I

t's been a long time since the last design guide released by G&G _ Magazine. Due to the pandemic and the inability to travel, participation in major events such as design weeks was very limited for everyone. But now, with the arrival of the new season, it's time to restart and to "embrace the world"! A Paris Design Guide with all our favorite tips - all at once gathered here in this edition. Unlike the other design guides, we haven't selected a list of places where to eat, where to sleep, what to see etc., but we have opted to offer you a few exclusive places that are only recently open to the public. You will be lucky enough to be among the first to see them! Obviously, the focus of the week remains the Maison&Objet fair with its trends and novelties. But, in my opinion, to find the charm and excitement, you should go for along the streets of this romantic city! From the Maison Dada exhibition in the famous Le Marais district to the newly renovated five-star Saint James Paris hotel to the Musée Carnavalet, always just open after a long restoration. Remember that Paris is a city rich in architectural history and culture, so I also recommend you explore the arrondissements or districts in their uniqueness. The typically Parisian gray roofs, the bistro chairs lining the streets, the decorative doors and hidden courtyards. Every corner can be a hidden jewel! So, in this Paris Design Guide, I suggest you broaden your horizons and dive into the city's spirit and immortalise your Parisian days by posting your shots on Instagram. And don't forget to use the hashtags: #PDW21 and #gandgmagazineeu!

I’m always interested in your opinion, send me any feedback or suggestions at zhanna@gandgmagazine.eu

Harsh textures Studio Modijefsky designed De Biertuin West in Amsterdam inspired by the German biergärten - an outside open area usually surrounded by trees where beer and food are served on long communal wooden tables. As De Biertuin West has both inside and outside space, the studio decided to bring the biergärten atmosphere indoors, with an urban garden vibe for the external façade and outdoor terrace. Linearity, togetherness, and warmth are the concept’s main components. These abstract elements are translated into an interplay of raw, rough materials often found in outdoor spaces such as concrete, wood, aged red copper, and oxidized green copper. The walls are covered with a soft touch of recycled oak to enable the leather on the customed furniture stand out and highlight the bar’s dark grey concrete texture. PARIS DESIGN GUIDE

GET THE SCOOP ON NEW DESIGN IDEAS, MUST-HAVE PRODUCTS AND PLACES TO VISIT DURING PARIS DESIGN WEEK!

Mark the dates in your diary now!

From 9 to 18 September the French capital hosts Paris Design Week - it is an opportunity for everyone to reinvent themselves by discovering new trends, visiting the new showrooms and participating in the most anticipated events of the year including Maison&Objet.

MAISON&OBJET September 09-13, 2021 Paris Nord Villepinte In synergy with Paris Design Week, M&O finally proposes itself in the real version of the fair. More than 1400 French and international brands will return with their stands exhibiting not only their latest works but all the news that they have not been able to show in the last two years due to the pandemic.

“With the return of Maison&Objet to Paris-Nord Villepinte and with Paris Design Week in the heart of the capital, we are able to offer design and decoration professionals and enthusiasts the opportunity to connect and engage in person once again, which is something we have all so sorely missed over the past few months. Driven by enthusiasm, passion and energy, our teams are firmly focused on bringing you the very best of design in Paris.”

The chance to TOUCH and SEE LIVE remain the two determining factors for the choice of furnishings and accessories for the home. The exhibitors interviewed say their physical presence at the show not only serves to celebrate all the hard work required to launch new collections, but is also critical to making new connections, seeing what the competition is doing and gaining a clearer understanding of the market in the whole. Visitors, including buyers and interior designers, have all come to the same conclusion and are eager to interact with suppliers beyond their screens. Therefore, this autumn session will have a strong impact not only on the French economy but on the global one by stimulating the match between supply and demand. For those who, unfortunately, will not be able to participate in - Philippe Brocart, the fair, M&O offers its digital platform - MOM (Maison&Objet M&O General Manager and More), active since 2016. Thanks to this, the brandexhibitors can broadcast the videos of their collections captured before the fair or on their stand: a unique opportunity to reach distant foreign buyers! Besides, with this new edition, M&O announces the launch of ”Maison & Objet Academy”- a streaming channel that offers exclusive content reserved for decoration, design and lifestyle professionals to help them learn and stay informed, by subscription - at the price of 14,99€ PM.

