Greetings!
Hey Kiwis! Wow, just a few more days of school. These past few weeks have been a blur, all the way up to the last meeting of the year, and THE last meeting for the Class of 2016. Seniors, you’ve truly been such amazing role models for the rest of us during your high school career. Your dedication to this club after all these years is what inspired us to work so hard. You’ve left some pretty big shoes to fill, but we assure you Castro Valley Key Club is in good hands. Which reminds me… school’s almost over! Hang in there, guys! After you absolutely kill those finals, you’ll be just in time for summer. What will you all be doing over the next 2 and a half months? Whether it’s going on vacation, taking a few summer classes, SAT preparation, catching up on your favorite Netflix shows, or just sleeping all day (like me), I hope you will all have time to take out of your busy schedules for service! These next few weeks are going to go be quite busy, and we’d rather not wait 2 and a half months to see your wonderful faces again. That being said, I wish you all the best of luck this summer, and I hope for an even better year for the 2016-2017 term! “Be the reason someone smiles today,” -Anonymous
Yours in service,

RECAPS Marshall Spring Festival (5/13/16) Which part of the event stand out to you? “The part that stood out to me was the kids and how much fun they were having.” -Charlize Lim, Member
Pancake Fundraiser (5/14/16) Which of the 4 Core Values did you see most at this event? “Of the four core values, I felt that leadership stood out the most. Even though things were not going too well early on, the officers were able to maintain a general sense of calmness, execute a plan to bring in more customers, negotiate with the manager, and raise money for our charities.” -Thomas Wu, Member
Chili Cook-Off (5/14/16)
How would you summarize the event? “The Chili Cook Off Event was very fun although it was busy. This event gave me the opportunity to work with the members to make and sell food. Since this was a very limited event, it gave me the chance to bond with the members.” - Kevin Wu, Division 2 Member Recognition Chair

Eating for a Good Cause: Pancake Fundraiser 5/14/16
Everyone loves some yummy pancake and bacon to start off their day! Although some may love service even more! So Key Club combined those two favorite pastimes and introduced our very first, All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Fundraiser at the Hayward-Castro Valley Moose Lodge on May 14th! Coincidentally, this event was right after eliMiNaTe week, so what better way to celebrate the end of eliMiNaTe week then to have the proceeds go toward the eliMiNaTe project!
While some were preparing for the event, others started advertising outside on the streets! Members worked diligently throughout the event, and even got to have some pancakes at the end! Castro Valley donated $120 to eliMiNaTe all to YOUR SUPPORT!
The eliMiNaTe project focuses on the elimination of maternal neonatal tetanus. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) stands at the most common harmful consequences of unsanitary deliveries and umbilical cord care practices. When tetanus develops, mortality rates are extremely high, especially when appropriate medical care is not available. On the brighter side, MNT can be easily prevented by hygienic delivery and cord care practices, and/or by immunizing mothers with tetanus vaccine that is cheap and very efficacious. The eliMiNaTe project provides vaccines for $1.80 to mother and newborns to help third world countries lower their rates of MNT. By supporting Castro Valley at our Pancake Fundraiser, you are helping saving lives all around the world! Members had the amazing opportunity to bond with friends while consuming some yummy pancakes and bacon! Members arrived early in the morning in order to prepare the pancake batter, bacon, ham, and set up for the event! 9
Closing Note
Greetings, or should I say salutations? Wow! Time surely does fly by fast! We only have THREE more days of school left. You’re so close! You can do this finish the year off with your finals. I still remembered attending my very first DCM to Fall Rally to DCON and finally our very last meeting. To the Class of 2016, congratulations on graduating! I am incredibly honored to have meet so many amazing individuals in the Class of 2016, I will surely miss every single one of you. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. Please don’t forget to come back and visit your baby kiwis. The end of the school year does not mean Key Club also goes on summer break! As summer break begins approaching us, Key Club has several upcoming events! Join Castro Valley Key Club in our Annual End of the Year Social: Summer BQQ on the 21st in Lake Chabot, and June DCM on the 25th also in Lake Chabot! I mean summer does call for a little celebration, so why not celebrate with Key Club! As this school year comes to close, I want to thank every single one of you! Without your participation, effort, determination, and willingness Key Club would not exist! So give yourself a round of applause, you are all a superstar! I hope too see many familiar faces next year again. Keep providing service, and never let that passion boil down. Capturing one moment at a time, Anna Zheng CVHS Key Club Bulletin Editor 2016-2017 10
