farmhouse ensemble and maintaining its scale.
Next to the old barn and the impressive 40-yearold weeping willow, there is the hotel’s main building - the place where everything started. The hotel’s restaurant, which in recent years has gained particular popularity by guests coming from near and far, has expanded to include pavilions that roll out onto the garden. Two areas were created: closed, heated canopies, followed by open canopies with shading options grouped in clusters around a piazza of sorts. The greybrown aluminium of the canopies is designed to harmonise with the warm grey floor tiles while contrasting with the main building’s plaster and wood. The concept of the restaurant’s expansion design centres around the principle of three rooms or “cubes” with differing heights. The inner decor is based on the theme and mood of a modern winter garden: the ceiling offers a unique structure on which plants and lighting can be flexibly hung. The open space is divided by loose old-styled cupboards and floor-toceiling permeable shelves. These shelves function as a transparent room divider, a presentation area for the hotel’s self-made products and as a library stocked with literature on culinary arts. These features create a cosy and inviting living room atmosphere. A natural spring water fountain allows for a refreshing drink. And as a unique highlight - there’s no classic buffet. Instead, guests are invited to tuck into treats displayed on an old planning bench, while in a séparée, a specially designed piece of furniture with fixed and mobile elements provides chilled and warm culinary delights and can also be used for wine or food tastings. Even the tables and chairs in the light-flooded guest-rooms defy the usual stereotype, with a lively mixture of round and angular displays. 56 | G&G _ Magazine
As the central masterpiece of this rural development, noa* designed a wellness area with architecture and greenery that resemble a modern lush garden. A kind of “green heart that, like the apple-shaped sauna, integrates smoothly and fully into the landscape. Indeed, the newly wellness centrepiece has Northside facade that blends into a natural green slope so that the building can hardly be seen. The entrance to the new spa is a curved semi-exposed concrete shell that tucks into the landscape and is designed with a stunning portal made from old wood. Here, in the interface between the surface and subsurface, the word immersion takes on a meaning of its own. The Southside of the
58 | G&G _ Magazine
wellness area, on the other hand, opens up with a glass and steel facade that vanishes underneath a blanket of rooftop greenery. The steel canopy, on which fragrant jasmine flowers will climb, protrudes upwards into the open sky, reminiscent of the holding structures used in modern apple cultivation. The new wellness area is largely hidden from sight: the entire structure is covered with a layer of earth and plants, designed to blend naturally into the bottom of the hill and thus merge into the landscape. The spa boasts a central drinking fountain made from naturalstone and an open fireplace in a spacious lounge area, which leads onto the showers, changing rooms, and beauty and massage rooms.
The indoor-outdoor pool stretches out to the outdoors through the overgrown green façade and is partially framed with Lucerne metamorphic gneiss rock. The framing dissolves where the water edge meets the surrounding open space to visually connect with the landscape in an infinity edge. While the upper floor is an area for adults only - it features a sauna lounge, relaxation room, and a Finnish sauna and steam bath and an adjacent terrace where guests can refresh with an 60 | G&G _ Magazine
outdoor shower. The Finnish sauna is a dream for the senses, with its horizontally curved wooden slats and generous glazed windows, it offers a scenic view of the outdoors and apple fields. The steam bath has a cave-like character, with droplets collected in a clay pot due to the ceiling that inclines towards the room’s centre. The relaxation room offers spectacular view of the valley through the greenery of its facade cladding.
62 | G&G _ Magazine
The new garden suites were constructed on the hotel’s East-facing side: three independent buildings with a total of 18 guest rooms across three floors. The saddle roofs absorb the architectural language of their surroundings and the façade blends tradition with modern aesthetics. The buildings’ outer shell has been deliberately kept dark in an ode to the traditional character of a barn house. Meanwhile, a wooden rhombus pattern - created as a transformation of classic wooden struts - gives the three buildings an unmistakably modern flair. On the island of Santorini, the Greek design practice K-STUDIO projected Canaves Oia Epitome offering a luxury destination with local textures and traditions, and sense of private and rare space. Photography by StĂĽle Eriksen & Christos Drazos 64 | G&G _ Magazine
Perched above the picturesque fishing town of Ammoudi, Canaves Oia Epitome is inspired by traditional Cycladic architecture, combining natural and earthy materials with modern design and style. The first task was to find a way to work with the imposing concrete and brick structure that already existed on the site, without affecting the overall built area. The planned hotel was relatively big for the island, with 24 rooms arranged, along with a restaurant and reception, in 3 linear blocks that together created a Ushaped plan. The massing felt awkwardly big and disconnected to the landscape. So the designers began breaking it up into several smaller parts and then redistributing them around the site, allowing them space to breathe within their surroundings. This approach totally re-set the design of the rooms and the arrangement of the program across the site. The designers moved the entrance from the bottom of the site to the top by swapping it with the dining room. This gave a more generous reception area and gave the dining room and bar a more sociable poolside location. Also they added a second restaurant, accessible to non-residents via a separate entrance, beneath an extensive pergola overlooking the pool terrace and with stunning sunset views.

