■ Tai chi Tai Ji Quan was developed during 13th Century China by a Taoist monk, Chang San-Feng, as a powerful martial art. Those who practiced this art found not only their martial skills, but their overall health was improving. Tai Ji Quan can assist in regulating blood pressure, anxiety, depression, balance, circulation, stress, and self esteem. Photography ■ Photographic Philosophy Are you ready to move past the snapshot? Have you ever asked yourself, “So I have this camera, what do I do now?” Do you want to take one of those images that capture the essence of a subject? In this class we will explore how to photographically discover the extraordinary in the ordinary world. Learn how to convey what your subject wants to say through your photographic image. Students then create their own “fingerprint” projects based on guided instruction with something they’ve seen or experienced in the natural world. ■ Introduction to Acting (Ages 18+) This is a beginning class for adults wanting to learn more about the art of acting through the use of improvisation and monologues to explore and capture the believability of a character; the Who, Why and When. In an engaging and creative workshop atmosphere, the student will learn to think on their feet and react truthfully to a scene partner. These are basic concepts and skills needed by all actors. Children’s Classes Languages ■ American Sign Language (Session 1: Toddlers Session 2: Ages 11-16) ASL is a visual language commonly used by deaf individuals for communication. ASL has its own grammar, culture, history, and terminology. New parents often use sign language in the baby’s early stages of development to communicate with their children before verbal language starts. Star Wars Themed Classes

■ Advanced Art of Star Wars (Ages 6-10) This class is for those who love the Star Wars films and is based on the performance arts.

The focal point of this Advanced Art of Star Wars will be writing, designing the props and set, and filming a mini fan film. We will enjoy sith cider and jabba jiggle while creating our movie. ■ Playing in the Mud: Youth Pottery (Ages 7-12) This class is great for those kids who love to get dirty and have fun! A variety of types of pottery are explored in this class with an emphasis on hand-built ceramics. Join us in the adventure of using clay to create our own teacups and teapots, illustrating unique big/small drawings, and building beautiful miniature shadow boxes. ■ How Do Artists Get Ideas? (Ages 11-15) Artists get ideas from the world around them. In this workshop students will explore the ways in which artists gain inspiration from nature, still life drawing, comic books, literature, collaboration, and incorporating ideas from fine artists who have come before us. Workshops ■ Ceramic Hanging Totem Workshop Welcome spring by creating a Mother’s Day present for the garden. Students will explore personal iconography and the beauty of natural forms through hand building techniques to create one-of-a-kind clay forms, strung together to hang from a tree, trellis or rod. If you love to decorate your garden and make things yourself, you will love this class! Come dressed to get dirty! Tools are provided. Students will work with the three main fibers used in Japanese printmaking-Kozo, Gampi and Mitsumata. You will be amazed at how much paper can be made in a short time! The long fibers of these

This workshop is for introductory folders. □ Instructor Lane Allen □ $10 (WSS members $5) □ Sunday May 23 ► 2-3:30p ■ The Painterly Print: Digital Grounds for Fine Artists and Photographers Using our new digital grounds we can print images from our computer’s printer on any of a variety of surfaces: paint skins, gels, acetate, metallic papers, etc. These are wonderful techniques for mixed media artists, creating layers, or for limited edition multiples.

Printing on transparent surfaces is also terrific for artist cards and ornaments. Instructor provides supplies but please bring your own photocopied images. □ Instructor Sandra Bacon □ $70 □ Sat Jul 17 ► 12-5p ■ Acrylic as Encaustic and other Unusual Effects Encaustic Wax Effects with Acrylic “Beeswax without the Bees” Learn how to create several wax-like surfaces that are milky, translucent and rich with that buttery patina of wax. In this workshop we will explore layering in transferred images, collage and embedded images with gels and pours. Carving, scraping, and staining with layers will enrich your acrylic paintings and surfaces and these techniques can be combined to create dynamic depth to your work. All levels are welcome. Creative Ladies Night Out

■ Schedule a night with five or more of your girl friends for a Creative Ladies Night out.

We will make two small art projects while enjoying appetizers and refreshments. Project ideas: Handmade envelopes, postcard plaques, decoupage bottles, wired hanging bottles/ bud vases, photo frames, silverware charms, small accordion books or recycled wool flower pins. Projects to be determined at class registration. Refreshments include water and nonalcoholic beverages. Appetizers will be an assortment of chips, dips and sweets. □ Instructor Sharon P.
