Friday 11 – Saturday 19 September #dancehallDN
The story of Doncaster ‘A soar-away stunning interpretation’ The Public Reviews on Barry Hines’ Kes
First dances at the Co-op Ballroom through to smooches at Top Rank. Boys on one side of the tracks meet girls from the other at Romeo and Juliet’s, whilst The Beatles play St James’s baths, the Sex Pistols storm Outlook and Bowie rocks Silver Street. Broken heels at Seventh Heaven to broken hearts at Parklands… Taking in dance floor crazes and fashion trends, Dancehall is our story. How we danced through wars hoping soldiers would come home, how we kept going through the strikes. It’s the moves we made through sixteen Prime Ministers and massive social change. It’s throwing down shapes when our horse won at the St Leger and Dads awkwardly

The Manfreds
Hits, Jazz and Blues Thursday 1 October
The ’60s group Manfred Mann is now considered, more than ever, one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. Their records have a timeless quality and, some 53 years on, The Manfreds, with original ‘front man’ Paul Jones, will be performing many of their hits, along with a mix of Jazz and Blues songs, from some of their best-known albums.
Saturday 19 September
Paul Jones, with his unique harmonica sound, will be joined by Mike Hugg on keyboards, Tom McGuinness on lead guitar, Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass guitar and Simon Currie on saxophone/flute.
In a rainbow eruption of powder and dance, The Colour of Time brings a stunning reinvention of the traditional Indian Holi Festival to the streets of Doncaster.

Each year, people throw gulal powder in the air showing great joy and mirth, celebrating unity, and acceptance of diversity through these colourful embraces. In a huge dance parade, dancers and musicians will move in a choreographed parade through Doncaster town centre towards a finale on the Sir Nigel Gresley Square outside Cast. Joining in, the audience are invited into a riotous expression of colour and joy, painting the sky with an explosion of gulal powder. An international street theatre performance from France’s Artonik, the show has been performed all over the world before making its way to Doncaster. FREE – register on 01302 303 959 or at castindoncaster.com and we’ll let you know when and where the fun starts! FILM
Pride
Friday 25 September Starring Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine It’s the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support. However the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners themselves. As part of this special event, we welcome Mike Jackson, co-founder of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners – who is portrayed in the film by Joseph Gilgun – for a postscreening Q&A. Fun Palaces
Saturday 3 October In the 1960s radical theatre director Joan Littlewood and architect Cedric Price imagined a place called a Fun Palace. A place that shouts, sings, shimmies and stomps from the rooftops about how brilliant the arts and sciences are. The idea was to create a ‘university of the streets’ a place of making, play, art, science, and a building for everyone. This Autumn Fun Palaces will be popping up all over the country bringing Joan and Cedric’s vision to life, and Cast will be one. Come and join us for a day of hands on experiments, jaw-dropping demonstrations and bucket loads of fun. Whole Venue 10am – 6pm FREE If you have a skill that you want to share on the day, see page 22 for how you can take part.

This high energy, comedy adventure show sees performance poet Dommy B (BBC Rhyme Rocket) collaborating with a live musician. Expect lyrics, laughs and lots of trolltastic terror!
Together they rescue juggling slugs, contortionist caterpillars, and a trio of acrobatic baby bats. But while the girls are busy being brave they overlook their winged friend, the King of Tiny Things, who needs their help most of all. Can they save him in time... Four circus artists bring the award-winning authors, Jeanne Willis and Gwen Millward’s, enchanting story to life with circus, puppetry and song.
In the middle of the night there is a noise – a snuffling and a shuffling and a splintering of wood. A line of trollprints lead out the door, across the lawn and into the deep, dark forest... When a grotesque gang of greedy trolls steal all the village’s pets (including Nikki’s favourite goldfish, Great Bumbleduke the Third!), who is going to come to the poor animals’ rescue?
One magical midsummer’s night two sisters huddle together, fearful of what the darkness holds, when a mysterious winged creature appears and leads them on a moonlit adventure.
Thursday 29 – Friday 30 October Building on the success of last year’s Ten Pieces this inspiring and immersive new cinematic film will introduce a generation of children to ten pieces of classical music. The film features stunning footage of the BBC Philharmonic performing a new selection of orchestral music, representing a wide range of styles and eras relevant to the music curriculum. Each piece will be introduced by a celebrity presenter using an engaging mix of live action and animation.
…and even more for families…

Heaven’s Walk
Going Viral
By Richard Cameron Directed by Esther Richardson Supported by Cast
An ARC Stockton Production Written and performed by Daniel Bye
Wednesday 2 December
Thursday 19 November
An aeroplane flies from India to England. Everyone on board is weeping. Everyone except you.
Based on the story of a real family, Heaven’s Walk looks at the events of 1916 in the community of Conisbrough, after a young Methodist preacher, Bill Brocklesby, speaks out against the war.
On the ground, the weeping spreads. Is it a strange new disease? An outbreak of hysteria? Or has the world become genuinely sad? In this uncanny, highdefinition world we are all more connected, more vulnerable, and more human – but not equally so.
Written by Richard Cameron and directed by Esther Richardson, this latest collaboration unites the pair who worked together for our opening production of The Glee Club. From Doncaster, Richard’s writing has the voice of his hometown running through it. A first chance to see this award-winning writers newest work in a rehearsed reading.
The award-winning Daniel Bye returns to Cast with an urgent, fantastical story from the front line of epidemic with his unique blend of storytelling, playful comedy and performance lecture.