Each room has its own entrance courtyard featuring an outdoor shower and de-sanding zone and at the other end of the room a stone box shades an external dining room and frames the view to the private pool with large arched openings. Stone ribbon walls wrap the terraces to give privacy, shade and shelter from the wind and direct each unique viewpoint to the sea beyond. These additions along with the split-level arrangement of the 4-bedrooms means that the room becomes more of a villa in experience, very well suited to family holiday life. The palette is dominated by the extensive use of heavy, black local Santorinian stone. The stone-clad structures blend with the rock of the surrounding landscape, rooting the hotel in its environment. This sense of context is elaborated on with the addition of ancient olive trees and large, strategically placed rocks throughout the hotel in a landscaping concept designed to minimize the visible footprint of the original concrete structures. 68 | G&G _ Magazine

In designing the rooms the aim was to increase the perception of space without actually making them bigger. By breaking up the buildings it was created an opportunity for a characteristically Cycladic choreography of enclosed and semienclosed space to provide a comfortably cool
lifestyle suited to the heat of the Greek summer. The designers made a series of local stone-clad additions to each room to extend the sense of space and blend the boundary between indoor and outdoor living. Address: Main Street, 84702 - OĂa, Santorini, Greece

P
ure and elegant in form, with its essential fluid spaces and expression of functional architecture, La Suite Hotel presents itself as a triumphant building, whose design is intuitively inspired by the twentiethcentury current of Italian rationalism, characterised by a lack of decorations to promote an authenticity that concretely integrates into the historical city. The uniqueness of this five-star structure lies in the synesthesia of aspects that pertain, on the one hand, to the social and urban fabric of the context, and on the other hand, to the analysis of contemporary stylistic trends, giving rise to a traditionally modern complex. The hotel is designed to offer an exclusive stay thanks to its formal fineness, the use of local materials and the renovation of an imposing arched portal of the 17th century, which characterises the entrance to the building with its strong presence. The symbolism of the arch, an archetypal element that reminds of the Tuff caves of the Civita, is just one of the many iconic elements that characterize this structure and create a line of continuity with the past. Besides, the faรงade is marked by the juxtaposition of vertically arranged, chromatically calm lighting elements, which define a new, visibly homogeneous space with warm colours, in contrast to the intense light the city reflects naturally. An overall view of the fragmented faรงade is also offered by the rhythmic position of the Mazzaro slabs; it is a very resistant and performing type of Tuff, and it is also used as a traditional local covering material. On the other hand, La Suite offers an impressive view on a courtyard space used for collective events for the inhabitants and visitors of the city. The linearity of the faรงade is intermediated by a charming Winter Garden, a real seamless extension that acts as a filter between the outside and the inside and that can be enjoyed every time of the year.

The entire project was conceived and realised as a new urban meeting point, generating wide spaces intended for the social life of the city without contaminating its historicity. In this way, the interiors are characterized by plays of perspective, iconic elements and by a scenic use of light. The atmosphere is made welcoming in all areas of the hotel, including common areas and rooms; it has been thought to provide visual relaxation for human eyes, used to the cold and artificial lights of the city. The building comprises a basement and six floors above ground; on the ground floor there are the hall, the coffee bar and the breakfast room, which can be converted into an informal meeting space. While, in the basement there are a meeting room, a SPA comprising a wellness centre and a fitness room, and finally a wine cellar, used for tastings of fine wines.