DESIGN ADDRESS TO BE NOTED! ARCHIK, a new kind of real estate agency that is shaking up the sector by placing architecture at the center of its activity and by promoting the notion of the Art of Living, opened its doors in Paris.

54 | G&G _ Magazine

Located in the heart of the Marais, ARCHIK's new address spans two floors Solid oak, steel and striated glass, the materials give pride of place to this 160 m2 space which houses the ARCHIK teams and his partners. To its global and tailor-made approach, ARCHIK adds the edition of design objects and furniture. Thus, every year, a new edition is designed by a guest designer, who lends himself to the game of co-creation and imagines an exclusive limited-edition piece. Maison ARCHIK Paris hosts ephemeral exhibitions, a curation of design pieces and furniture, and soon exclusive events such as conferences, talks, workshops or chef dinners. It's furnished and decorated like an apartment by guest brands and designers such as Kann Design, Red Édition, JOA and GOODMOODS. On the wall, selected by Murs Blancs, the colorful canvases of the duo Baltus & Person, punctuated with ceramics by Léa Ginac; and in the gallery, the Série 04, Paradis Perdus collection by Marseille designer Margaux Keller, with its variation of seats, vases and glasses with delicate charm, all produced in limited series, putting the South in the spotlight.

For the new collection, Maison Dada is presenting a series of editions featuring international designers such as Kiki Van Eijk, Claudio Colucci, Najma Temsoury and of course the brand’s artistic director and designer Thomas Dariel. He has imagined an original scenography dedicated to the Ellia Gallery’s setting located in Le Marais. AUTOSCOPY or the Incredible Voyage, takes one to a truly new kind of travel out of yourself, questioning today’s concerns of what is essential, what can extract yourself from your daily obligations and how to stay inspired and useful. Maison Dada’s furniture and objects become the characters of this scenario with a French flare interacting together to create an autoscopic experience. Some would think of Gondry’s universe or Dali’s installations but at the end we are in the very heart of Thomas Dariel’s universe with its singularity and audacity. Colors, shapes and textures of the exhibited creations dynamically dialogue with a sense of humour while adding some new functions to Maison Dada collection (such as vases, clocks, rocking-chair). «Margot» Vase Design by Thomas Dariel

WHAT TO VISIT Among all the historical gems of the city, we propose you just opened to the public, the historic Musée Carnavalet. After an extensive four-year renovation by Snøhetta, the museum reopens offering a unique travel through time to discover the rich history of Paris through 625,000 artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, wooden objects, art pieces and photography.

Snøhetta was commissioned along lead architect Chatillon Architectes to undertake the architectural renovation of the museum that is the oldest of all Parisian museums. Because of its significant historic importance, the overall design of the museum is developed in close collaboration with the museum’s scientific and cultural teams, as well as a wide range of experts on the city of Paris. The renovation carefully respects the original features of the building while restoring it to comply with current standards and enhancing the overall museum experience for all visitors. The latter is attained through the establishment of a more intuitive journey through the museum, the courtyards, and gardens, but also by making the building more adapted to children and people with disabilities. 10% of all artefacts are displayed at children’s eye-level. While Chatillon Architectes have overseen the overall museum restauration and redevelopment, Snøhetta has added a touch of novelty to the space through the design of the new furniture pieces in the reception area and contemporary staircases. Snøhetta has also been in charge of the graphic design of the museum’s wayfinding, exhibition sings, panels and mediation equipment that will help facilitate the overall museum visit. 62 | G&G _ Magazine

The new and monumental staircases are designed as bold organic shapes in dark steel with a refined timber step work. Throughout, Snøhetta has chosen to provide a dark consistent palette in coordination with the rest of the project and in particular with the new permanent scenography created by Agence NC (Nathalie Crinière) highlighting the detail and complexity of the displayed artefacts.

