The productions below are aimed at Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level, BTEC, National Certificate & Higher students studying for qualifications such as Dance and Physical Education, Drama & Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, and Acting & Theatre Performance. We offer discounted ticket prices to schools, often with a free teacher ticket for every 10 paid students, as well as access to company class and opportunities to meet the artists, workshops and educational resources. ZinMalta Dance Ensemble Wednesday 1 February, 7.30pm £10 school tickets – Main Space
Malta’s national contemporary dance company present a double bill of dance at Cast – the only Yorkshire date in the company’s first UK tour. HOME is a dance-theatre piece choreographed by ZfinMalta’s Artistic Director, Mavin Khoo. The dancers weave a cinematic narrative as the life story of a man unravels on stage, from birth through childhood, love, tragedy and ultimately death. Acclaimed Spanish choreographer Iván Pérez presents KICK THE BUCKET, a dance duet filled with extreme emotions. Stay after the show and meet the ZfinMalta in our free postshow Q&A. Rep based workshop based on double bill pieces, including short class, creative session for students to work on own material and a short showing. Length: two 3-hour sessions with a break in between. A gritty and explosive brand new triple bill from the allmale award winning, urban contemporary dance company. Featuring three new exhilarating commissions by worldclass choreographers, RUN explores the darker side of humanity, notions of fear and our responses to fear, through an explosion of movement, theatre and design with haunting, original music scores, it will be sure to leave you wanting more. Lo Giudice Dance - SAVAGES
Thursday 30 March, 7.45pm £9 concessions and schools – Second Space In a world where one mans blood is another mans elixir, Savages conjures a nameless beast lurking in the folklore and history of the North, channelling its wild romance and mystery into a work in which five dancers perform heart pounding choreography to the music of Norwegian Einar Selvik (History Channel's Vikings). Set within a world of projected film and animation, Out of This World combines Mark Murphy’s signature mix of ground breaking aerial choreography, original text and explosive special effects in a show that is both intense psychological thriller and heart-rending medical drama. The UK’s foremost narrative ballet company, Northern Ballet, present this heartbreaking story through dance for the very first time. Divided by a barbed wire fence, Bruno doesn’t understand anything about where Shmuel lives, or who he is. To him, he’s just a new friend – a boy wearing a pair of striped pyjamas. As this unlikely friendship blossoms against the backdrop of the unthinkable events of World War II, Bruno’s childlike curiosity leads this poignant story to a devastating conclusion.
Metta Theatre - Jungle Book Wednesday 12 – Saturday 15 July, 7pm Thursday matinee, 1.30pm, Saturday matinee 2.30pm £10 schools – Main Space This spectacular new production from award-winning Metta Theatre brings Kipling’s classic tale crashing into the 21st Century with breathtaking street dance and circus.