La Suite consists of 40 generously sized rooms of different surface areas, equipped with flexible spaces, customised furniture, including lamps at bed heads, and bathrooms, characterised by a homogeneous chromaticism that reminds of domesticity. Geometries, volumes and materials, from the most technical ones in flooring, to structural laminates, to traditional stones, are expressed through fine workmanship and elegant details, creating a timeless style. Indeed, tradition is reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective, as it must necessarily meet the new demands of the hospitality market in a worldunique city increasingly focused on quality tourism. Ilmiodesign's project is based on two key inspirations: Miami Beach, which we identify as pastel colours that blend with urban art, and the style of the group of the Italian architects of the 70s, Archizoom. The nature of the project, which involved a total renovation of an existing building, has been determined by the material choices. The use of around 12,000 m2 of tile in different shades chosen by the designers and developed by the Spanish brand VITROGRES stands out as a key element, used both in the common areas and in the rooms. For the facade, the designers added some cantilevers and vertical elements, as well as an intense lighting that at night reminds of Miami's art-deco neighbourhood. The entrance hall is designed as a multifunctional 82 | G&G _ Magazine
space, where, in addition to the reception we have added a library space, a coffee bar for events and a "Zero Suite" room. This is a transparent space where one can sleep for free for one night, as long as they're willing to be seen at all times as in the reality series Big Brother.
We worked on all aspects to fully remodel the existing building.
We liked to mix contemporary design with a natural element and in this case tropical like the wood from Bali that we have used for the tables and beds. From the hall one can watch the exterior relaxing area. This area is marked by the choice of pink and purple tiles in the floors extending in the pools as well, achieving an aesthetic continuity. The bar area is inspired by the typical "Bay Watch" style turrets where in this case the watchman is the DJ who animates the public and below is the bar.

86 | G&G _ Magazine
On the other hand, the rooms and corridors are an explosion of colours. There are three different types of colour palettes for the rooms, mixed throughout the 60 rooms of the hotel. In them, the designers wanted to design a unique environment where the customer can enjoy the abundant details discovering them throughout their stay. Also here VITROGRES' tiles have been used as “rug at the foot of the bed” creating it through a change in the tone of the material. The
designers opted for custom-designed furniture and lighting objects that offer an added value to the interior design project and a more genuine character to the hotel's creative essence, such as the headboard, the sofas, the bar that, depending on the type of room, incorporates a Smeg refrigerator and finally the stools by the Spanish outdoor furniture firm Isimar. henot Palace extends over 20’000 sqm, revealing the careful renovation of existing hotel buildings and the addition of a new timber guest room block, complimented by a state-ofthe-art medical spa and wellness area. The sensitivity and restraint of the intervention lies in reacting discreetly to the surrounding nature, it is an exercise in landscape. Upstream and east the scale of the volumes are reduced to create a dialogue with the existing residential urban fabric of the extension of the village, to the west and downstream towards the lake the buildings become the backdrop to nature. One of the aims was to preserve the appearance of the classic old hotel and to reinforce it by visually reducing the volume and the diversity of the architectural languages of the new individual buildings. Thus, the view of the property from the lake remains unchanged from before the new development; the new guest room building has been set back above the entrance and its volumes staggered in such a way that it is not ever fully visible. The spa volume is covered with gardens and on