EAT, DRINK & LOVE Designed by Studio Lizée-Hugot, the Parisian restaurant Abstinence is a perfect tip if you want to enjoy a good business lunch or an intimate dinner in a stylish venue with a cinematic ambience and ’70s vibe. 47 Av. de la Motte-Picquet 64 | G&G _ Magazine

The designers dreamed up an elegant, intimate décor for this eatery that seamlessly incorporates a mix of noble materials: wood, leather, stainless steel and marble. They did a new take on a classic style, seeking a perfect balance by combining smooth and brushed textures. The wood paneling is made of oak and bird’s eye maple, while the wood floor contrasts with the lacquered ceiling and polished stainless-steel chairs. Besides, all the furniture is designed by the studio: tall chairs and stools with cognac leather seats on polished stainless-steel frames, a large bevel-cut sculptural bar made of Sarrancolin marble, enameled lava stone tabletops.

EXCLUSIVE TOUR Located at the heart of the 16th district, Saint James Paris is the ideal place to stay in the French capital. With its re-opening in July 2021, the five-star Château hotel started a new story, through now 50 rooms and suites, a new restaurant concept, the iconic barlibrary, a Guerlain spa and new areas dedicated to well- being as well as completely redesigned and vast gardens.

5 Pl. du Chancelier Adenauer

66 | G&G _ Magazine

Olivier Bertrand has entrusted the interior architect Laura Gonzalez the complete renovason of the Parisian Saint James hotel, as well as the creason of new spaces and the development of hotel flats located opposite the establishment. Inspired by the pressgious building, designed in 1892 as a vast collector’s mansion, she chose to breathe new life into this five-star hotel by emphasising its neo-classical beauty and its many references to Greek ansquity and Art Deco. Through each of her decorasve choices, Laura has transformed this historic building into a new emblem of the Parisian spirit. True to her daring mixes of styles, the architect has fused the romansc spirit of the hotel with the soul of a gentlemen’s club and breathed light and life into every space, from the spa to the garden. Kelly has seductively designed the living room with her love of hosting in mind. Great wooden panels were added to the impressive pre-existing columns framing the room. These add monumentality to the space, The frescoes extend over the 15 meters under the ceiling and the monumental stairwell sublimate the lobby. The panoramic wallpapers, the contrasts of custom made "toile de Tours" fabric, the stripes, the floral motifs, the decorative objects and antique pieces of art, perfectly reflect the audacious character of Laura Gonzalez.

Located under a pergola in the garden, the new historic English bar and gourmet restaurant "Bellefeuille" were redesigned in the style of a winter garden offering a magnificent view of the enclosed gardens

68 | G&G _ Magazine

As for the mythical Saint James’ bar-library, it is immersed in an intimate, English-style atmosphere of velvet, woodwork and subdued lighting.

Laura imposes her style, inclassable by the diversity and the richness of fabrics and colors in the rooms of the hotel. Decorated around a palette of four colors from cream to celadon green, the rooms and bathrooms evoke the apartments of a collector who would live here, surrounded by his books and works of art.

70 | G&G _ Magazine

Each spaces are decorated with custom-made furniture and punctuated with pieces of French craftsmanship such as the plaster chandeliers of sculptor Patrice Dangel. All is conducive to rest and inspiration.

50 SHADES OF BEIGE To have a complete inspiration of the Parisian savoir-faire, we couldn't help but choose an interior design project that would give you a taste of what the walls of the city's houses reserve. We opted for a Haussmannian apartment re-designed by the architect's duo Caprini & Pellerin, based in Cannnes.

The apartment is close to the avenue Matignon; here, the founders of the studio, Kevin Caprini and Jerry Pellerin, entirely reworked its volumes and materials to create a seventies-inspired space, where contemporary pieces and vintage treasures blend freely.

