Greetings! Salutations, Kiwis! I hope your studies are going well for you all, even if it may be College App season for some of you. I, along with the rest of the CV board, have the utmost faith in your ability, and know that you can overcome this stress. The first few months of a new school year can always be a little tough to adjust to, but in time, things will get easier. Take a breather! Go to a service event! We have a lot of those coming up, and you definitely don’t want to miss out. On a different note, thank you to everyone who attended Fall Rally North 2016! I am so proud of all of you for cheering your hearts out at the Rally Session, and I honestly couldn’t care less that we didn’t win the Spirit Stick. I hope you all had as amazing a time as I did, and I hope that this experience has inspired you to work harder along your Key Club journey. To all of you who could not attend: that’s okay! We still have more exciting events coming up, like District Convention! There are always plenty of opportunities for you to get more involved with Key Club “Sometimes the smallest things in life take up the most room in your heart,” Winnie the Pooh Yours in service, JP Aquino CVHS Key Club President 2016-2017 4

Member and Officer of the Month What was your favorite Key Club memory? "My favorite Key Club memory is during RTC. Group members came together to make our own cheers. It was fun and heartwarming when people from different divisions come together to shout the same cheers!” What is your favorite aspect of Key Club?

Sabrina Liu, Junior

"My favorite aspect of Key Club is

doing good with awesome and caring people who make me feel very welcome even when I haven’t been in Key Club a really long time”

What position do you hold right now? “I am the Fundraising Chair of Castro Valley Key Club”

What are some task or duties of your position? “I am responsible for keeping the club's cash flow positive by going out and contacting businesses around the Castro Valley area in search of potential fundraising events. These fundraising events serve for members and even the general public to enjoy while supporting Key Club's preferred charities. I also work closely with the Treasurer to understand how the club is performing financially”

What was your most memorable Key Club memory? “My most memorable Key Club memory is the Kiwanis Pasta Dinner event at the Kenneth C. Aitken Senior Center. This one event opened my eyes to Key Club's four core values very early - just weeks after I paid my first membership due and joined the club for the first time. The gratitude and warm smiles that I received while waitering the customers at the event is an image that I will forever reminisce in my mind and feeling that I will forever hold in my heart”

“This event, Salvation Army Candy Bagging, was different from other events because you were able to see the behind the scenes of Key Club and Kiwanis Club and you were able to bond with people of all ages who are dedicated to service” -Phoebe Chiu, Public Relations

“The Shed Painting Event truly showed Key Club’s core value of Inclusiveness. Everyone had the tasks of painting the shed and no one could really be left out since everyone had to work together for the event to be a success” -Kira Chen, Member

Slipping and Skating: InterKey Skating 10/14/16 Castro Valley Key Club and Interact came together once again to hold the annual InterKey Skating Event! Many members recalled this event from last year and began looking forward this event as the cold season approached us. Although the event started at 8PM, many members began showing up at 7PM, when the doors opened, to prepare for a long night of ice skating! Along side with a night of skating, members also had a chance to buy merchandise from both Key Club and Interact. Right as 8PM ticked onto the clock, attendees began to slide onto the ice. Although many struggled at the beginning, with many helping hands and professional skaters, Kiwis and Koi fish began skating effortlessly. Key Clubber Mikaela Klein, recalled the event as “a super fun event that makes me look forward to this event every year. I made many new laughs and memories during this event. Thank you to all the Kiwis and Koi fish that came out and supported this event. These fundraisers would not have been possible without the united efforts of, MEMBERS! Thank you all so much for hard works and efforts.

Closing Note

Happy almost Thanksgiving! As thanksgiving approaches quickly, don’t forget to give thanks and appreciation to those around you! I defiantly appreciate every single one of you guys. You have contributed to the club so much and helped made the club as successful as it is right now. First of all, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the members that attended Fall Rally North and cheered their hearts our! Although we may have not won, you tried your best and that is what counts. I would just like to acknowledge the entire club for attending all our past fundraiser because we have just reached our $1,500 goal to PTP! We have more service events coming up like the Light Parade, Kiwanis Pasta Dinner and much more that you can use to show your gratitude to the community! Make sure to attend our meetings to have first dibs on these events. Not only will you get some nice service hours out of it, you may unintentionally gain some new friends and memoires. I hope to see many new and old faces at future events and to gain many more friendships. Capturing one moment at a time, Anna Zheng CVHS Key Club Bulletin Editor 2016-2017 10
