CBN’S ORPHAN’S PROMISE

FROM PROTECTOR TO PROTECTED

Young Danny receives support and finds freedom in Jesus

The number of starving children in Costa Rica is staggering. CBN’s Orphan’s Promise knew something had to be done—so they began to support Hope Bunkers throughout Costa Rica in order to feed, educate, and provide stability for children like 10-year-old Danny. Danny has spent his entire life trying to support the drug-addicted adults in his family and protect his younger siblings from the environment they were born into. But Danny found a ray of hope the first time he walked into the Hope Bunker near his home in Guarari. There he received an education and nutritious food in a safe environment. Best of all, he’s learning about the Bible through Superbook, and he even accepted Jesus. Thanks to caring partners like you, Danny now has hope for a brighter future. SHINING A LIGHT IN THE DARKEST NIGHT CBN partners are bringing desperately needed aid to Ukraine

T

he devastating eruption of war in Ukraine quickly became the largest humanitarian crisis of this century. Heartbreaking images of women and children fleeing the fighting, while husbands and fathers stay behind to defend the nation, flooded the media—leaving a shocked world desperate to find ways to help. For 30 years, CBN partners have been sharing the love of God with the people of Ukraine with evangelistic outreaches and humanitarian aid. Now, in the midst of Ukraine’s despair, CBN’s ministry outreaches are uniquely positioned to shine the light of Christ in this war-torn nation, bringing aid to suffering people and hope in the darkness. While humanitarian aid was being rushed to Ukraine, George Thomas, Senior International Correspondent for CBN News, was reporting about the crisis, documenting the real toll of Russia’s military actions and the number of growing casualties. Operation Blessing in Ukraine

CBN’s Operation Blessing has teams on the border with Poland to give fleeing victims warmth, comfort, and vital supplies as refugees find themselves in a foreign land. Through the generous compassion of partners like you, the refugees received blankets, hot beverages, hygiene items, and more. Operation Blessing teams set up tents, organized packages, and distributed aid as the waves of women and children continued to flood in. Olena, a pregnant mother with three children, is one who made the harrowing journey to safety in Poland. Olena said she was horrified by the way the Russian military attacked civilian targets. “We could not sleep during nights,” she shared. The whole family was in a constant state of fear and turmoil. “It’s one thing to hear about this, another thing when you see it with your own eyes,” she said. Unable to endure the conditions, Olena and her children fled to Poland. Thanks to CBN partners, your love met them with open arms. They were so thankful for the warmth, food, refreshment, and encouragement. Nadiezhda is a young mother of two. She and her children also fled Ukraine. Her husband stayed behind to fight in the war, which left her alone with her little ones. They also received aid and assistance at the Polish border, thanks to you.

“Thank you for your help and your prayers,” said Nadiezhda. “Thank you for welcoming us. This is very precious and important at a time like this.”

Orphan’s Promise in Ukraine

With ministry centers throughout Ukraine, Orphan’s Promise has been providing a place of shelter as refugees move to safer areas. “It really is as though we were strategically placed for such a time as this,” said Terry Meeuwsen, founder of CBN’s Orphan’s Promise. Terry Meeuwsen founded Orphan’s Promise after adopting three children in Ukraine. She remembers how cold it gets there. “We slept in our coats and clothing with our socks on,” she recalled. “The Brusyliv center is one of the first strategic points after Kyiv where we can receive refugees that are fleeing the fighting,” explained Olga, an Orphan’s Promise relief worker. They provide essentials such as diapers and formula and make sure their needs are met before they continue their journey. They also share the Gospel and helped lead two women and one soldier to Christ—giving them a New Testament in addition to supplies.

CBN NEWS: HEALTHY LIVING

ACID REIN

More

How taking control of your acid levels can save your life

T

he words “uric acid” might not mean much to most of us, but according to Dr. David Perlmutter, knowing your uric acid level could save your life. In his book, Drop Acid: The Surprising New Science of Uric Acid—The Key to Losing Weight, Controlling Blood Sugar, and Achieving Extraordinary Health, Dr. Perlmutter explains that uric acid is the end-product of when our bodies break down fructose. “Now, that doesn’t mean we can’t have fruit,” he says. “Fruit is delivered in such a way … that it doesn’t really impact increasing our uric acid levels. But fructose … as it is added to so many of our foods these days … bombards our body and sends a signal … to make extra body fat.” Not only can it increase fat, but high uric acid levels have adverse health effects such as gout. And according to Dr. Perlmutter, it can also lead to “coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and … even Alzheimer’s.”

A high-fiber diet can help lower uric acid.

So what can you do to lower your uric acid levels? To start, it helps to know what your level is. A doctor or at-home monitor can tell you what it is. Once you know your level, you can start by implementing a high-fiber diet, intermittent fasting, and avoiding organ meats, such as liver and kidney. Supplements like quercetin and bioflavonoid can also help to lower uric acid. As always, please consult your doctor before making any changes to your diet.

CBN FILMS

Evidence supports historical events from the Bible

In more than 150 years of biblical archaeology, nothing has been discovered that disproves the Bible. In fact, archaeology proves that the Word of God is an accurate historical source. That’s the basis for the latest project from CBN Films—Written in Stone: Kings and Prophets—written, produced and directed by Erin Zimmerman. The film reveals artifacts supporting Old Testament truths, including ancient relics that echo the biblical accounts of King Hezekiah, Daniel and Jeremiah. During a 700 Club interview, Zimmerman explains the story behind King Hezekiah’s tunnel: “It says in the Bible, when Sennacherib, the Assyrian king, was coming upon him, he dug a tunnel and rerouted the water so it would stay in the city of Jerusalem.” This documentary takes you on a fascinating journey through that very tunnel, plus much more! YOUR QUESTIONS, HONEST ANSWERS WITH PAT ROBERTSON

Q

How does one go about forgiving themselves for past transgressions? I believe in my heart that God has forgiven me, but I just can’t stop thinking about it.

A

The Bible says in Hebrews 9:14 (nkjv), How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? God is not interested in us saying how bad we are. He knows we are all sinners, every one of us. But He is interested in our service. We need to read the Bible and read what it says about forgiveness. The Lord has forgiven you of your sins, so you have to forgive yourself. You’ve been cleansed from these dead works, so you can serve the Lord. He wants your service. He doesn’t want you to continually condemn yourself. Do what He wants, and what He wants is for you to serve—and you cannot serve if you’re constantly in self-condemnation. Watch The 700 Club for more questions and answers from Pat Robertson.

BE OF GOOD CHEER!

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.”

by Gordon Robertson President and CEO

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. These are the Apostle Paul’s stirring words in Philippians 4:13. What a tremendous declaration! Yet it becomes even more profound when we read the two verses just before it, where Paul explains: I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

terrorism, and various threats from around the world, let’s remember that we can indeed do all things through Jesus Christ, who strengthens us. We can have His grace when we are abounding and we have everything— and we can also have His grace when we are suffering, hungry, and in need. Jesus promises all His followers in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

The New Living Translation puts it this way: I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

In the middle of trouble, we can be of good cheer because Jesus overcame the world by His victory on the cross. And because He has given His power to us, we can indeed say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” God bless you!

And then comes that resounding statement of faith: For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Scripture is quoted from the NKJV except as noted.

In the middle of political turmoil, armed conflicts, a pandemic,