The architects focused on maximising space within the apartment by drawing new perspectives and creating tensions that can change perceptions and direct the gaze outward for a panoramic view of the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower.

The architects chose Holland & Cherry and James Malone fabrics to produce the curtains and Bisson Bruneel for the upholstery. They also made to measure the library in walnut and bronze, and the cheminée using travertine, brick and bronze splines. They designed the lighting piece, from bronze and resin, for the dining room table. Through design they found a way to light the dining area without the use of a suspension in order to leave the beauty of the ceiling untouched.

In the living area, some selected vintage pieces including the Chandigarh chair collecoon by Le Corbusier, the Traccia table by Meret Oppenheim and the authenoc Valenono table by Capelan Italia cohabit under the same roof with the contemporary Groundpiece sofa by Flexform, the tasteful Inventory rug by Faith Toogood and the Duo Mulolaque coffee tables by Pierre Auguson Rose. Among the art singled out for this apartment, the architects chose Robert Combas and Le Corbusier.

The architects have imbued the place with a seventies inspired spirit combined with contemporary lines where harmony and softness reign, in response to the expectations of the owner who wished to “live in a cocoon, an elegant and comfortable space.” Much of the apartment’s original architectural influence was recomposed by adding a theme of arches, alcoves, curved partitions and barrel vaultings. A soothing palette of beige travertine plinths and mineral renders run throughout. While the colors used are subdued, the architects injected an extra feeling of warmth using oak, walnut and bronze.

Quietness and gentleness are the key words of this project and find all their meaning in the virtue of organic materials, neutral colors, sober lines and finesse of details, all of which are tools used by the architects to emphasize volume in order to create an orderly scenography. The architects played not only with matter and volume but with light as well, having judiciously studied how lighting can participate in the enhancement of textures. To sustain a consistent thread, much of the furnishings were custom made and coexist beautifully with the choice of vintage furniture and the selected art pieces.

The entrance dressed with it theme of arches and alcoves, vintage african mask and the «La Vaillante» art piece by Jerry Pellerin.

In one of the bedrooms, CapriniPellerin designed the bedhead and side table, used dreamy Series 84 Bocci suspensions, and also selected the Sculptural Chair by Rooms Design, an art piece in itself.

Caprini & Pellerin sign their architecture while immutably respecting the soul of the place, maintaining a connection between past and present and thus creating a harmony between traditional know-how and contemporary techniques.

L

ocated in the center of St. Petersburg, not far from St. Isaac's Cathedral, the apartment has undergone a renovation where the main task of the project was to preserve the original space of the main room with large windows. To guarantee the city view, all the main areas like the living room, kitchen and bedrooms are located along the windows while the utility rooms and bathrooms are located along the blank wall. The designers wanted to preserve the light and volume of the main room as much as possible, so to the open space composed by the spacious living room, dining area and kitchen was given the central part of the apartment with two windows. Here, as in the whole house, the interior design is

88 | G&G _ Magazine

a mixture of minimalism with classic elements. In the living room, an elegant metal library adjoins classic double doors with copper fittings. Following the minimalist mold, there is no sofa, but two gray armchairs have been positioned with a simple design - perfect to read a book or browse a newspaper. Next, we find the lunch table accompanied by two chairs and a bench - all in wood and strictly black, giving a rigid touch to the environment. In front, of the same color we find the kitchen tailored with copper details. Here, the designers have created a strong contrast by putting a white island from the industrial style that acts both from a work desk and from the counter to have breakfast. Above, we find the suspension of spherical lampshades in frosted white glass that reports the modern accent.

90 | G&G _ Magazine

The master bedroom with a third window is separated from the common area from a glass window accompanied by white curtains, which helps to preserve the feeling of a common space. Here, an ancient French wardrobe stands next to a bed with a simple shape. Always separated from a glazed, the white ensuite bathroom features a classic-shaped copper bathtub, next door there is an elegant

metal ladder for towels and a cabinet under the sink. Minimalist technological solutions such as walls without plinth or terrace in the bathrooms laid with plaster through a copper partition were used. Another door in the bathroom leads to the toilet and laundry. Here, a fine and simple design has always been maintained, from neutral tones.