arrival the only hint of spaces that might lie inside is across a series of bonsai courtyards. The timber cladding of the new guest rooms, spa and pool area plays a game of shadows and creates a material landscape embedded in the green gardens while the uniting of the old hotel buildings with the new elements is a synthesis of architectural language with simplicity in materials to ensure that the senses are not overwhelmed. The language of the new adopts the symbolic traits of the historical buildings, recalling the proportions and character of the vernacular, expressed in a contemporary way, combining the organic with the geometric, all in chromatic harmony.
Inside, the transition between environments of varying degrees of intimacy is curated, through form, colour and light, to gradually prepare us to retreat to the most remote places in which to cultivate our dreams. Along the lake, bound by the purifying beauty of the Alps, we are compared to the magnificent scale of the mountains and the sky; on entering the building we experience a gradual reduction to a more human scale, passing from the organic nature of the gardens, through the spacious sinuous reception to find ourselves enjoying the peace given by the evocative force and organic beauty of the courtyards decorated with historic bonsai. In its microcosmic fluidity, precision and beauty, this is a journey from the experience of the great mountains through to the most private intimate spaces. Living in a world of stimuli stretches the perception of time. The senses are stimulated to absorb proportions, light and shade; colours are borrowed from the surrounding nature.
The experience of living nature also continues in the dining rooms with high ceilings and grand dĂŠcor where it's possible to admire the view of Lake Lucerne. Besides, here Chenot Palace proposes its diet carefully designed to work in synergy with the other medical treatments to support the detoxification, stimulation and reset of the body. 92 | G&G _ Magazine
The medical spa lies heart of Chenot Palace. Set across 5,000 sqm, with over 100 treatment rooms and offices, the Spa and Medical Department embody a connection to nature where colours, shapes and space transcend openness and neutrality. The area is organised by department; aesthetic, hydrotherapy and medical. The reception areas and doctors’ offices are set 94 | G&G _ Magazine
around bonsai garden courtyards, bringing in natural light and maintaining a constant connection to and accompaniment of nature. As in all communal areas, also here the ceilings have been carefully designed evoking scenes of forests, roots, water and fire, making guests feel part of a living sculpture while echoing the Chenot philosophy of vitality.
96 | G&G _ Magazine
Chenot Palace host 97 elegantly furnished rooms with lake views, meaning that the guest always has a relationship to the surrounding nature; one detailed micro scale and the other with the macro distant landscape. This allows the guest to relate himself to the wider vastness of the lake
and the Alps but also to the intimate, close nature he finds in the microcosm of the bonsai courtyard and gardens, putting him always at ease in his environment. Address: Hertensteinstrasse Switzerland

istinction and subtlety take place in this housing project where one of the main objectives was to obtain updated and renovated spaces that lacked personality and character. The main premise of its owners was to obtain great quality rooms and the creation of a new distribution of housing that catered to their needs. Therefore, all the spaces were redistributed again, restoring all the areas and giving back their essence and soul. Homogeneous and wide areas were obtained, where natural light is one of the main protagonists. A style was chosen where contemporary elements are combined with fresh

colors. An arrangement was made in the spacious hall and distributor of the house where the sculptural staircase is located, which was designed and made to measure with artwork of Victor Lope's Gallery. It was completed with a technical and decorative lighting project, obtaining different environments throughout the entire building controlled through a fully integrated home automation system. The day area was located on the facade with more natural light to enjoy more hours of sunshine. All areas are connected so that the dialogue between them is not broken and away from their compartmentalization. On the one hand, we find the living room area where the fireplace is the center of the space and, on the other, the dining room where you can enjoy meetings with friends and family; both differ due to the use of different different textiles in a harmonic way.
In the large custom-made kitchen, the aim was to obtain a space where the whole family could be together without losing sight of the outside. For this reason, an iron glazed area was designed for the breakfast area next to the large island and the small dining room where you can make more informal meetings. Here, indeed, the terrace is presented as an extension of the day zone, so that interior and exterior become the same area. 102 | G&G _ Magazine

A specific space was allocated for the location of the office, conceived as a very intimate place, near the staircase that provides natural lighting to the home. In terms of materials, The Room Studio opted for the main use of natural woods, different types of marble, brass and iron, as well as comfortable textiles with subtle colors. The aim was to endow the house with the nobility and sobriety for which it is characterized, combining it with timelessness in the different environments and creating lighting scenes in every corner. As a whole, a range of neutral and simple shades are used throughout the house. These colors are prolonged in the materials used, choosing ceramic pieces for the design of the bathrooms, combining them with wooden paneling. The timelessness and continuity in time of the elements introduced are sought.
The general lines used are clean and continuous, avoiding irregularities and seeking their purity. In addition, soft textile papers are used in different parts of the house. These are combined with very balanced colors and always forming part of the same color palette, without eccentricities.

