May Member and Officer of the Month What was your favorite Key Club memory?
My favorite Key Club memory has to be the Winter Social. From the icebreakers to the food to the movie to the games, it was amazing! It was so much fun and I was able to bond with a lot of other people! What is your favorite aspect of Key Club?
Kristy Chen, Freshmen
My favorite aspect about Key Club has to be how friendly and kind everyone is! Right when you join Key Club, the officers are incredibly welcoming and you feel as if you've just joined another family.
What position do you hold right now? “I currently as Bulletin Editor for the 2016-2017 term!” What are some task or duties of your position? “I am in charge of all visual and article turns in to the Division, updating the newsletter and all social media and making sure information to spread to our members effectively.” What was your most memorable Key Club memory? “My most memorable Key Club memory was my first time being “fine free” at a Kiwanis meeting because it allowed me to

Spotlight on Service Marshall Spring Carnival 5/19/17 What motivates you to continue going out to service events?
“My favorite Key Club memory has to be the Winter Social. From the icebreakers to the food to the movie to the games, it was amazing! It was so much fun and I was able to bond with a lot of other peoWhat was your most memorable part?
“My most memorable part about the Marshall Spring Carnival event was how we struggled as a club to set up a single shade tent. “ -Jackie Wang, Member
What was your favorite part? “My favorite part of the carnival was seeing the energy of elementary school kids. Being in high school, everyone is dead in their eyes but when I was at the carnival, the kids were so happy. It was nostalgic.”
Describe what you guys did at the event. “When we first arrived, we helped set up a canopy tent. It took us quite a while to put it up and the event coordinator even laughed at us a bit. Around 4:30pm, we were assigned stations. There was face painting, raffles, and various musical instrument making booths: harmonicas, maracas, and tambourines. At 8, we helped take everything down and even enjoyed complementary pizza for the volunteers. “ -Ella Xu, Vice President 9
EliMiNaTe Week April 30th - May 6th, 2017
Written by: Phoebe Chiu -Vice President
Although it’s only been a few months since the start of the term, Castro Valley High School Kiwis hit the ground running by participating in EliMiNaTe Week during the month of May. To start off with, Castro Valley High School Key Clubbers had the pleasure of learning more about the EliMiNaTe Project through the Kahoot game presented at the meeting. 6. Anthony Alvarez Service Questions such as10“How much does it cost to save a mother Hours and a baby’s life from MNT?” and “What is MNT caused by?” taught members both the importance of what Kiwanis and Unicef are doing to relieve the effect of MNT and how we help support those affected. All Key Clubbers who participated enjoyed playing the game immensely, especially 17 Service Hours those who won and earned fun prizes like the CVHS Kiwi 18.5 Service Hours Stickers. 3. Kevin Wu

In addition to that, the newly elected officers for the 20172018 term decided to carry EliMiNaTe Jars to encourage members and people around the community to donate to Unicef to provide for more vaccines for MNT. Not only were we able to raise more than 200 dollars for the EliMiNaTe Project, we were able to educate people about what the importance of EliMiNaTe is. To heighten the spirit of EliMiNaTe Week, Vice Presidents, Ella and Phoebe, decided to create a campaign for pie-ing one another to encourage members to donate to EliMiNaTe. Whichever Vice President fundraised the most money in her respective jar would be pied by the highest donor of the jar. Ella raised a total of $60.87, while Phoebe raised $159.40 Although they had stated only one of them would be pied, both Ella and Phoebe decided to be pied in the end out of the spirit of EliMiNaTe Week. Members were thrilled as they saw Phoebe get pied by member, Audrey Fung, and even more so when Ella was pied by Amanda Wong. The Castro Valley Key Club Officer Board would like to thank all members who participated during EliMiNaTe Week whether that be through donating to the EliMiNaTe Project or learning more about it. We are proud what we have achieved during the month of May and are excited for the months to come. 11