From the living room you reach the guest room that presents the similar scheme of the main bedroom: a large window, a simple bed with curved shapes and an en-suite bathroom. As a

classic element, an ancient belief has been chosen. The modern style is followed by 2 small tables positioned on the sides of the bed, the lamps and the mirror leaned directly on the floor.

Balanced at the top of Sant Josep Hills of Ibiza, Villa Cielo overlooks the sea and the pine forest. This old farm, first restored by Blakstad* in the '70s, has been transformed again, both from both architecturally and in terms of design, by Oscar Lucien Ono and his design firm Maison Numéro 20, to become an ultra-contemporary villa, the antithesis of the Iberian codes. 94 | G&G _ Magazine

W

ith blue as a common thread, the aptly named Villa Cielo is a living tribute to the sky and the sea. Here, variations of turquoise, indigo, Klein blue or ultramarine joyfully energize the space and are elegantly punctuated with touches and gradations of yellow, like a ray of sunshine. The exterior is a reflection of the old ranch and its surroundings: contemporary and natural. The garden was made to remain a wild but sophisticated place. It multiplies cosmopolitan inspirations in a rocky setting with its cacti, Japanese steps, Moroccan fountain dressed in Majorelle blue, and citrus plantations from the Mediterranean basin. You will find here various intimate and inviting living spaces, which are very naturally integrated into the garden with surrounding flora that structures the space. Inside, Oscar Lucien Ono and Maison Numéro 20 stripped the space bare and kept only the walls in order to rework the space in a contemporary and daring style. The villa is now completely open and is a window to the surrounding nature. These living scenes are framed in black metal and reinforce the spectacle of nature by underlining the purity of the dry and graphic lines of the villa. It is thanks to the architecture design that plays with the codes of indoor/outdoor that nature joins the design of the space in 96 | G&G _ Magazine

an organic osmosis. The energetic modern look of the interiors is supported by elegant touches of blue and yellow and is complemented by a careful selection of decorative elements tailored to the unique spirit of this villa. In the hall, under large openings in the ceiling that let the light through, a yellow chrome bench from Minotti illuminates the space, alongside a golden bookcase that rounds out the space like a wave. Continuing we find the kitchen adorned with black horse marble that reflects the light from the large wall windows. The kitchen shows Oscar Lucien Ono and Maison Numéro 20's approach to bringing the contemporary into an old ranch house, as evidenced by the original beams still visible on the ceiling.

Also, in the living room the beams overlook a warm space that is bathed in sunlight provided by large windows overlooking the pool and the Sant Josep region. This living and dining room is a friendly and lively space due to a layout designed to host family and friends. The carpet is in natural colors by the Lelièvre design and publishing studio, and a sofa by Gallotti & Radice is set around a solid armchair and a glass coffee table. The dining room is also a gathering place, with a glass table by Silvera and comfortable seats by Gallotti & Radice. A Bolia light fixture illuminates this dining room table on those evenings when the sun is not shining, or the curtains are drawn down to enjoy the privacy of the villa.

98 | G&G _ Magazine

The outside living room plays the idea of space within space by designing as a real room bathed in greenery. The pool is decorated with the same color gradations found in the house, thanks to a mosaic illuminated with touches of 24-carat gold designed by Bisazza. Kettal's furniture enhances the feeling of being in an outdoor living room with the pool and the forest at your back. But

beyond the masonry living room, the outdoor kitchen and its huge table also make this garden a real place to be in, just like all the rooms in the villa. The wood used for the table and its canopy emphasizes the tribute to the surrounding forest, while Solène Eloy's "Ray of Light" continues to energize the architecture by illuminating the outdoor kitchen.