In the night area, the suite rooms were designed using a contemporary and informal style. The warmth they give off with the use of different textiles and shades creates a very personal, comfortable and bright environment. Different
works of art scattered around the house were included and structures with personalities and who take center stage in the house were used. The aim was to give it an elegant air that breaks with fabrics and colors that are fresher. All the bedrooms have access to the different exterior terraces, where a great variety of vegetation was installed creating a small oasis.

Dior and Ralph Lauren, in addition to influences from the Four Seasons Hotel designed by PierreYves Rochon, the interiors were radically overhauled, from staircases to windows, flooring to façades. The living room celebrates a stunning reconstructed staircase, while dÊcor details nod to the most bespoke of luxury interiors. The crystal chandelier celebrates the remarkably high ceilings, which warranted a full reinforcement to support the 150kg chandelier piece, and the lightflooded space boasts ample room for lounging or entertaining.
Musing on a predominately white interior, the home seamlessly blends wooden elements with individual colour palettes for each distinct area. Deep blue’s sweep the living room while touches of green encompass the kitchen, and a soft vanilla plays with light in the charming child’s bedroom. The kitchen exhibits exquisite marble with refined furnishings and windows are elegantly outfitted by textiles from the Hermes Jungle Life Collection.

The home’s generous windows play with natural sunlight during the day – a constant source of essential inspiration in the home - and sumptuous lighting from brands such as Baccarat and Lladro bring familial warmth into the evening
hours. The sophisticated bedrooms were designed to nurture the human condition, opting for darker colours that invoke deep comfort and protection, and private living spaces were tailored for the utmost of reflection and relaxation.
The wardrobe room lends itself to functional yet aesthetic organisation, creating a streamlined start to any day ahead. Bathrooms again echo the elegant marbles seen throughout the home, where French house Pierre Frey’s ‘Pampa’ print stylishly pulls the space together in a stunning and elegant finish.

I
n recent times Bandra has become a vibrant yet highly dense neighbourhood, symptomatic of the crunching space in Indian metropolises. As a result, the floor space of an average household gets more and more constrained and precious. This forces some to leave the neighbourhood and move further away from the city centre. But for others it means that they’ll have to make do with less space. This increasing problem has been ingeniously addressed in this apartment. The apartment has an adaptable and open arrangement. Dispensable walls between rooms were removed and replaced with objects in order to optimize space. Because walls can be opened and closed, folded or sliding away, the home can be restructured, expanded, fragmented, connected or isolated. In order to optimize space,
120 | G&G _ Magazine
every wall, nook and surface has been put to multiple uses. Essential electrical connections and plumbing fixtures are integrated into the cupboards and wardrobes. The materialization of the partitions are optimised depending on their insulating, waterproofing, maintenance and tactile requirements. The living room and the open kitchen although connected are spatially defined due to the shift in the walls, and the yellow stained birch plywood bookcase which defines the living room space. The kitchen has been designed such that it feels warm and homely and as many as the utility clutter that usually defines the looks of a kitchen has been kept out of sight. This is underlined with a solid oak wood counter and oak-veneered panels contrasted with a blackened steel paneling and bar unit.
Rare in this context the apartment is lucky to overlook a small neighbourhood park. The most priced room of the apartment, a verandah cum dining room is placed overlooking the park, with a living room just behind that. The living room can be connected with the verandah by sliding away all glass panels into a hidden pocket. While bringing down the inside to outside threshold it brings the frangipani trees on the verandah inside the living room. While a typical two-bedroom apartment in this context has two attached bathrooms and a common toilet, space is saved by allocating one attached bathroom between and accessible from two bedrooms. The functions of the second bathroom become independent and are separated into specific activities: showering, brushing, grooming and shaving. A rain shower with a view, a shaving sink, and a vanity cabinet with full length mirror are dispersed to specific locations in the bedroom which, when closed completely disappear. While freeing up space it also allows for multiple activities to take place simultaneously in the daily routine. Loose furniture pieces are kept to a minimum to increase open floor space in the apartment. Objects are divided into categories with varying
frequency of use. Those used every day are allocated in specific spaces that can be closed when not in use and occupy their surrounding space when opened. By opening and closing, sliding and folding it up, the home is restructured, expanded, fragmented, connected or isolated. While objects used less frequently are kept in storage that is easily accessible by the virtue of them being placed in wall partitions.
The master bedroom overlooks the park as well. It opens to the park with steel sliding doors which can completely slide away. The bed is positioned against a graphite stained birch plywood wall behind which a separate his and hers walk in 124 | G&G _ Magazine
wardrobe and a shaving sink are kept out of sight. A timber floored deck space includes a hidden rain shower, and a comfortable leather butterfly chair all within the master bedroom space. The result is a stylish design with minimal furniture.

