SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR CAST
An exclusive evening with Kully and Friends Monday 25 April As Cast’s acclaimed Artistic Director, Kully Thiarai, prepares to take up a new role as the head of National Theatre Wales, join her as she looks back on Cast’s dramatic opening years. Find out what it takes to open a brand new performance venue, the highs (and lows!) of running a theatre in the 21st century, and the amazing impact that Cast has had both locally and nationally. Kully will be joined by a cast of friends and special guests (including local theatre makers Slung Low’s Alan Lane and Miss Nightingale – the musical / Cast panto’s Matthew Bugg) for an evening of memories, music and performance. As well as getting an entertaining behind-the-scenes insight, you will also have the chance to ask questions. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to get a show on the road, if you love being in the audience or have always longed to be on stage this special one-off event is for you. Tickets to this fundraising event are strictly limited and include an invitation to an exclusive drinks reception after the event. Second Space 6.30pm Cast is a charity and tickets to this special fundraising event are by donation. Doncaster Amateur Operatic Society Music and lyrics by Dolly Parton Book by Patricia Resnick
Making a welcome return to Cast, Kate Rusby is a remarkable interpretive singer, Her soulful vocals resonate with the wistful beauty of an earthbound angel. She has that rare ability to transport her audience, of touching them emotionally and making each tune live vividly within their experience and imagination. Audiences are sure to be thoroughly entertained by Kate’s choice of much-loved classics from her back catalogue stretching over her two decades of music making, together with a selection of fresh new songs from her latest album Ghost (released Summer 2014). As ever, she will be joined on stage by the cream of British folk musicians who form her band. These virtuoso artists are sure to delight you with their exceptional talents.
Wednesday 25 – Saturday 28 May Following on from their hugely successful production of Hairspray in 2014, Doncaster Amateur Operatic Society presents the Broadway hit comedy based on the movie of the same name – a cocktail of friendship, gossip and revenge. Turning the tables on their sexist boss, Violet, Judy and Doralee are pushed to boiling point. As the three unlikely friends join forces there is nothing they can’t do... even in a man’s world. Set in the late 1970s this story of friendship and revenge is outrageous, thoughtprovoking, and even a little romantic. Featuring original music from Dolly Parton’s Oscar, Tony and Grammy award-nominated score, numbers include Backwoods Barbie, Shine Like The Sunday, and, of course, the original hit song 9 to 5. Sounds of the Glenn Miller Era
The Birthday Party
The Nick Ross Orchestra
London Classic Theatre By Harold Pinter
Friday 10 June
Wednesday 8 June
Recapture the sensational sounds and musical memories of times gone by in an unmissable evening of melodies and song that have prevailed through to today.
There’s a gentleman living here, it’s his birthday today and he’s forgotten all about it so we’re going to give him a party. A shabby boarding house in a small English seaside town. An elderly couple take care of a solitary guest who rarely ventures out. The arrival of two enigmatic strangers seems to offer a welcome distraction, but when an impromptu, seemingly innocent birthday party abruptly turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse, there are horrifying repercussions. By turns, cryptic thriller and macabre comedy. The Birthday Party was Harold Pinter’s first major work and is among the most unusual and absorbing of his plays.
With a line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a rhythm section and singers, the Nick Ross Orchestra faithfully recreate the Big Band sound of the 1940s. The much-loved show features hits from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Ted Heath, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Les Brown, Benny Goodman, Ray Noble, and Stan Kenton among others... And, of course, the repertoire would not be complete without reference to the songbooks of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