A light fixture in a range of blues sets the stage for the entrance around the graphic staircase leading to the upper floors of the villa and to the terrace. It is with the same meticulousness as for the interior of the villa that the different elements of the outdoor furniture were chosen. The roof

terrace is a real living room under the sun thanks to a furniture coming from the Mah Jong collection of Roche Bobois. This furniture composed of armchairs, sofas and coffee tables claims a total freedom of form and function: the ideal choice for a villa that breaks the codes.

102 | G&G _ Magazine

The interior and exterior are designed as a vibrant homage to nature. The master bedroom, with its immense white marble shower in the center and its faucets from the international firm Dornbracht is as if it were integrated into the forest thanks to its large openings overlooking the landscape. While both guest rooms have their own unique décor, each with its own variation of blue and yellow with an elegant gradation of colors. The last room overlooks the forest and cultivates the natural scene. With the use of large wooden slats that echo from the walls to the ceiling and fabrics in natural colors from Rubelli, it is like a cabin in the woods.

ELEMENTS

T

he main inspiration and source of energy for the renovation was the owner of the apartment: a very interesting and effective woman who works in a theatre. From the first meeting, it became clear how much she cares about the comfort and happiness of her beloved family, and Julia Baydyk and its team were happy to help them make their dreams come true. This apartment has a very favorable location – the last floor with a balcony. It offers gorgeous views of lakes, houses, clouds, and incredible sunsets. The design team tried to think over the layout in such a way as to maximize the panorama of this beautiful view and create a lounge area where it would be pleasant to contemplate the peaceful landscape. This should

106 | G&G _ Magazine

be the leisure area for relaxing, filling with the morning sun and enjoying a cup of fragrant coffee, and at the end of the day gazing the sunset and watching the smooth flickering of the lights and bustle of the city. Customers were not giving their consent to the proposed planning solution for a very long time: it seemed to them that it was strange to demolish the walls in the center of the apartment, and they were tormented by vague doubts. To show the correctness of its recommendation, Alta Idea Design Studio has designed eight layout options to choose from. After the first visualizations, the whole family loved its idea and agreed on the experiment. The original organization of the apartment, laid down in the project of the building, was quite cramped, with a corridor that absorbed the entire space. Therefore, every

possible wall was knocked down to make room. An open space has been created covering the kitchen, living room and dining area. By removing all unnecessary walls, all family members can interact with each other by doing different things but being in the same space. By opening the space for communication, the designers open a new chapter of the family with new rituals. The island kitchen is perfect for a quick light breakfast or snack. While in the dining and living room area, everyone can sit around one large table, under the stylish Italian chandelier Vistosi. It took quite a long time to choose the sofa, so that all the elements and colours of the interior were filed correctly and there was no overload of textures. Therefore, the designers opted for a very large three-meter-long sofa by calm shades providing enough space for everyone. Also, the

plaster is made in quiet shades and the parquet is painted in a very soft brown shade.

The master bedroom of the owners with its own dressing room and bathroom turned out to be very comfortable and calm, which should be a real place of rest. The designers used pleasant to the touch fabric, wooden wall panels and laconic textiles in it. It is tactile sensations that largely form a sense of comfort, then the high-quality bed linen was chosen. To guarantee a minimum of free space in the bedroom, the designers limited ourselves to just a couple of items and books on the bedside tables, laconic artistic accents and neat lamps.

108 | G&G _ Magazine

Following the entire design of the house, even the children's room has the calm tones that vary between gray and white. But it is still a space for children - so to make it more playful, accents of yellow have been added. Next to a large corner window, a bench with gray seating has been 110 | G&G _ Magazine

placed which makes the experience of enjoying the panoramic city view even better. To ensure a large space to play, the designers opted for a minimalist concept: a chair with a simple but modern desk, and a bunk bed that is an attraction in itself.

omposed by a living, two bedrooms, kitchen with a bar area and a beautiful patio, this house conveys the culture, history and religion of India. The clients wanted these elements to be present and highlighted in the design. For the interiors of the living area, AMPM Designs used refreshing colors such as olive green, powder blue and nudes. This fits perfectly with

Shahabad flooring in leather finish. The space is well lit thanks to the three large French windows which also guarantee a beautiful view of the property's garden. A classic hand-woven Indian rug and beautiful locally sourced crimson red curtains lend a majestic touch to the ambiance. In addition, the large mirrors and chandeliers crafted by Indian artisans were placed in the background of a wall with brown graphic wallpaper to bring tradition to the room.