Noteworthy design details include bespoke furnishings, 128 | G&G _ Magazine
commissioned artwork by local artists, and an exterior glass feature with a dramatic tile mosaic spanning the full length of the 34-story tower. Jules Wilson Design Studio designed the common areas to be elevated, while functional. Custom sofas in jewel-toned velvet and a series of contemporary, Old Western-inspired murals by Nashville artist Brian Wooden welcome guests to the lobby.
“This was an exciting opportunity to design inspiring, elevated spaces for the community that will stand the test of time. Fifth Broadway is bursting with energy, and it is a place we hope that many will be proud to call home. - Jules Wilson, principal of Jules Wilson Design Studio
Tufted leather walls, custom millwork, and ruby drapes adorn the aptly named Ruby Lounge to create a sumptuous gathering space. A bold graffiti mural by artist Alic Daniel turns a mailroom into a gallery, with darker finishes and
luxe materials to lend a touch of elegance to an everyday space. Rare photographs and behindthe-scenes moments with famous musicians adorn the corridors, offering a subtle nod to the artistic oeuvre of the city.

In keeping residents’ personal tastes in mind, Jules Wilson Design Studio chose a simplified, modern design in the apartment units to encourage individual creativity and customization. Brick interiors, exposed concrete, and steel frame windows lend an industrial character to the lower lofts. The tower and penthouse residences receive a luxurious treatment, with higher-end finishes, elevated ceilings, and expansive views of the city skyline.

The clients was a young couple who asked to do a integrative living room to receive friends and family and enjoy the time together in a large and comfort space. One of the clients' requests was a good living area where the living room was integrated with the kitchen. The style of the house is a contemporary design with neutral tones and a touch of color in the details. That style match a lot with the couple style and the result was amazing. Monise Rosa made a kitchen island with a bench that extends until it becomes a table, having enough space to comfortably receive many people - it's perfect way to integrate the environments. The chandelier lamp above the dining table and quartz countertop give a touch of luxury and sophistication.
"We seek a young and modern design with neutral tones at the base in gray and details in blue."
140 | G&G _ Magazine
The winning point of the house is the living room that turned to be a large and comfort space to them enjoy the time and receive their family and friends. Monise Rosa had a chance to created a space with functionality and comfort. She also made a slatted panel behind the TV that serves both as a support and to camouflage the access door to the rooms. The palette of colors in this project is tones of grey, white, details in blue and a touch of wood in the furniture. As for the light, the designer opted both for natural light sources and the use of lamps. The project has a very large window thanks to which all natural light enters during the day. While for the night, the designer added lightning spots and a lot of LED in the details to enhance the environment.
As the property had three bedrooms, customers asked that one of the three be developed to be a guest room, but before the work was finished, the couple had their first child, so the designer changed the initial plan and transformed this room into the child's room. While the second bedroom was removed to expand the master

room. Indeed, one of the difficulties of this project was the size of the master bedroom. There wasn't enough closet space for the husband and wife, so the designer had to expand the bedroom to create a new one. Both the master bedroom and bathroom has a cozy atmosphere with shades of gray.

During the renovation, the designer maintained only the layout of the laundry and the baby room. The latter has a modern and stylish concept thanks to the renew of dĂŠcor.
