This season opens with a series of performances which celebrate our fifth birthday, inspired by ‘Made in Doncaster’. Opening the Autumn with a bang is our annual outdoor extravaganza, sure to knock your socks off, followed by the world premiere of our Associate Artist Stand and Be Counted Theatre’s latest work, Where We Began. We will also hear the voices of local people brought to life with The Last Seam, a new play to mark the closing of Hatfield Colliery mine which, following four years of work in Doncaster will go on to be performed across the country as part of Cast’s very first touring production made right here. Our Second Space continues to be the home for something a bit different, with this season seeing a range of contemporary theatre, music and comedy. And of course, our theatre wouldn’t be the same without all of the hundreds of local talented people who perform on our stages throughout the year and brighten our programme with the best that Doncaster has to offer. Displacement and migration are ongoing themes throughout the programme, and remind us all that

Welcome there’s more than one way to tell a story. Moving, life-affirming and often funny too, it’s so important that theatres continue to give voice to those behind the news headlines and statistics. Finally, our participation programme continues to blossom with new projects for older people, those living with dementia, very young children, our local teenagers and families. There’s still time for you to book the last few remaining seats for Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood. We’re proud to present the UK’s only fully BSL integrated pantomime, and this year’s show promises to be the best yet. In our Second Space, Snow Play is an enchanting story for very young children and their families complete with a snowball fight! We hope you enjoy our Autumn/ Winter season and I look forward to welcoming you soon. Deborah Rees, Director See page 28

A darkly humorous folktale woven together with a high-energy concert. This genre-bending music-theatre hybrid starring folk sensation Ben Caplan is inspired by the true stories of two Jewish Romanian refugees immigrating to Canada in 1908. It’s about how to love after being broken by the horrors of war. It’s about refugees who get out before it’s too late, and those who get out after it’s too late. And it’s about looking into the eyes of God. Herald Angel Award & Scotsman Fringe First Award Winner B OX O F F I CE