116 | G&G _ Magazine

Next to the living room we find the black dining table with chairs, a traditional white chandelier has been placed over it. The dining room boasts a bar area formed by a classic black counter with brass inlay. Behind, it has been designed a wine cellar with a traditional method using fir cut bricks carved into arches there is no better way to showcase India's rich heritage.

As for the kitchen, the client had requested a low maintenance one, so the designers used Terrazzo tiles for the kitchen and added fluted and wooden shutters with a combination of pastel green glazed patterned tiles.

The patio is undoubtedly the most loved area of this stud farm. Here, the design team used the patterned black and white flooring. White walls in combination with the pergolas above create the perfect atmosphere for one to sit admire the beautiful landscape ahead. To perfect the space, a unique lighting has been installed: so many small spotlights that looks like a sky full of stars. The use of cane sofas, hand-painted pots with bougainvillea, scented candles and all the greens surrounding this space makes it a perfect outdoor relaxation station.

118 | G&G _ Magazine

The master bedroom is by calm gray shades and has a cosy atmosphere thanks to the curved lines of the bed. Instead, for the master bathroom, AMPM Designs chose to go all blue. The designers used handmade teal blue tiles with wooden finishing and incorporated gold faucets. While fluted glass partitions add just the right amount of drama to the space. For the daughter's room, the designers opted a custom-made bed embroidered with colourful floral thread work bedding and, to give the space a dainty touch, the lace curtains were added. The dresser and the coat stand were sourced from Jaipur. The dollhouse adds just the required charm to this bedroom. 120 | G&G _ Magazine

D

uring the planning process, Tal Goldsmith Fish Design studio searched for the right mixture of materials, colors and dynamics so as to provide to the clients a cosy home. While entering the main hall, a double height space is revealed. To soften the feeling and provide a sense of home rather than alienation, the studio decided to create a bridge right at the center of the space. Splitting the space in two not only provides a better human scale proportion but also provides a variety of interesting viewing angles and movement possibilities. The bridge leads to a western window with a view towards the sea and so there we created a small reading and relaxing area overlooking the sea. Separating the public and private areas was achieved through the creation of a large wall made of metalized glass blocks. Glass blocks have been in use all over the world for over 200 years now. Their strongest advantage is that they can be used to create constructive walls which transfer light and form reflections and thus soften the space and generate layers of interests. The glass blocks used in this project aren’t fully transparent but do transfer light and the silhouette of the person walking by on the other side. In addition, during different times of the day, different types of reflections are created adding more character to the space. The living area is a cleanly designed open space with calm tones. Under the bridge we find two sofas that give a lot of softness to the environment. A touch of extravagance is given by a sculptural object in the dark blue color of the appearance of a woman with ugly shapes.

126 | G&G _ Magazine

Alongside the sofas, on the other hand, a minimalist black kitchen stands out for its industrial style. Here, the studio has reserved a breakfast area for the kitchen island, accompanied by two wooden stools. But the strong point is what we find above the sink: a series of shelves hanging from the ceiling that act

as a support base for plants and various décor objects. The dining area is located near the stairs and, like the rest of the house, has a simple style. It is made up of a table and chairs, all in wood. The designers have also opted for the use of a rug that delimits the space making it more intimate.

The glass block wall accompanies the person climbing up the stairs to the upper level where the parents’ area is located along with the bridge. In the master bedroom, there is a second glass block wall which separates the sleeping area from the dressing area and bathroom while still keeping a connection between all. Instead, the children's bedroom is located on the first floor: here a wall with yellow and blue shades gives a playful touch. Together with the wooden floor and the upholstered furniture, a complete and harmonious image is created that induces serenity and tranquility. 128 | G&G _ Magazine
